looking for a good data app that will notify me when i'm reaching my limit.
I have 6GB which is plenty but i download a lot of tv shows on the fly and always cut close. So any app that i can set a schedule to worn me or even turn off data when i'm about to hit my limit? Would prefer one that is free.
So on this discussion anyone know a good streaming site for TV shows? MX Player + MU was prefect for streaming but now that's not the case since MU got shutdown
I've used 3G Watchdog for years, it's excellent and plenty configurable.
I get a text from att when I'm at 65%

I guess i have to use the Bell self serve app. Wish they texted when used 65%.
3G Watchdog is nice but i hate that it has an icon in the notification bar and is an ongoing notification the pull down.

You can turn off the icon in the settings. Don't know if that gets rid of the ongoing notification (personally I like that part).
I use an app called "Quota" from the market, you can login to your ISP's webportal to see what they THINK you have used vs what you think you have used, I find it works well

There isn't one for the ongoing notification, but if I go into 3GW, hit the little gear icon at the bottom, there's a 'Notification Icon' section in the settings, with 'never visible,' 'always visible,' and 'visible if 3G is active' options.
I used to use 3G Watchdog but I wanted to find out WHICH applications were the data hogs. I now use My Data Manager Free.

+1 "My Data Manager Free" works well
My Data Manager Free is just what i as looking for
ICS will solve all of your problems.
I started off using My Data Manager Free, but so far I've found Onavo to be much more accurate. Both months I used MDMF it was off by a few hundred mb. So far Onavo has been accurate to a few mb.

I´m looking for an app which easily let me swtich between Data-Connection on/off.
I´ve tested APN on/off widget and one which is called Toggle Data.
Both start and stop the data-connection correctly, but a few seconds after stopping the connection starts again, think thisis a HD2 specific problem, because these apps work with other phones.....
Has anyone found an app which works with the HD2 LEO?
there is a widget pre-installed that's called power control, i use it to turn on/off wifi, data, gps, and display light. I don't know if every build has it.
The build that i use has no widget called power control.....
There's plenty of widgets for this on the Market. Just do a search on there for things like "power control" or "control widget" etc..
I use SwitchPro. It's a paid app, but only cheap. It's VERY configurable and I highly recommend it.
I have tested Switch Pro.
When I try to enable/disable data connection, nothing happens.....

Are you using Gingerbread? I only ask because Gingerbread doesn't play nicely with some apps, and I found a lot of the toggles didn't work with Switch Pro on Gingerbread. I'm back to Froyo now and they all work perfectly.
Yes I´m using gingerbread.
Ok i guess this is the problem.......
Hi,
I use data enabler, its free to download from the market. It does not allow to turn off/on data connection, but it takes you to mobile network menu and with widget placed on home screen you get fast accsses to it. Works on Gingerbread without problem.
I recommend Quick Settings free from the market, does the job nicely.
Check on Market 'CurveFish'
Go to market and type in 'curvefish' They have a bunch or widget toggle switches for free. The one you will be interested in is their 'APN OnOff' app.
*Edit* Tried it, your right, turns off and then back on again. Sorry.
try Dataswitch its a free app

Agree -...it´s free and works perfect for me! (Rafdroid 2.3)
Try widgetzoid, it can do that and much more, one of my must have apps!
Apndroid works best for me, especially combined with 3g watchdog, makes sure i can't go over my limit

I turned on my just updated to LG GB Thrill this morning and there was an unsolicited icon on the desktop. I didn't put it there, and in fact I thought I put a Calendar icon where it is. The icon does not show up in my app tray or in my list of widgets or shortcuts. It's a purplish icon with the magenta words "Games & Apps" in some futuristic font on it, with a white chess piece in the upper left, a white jet in the upper right, a white chat in the lower right, and a dartboard in the lower right, and it's labeled Apps.
I assume it was forced there by one of the few apps I've downloaded in the last day and half, although I wouldn't put it past AT&T. I mostly suspect a Roulette app or a ringtone editor, since the other few apps I downloaded I had been using recently on the previous ROM.
Is there any way to determine where this icon came from? (I want to rate down the app and uninstall it, at the least.) How can I trace its origin?
(I assume I can trash it, although I'm waiting until I find out where it came from.)
Rick
I'm guessing the ringtone maker, I've gotten these annoying ad app icons, and even annoying bookmarks in my browser that I can't delete or it will crash

Download "addons detector" from the market and run a scan. Sounds like your getting push ads.

Ok this is driving me crazy, randomly the app watch on will pop up in my notification bar. I disable it and it will just pop up again at a random time. Does anyone know how to permanently remove? besides freezing it of course

This just started happening to me the other day. I don't understand why because it hasn't done it before. I too disabled the notification and it automatically turns itself back on. I cleared the data and started over but that did not help. I froze the app with tbu a little bit ago because I rarely use it. It is frustrating because that is one of the only Samsung apps that I like. I too would like to know of a fix for it.

holllly cow. I have been battling this for 3 days now. I thought it was just my phone being supper glitchy. I have gone as far as to uninstall the app... witch will stop it from comming up in the notification bar. Then i re download it from play store. After about 4 reboots it comes back. I will set it in the setting to not come on in notification pannel. Boom its back. No way to stop it..... same with a few other apps. Its like they do not close the correct way and do not save the settings. My swannview dvr app is one more that wont save settings because it won't close correctly.
I don't know if this narrows it down but I noticed when I had wifi turned off I never got it but the second I turned it back on it started popping up again.
I have the same problem. This morning, while trying to disable the notification bar setting again, I got nag popup about allowing Watchon to use mobile data or only wifi. I selected the allow mobile data option and do not ask me again. Now, I can't find the setting to change it back to see if that would affect the notification bar problem. I don't want to test all of the settings because I would lose the devices that I have setup. I assume the problem is caused by an update to Watchon. The only thing I have changed recently us switching to Nova Launcher. Could this be related?

Judging by this I would assume it is the location settings that is triggering this. Try to go to system settings > More > Location services > My places > Choose the places and click none. I can't confirm this works, but it seems that this is triggering for the problem. Also note this isn't a great solution; other location services may be affected with this change.
This is caused by the latest WatchOn update.
I use WatchOn since the day I get my S4 Active (2 months ago) and this NEVER HAPPENED before the update.
I had to disable WatchOn with TB.
Another example of Samsung messing up good stuff!

It has nothing to do with location services. All of mine were already set to none, and I have the same problem.

Sorry then, it must have been the WatchON lock screen location settings I was thinking of. No clue, honestly.
So did this ever get worked out? I just got the note 3 and am already seeing this behavior.
SOLUTION!..
Here is how i disabled remote control on notification panel and lock screen.
Its on Watchon Settings.
watch work done
This is what I did:
Settings
More
Application Manger
Samsung WatchOn
Remove the check for "Show Notifications"
This doesn't stop the program from starting on powerup, but it removes it from the notifications.
This is a thread that should be closed. The problem was fixed by an update. I can confirm that it did exist at one time, but the only people that still have thre problem either have not updated or they have not changed their settings.

This is the app I use to block ads when I don't have access to root. Two annoying things about it. The first is that it will mess up your battery stats. Everything gets filtered through this app so it can scrub out the ads on web pages. This makes the phone think that the app is using a ton of battery. It's not using any extra battery it's just having all traffic pass through it. It explains this when you install the app.
Also there is a persistent notification in the notification shade and if you try to disable it, after a certain amount of time Android will kill the app in the background and ads will appear again. I don't like clutter in the notification shade so it bugs me.
Other than those 2 things this is AdAway without root. Enjoy.

My ads keep coming back and I have to disable and re enable Adguard. I have both the status bar notification running and the notification shade persistent notification running at all times. I went into settings and disabled battery optimization for the Adguard app as well. It still stops functioning after a while. This is why I can't live without root....
Not sure why your adguard keeps stopping - I have never had this problem. But you can get rid of the persistent notification easily. Android Settings -> Sound & Notification -> App notifications -> Adguard -> Never show notifications from this app .
Persistent noticiation never appears again.
Did this on day 1, bought the lifetime subscription for about $4 in rubles on the website.

I stopped the notification the moment I installed it. Without the notification Adguard eventually falls out of ram and then the ads really come back. The notification needs to be there apparently. The weird thing is there is no way to get rid of the key in the status bar, you would think that would be enough. Who knows. My ads come back no matter what I do lol

Strange. I suppose it's possible that just hasn't happened to me yet? I've had no problems with it staying running so far.
Another idea, I use an app called KeepRunning to restart my spam call blocking software automatically. ShouldIAnswer also wants to run in the foreground, and of course have a persistent notification. I would just have blocked that like AdGuard, but it actually has notifications that I want to see, and it's all or nothing with blocking notifications. So instead I use the option to run it in the background, and monitor it with KeepRunning to be sure it gets restarted if it dies. You could use this technique for Adguard too. It's not perfect because it causes some UI effects when restarting the softare, but it seems to happen so rarely it's not a problem at least for me.
There's also Tasker which you could use to monitor and restart adguard, but I was too lazy to figure out how to do it with Tasker, so just paid $2 for KeepRunning instead
I figured out how to get the ads to stop coming back. It was a setting in Adguard. Settings > Advanced > Low Level Settings: pref.vpn.disable.pause <---------- Check the box next to that.

I too am using Adguard. First nonrooted phone I have had in a long time but have to make it work for my job. I bought the app after using it for the 2 week trial period. I am not seeing any ads getting thru. Seems to work as well as Adaway did on my rooted Turbo and does on my 2013 nexus 7 tablet. Don't notice any performance issues or excess battery drain, at least not after 3 weeks.

hmm it doesn't let me install the app
Blockade on the XDA store works really well. some ads still make it through, but for being a non root app it works well.

Damn shame Emui doesn't have within it's settings an option for "WiFi control history". Samsung does. , I was looking for it myself recently.

Its under Wireless & networks,Data usage,Data usage this month. Now I never looked to see what is at the moment using WIFI.. I think thats what your talking about. Should be a APP for that yes?
