Hi, I'm trying to revert my phone back to the its stock state, in order to try to restore its warranty.
I have the ROM I got from my network provider, but I need an unrooted JV8 kernel, and a way to restore 3E recovery.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Why doesn't Odin flash with Stock ROM work?
Because I have a backup of my cellular company's rom, but not the kernel, and I want to revert to that old rom, remove cwm, and flash that kernel through Odin.
Not sure what you intend. Flashing previous ROM should also get you previous unrooted kernel. Roms do not come without kernels I thought.

I flashed my Bell i9000m with the Speedmod rom, and it is running great. However is it possible to revert back to the stock kernel for upgrades via Kies?
Another stupid question, can Darky's rom be flashed via Odin on top of Speedmod?

Click to collapse
You can flash the stock JL2 kernel on top of the speed mod yes. If you want to keep the speedmod and are only interested in being able to upgrade, you could use the kies registry hack and trick kies into thinking your phone is at an older model, this includes the kernel, however i'm not sure what will happen because some of these roms only have some of the data needed in the flash, example is that the stock 2.1 has a sddata folder and non of the roms after that have that folder.....
Darky's rom is meant to be flashed with clock work recovery, so if you want to flash it just follow his instructions. it comes in a zip file so it can only be flashed via clockwork. Do not unzip because it's signed
Great, thank you. Gonna flash to Darky's rom after creating a nanodroid backup
As the title stated i want to get back to samsungs stock rom and kernal so i can upgrade my phone to 2.3 and get my warranty back.
First of all i need to disable the lagfix and the tweaks of course but after that should i flash back to samsungs original kernal or should i flash back to stock rom first?
My kernal version is:[email protected] #14(2.6.32.9)
Rom: I900XXJPY 2.2.1
Dumb question but i can't just upgrade my phone to 2.3 via the phone's self updater. I just want to be sure.
You don't give a ton of detail here. The first step would be to find a stock rom for your device and region (2.2.1, 2.2, 2.3 all would be OK) on samfirmware.com or ramad's collection here on XDA. Then flash with Odin.
Any stock rom that is right for your location should then update to the latest when you connect to kies (or so I hear I don't use Kies..)
It will contain a stock kernel so don't worry about that. Note though that if your phone is really screwed and that is why you are flashing a stock rom for warrenty then a custom rom might boot up but a stock rom may not.
If its just for resale then you should be good to go.

Thanks for the help man.. My phone is not screwed up but i'm starting notice that it is starting to "fall apart". So that's the reason i want my warrenty back.
I got a canadian bell gt i 900 stock rooted with gingerbread 2.3.3and i would like to flash a custom rom and kernal onto it but i need to bac.kup my stock rom first.but everytime i go to back it up i get verification errors.. so i google it and i come across something that tells me my stock kernal has e3 recovery and it needs e2. But as i google more it tells me there is no kernel for my stock rom that will work. which means i wont be able to backup my stock rom. its all kinda confusing to me and i just dont want to brick my phone. if someone could point me in the right direction tha would be apreciated.
Does anybody know of a kernel i could use to get by this?
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA
A basic rooted kernel for the Bell 2.3.3 can be downloaded from this post:

It still has the 3e recovery so may not resolve the issue you are having, but it will give you root.
i have the device rooted through super one click. but i want to be able to flash like a cynogen mod with like a smearphone kernel(sorry for bad spelling). but i cant get backups of my stock rom because i got 3e instead of 2e, therefore i get verification errors using rom manager to backup. and then i need the rom and kernel files i want to flash.
im new to flashing roms
just to be on the safe side, i wanted to know if i could revert back to stock rom if something goes wrong during the flashing process or if i dont like the new rom!
Yes, you can revert back to stock rom whenever you like
so whats bricking the phone? would it always be possible to go back to the stock rom?
Yes, as long as you are on the same baseband, we have .32 and .35 roms, so you need to have the correct one
I'd like to start playing around with ROM's for my SGN but I'd like to know if there is a way to make a backup of my current Gingerbread 2.3.6 Stock ROM.
Maybe with PC Odin? Can I dump my current ROM to a flashable file to be able to go back to stock Gingerbread whenever I want?
I'd really appreciate your help. Thank you.
Its called a nandroid
get yourself CWM recovery and then boot into it, Go to back up and job done, It will create a nandroid.
Now all you have to do is boot back into recovery and restore it when you want !
Thank you azzledazzle. I'm very familiar with CWM and Nandroid backups I was thinking that maybe there was another way. Does the Nandroid backups also backup the kernel? or would I have to downgrade to stock GB kernel first if I want to downgrade from ICS?
I do believe it backs up the kernel too, However i wouldnt recommend restoring a GB nandroid from a ICS ROM, I would suggest to flash GB in ODIN, then restore nandroid.
Flashing with odin only takes 5 mins
It might work, restoring from ICS to GB via nandroid, But i havent seen any confirmation on this, and what with the bricking risks and all that, Its better to be safe than sorry !
Thank you again. That makes sense.
One last question... maybe if you don't know someone else might:
Are all Gingerbread kernels the same, I mean are all 2.3.6 kernels the same for all Galaxy Note Stock ROM's regardless of CSC? Or is there a possibility that my current GB 2.3.6 ROM is not "compatible" with one of the existing GB 2.3.6 kernels (in case there is more than one)?
For instance if I go back to my firmware with CSC TTT and install a kernel for say CSC XME, will that work? and which CSC will my phone end up with, TTT or XME?
Thanks again for your help. Much appreciated.
