XDA to act as modem

hey guys,
I have got the XDA Stella (also known as Kaiser) and i herd you can make this phone act as a modem. basically i got an archos (media tablet with internet) which i want to be able to use the internet on my archos through the phone. only problem is i have no idea how to do this or what to get?? can anyone advise please. it would be through wireless or i can do through USB, but was wondering how to do it.
thanks in advance
Shane
Your trying to use your phone as a computer modem right.
If so what you do is this. link computer to phone via usb.
mine then ask me if i want to internet share i click that then click done. if you dont get that option try going to start/programs/connections/internet sharing
that should do what you need.

Erm he wants to share the connection with an Archos, not with a PC. That won't work.
To the OP: USB most likely won't work, as the Archos certainly won't recognise the Kaiser. On the PC it requires Activesync and its drivers to be installed to work. We never know, you can try running internet sharing onto USB and plug it into the Archos, and see...
Otherwise you'd have to use WMWifiRouter or the manual hack to share the connection over Wifi. Beware that sucks battery down like hell on the Kaiser, don't expect more than 2 hours on a full battery.
Whats the Wifirouter you mean just on a normal computer or is it software to buy for the kaiser, and the manual hack am i likely to get caught by my service provider??
there is a option to adhoc to a computer, i was wondering if there is a way to change that to the archos?
also whats the manual hack or where can i find it??
Hey man all you have to do is use search, this topic has been discussed for at least a year now..
wmWiFirouter is a program that turns your phone into a wifi access point. Again, search has all of that info for you plus tons of other great knowledge.

Thanks got wifirouter working, just cant get my archos 5 to find it now
On the WMWifirouter site there should be a list of devices that will not work.. I think PSP's do not work.

Preventing Xperia connecting without permission?

Hi there. I have a frustration with my Xperia. I know this phone is designed to be used in conjunction with the internet, but I have limited bandwidth to use. I find that my Xperia frequently connects to the internet without my knowledge. I cannot determine which programs are connecting, but is there a way I can prevent this? I would like programs to ask permission before connecting. Is there a program I can use or a setting that can help me.
I also use SPB Shell 3.5.
Thanks
there is a program called nodata. it can disable data communication in the phone. I forget the link just search this forum or use google
Im looking for app like that too.
@clodderes nodata just disables connection and you have to manually enable it. We are looking for app that will ask you if you wish to connect each time something will want to connect and then automatically enable/disable.

I Agree. One that asks would be better, but thanks clodderes because at least I can stop my phone connecting at this time. Maybe someone knows of a program that do what we want

Donut 1.6 WPA2 W/Certificates ?

Hi ,
I have Donut 1.6 and Im trying to connect to my corporate network which uses WPA2 (AES) and requires Verisign vertificates, but the android is not detecting the settings properly and even when i manually configure it, its showing the certs as empty.
Bottom line, iPhone connects to the network in a flash. G1 never did. Any idea if its possible to do this with Donut or not yet ?
I dont know why Google is not trying to make corporate users happy ?
Any help or advice is appreciated !

Any advice on how to do this from within the phone itself ? (Mine is rooted and running AOSP 1.6)
For some stupid reason Android drivers dont install properly for me. I have tried tons of articles and fixes nothing worked. So I cant adb.
Also any idea where I could find the verisign.pfx ? where is it usually located ?
Thanks alot for any help.
Your company should be providing the certificates. You can try running cyanogen mod which has enhanced credentials storage. Maybe it will work on there. Also, i gave the instructions to push that file on the phone in the other thread.
Hi, well those certificates are usually sent automatically once a device is connected to the network. I dont place those certificates manually.
Also when using an iPhone it usually asks for username and password. In the case of Android its only asking for password. Which wont get me anywhere. I think android is still not ready to connect to certain corporate networks..... :S
I tried the push instructions throught another computer but it didnt find the certificates.
Thanks anyways for your help mate.....appreciate it !
No problem. However, when its asking you for a password, is it for Credentials Storage?
You need to enter a strong password there as thats where all the settings for connecting to the network will be.
it asks for the credentials password first then the wireless pass. but never a username ! :s
hm... thats weird
did you try using the Wifi helper app on the market? the free version may be able to help you out
ok.....the good news is Wifi helper finally managed to connect me to the network
The bad news is my network uses a proxy server.......so setting the android to use the proxy turns out to be another problem
Any advice on this is VERY much appreciated !.
Thanks again

[App] sharing internet connection via bluetooth and not wifi!

Hello everyone.
This is a moment that I want an application or a "hack" to share my internet connection via bluetooth on my Windows Phone 8!
Normally called "Bluetooth Tethering". As do nearly two years I expect I decided to start developing an app that would share the internet connection via bluetooth. I myself am a developer and I have already published some applications.
However I do not have much idea about where to start and what protocols to use.
Could someone explain me more about this project can please?
What are the knowledge base to know? And what I need to start? Which may be that it is not possible to achieve this project? Thank you advise me
Thank you so much for helping me get started on this project. To take seriously please
How to take that seriously since there is no way to make that (especially for Windows Phone 8)?! Officially it's not supported. What "hack" are you talking about?! There is no way to jailbreak Windows Phone 8 for now.
Since WP8 doesn't support PAN protocol, you can't do that. You could make an application that gets internet data (FOR THE APPLICATION ONLY) via serial bluetooth connection (read more at http://32feet.codeplex.com/releases/view/100395), but nothing more.

Shame ... But thank you very much for oriented. It only remains to hope that Microsoft decides to add this feature.

[Q] Connection-Type Problem

Hi.
I started programming android app´s a couple of month ago using Android Studio. That´s why I do not know all the correct programming notation´s and just want to describe what I planning to do. Hopefully someone can give me a hint of how I should proceed.
I want to create an application witch connects a large number of “child”- devices (about 30) with one “parent” - device. In other word´s only the parent device is connected to all the others and there should be no connection between the “child” - devices.
The connection should be able to transfer simple clicks e.g. on the child-device-12 buttonA was clicked should be displayed on the parent-device screen. Furthermore the parent-device should be able to receive and store small text messages from all child-devices.
The problem I have is that i´m not sure which kind of connection I should use.
I know there is the…
… the Bluetooth connection which I can´t use because it is not possible to connect more than two devices.
… the P2P connection which is also not possible because of the same reason.
… the NFC connection which I also can´t use because of it´s short range.
… the wifi connection witch might be possible because all the approximately 31 devices will be in the same area at the moment of using the application.
… and the server/client connection witch also might be possible.
Right now I imagine something like a chat or gaming room which is hosted by the parent-device for a specified number of child-connection. In order to enter the room the parent device generates a key every time a new room is created. That key is given to all the child-device user´s so that they can enter the room.
Okay, I hope someone can help me find the best connectivity solution.
Greetings, Alex!
