Tayutama's JPM Froyo w/Xcaliburinhand's Re-oriented Kernel - 11/04/2010 -- possible security concern
Installed the above ROM.
ROM Post link:
Code:

Working good on my Captivate.
One concern: How do I take off the "minus" marks on the app icons that lets us delete apps right from the home screen (the screen we get when we click on the home button).
I see this as a security risk. I have app protector pro. But then, we can just delete the app protector pro in this mode without even asking for any password or anything, and all my apps are open for everyone to use.
Could anyone please help me take off this option to quick uninstall apps from home screen.
This thread is a joke, right?

Nope. I am serious. So far I realized that unless a person knew how to mod a Captivate, he didn't know how to access protected apps. But now, even a layman can just delete the 'app protector pro' and access all the apps that are supposed to locked by it.

You do know that once you rooted your phone, anyone with a little knowledge can do much more than simply delete apps... just don't lose your phone or give it to an iphone buddy who might wonder what the neat little thingys on your screen do
Bye. What launched are you using that you see this in.... and deleting an icon from your home screen does not uninstall it on any that I have used

Not the icon. Like when u press the home icon, u can see all the apps present on ur device. For user installed apps, u can see a small "minus" in a circle on the right top of app icon, just like in iphone when u go to edit mode. click on that, and it will uninstall the app.

I use Application Protection from the market. Upon uninstalling any app it always asks for the pin. There is no removing the program without it.

Another possible solution is to install another launcher that dosen't have uninstall in the application tray or doesn't work at this time (my LG Optimus below) and use root explorer to remove the two launcher and reboot.

Others have already pointed this out, but what you need to do is dl and install a different launcher from Market and then uninstall the TWLauncher. Problem solved.
Just because TWLauncher is the default in Cog 2.4.1 doesn't mean that you have to use it. Get another launcher. Or you could try never letting your phone out of your sight...

why the hell would he do that? factory reset would be an absolute last resort.... and i have no idea why the hell you think installing apex would help him?
OP do you have google now enabled?
first thing i would do is disable data and disconnect wifi - make sure it is an app trying to fetch data that is causing the problem, if that turns out to be the case then simply stop all apps from syncing automatically and reenable a few at a time until you capture the problem one.
check out whether your GPS is being used too - google now would use your location and fetch data a lot, my money is on it.

I've tried everything I can, from removing accounts to clearing cache and data. I've removed the account and re added.
I bought dogcatcher with account 1.
If I remove account 1 and add account 2, it still thinks I've purchased it. I've removed both and added number 2 back. Same issue and so far only with this app.

Did I got it right? Purchased an app with Acc 1, get an error when trying to update it with acc 2? Or is it just showing as "purchased" with Acc 2?
Showing as purchased which is odd. I don't mind buying again. It just won't let me.

After much investigation, it turns out it was my network, three.
However, the problem with 403 is still present. It's got so bad, I've had to buy another podcast app to tide me over. Looks like Doggcatcher is off the menu. Shame, but I'm tired of pissing about with this.
I surrender. Voice recorder pro is doing it now. Any ideas?

Same. Even after wiping and only adding one account, it still does it with the same apps. There must be a more serious issue. I can't use apps I've paid for and have to buy alternatives.

I thought I would try again today, still the same thing. I've had to BUY 3 alternative apps because the ones I bought will no longer download. Sick of it.
If any of you guys are still there, I made this thread with a solution to help solve this error. http://androidforums.com/internatio...ror-24-insufficient-storage-space-solved.html
It turns out that there is some residue data from installing the app before which leads the app to not install. It's tested and worked for me. Please gimme a thanks if it worked.

Thanks man, but didn't work for me.
I did a search for anything doggcatcher related on my phone, not a single file.
The only option I can fathom is to find an apk of it. I've paid for it, I can't use it unless I pirate it. Makes sense.
We've all had issues with the play store over the years, but this one has me stumped.
Rooted phone, but that's all
everything was fine for almost a month, but a few days ago, i noticed I was no longer able to connect to the play store.
I did all the "normal" things, cleared caches/data from play store, google framework, uninstalled my gmail account and re-installed it, downgraded play store, upgraded play store, tried the hosts file trick, even did a factory reset, and still no play store connection.
Even called Tmobile tech support, and got to the tier 2 folks, and they couldn't get it to work either, so they are sending a new phone tuesday.
Until then, I want to keep on trying to get this to work; I haven't unrooted with Supersu yet, figuring that rooting had nothing to do with this, since it worked fine for a month, rooted, but does anyone else have any suggestions?
Its weird; when I open the play store app, and type something into the search box, it will actually take me to the page where that app is, but when I try to download/install it, I get the dreaded error 927; when I back out, and just try to open the play store app, It doesnt connect at all.
When I try to send files to my phone from my computer, it shows "my apps", but when I try to send them to my phone, I get an error on my phone saying "failed to install" app..
Any thing else I might have not tried with this?
Thanks!
You dont have any battery saver apps going do you...because sometimes they can mess with network settings. Also that error 927 is a network error so you may want to start sniffing around your network settings. I have the tmobile flex so let me know if you need any settings.
Sent from my LG-D959 using Tapatalk
no, no battery saver apps running, and I went through a couple of complete factory resets on my own, and with tier 2 from TMobile, plus they re-provisioned my phone, and even that didn't help.
Whats so weird is that when I type an app name in the search bar in the play store app, it takes me to the page where that app, and others like it get listed.
If I click on one of the app, it takes me to the download page of that app, and once I click on "Install", the progress bar starts, and it looks like its going to download/install, but then it throws the dreaded error 927 flag.
Trust me, I've been modding phones for many many years, and this play store stuff has happened to me before, but never this stubborn as to make me have to replace the phone.
Yeah that is weird. Well if you do figure it out post the solution. I would love to put the solution in the memory bank just in case.

your idea of creating a new gmail account works!
Only problem of course is all the things I have purchased originally through the play store wont be accessible to me under a different identity..
Can you "combine" identities on the play store, or add others to your account so you can share stuff?
Thanks for the suggestion about creating a new identity! :good:
I'm still gonna try the replacement phone that t-mobile is sending, to see if that one works normally..

You can share apps in the sense that when you open up the playstore you can choose which account to use in settings and then download all your apps. I do that for all my daughters androids. Log
both in turn everything off from my Gmail account so that she doesn't get my email etcetera, and then log into the playstore using my Gmail when she needs paid apps and so on.
EDIT: Right after I posted this I rethought the idea and realized that may not work for you because your whole problem is that YOUR Gmail acct is the one acting up throwing the 927 error

yep, I think I did the same thing in my Samsung Days..was so easy to wipe and restore...seems like a long time ago...
Fortunately, T-Mobile is sending a replacement phone today, so I dont have to deal with that..
If we had a custom recovery, it would be a non issue.....soon, hopefully!
just an FYI...
A new phone did NOT fix this; the only thing that works, is setting up a new gmail account, and using that to get apps in the play store..
There has to be a way to fix this; I wasn't happy re-buying all my paid apps again...
