I've been doing a little reading and it appears some people have problems flashing ICS roms to the i9000m.
Can I simply just flash the ICSSGS RC3.1 rom to my phone, or is there a bit more involved in getting this Galaxy S version on an ICS Rom.
Also would love to hear from people who have the Canadian i9000m and who have upgraded to ICS, and what their experiences have been like.
Thanks
Is your phone rooted, if not you'll need to start with that.

Hi,
I have a Bell I9000M, which is just the international version I9000 with an "M" slapped on to the end of the model name, so you're in the right forum
It's pretty simple to flash to ICS from 2.3.3. All you really need is CWM recovery installed. If you're coming from pure stock 2.3.3 for the I9000M, then here are the steps for flashing ICS:
1. Flash to any Gingerbread firmware that's compatible, I usually go for something like JVT 2.3.5 which can be found in the stock firmware collection thread, so in these steps I'll just assume you're going to use JVT.
2. Flash Chainfire's kernel (make sure you flash the right CF kernel version for your stock firmware) over the stock JVT. This will root and install CWM to your phone.
3. Reboot into CWM recovery using the three button combo (hold volume up, home, and power while starting the phone).
4. Flash onecosmic's ICS ROM or teamhacksung's ICS ROM (or whatever ICS ROM you want) through CWM recovery. Both of these ROMs listed can be found in the I9000 development section.
Thanks for the replies guys.
I've run into a bit of a problem. Odin will recognize my phone when it is on because I have usb debugging enabled, but it won't recognize it in download mode. I soft bricked it and was barely able to recover it with the one click unsoft brick app.
I've tried different ports and restarting my pc. I did come across a rooted kernel that would work with my phone, but I can't flash it because odin won't recognize the phone in download mode. So it seems like I'm a little stuck now. heimdall does detect the phone in download mode though.
any ideas
try to download the drivers to your computer and make sure that there is no Kies program activity running in the background in task manager, then after that try to go into download mode and plug your sgs back

I am almost in the same position. I have 2.3.3 all stock.
Firmware version - 2.3.3
Baseband version - I9000UGKG3
Kernel version - 2.6.35.7 I9000UGKG3
Buildnumber - gingerbread.GKG3
So i need to go to 2.3.5 using JVT.
do not forget to backup your rom and WIPE everything . (not wiping usually causes bootloops and it may even bug the phone so you cant go to recovery and you'll have to use odin again ) .
I tried ICSSGS RC4.2 and it kinda sux ,in my opinion use Dark Knight 3 and flash Dark Knight 4 to fix the bugs from both roms (read rom's topic) . Very stable and not that memory hungry

I was trying to root my SGS i9000 (UKG3, Bell Canada) and have (hopefully) soft bricked it. I am getting the phone!computer icon, but can enter download mode. Can't enter recovery mode. Kies doesn't recognize the phone but Odin does (Com lights up).
I want to get everything back to stock - does anyone know how to do that? Thanks,
S
Hi, you must use odin to reflash.
heres a link to ramads thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1226138
Just go to samfirmware.com and download latest version of android, that is jvr 2.3.4 and flash it using odin! Use odin 1.3 android + sl
Sent from my sgs
kernel: galaxian
Rom: jetpack
Success! Thank you very much, Robert!
You can download the stock ROM from www.samfirmware.com, My suggestion is to use custom ROM like Darky v10.2RE. The installation procedure you can see in my signature.
Hi guys,
i just got a Galaxy S (international, germany) and wanted to flash Clockwork Mod so i can flash a custom rom (miui). I got it with version 2.2 so i rooted it with z4root 1.3 and then tried RomManager to get CWM on it. But it did always reboot into Samsung stock recovery mode. So i tried this Odin3 1.7 and flashed a Kernel and got into a bootloop (First this one, then i used the one promoted in this video (YouTube Video, description XDA Thread with promoted Kernel. Phone now stuck at booting (isn`t even bootlooping, just stuck at the GALAXY S GT etc. logo. I still can reach the Download Mode.
Can anyone please help how to get at least the phone working again I`m really desperatly.
Greetings from Germany & Merry Christmas
Alch
Install a new Rom with odin will make your phone boot again.
2.2 is probably too old now.
Upgrade to Gingerbread Stock using Odin. Turn on Repartition and follow the instructions to flash.
Download a Custom Kernel for the Gingerbread firmware that you flashed. Every Kernel except the stock comes with CWM Recovery.
Copy the MIUI zip file to sdcard and flash it with recovery. It should boot right up.
If you are still having bootloops, try doing a factory reset and then boot MIUI.
Don't try things that you aren't experienced with.
Anyway, download odin 1.85, flash stock Froyo, launch Kies, update to official Gingerbread, launch Odin, flash Semaphore Kernel and GG.
Merry Christmas!
How can i flash Stock Froyo/Gingerbread trough Odin? Can`t find anything usefull @ google
btw i can reach Recovery Mode (CWM / Speedmonk something)
(Kinda experienced by flashing around with my N1 for around 2 years now, but never heard about this Odin Program)

I am not going to help you with this one. You need to get comfortable with the forum and its contents first. Read all the guides and stickies before proceeding with Firmware flashing. There are many different types of firmwares with Bootloaders which are often dangerous to flash and few without bootloaders. Hence, first go through the guides and go with the flashing only when you are confident that you are doing everything in right order.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1379853
Just do what dhiru1602 says. after you flashed it with the latest Gingerbread ,
flash the cf-root kernel with odin . than download the latest galaxian/semaphore kernel, copy it to your internal sd-card and flash it with the app SGS Kernel Flasher . you can find that app on the market. good luck mate !
Thanks guys, u really saved christmas for me Just booted up the latest Miui Rom!
Happy Holidays

Hi All,
My galaxy note is stuck on the Samsung logo and just hangs there.
some info on what I did.
My phone has been rooted (this has been done a while now still on stock rom)
I put phone back to factory settings (as wanted to start fresh) all was fine still rooted
I got a pop-up message about a update so I installed the update phone rebooted
Then I got another message about a update think it was kernel file update
phone rebooted
Then I got another message about android 4 so installed this phone rebooted and now it just hangs when it gets to the Samsung logo.
I can get into recovery mode.
Any ideas what I should do?
I have done lots of searches but did not want to make things worse (if possible)
Should I try and flash ICS using Odin3 v1.85?
Or should I just send phone back to Samsung?
Flash a stock Gingerbread Rom using PC Odin. Then,if you want you can update to official ICS without rooting or root GB and flash custom ROMS.
Dont wipe anything from the default kernel CWM, see if your storage can connect to PC, if yes then copy CF kernel 5.6 lq3 and Abyss kernel 4.2 and flash Abyss kernel first and go to advance reboot recovery, then do full wipe, then flash CF kernel 5.6 lq3
Hi Thanks for the replies
I checked and I can go into recovery and access the sd card
I could not find the kernels you mentioned do you have a link to them
also when I have flashed both kernels will I then have to flash a rom?
maybe the ginger bread one like NoRmAlY_CrAzY said
I found this one that am downloading
N7000XXKKA ------ 2.3.6 2011 November------- N7000CPWKK3 -----------United Kingdom (Carphone Warehouse)
Should I flash that?
-------
ok I flashed the ginger bread rom using rom Odin and its working i'll have to root again now i'll have to go read some threads about updating to ICS
Thanks Angie
First of all, HI guys and sorry for my irregular english.
I read since a long time XDA Forums to prepare me in flash and root methods for my galaxy note.
At now, i'm using this stock rom:
[ICS][4.0.3][Stock][OpenGermany]N7000XXLPY_N7000OXALPY_N7000XXLPT_HOME.tar.md5
+
CF-Root-SGN_XX_OXA_LPY-v5.6-CWM5.tar + SuperSU
but i came from a stock rom: N7000UBKK2 with default kernel KK1 from Samsung and Movistar. and i have only a nandroid backup of my default Samsung/Movistar rom.
I have another gingerbread samsung stock rom, for emergency cases:
N7000UBKK8_N7000WEKK1_N7000PETKK1_HOME.tar.md5
But my point is:
I wish test some roms, before to decide which one use in dual boot system:
- Stock 4.0.4 (LRG or you suggest me LRK or another more recent ?)
- AOKP
- Criskelo
- Chrack
- Paranoid
- Cyanogen 9
And i have ready to use: Odin 1.87, Odin Mobile, SuperSU (if is necesary), Abyss 4.2 (CW/Red) for recovery, Abyss 4.2 CW for odin and CF-Root for LRG (if is necesary i can find one for LRK or another recent)
But i'm confused about how exactly do that. Yes i know there are many... MANY topics about that but, I only need a bit of help guys to understand the exactly process and avoid EMMC BUG...
If i understant correctly, i must follow this method, please correct me if i'm grong:
01 - Check if i'm root and settings are in depuration + unkown sources
02 - Because i'm using an ICS Kernel i need first downgrade to Abyss for continue
03 - Reboot in Recovery and flash Abyss4.2 CW/Red, after "reboot recovery" and make wipes
Which one should i use for this CW or Red Version?
...
But after this i have problems, because i have ever red: before flash a custom rom you need a same base. Then ok i think for use for example CM9, or Paranoid, or Criskelo, I need a 4.0.4 rom then i have a:
[ICS][4.0.4][Stock][OpenGermany]N7000XXLRG_N7000DBTLRG_N7000XXLRB_HOME.tar.md5
Ready to flash but...
If a this moment following the previous steps, i'm in recovery of Abyss CW/Red:
Should i reboot using this Abyss kernel in download mode to flash a stock LRG ?
...
Or in another reality, is not needed flash Abyss to flash a stock rom using Odin ?
I wish first test the Stock 4.0.4 before any other custom to make a base point of comparison
...
And after, using 4.0.4 LRG + CF-Root, is safe use install from zip file in recovery to flash any other rom like CM9 for example ? or i need use abyss recovery (before flash it using CR-Root recovery) to flash any other rom (ICS) ?
Again i hope you can help me with these questions, and really sorry is the text is so long but i prefeer to know rightly how to procced before brick my phone, because i still waiting for a JIG (you know, for emergency...)
Tnks to all.
First of All You need to know that there is no need for the same base to flash the ROM.
Second thing You have to use Abyss Redpill 4.2 Original Logo Recovery(It uses GB Kernel) If you are not going to downgrade to GB and want to flash on top of your current ROM
Third Whenever you want to flash CM9/AOKP/AOSP first downgrade to GB(Pre rooted Rom) OR GB then Root it and then flash the rom by going it to CWM recovery.
Fourth thing is Never flash Abyss using PC Odin.
Proper Way to Flash CM9/AOSP/AOKP for a clean install (You will lose data)
Download a prerooted GB Rom from here ===> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
Reboot your phone is Download Mode. (Vol Down+Home+Power)
Open Pc Odin on your Pc/Laptop
Connect your phone to PC via USB Cable
A Small Box in Left Upper turns Yellow. It means your phone is recognized by Odin
Now Select GB File under PDA Tab (Do not change any settings)
Start Flash
YOU WILL HAVE A GB ROM ON YOUR PHONE WITH ROOT
Now Go to Recovery
Install Zip from SD Card
Flash Rom
Flash Gapps
Do All 3 Wipes (Cache/Dalvik/Data)
Reboot System.
you might wanna root first and backup efs before jumping to any rom that is different csc then you previous one.

Tnks to all, at now i'm testing some roms and kernels, looking for a "perfect" mate for my paranoid android (tableted rom), and in my tests i still looking for a decent kernel because (may this is my imagination but...) CF-Root LRG kernel in LRK Rom (Chrack's Rom) consume excessively batery but i will test in an ordinary day because may is not problem from rom, this should be a problem from kernel...
I read before: SpeedMod kernel was developed just for this situation: low batery comsumption + high perfomance...
Hey everyone, i currently own a rooted galaxy s i9000 that runs 3e recovery and a really buggy custom Israeli rom.
I would like to flash another rom but 3e needs rom verification or something like that so i can't really work through it.
I understand that i should use ODIN to flash CF-Root, but the rom has changed the build number somehow so i don't know which version to use.
Some info:
Android Number:2.3.3
Build NumberilotxRom JVH GINGERBREAD V1.1.2
If you could post a link to the right CF-Root and ODIN files i should use and some basic instructions i would be very grateful.
Thanks in advance, Daniel.
Download this "update.zip". Place it in your SD card. Power off and boot into recovery with the 3 button combination (press power, volume up and home button till you see the boot logo) and select "apply sdcard: update.zip". DO NOT DELETE THIS FROM SD. You should have CWM installed now. Let me know if you have any problem.

flash GingeBread 2.3.6(Maybe xxjvu or JW4) and flash cf-root.
you may follow this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2149455
to use custom rom GB 2.3.6 is a good start, if you want to flash cm10.1 i suggest after you flash CM7(GB) -> cm9 (ICS) ->CM10 (JB) to avoid lost imei.
