What is ACTA actually... just Google for it... or read bellow
ACTA - nothing more than LAW (or act) which when signed will limit right of free speech, it will affect your privacy, all of us reading this will be monitored 24/7. There will be no more torrents, no more uploads lyrics songs to Youtube, no more movies no more nothing.... it's the end of internet that we know.
Under ACTA at airports, borders etc... your iPods, iPads, MP3 players, cellphones, smartphones, notebooks, hard drives can BE searched without your permission to look for a file that has no confirmation that you bought it, that it is your property.
Global fascism slowly takes over. All this is being prepared for a couple of years, and I hope that all those who did not see the problem in Google, Facebook and similar services will see that the problem is them.
Many have said I do not care if someone is spying on me and I have nothing to hide, but it comes a time when we all dance how they tell us. Sit dog, sit.
WE NEED TO DO AT LEAST SOMETHING SO Re-Post this... or provide even more info..

Why make duplicate threads? I've just asked a mod to move the one in the S2 forum and now I see one in off-topic. Have you made any more of the same thing?
Edit: I just looked at your post history. There isn't a "rolleyes" emoticon big enough for how I feel right now. As I told the mods when I reported this, while I agree with your plight, I don't agree with your technique.

I'm glad at least one of the ten threads you created are in the right place...
ONE THREAD ONLY!!!
DO NOT SPAM EVERY FORUM WITH THE SAME THREAD!!!

jesus like I killed someone... .!.
oh, point was... more people will see...

If you want to spread the word then do it on lots of different sites, not many times on 1.

This site is the largest I know.. so xda is .. like 10 sites @ once...
Besides... I did that shared on facebook, youtube, and others forums too

Try tweeting @ relevant people that have lots of followers. If they retweet it you could get it viral. Unlikely, but worth a shot.

so, we're basically screwed =D

Told you it would be back and signed by executive order. What better time than Superbowl weekend? Ill take my mini SD card and swallow it before they raid my personal data.
Ill have to learn to ween myself off of the internet. Take up fishing, camping and maybe get back into producing/composing music. It might be a good thing for me.

Looking for Editors.. Paid Job

Hi,
I am Wen. Alot of you know me for either working on XDA's front page or WMPoweruser.
Well I am looking for someone that would be willing to work for one of my sites.
The site is new, and I just made it last night after being bored.
The site is a general phone site, so can talk about any phone news, which means your job is really easy.
All you do is:
Find 10 interesting news anywhere in the web about phones( I like smartphones more than dumb phones, but either works)
Write about it.. with good English and grammar.
Post it or schedule it to post the next day 1 hour apart.
This job isn't hard, and you will get paid for it. And if your good enough, you will either get a raise or I will find a bigger higher paying site for you, but only if you work hard.
What are the benefits of being an editor. Well you get to review phones(right now, I have the Palm Pre, Pixi, Motorola Droid, Devour and more. all to review). you get free things(right now I have the Jabra Stone, and Jabra Halo).
You can have all that if you work hard enough, and this job doesnt require much.
My pay can be discussed if you PM me.
BTW you might want to know that site you will write for:
MobileBlab
Its only 24 Hours old
A couple qualifying questions...is this US-based equipment? How do you anticipate to have the editor experience the technology first hand so they can write about it. I'm sure that you don't want someone to write about things second-hand. I mention this because you cannot steal photos and stories from others without subscribing to their site or network.
you read sites and write news... i dont need a reviewer just yet. and yes usa
Which is the same thing, you should not be stealing stories from other sites or write about news second hand. You've got to be able to put up stories that don't exist elsewhere, especially in the digital world today. What you need is underground sources that can feed information to your "editors" to put out stories. The only way to take second-hand information, from stories that already exist on the web, and use them to your advantage is to aim your site at a specific section of the market. Even then, you need permission to run the story and pictures.
A perfect example is Tmonews.com. They take stories and just publish the ones that are relevant to T-Mobile users. A generic phone site won't catch on.
I DO, however, have an idea that will catch on because I'm not seeing it elsewhere right now and it would be the perfect time to market the site. PM me if what I say makes sense and you're interested.
I am not quite sure what your saying because all the sites do that.. its not called stealing unless you dont link back to them.... Engadget is the biggest example alot of their news are from other sites.. so they just link to them and use the news.
So... ya.
But I will PM you to see what you have to say

I'm not a news follower but rather a tweaker/tester kind of guy. I share my discoveries with the rest of the world with nice tutorials.
If you need someone to write easy-to-follow guides or to review phones (I tried every platform but WebOS and Nokia's), then I'm your man. You can see samples of what I write on my blog (blog.nicolasbouliane.com).
UPDATE: By the way, you won't get many visitors with copypasta since most people refer to a single site for these news (generally Gizmodo) and won't like reading the same stuff a day later on another blog. A simple description with a referal (à-la Lifehacker) will do the job for anything that's not original content. You should instead try getting visits from Googlers looking for a specific topic.
I would be very interested in this type of position. Where would I need to submit a sample of my work? FYI, hiring a woman with tech knowledge is very chic these days
So you girls really do exist!
Really, a female.. great ill PM you... now I need One more.. and If I get more than 1, I have more than 1 sites... I have http://theandroidfeed.com and http://mobileosnews.com
count me in I'm pretty there when it comes to phone news
what do I have to do generally
I still think you should be more specific in your market.
Answer this question: Why should I go to mobileblab over engadget, mobilecrunch, techcrunch, cnet, wmexperts, or coolsmartphone?

well engadget, cnet, == iphone bias and I know when I read a phone review site I get tired of those biases personally

Very true, but that was the same question that was answered when Engadget and Mobilecrunch linked stories to my other site....
Engadget doesnt post as much news as my other site does.. and ya, thats why I have a regular reader base, because the readers know this.

Cnet, just watch their comperison videos.. Iphone never losses.. but not much Engadget.. but Gizmodo does.

Social Networks trying to take over the world?

Have you all noticed that Facebook, twitter, and other networks try to take over the world? Facebook in skyfire now, facebook is everywhere with "like" buttons, Social Networks are forced by freaking Motoblur, people reporting each their step: "I just ate Icecream!" "I just saw some weird dude." "People what to do? I got a ticket!"
Get your butt out of the computer/cellphone and go to the beach watch a sunset! Let your brain free for at least a moment!
While checking email in the morning, I see hundreds of posts from people about what they did on a hourly basis.
So pathetic. After all this I really want to delete facebook and add it to all possible filters.
What is your opinion of such invasion and zombification?
I say xda is better than facebook...
You can meet intellecual minds here
I agree, but they are not taking over the world, they are taking over people who are stupid enough to think that facebook is their life.

Its strange how people used to share things such as photos, and sentimental things in real life. And now people cant wait to upload to facebook.
I must confess i'm a twitter addict though (hopefully not in the: "i'm eating a sandwich kinda way")
It's only a fad. I remember the days when Friendster was cool and everyone was on it. Then came MySpace, and in that got canned with Facebook. Once FB floats, investors are gonna put a lot of pressure on the management to monetize their assets (users) and this is gonna push the engineers to their peak frustration. They'll start using codes that users hate, and sooner or later a new social network will start, and the cycle begins anew.

Im just getting really annoyed by facebook, twitter, and myspace stuff forced upon me. I install something, there yahoo toolbar forced, or facebook link.
I keep facebook just as an easy connection to friends, but not as my way of life. I go to facebook anytime and i see at least 10 of my friends sitting out there, where 9 out of these 10 post all what they did.
I also loved skyfire, but now its impossible to use it on my Magic at all. Instead of making that, they could have fixed video errors, that happen in 2 out of 3 videos. Plus there were no single movie that I could finish without an error.
Off topic: You guys should have seen the computer at my temporary workplace. It had 150 toolbars installed on IE, Starting from yahoo toolbar and ending with facebook toolbar. All kinds of notifiers and BS, forced on the noobs. Took me 2 hours to clean everything from it, including hundreds of viruses and bs.
It is clearly obvious that the goal of each social network is to capture people as many as possible. Alone I do not blame them. For the most part it is people's fault.
I was growing up in Ukraine, and a computer was something that we did once a month (if lucky enough). We did anything possible, from fishing to exploring... Were out from sunrise till sundown.
Even shared photos and proposed to girls in PERSON. Now people breaking up on freaking facebook, and seek a remedy for their problems...

next step will be lowered monthly bill for web2.0 and raised monthly bill for old web ... naturally most folks will flock to the cheaper web2.0 "becuz thats what they use anyway" and by this happening , slowly will form a whitelist of "big sites" where users have a net id to sign in and u can be moderated , banned and sanctionated . the isp's will be free to push select sites(read :who they get the best offers from) at the users while the truly free internet , where anyone can make their own , and speak out , shall slowly fade away

Actually, it's turning the other way around. The big players were bouncing around the idea of charging users more if they go to popular sites like FB and Google.
IDK why is the Op so facebook/social networks hater,
i dont have any toolbar nor viruses, eventhough i dont use an antivrus software or anything.
i have a fb account and i use it only for people i know... no need for strangers, they are always rejected...

My honest opinion on MegaUpload being taken down

MHO the whole SOPA thing and americans' crackdown on piracy aint gonna stop it. Its up to the people themselves to decide whether they pirate or support. No matter how much effort or money the US or other governments waste on trying to stop piracy, its not going to stop. The online community has unlimited possibilites and there's always gonna be somebody that's gonna make a workaround, if you understand what i mean. All SOPA's gonna do is cause unnecessary inconvenience in the online world.
MegaUpload... hmm... i thought at first that it was a stupid move, I mean, there are loads of different file-hosting sites out there, why only take down MegaUpload? I mean sites like FileSonic and others that pay uploaders money for downloads are way more prone to illegitimate uses.
Alright so I read MegaUpload CEO's Kim Dotcom's bio, he does have quite an interesting history... A dual German and Finland citizen, holds permanent residency in both New Zealand and Hong Kong. He has multiple criminal records and has been charged more than twice or so for criminal offenses such as selling hacked telephone cards, credit card fraud, insider trading and embezzlement... in general, being a total smart arse:
WIKIPEDIA: In 2001, Schmitz (Kim) purchased $375,000 worth of shares of the nearly bankrupt company LetsBuyIt.com and subsequently announced his intention to invest EUR 50 million in the company. Unknown to others, Schmitz did not have the funds available to invest, although the announcement caused the share value of LetsBuyIt.com to jump by nearly 300%.Schmitz quickly sold the shares and profited $1.5 million as a result.
Click to collapse
In other words, he was a dirty business man with a bad reputation. I guess his criminal records would be the main reason why he was taken down first. I'm quite confident there are more coming.
As to how it affects me, it does a lot. I have quite a few files I need on MU... I don't have a premium account and would never buy one off them or anyone else, because I don't need it. I sure feel sorry for those who have a prem though...
^^ Again, this is my honest opinion.

Yeah, it really sucks. Let's hope other file sharing sites don't get the same fate. Rapidshare etc. Not as good as Mega though... Here's my latest post on facebook lol
"Megaupload taken down by the Federal Government. ****ing ridiculous. The company was not EVEN BASED in the US. Is the US government now policing the rest of the world. They got the New Zealand police to arrest the founders, and the company base is in Hong Kong. How can they bring people from another part of the world, not even US citizens, and have them arrested... just adds to the bull**** with SOPA and PIPA. We are going to have a censored internet just like North Korea. **** THE US GOVERNMENT. DAMN. They need to get their priorities straight. Giving people years of jailtime for downloading music or small crimes, yet when someone murders someone you might get a year or two if your lucky. Something I saw someone post, download a Michael Jackson song and get 5 years prison, be the Dr. killing him and you get 1-2. smh.."
The megaupload. Being taken down doesnt surprise me personally. Its like limewire, it was a really blatant piracy hub. There was legitimate business on the site but it was mostly a hotbed for stolen data.
There are plenty of other oprions. Rapidshare, filehippo, dropbox

Please stop posting that IP around. It's not real. The owners of the real MegaUpload have nothing to do with these "New MegaUpload" sites. Now for being stupid I hope you get a virus and have your bank account zeroed.
But seriously, do you really think they would put it back up right after it was closed? Someone just took a cached version to have the layout, put the text in there, and now they are thinking how to infect your computer and steal your money.
(yes, I am copy and pasting that whenever I see those numbers)

For starters people under the age of 13 shouldn't be on Facebook to begin with, it is against the Terms of Service for that site.
Secondly, any children who are on Facebook should be supervised by their parents. That is part of the responsibility of being a parent.
Third, if the page offends you then simply block it from showing up on your news feed and suggest that others do the same.
Fourth, I looked at that page and there are only 1 maybe 2 images that are actually disturbing due to the fact that they are actual people. The rest are just cartoons, a good number of which are from Cyanide and Happiness a site that always pushes the line of what is "appropriate".
Frankly I can't stand people who always want something banned or taken down just because you don't like it. Here's a thought if you don't like it, don't look at it. It honestly is that simple. It's not like this page just magically shows up places, I didn't know it existed until you pointed it out. If they find that type of humor funny fine let them have their page. It's called freedom of speech.
echaynes please don't make personal attacks on here. If you disagree with what he has posted please respond in a slightly more objective manner.

This is obviously the most important issue facing our nation today. I for one will not sleep until facebook makes galaxys2Tav into the morality czar of not just facebook but the entire world wide web. There is obviously nobody more qualified to make these important moral decisions for us. Who else will think of the children?
If we don't wipe out every single trace of anything we disagree with who will keep the children from turning into people who disagree with us? How will they grow up to be just as ignorant as we are?

Like I said before it was a question to what can be done about it. I don't see why people on xda have to be so lippy about it and make sarcastic remarks. Sorry I don't agree with it but to me its seems like I'm getting called for been a "troll" and and idiot because the fact is its on a social network. If it was on xda do u not think a mod would close it as it goes beyond peoples "humor".

Not everyone said stuff like that. Personally I attempted to make logical arguments about why I would not assist you in the closing of that Facebook page.
Furthermore the Terms of Service for XDA and the Terms of Service for Facebook are both different. So no I would not expect that Facebook page to be treated the same as it would on here.

Really surprised about the animosity and judgments I'm hearing about this, not necessarily you but also on another thread. Not wanting to see more videos is one thing but assuming someone doesn't understand the purpose or are just pretending to care.... Eh don't feel like ranting...

It's not so much an assumption as actual experience. The mother of one of my classmates had ALS. (she passed away a few yars ago) I know what ALS is in both the personal and medical sense.
As such, it is utterly distasteful how people are using this as an excuse to put videos of themselves on the internet in a vain attempt to gather attention.
The idea of the campaign is to raise awareness. I guarantee you 90% has not even bothered to Google what ALS really is.
At least the famous lot actually donates. The superficial idiots on Facebook don't even bother to do that. This is merely another 'look at me!' hype. Nothing more, regardless of the wonderful intentions of the few who do actually know and care.
I have seen some brilliant ones from people who do know what ALS is. Sadly, the majority is using a good cause to gather attention to themselves, and that is insulting.

Look if your trying to say we don't Google stuff before we're dumping ice cold water then your damn wrong. In case you don't notice it many people do donate and throw ice cold water at themselves. Maybe some people can't afford to donate but atleast they can spread awareness by posting these videos. I bet nobody knew what ALS was until this trend came along and everybody searched what ALS is.

She wasn't saying "nobody Googled it and therefore everyone is doing it for attention". She's saying that there's a hell of a lot of people out there who have done just that. I completely agree.
Out of everyone who I personally know, I'd say that around 90% have done the ice bucket challenge. Out of that 90%, there's around 20% (not exact but an educated guess) who have no idea what this challenge is even for. I know that because they've clearly said, either in the video or in comments after making the video, that they don't know why everyone is suddenly doing this but it seems like fun so they'll join in.
While that could be a sign that a lot of the people who I know clearly have no idea about such things and that everyone else knows the reasons behind this challenge, I've seen a lot of people across the internet stating the exact same that I am now. That shows that there's way too many people who are simply doing this challenge purely for attention as they have no idea that this is for ALS or even what ALS is.
Even though I initially didn't know what ALS was, I did know what MND was. After researching the reason behind this challenge, I then noticed that these are just different names for the same disease and therefore actually knew how serious ALS/MND can be.
A few people on Facebook have nominated me to do it and, while it may seem harsh, I've declined because of the fact that everyone I know has either done this challenge or at least knows about it. Therefore, me doing it and sharing it with those who I know will not raise awareness.
Even though I'm not currently in a position to donate to ALS/MND, I likely would if I was able to.
My apologies if this came across as confrontational as that wasn't my aim - I just wanted to get my point across
Again, not trying to single anyone out but showing disdain for everyone doing this challenge is a bit absurd. I only heard about it a few weeks back and being I don't use Facebook I wasn't nominated until I posted this video where I had found out how big it has really gotten.
I usually don't partake in internet fads for many reasons no matter the cause, but I saw how well this was working, they raised something like two million last year without the ice water stunt and this year its over $50 million. Also knowing someone personally myself I figured I would continue the love
Yes I only donated 10$ and I would have liked to think I would have given a bigger donation but the wife and I had our first child 2 weeks ago and we are now on a budget.
So being this stunt is working and even if the majority don't donate or post videos for the wrong reasons it still spreads the word which to me is better than nothing at all
Again my complaint isn't that someone doesn't partake or doesn't donate, its when I see broad conclusions made about those doing this and then openly mocking them or judging them to be superficial assholes, although some certainly are after watching a few videos posted.
But in the end it was my mistake to use XDA as a social media outlet for non development related anything as what I have seen this won't continue as I thought it might. I guess I'll have to dust off the old MySpace account or whatever people use nowadays (anyone remember friendster?)

You've misread our posts. We're not showing disdain for nor mocking everyone.
Only the majority that are using thia as just another harlem-shake-planking-hype.

Fair enough, my finger isn't close to the pulse of social media campaigns so I wasn't aware how much this sort of thing was disliked
If all this thread turns out to be is complaints about Facebook or whatever I guess I'll just close it as I obviously didn't understand what people thought about this sort of thing.
No hard feelings

There's always two sides to these things, the people who think it's great, and the people who hate social media hypes for their shallowness. Oh, and everyone else, who get tired of seeing the same thing every day for weeks.
No hard feelings

None given, none taken
Luckily, at least today my Facebook will be so overflooded with news about the Emmy awards that these videos don't stand a chance.
Thread Cleaned and back to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge....Thanks.
