Tried rooting my old D1 with SuperOneClick and now I can't connect to any wifi networks. I can see them, just fine, but can't connect. I even "un-rooted" and "re-rooted" and still same problem. Restarted router; other computers can get on with no problem. Restarted phone. Nothing.
Because of this, I can't use RomManager to create a ClockworkMOD recovery before putting on CM7 or something.
My questions:
Can I just flash another ROM from the SD card?
If so, do I need to create a recovery first? I'm off contract and basically want to use it as a music player and time lapse camera. I don't think I'll ever need to "go back".
Super1Click took like a half an hour to root... is that normal?
D1 off contract. Stock ROM from Moto/Verizon.
A single bump.
Still having this problem. Been doing a lot of digging here and online and I'm finding some similar problems with solutions but nothing that's worked for me so far.
As Ned Flanders would say: Bump-a-rooney!
can you install openrecovery in you SD card to update other rom?
If you can't install another ROM have you tried going back to stock with rsdlite and flashing your stock sbf.

Flashing other ROMs works without WiFi - you just have to put the update.zip files on your SD card via USB or a card reader.
Have you tried removing the WiFi network settings and re-adding it?

hi guys,
i purchased an at&t captivate which has cognition rom on it. the seller took the sd card out, market is not installed etc. i tried flashing stock rogers rom, updated firmware but it reports sdcard busy when i boot in recovery mode.
thanks in advance.
This doesn't belong in Development.
As to the OP, does the phone turn on: ie can you get to the homescreen and such?
yeah the phone turns on. i can make calls, receive texts, surf over wifi etc.
gtalk cannot launch, cant connect to rogers 3g network..
i need to get a rom loaded on there. any rom, can i load cognition using adp?
do an odin 1click restore and see where that gets you if you can.

Ok.. First , It is an att phone so I am going to assume it has an att cog rom on it YES? Second .... There are Samsung calls the internal storage of the phone an sd card... there is also a spot for an external sd card. The Phone has the internal card or the phone wouldn't boot.
I am curious as to which you are having problems with.... the root or the flashing
You do have to be rooted to flash a rom unless youre using Odin
And Rom Manager makes Everthing Nice!!
Anyways the External (microsd) sd card is in /sd/sd
internal is just sd
You are wanting to use an Att phone on a different network so this Requires :
A: 1. Reflash Cog. 2.3b6 (which will include att bloatware plus "market.)
2. Use the tips and tricks to sideload apps in 2.2 .
3. Unlock the phone for use with Rogers Network.
B. 1. Reflash to att cog 2.3b6 and do the root , and the unlock
2.Flash your rogers rom. you should be set.
I am curious as to which you are having problems with.... the root or the flashing
hope to hear
bikerboy
working!
thanks for the reply guys.
i had trouble with flashing any new roms so used odin3 to go back to the stock at&t one.
rooted the phone, then installed recovery. created a backup of the stock rom with root and have flashed axura rc1.
back in business and testing roms!
Hi i'm new here, but not that new with Android.
I've been experimenting with my HTC Legend for months, till i hit a speed wall and decided to upgrade to the Captivate.
I'm not in the USA, I'm in Asia (Malaysia) to be more accurate.
I've been going through these forum pages, and i'm getting more confused by the moment.
Hope there will be some kind soul out here to help me with a few questions.
I used this method to root:
http://theunlockr.com/2010/08/02/how-to-root-the-samsung-vibrant-captivate/
After that, i installed ROM manager and flashed Axura.
I just have a few questions:
1) I can't seem to detect my phone when i plug it into the usb. I used to be able when i was on the AT&T rom (out of the box).
2) My OS can seems to detect the SD Card. It's accessible from Astro/file managers, but i can't seem to get it to detect media files on it. It also can't detect any zips that i want to flash over with ROM Manager.
3) i notice almost everyone recommends using Odin to flash JF6 and master clear. What is the advantage of this as supposed to directly wiping and then flashing with ROM manager?

1) Check under settings -> applications -> usb settings -> set it to mass storage.
2) Try putting in the zip files again in the internal sd card.
3) The reason many recommend ODIN is because that causes the least amount of problems. The problem with wiping with CWM only is that the lagfixes (either voodoo or ext4) can cause problems. It's better to be safe than sorry
Oh Thanks for the tips!
Sprint Hero
8gb new SD card
Was rooted to a cyanogen mod 6 (???)
The other day my sd card needed to be replaced. This card had my backup info on it, but became corrupted. I tried using various utilities in Win7 to try to fix the card, but had no success. Somewhere during the process of everything, I must have erased/corrupted the info on the phone itself, as it will no longer boot.It just freezes at the HTC screen.
I am trying to flash a new rom to the phone via the sd card using the hboot method. I have tried various roms, and had one actually start to install itself, but at the end it said the system info is older (not sure of the exact words) and would not proceed. So now I am stuck in what to do.
I want to get my phone working. I don't care if it is the basic stock OS, or something better at this point, as I can mod it once get it up and running. I am able to get to the clockword recovery prompts (if this helps any).
Any help in resolving my problem would be appreciated! Specific steps would even be better
I can't stand being without a phone... and this is driving me crazy!
U still have a recovery on ur phone?
Sent from my HTC Hero CDMA using XDA App
i have clockwork, if that is what you are referring to???
Run the RUU from bootloader and restore to factory. Re-root and you'll be good to go.
If you still have Clockwork recovery you can flash a new ROM from there and the problem should be fixed as well.
Is this a new ROM you are working on?
Thank you.. I think I have it working again.. I downloaded a rom from this link... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=581521 and it booted back up....
so, if I want to go to a different rom, say CM 7, or even a different one all together... I can do it from here using rom manager, right ??????? Thanks for your help!!!!!
Did you make sure you were fully charged. My phone sometimes refuses to get past the white HTC screen. If I make sure it's charged and sometimes I pull the battery and just let it sit. I always boots. It never did this on any rom previous to gingerbread. I would do this before spending an hour or two rru'ing or reflashing. My phone didn't seem to like the cwr 3.0.0.5 either, lots of booting issues. I had to downgrade back to 2.5.whatever. Looks like you got it fixed though.

Moved to Q&A...
hello all,
I have a SGS with freyo and android 2.2.1, this is the original, just bought it from T-Mobile in the netherlands
I try to root my mobile using 2 different system, but both gave me the same result
after rooting, and rebooting, the system does not find the sim card
it I unroot, the sim card is back
I followed some post but none arrive to conclusion
any idea someone ?

What kernels are you using to root? I'd flash gingerbread, then install galaxian kernel this should fix your problem

djice000,
I am rooting from win7 and trying to root the version 2.2.1 of Android, build number froyo.bojs5 (I suppose the last is the reference from Samsung)
I can do it also from VirtualBox on my linux box, but I read that it is not recommended. I did manage to root and unroot from linux, but will not do it again
I am not trying to install a new ROM, not immediately anyway, I am trying to root the phone. I need to keep it up and running as I am looking for work and it is my main mean of communication
reup
What systems are you trying? That might help us to suggest solutions.

I have now progress a bit, no idea how
I have installed a fresh win7 on another hard drive and boot in it, I have installed samsung kies to make sure I would have the proper drivers, then I try the SuperOneClik foun don this forum. I can root my phone now, and still get the sim recognize.....but I loose all network connections. WIFI still work, I can connect to internet using my local wireless router, but 3G is gone
I have reverted to unroot phone, and 3G is not back. so I need to check now why I lost 3G in the process
reup
I have been using 2 system to root the phone :
SuperOneClick (v1.7 and v1.9.5) from a native boot win7
GalaxyS_One_click_Root_All_Models from a native win7 and from inside a virtualbox
both software works in the root/unroot system
SuperOneClick v1.7 worked well and my phone could recognize the sim after root on my last try yesterday, but now I lost the 3G network, rooted or not
reup
For a 2.2.1-firmware I'd try to root using speedmod kernel.
Flash with odin (speedmod.tar as PDA, no repartition)
edit: froyo version of speedmod ofc http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822756
profalbert,
I am trying to root the phone without replacing the ROM. as I am fairly new to phones, even with more than 20years in IT, I rather not take more than one step at a time
already with the simple operation of rooting, I am failing, so changing the ROM will have to wait
anyway, if I understand well, before changing the ROM, it is very important to make a backup (nand backup) and this can be done only with ROOT available
it looks like a catch 22 situation in my case
I am heading for the provider shop and see if they can restore the 3G connection, I will pursue my investigation after that

Try the fugumof root method. You flash the root then reflash the stock kernel. Search for the thread. The tricky bit is re tar ing the zimage file without corruption.

I am just back from the provider shop, it seems that during the root process, the phone loose the apn info.
everything is back to normal now, so I will copy down the info then root the phone again and re-enter the info in the phone
I will post here my finding
thanks

Hello all,
sorry for the delay, I had to make usre the phone was functional for few days (looking for work)
so today, I have written down all the APN info from the phone, reboot on windows (I am a linux user) and rooted the phone.
this time all went well, the phone did not loose the SIM like the first few times, did not loose the APN info like last time.
I installed a app, root checker and all is ok. I had to reboot the phone in between, but I assume it is normal
so I am good, thanks again to you all

Hello, I have a Verizon sch-i800 that had a bad internal SD card. I followed the guide, removed it and I now have CWM on it. My external SD card is formatted and I can access it using the adb commands and CWM. I am needing to find out what Roms I can try on it.
I'm only able to search the web using my phone at the moment and would have to go to a hotspot with my laptop to download any Roms. I've only been able to download one so far with my phone because of signal drops.
After changing the updater.sh with the pacman 4.3.1 ROM I downloaded I found that it came with twerp and won't work as far as I know.
I can't find Terence's cm 11 build. Perhaps there are others?
Can you guys help me with finding a usable ROM?
Also, is this tab also known as p1000? Its written on cables in the tab.
