[Q] My IncS completely disconnects, often! - HTC Incredible S

First of all, let me start of what I've tried doing, in order.
New SIM-card, factory reset, unlock + root, custom ICS (VirtousQuattro).
None of the above solved my problem, it still persists! The problem is, the phone disconnects completely from the network (no bars) and I can't manually search for a new provider due "active package transmission" or something like that, it stays disconnected for 1-3 minutes and then reconnects. It happens fairly often, like once for every 5 times I try using the phone. I haven't noticed the problem when being connected to a WiFi, so I'd assume the problem is related to an issue between the phone and the network.
Has anybody else had this problem? Any idea how to solve it?

Have you tried flashing a new Radio? I can't see how that would differ from flashing a custom ROM, but might be worth a shot?

I haven't tried that, I might in a couple of days if nobody has any other solution though.. I've had the problem for a couple of weeks so I'm kind of used to it!

So much for being "unlocked". Also, hey mate

Yes Naforcee, I have exactly the same problem. And it never happens while using wifi as you said.
It started immediately after I updated to Sense 3 / Android 2.3.5 from HTC.

What was the version of Android in your previous Rom? I had issues when I was on Froyo and went to Gingerbread without flashing a new radio.

I had 2.3.5 earlier, so that'd be GB. Same problems with ICS now though =/

Don't think it's a physical problem, I have perfect connection and it just dies out for about 2 min until it reconnects, and I can't search for network when it's down due to active packet transfer..

Could try a new SIM card. Might not fix it, but worth a shot - I've seen this posted as a fix for other people.
I used to have this problem on certain radios on the Desire Z, after flashing around a bunch of radios to try all of them. Stuck with one and it went away, so it was software for me.

Try flashing this radio http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1471861 using the ADB method. If that doesn't help I recommend doing a full wipe and reinstalling the ROM. There are a lot of different custom ROMs for IncS which can be found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136463
I personally like Niks ROM and Android Revolution HD.

Looks like rom installation issue.

My son's Inc-S having a similar problem to the OP, but more severe. A couple of weeks ago he entered airplane mode with all behaving normally, but since exiting airplane mode at the end of the flight he hasn't been able to register on the network (voice or data). We've tried:
fiddling with all the network settings
change sims (all sims work on my Inc2, none work on his IncS)
cleaning the antenna connections
reboot
factory reset
flashing new ROM (Android Revolution HD 2.3.0)
flashing new radio (3805.10.03.29_M)
So far, no satisfaction. We're still seeing no bars of reception (with an X) in the notification area, and don't have the option to manually or automatically register with any network operator (although several occasionally show up as options under "Search Networks"). We usually get the error message, "Unable to search for network while packet connection is active" when trying to select a network. Funny thing is, mobile network data has been shut off on his phone for the past month so the packet connection is definitely not active (wifi is on). Based on a network signal analyzer app, the phone is receiving the same mobile network signal as mine (-65 to -70 db) when they are side-by-side, so the problem does not appear to be in the antenna. The phone works just fine using wifi but is useless as a phone.
Any ideas about what to try next?

Probably a RIL-Radio communication issue. Recommended radio is the newer 3822.01.08.14_M radio, so maybe you should try that.

Help me with my g1

My g1 have big problem, it loss signal all day, most the time. I tried turn on air plane mode and turn off, or retart the phone, wipe, up another rom, up newest radio version, use 2g network only. But it doesn't work.
It loss signal random, i can't control or do something to have signal again. even i change many other sim cards. but i discover one thing: seem this problem related air plane mode. because in some rom version, i turned off air plane mode but it didnt, even i restart my phone it still on. i must take out the battery for long time and put it again.
Some time it have signal again but it only for short time.
How can i fix this problem, please help me.
please someone can help me. my phone isn't a phone anymore
hhmmm...Try to upgrade to the latest radio for g1. If that doesn't help, maybe your rom has messed up apn settings or the service in your area dropped.

I can add few things to this since I experience loss of signal multiple times every day:
I have 2 G1s. On both of them it happens:
1. Using different ROMS (CM, Super-D, OpenEclair)
2. Using different recoveries (RA 1.5.2 and 1.6.2)
3. At different times of the day
4. Using different radios (older radio and the newest one, sorry I can never remember the numbers)
5. Across different states ( I took one of them thru 5 different states and it kept loosing signal)
What happens is that I start a program that requires data (twidroid, FB, Gmail, Market) and I see my connection get stuck on the uplink, go away completely and restart the radio. Another way it will do it, is that it will stay on blank screen (or downloading screen) and there will be no uplink or downlink shown)
Tried: wiping, re-flashing radio, re-flashing rom, getting rid of few apps.
Anyone with any insight on this? I can get a log next time this happens if anyone wants to take a look.
Thank!
i tried many diferent rom, radio, and recorvery too. but it still doesn't work?
Now i discover that any connect in my g1 seem doesn't work. wifi can search but when i connected it can't open any page even google. gps can receavie signal, bluetooth can turn on but no one can see me or i can' connect to my headset bluetooth.
May i think it is mainboard's problem? i opened my g1 and see anten signal very perfect, don't have any space or something like that.

[Q] Wi-Fi To 3G

Hi,
Got a really annoying issue with my Nexus One that has been happening since the Froyo days, when I leave home to go to work I turn the Wi-Fi off on my phone to save battery. Sometimes I use the widget sometimes I go through the settings.
The problem is that the 3G doesn't alway's kick in, the only way for me to get 3G working is to turn my phone off and on which always works.
Any suggestions on why this is happening and how to resolve them?
I am running Stock Ginger Bread on my Nexus One on the the Vodafone network in the UK.
Try checking your signal strength: *#*#4636#*#*
You can try to enable 3G only and see if you can keep a signal.
My signal is sometimes intermittent due to topography. Stupid flat Ohio. Haha

Thanks, it won't be that though because once I turn the phone off then back on it's there. Also once I turn W-Fi off and 3G doesn't kick in, then it won't do untill I restart. Also another reason why I know this isn't the case is because even when I do this at work 3G doesn't kick in and there is a Vodafone 3G mast on the roof
never seen this problem before, but it sounds like something that might have to be fixed by doing a full wipe and reflashing your ROM. i know its drastic, so maybe do a nand backup first. then flash and see if the problem remains. if its still there, than just go right back to your backup and no harm and nothing lost. worth a shot.

I'm on a stock Nexus One unrooted so I shouldn't have to Root to fix an Android problem. Never Rooted before but considering it.
I got the exact same problem with Froyo and Gingerbread ROMs, can't remember if I had that issue with MIUI ROMs, but definitely with CyanogenMod ROMs.
Instead of rebooting the phone I suggest switching flight mode on/off it's faster than a full reboot
Haven't found any real solution yet and always thought I'm teh only one with that problem as I couldn't find any other person with that issue. Right now I'm testing different Radio/ROM combination and if that doesn't work I'll need to check if any app is causing the problem.
Any chance you are using Tasker?

Losing mobile signal frequently

I have an issue where I lose mobile signal every few minutes. If I use Llama and check the "recent" tab I can see Cell: -1:-1:-1 every 10 mins or so and if I'm using the phone the signal will go to nothing, then within a few seconds go back up. Has anybody else seen this issue? I've done a factory reset and it didn't help. I'm waiting to hear back from Sony support, but they're been pretty useless for me in the past.

I encountered the same problem on my xperia l.
You could try taking the battery out the phone when it is switched on "hard reset" ,then take out the sim card and reboot, then switch off, put sim card back in and reboot, it may take a couple of minutes, it's worked for some, Me included
Another thing You could try is putting Your phone into GSM mode from settings but this means You need to keep changing modes when data roaming

Whilst we appreciate the sentiment please take a look at the forum your posting your advice in. The Xperia Z1 does not have a removable battery and the term 'switched on ''hard reset'' ' makes no sense unless you mean using the red button in place of a battery pull.
Not trying to be rude but its frustrating when your device drops signal and the best advice you get is regarding completely different hardware.
To Chrisduffer: Have you rooted your device/unlocked the bootloader or flashed another ROM? If so perhaps consider an alternative Kernel or a software update via the flashtool if its still using the stock kernel?
same problem. No root / no flash. Stock 4.3. Same issue even before update to 4.3.
Any idea what to do? My signal drops down every day like 5-6 times for about 20-30 seconds with no reason. I'm also not able to connect to 3G (at least phone is not showing 3g sign next to the signal strenght).
Hmm...this is interesting because actually I saw this up and down on mine too but I was able to call and receive calls anyway...so I newer bother if is an issue or not...but I losing the internet connection frequently so what's wrong?
Instresting...mine too...stock 4.2.2 rooted, Lb....but when my signal totally drops I am able to call or text!

Sounds almost like the modem driver is crashing and then restarting. Factory default is what I would try first, unless this is happening in places where you have weak signal or are in an enviroment which would cause weak signal (inside, thick walls, metal, etc.).

Hypothetically.
Had a few issues myself with the same stuff. Try another radio via flash tool. Just deselect everything else and just flash baseband, no wipe. Be careful when flashing stuff.

Yes, alternative radio driver should help, if it's not HW issue.
I will try to give the phone on a warranty check ... hopefully they will be able to tell me what's wrong ..
if not, I'll go your way = flashing different ROM with different radio.

You think you have signal issues?
Almost forgot, I had a phone come in once and it had the same issue, ended up only recognising the sim card every now and again, you could try another sim, or even send it back for repair which is what happened with the phone that was brought to me.

[Q] Data connection

Hey there. I'm hoping that someone can help me out with this. A few days ago I updated to the latest rom from insertcoin. Since then I've had no data connection. Anything that requires Internet won't work. I've spent the day reflashing backups that I know are good but nothing worked. Tried different radios, checked apn settings and mobile data (which says I'm connected) without any success. In a moment of despair I reverted back to full stock hoping that it would solve the problem but again no joy.
At this stage I've run out of ideas which is why I've come grovelling to you guys. I couldn't find any solutions on Google, well nothing that helped. Everything looks like it's supposed to. Internet works over wifi but nothing works on mobile data. Any bright sparks out there with any suggestions ?

Thanks for the reply.I don't think it's the sim card cause I've tried it on another phone and it works fine.Hardware failure sounds more likely.I'm always careful when it comes to treating my phone. If I dropped it or something then I'd first think about a hardware problem, but nothing unusual has happened.Could flashing roms actually damage hardware ?

Ongoing 3G issues with Galaxy S3 mini

Hello guys,
For the past year or so I am having intermittent problems with my 3g connection. It just loses the connection with the mobile internet without any error messages and the only way to fix this is rebooting the phone. At first it happened every couple months but the intervals between connection losses seems to get shorter. The last few months it was every 10-14 days, now it's every 5 days. Since a reboot seems to fix this I don't think there is a physical defect on my 3g chip but the shortening intervals are somewhat worrying. I checked my APN settings multiple times and I've called my carrier's tech support several times but they too can't seem to find anything wrong with my APN settings. I'm currently using a custom ROM (OmniROM based on Android 4.4.4 with the Stagefright patch included) but this problem existed even in the original ROM so I doubt it's a kernel/driver issue. Is there anyone knowledgeable enough to pinpoint the problem or at least help me in the right direction because it's becoming a bit annoying and I dislike not being able to figure out WHY something happens. ^^"
The issue you have mentioned applied also to my phone, but it appeared for the first time after installing Omni from golden-guy. I haven't observed it on my stock rom. At the very beginning, I was able to mitigate the issue by turning airplane mode on and off. As you mentioned, the issue's frequency was increasing over time, leading to more than one signal lost per day. Airplane mode solution stopped working. I have also tried to kill (and got restarted) rild, as well as radiod - with no luck. Logs (I haven't checked kmesg) revealed nothing. I'm not sure the details of your issue, but I was loosing the whole GSM/WCDMA signal, not only the Internet access. Meanwhile, the system seemd to be looking for a network, draining my battery.
I still hope that the solution was to replace my SIM card with a new one from the operator. After that, about a month ago, the issue happened only once, and airplane mode on and off solved it. It's worth to notice, that turning airplane mode on took quite long time, about 30 seconds.
I'm having GT-I8190, Omni version 4.4.4-20151108, baseband I8190XXAMG (I'm not sure if it is distributed along with the rom, or maybe resides on different partition, and is not updated with the omni rom releases).

Did you check logcat? If you didn't then logcat might show what the problem is. And your problem sounds more severe than mine. I only lose 3g but I can still call and send text messages. A problem with the simcard might be possible but it could also be a physical problem with the simcard slot though I can't say why rebooting or turning airplane mode off and back on would fix that.

I just wanted to confirm that I have similllar issue with 3g data connection. S3 mini with I8190XXAMG4 baseband. Stock ROM used for last few years (without any significant issues with 3g data connections), upgraded to latest CM11 20151017 from maclaw/novafusion. I noticed that there are some glitches with 3g data connections. Sometimes I need to tap few times before connection finally is being established. Funny thing is that I have second s3 mini with the same CM11 20151017 and all is OK.
I tried a lot of another ROMs; fifferent version of CM11, OmniROM (4.4.4 and 5.1.1), CM12.1 - problem remains - issues with 3g data connection. Is there any solution to get rid of this 3g data issue?

Yes, logcat (main, radio, events) revealed nothing but just signal drop to 0%. At that time, I didn't know about kmsg and system logcat buffer, so I haven't checked them.

Just tried this, and it helped. Usually, when something is not working, people try to turn it off and on again.
I always had rare glitches with mobile data connectivity, and turning mobile data off and on again always solved the problem. I think our problems my be hardware related. I suppose my old SIM card could have buggy software, i.e. advertising to support some newer protocol, but actually didn't. After upgrading, the phone tried to use the new advertised protocol, and got confused, or made the SIM confused.
I also know about cases, when SIM card simply died without any reason.
I used Note 2 about two years, flashed different roms and never had troubles, but then my friend used it about 3 months on 5.0.2 custom and got troubles with gsm/wcdma. My next samsung phone become our beloved i8190. Flashed it from stock to 5.0.2 CM, than 5.1.1, after month got first Cellular bugs. Tried another LP and some KK roms, my troubles with baseband became more and more frequently every day, flashed different modems, changed much settings in system.. So I was desided that it's all HW problems, and hated Samsung for such failure. But one day just tried to install Project Noble, and all this troubles gone forever. So it's just drivers, which not optimised for new Android versions. 4.1.2 mixed with old TouchWiz after fresh and clean Lollypop feels horrible, but we can do nothing with it.

But if it's hardware related, wouldn't you think that rebooting our phone or turning airplane mode on and off wouldn't fix it? And did you see in the logcat log if something happened before the signal drop? Sometimes events prior to the signal drop can also tell something about the cause.

Hardware could also have its state, which may get corrupted and reset on reboot.
