I was very excited about this phone when AT&T announced that they would be adding it to their lineup but now I'm starting to have some reservations because of its size. I've seen some videos on youtube comparing the size to the SGS II, Nexus, Skyrocket, etc. It looks freaken huge.
I know the HW wise the AT&T version and the European version are different. I don't care about that, I only care about the size. Does anyone find the phone to be too cumbersome or bulky?

In my honest opinion, no. It's big, no doubt about that, but I have never felt that it's too big. I have slightly larger hands than normal, but many of my friends have tried it and none of them complained about it being too big to hold. My girlfriend on the other hand can't even hold it in one hand, so it's probably not a good phone for people with small hands.
It's thin so it goes down into my normal sized jeans pockets without any problem.
My recommendation: If you have normal sized hands and pockets, buy it, you won't regret it.
i find the size to be perfect, in fact, i would happily go up to 5.5inch or even 5.7 if they made it! after a day, you wont notice any difference and you'll wonder why you never had a huge screen phone before (because no-one made one, but thats not the point).

The only way to find out is to try it out your self. I remember thinking my sgs2 was too big until I actually held it. But it does boil down to personal preferences. Also I don't think anyone here will tell you it's too big(It's NOTE FORUM)

Sorry couldn't resist above comment.... On a serious Note (pun intended), you will probably get used to the handset within a couple of days after seeing everything on a larger screen and then wonder how you got by all this time with smaller screens.
Just to be clear the screen size is 5.3 inches but the phone from top to bottom is 5.8 inches correct?
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
yeap that's correct. I had doubts Note would be too big for me but after i get used to the large screen now i'm really happy with dimensions. It's big but not bulky and heavy. It's actually very light and slim. I didn't know that galaxy tab 7" plus has phone capability on honeycomband os. I thought to myself after i learnt it today if 7" would be even better. But i checked the technical spesifications and learnt that it is twice heavy (360g) with lower cpu power (1.2 GHz) and wider chasis around screen. So i'm pretty happy with weight and dimensions for now. Just longing for ICS official release to take full benefit of the hardware and use tablet mode like HC software wise.
I was using S2 and when Note launched , I thought what the hell is this ?
thought it's too big! one day I was shopping with me mate, he after the Note and he got it.
putting my S2 aside his newly acquired Note, My S2 was like a toy and was amazed by how much the screen looks better than my S2 .
Then we go back to the shop to get myself a Note as well.
Its big, obviously but after 3 days of use, I found the size is perfect.
except for sometimes one hand operation is virtually impossible.
it is awkward at best as a one handed since you can't reach the far Corners or the other edge of the screen. but outside of that it's fantastic
I just received my white note literally 2 hours ago and when I opened the box and first saw it sitting there I said out loud "wow"
I played with it for an hour and then put it on charge, while i do some work I need to do
I have since made and received 3 or 4 calls and I am used to it already and I do not consider it too big. But I am a person who always considered phone screens to be too small for anything useful, and until this phone haven't been motivated to change my HTC Touch HD. yeah I know sort of out of the arc.
Also I was considering buying a tablet, purely for aeroplanes and trains as to use my 18.4 inch laptop in a plane etc is a bit inconvenient. (but needed for how I use it generally). now i shall no longer buy a tablet as even with my short play i can see it can do what i was considering a tablet for.
But you really need to go and hold one and try it for yourself as other peoples and my opinion is always going to be from our perspective, which may not suite yours
seeya Ian
p.s the call quality was superb just like a phone should be and as far as I remember better than all my other phones
Thanks for the opinion guys. I'm getting real excited about it now. Only a few more days before we can pre-order. I know the specs aren't the same but I hope the AT&T version performs just as good as the international.
I was like you and had some concerns about the size, but I ordered the international version anyway. I've had it for about a week now and I find the size to be a non factor.
I have small hands. I can still use the phone with one hand with some maneuvering, but I don't find it too distracting. Sometimes the bottom of my thumb joint hits the applications button by accident when I try to reach for something in the far left top corner but I learned to adjust to it.
I love the phone and its size. I got used to it very quickly and don't even think about it now. It fits fine in all my pant pockets. The screen is beautiful and makes reading, watching videos such a joy. I don't think I'll be able to go back to a phone with anything less than 5" now.
It's just a wonderful phone.
Had the Galaxy Note for 4 days and it gets smaller by the day.
I'm on my second day with the Note, and am still adjusting to the size. By no means do I regret getting it, but it does mean that I need to walk a bit more carefully with it in my front jeans pocket (yes, they're a rather slim pair). I wouldn't dare sit with it in that pocket.
This is the first phone that can legitimately replace 98+% of my need for a laptop on-the-go, so I'll gladly live with that sacrifice.
Was doubting the purchase until I first inserted the battery, oh the gorgeous screen!
Nope, its the perfect size (this is 3 months into owning one).
Best phone I've ever had. (and I've had quite a few)
Seems large at first, but now! Now I get my iphone friends asking to see videos on my phone-"cause it looks better"
Size you get used to!

On a serious "note" .... The 5.3' Screen size is amazing. So much on screen real estate for browsing, gaming drawing. There is a reason Samsung is selling so many Galaxy Notes. I was just typing something on my iPhone 3GS (Which i use for iPod purposes in the car) and damn that screen felt like a calculator hahah ...

You can always check out the device when it stocks arrive, Initially I thought it was very big for a mobile phone but after testing out the dummy phone I found that its actually a perfect size for a mobile phone for either landscape or portrait use.. I use it mainly in portrait. Also going back to a smaller phone might be hard for me which Im going to do eventually.

Galaxy Note it's not too big, the other phones are too small. Screen size on the phones have been increasing for years. I remember my Nokia with a 2" 176x220 screen, and thinking that you can really read some text there (previous phones had monocrome, 2 text lines screen). Then it went to 3.5" screens (the same as the iPhone, jajaja, it has the same size I had in 2006).
I remember the times when people said that 4" was too big, and now only the iPhone has a screen below 4" (and it will be solved on the iPhone 5). So 4.3-4.5" is normal for many people. 5.3 just makes it better, more glass and more pixels to work with. I can type in portrait mode without pressing 4 keys at the same time. Playing a 720p video on this screen impresses everyone.

Hi Guys,
I am about to buy Galaxy Note. But from reviews from my friends,Galaxy S2 is much better than Galaxy Note.
Please Help me to choose Galaxy Note or S2.I know this thread might be repeated, but all those reviews where when the Galaxy Note was Just launched.
Hope you would share your views on both.
Thank You!
SGS2 has a pathetic battery, if you can deal with that, then go for SGS2. If you like the big screen and SPEN then the note is for you.
Also SGS2 has a strange greenish hue in the camera pictures, while pictures from the note is perfect.
I have both. I am going to sell my S II though. In my opinion:
1. In terms of OS optimizations S II is better. But it is quite normal as Note has just arrived. And with every firmware update Note is getting better.
2. Battery life on S II is not 'Pathetic'. With right setting and optimizations you can easily enjoy more than a day's service with a single full charging. However with similar usage you will get better battery life in Note.
3. Screen in note is wayyy better than S II (I bet you know that already!).
4. GPS on Note is better here in Bangladesh. I went India last month My note's GPS was very very good. SII was ok.
5. One hand operation in note is quite troublesome. But you can do things with this big screen which are impossible in S II.
6. Stock apps in Note and S II are pretty similar. However some apps have more features in Note.
7. In my experience camera in both devices are very similar. I did not have any problem with my SII camera.
Both are very good devices. You wont regret with any of these. If price is not a factor and if you feel comfortable with the size, go for the Note.
BTW, stick to Xda-Developer. Without the goodies you'll find in Xda no matter what android device you get, it is destined to suck.
Thank you.
Hackerboi sums it up quite well.
Mostly it is a matter of what you want your phone for:
1. Note: if you want to write/sketch, do business related work on a large screen, watch videos on large screen, read on a large screen
2. GSII: if you need a phone in your pocket with which to text, engage in social media, music, navigation and other general smartphone stuff.

I have both, the SII and the Note. I much prefer the Note. If you don't mind the size that is. It's not as optimized (OS wise) YET. and I really mean YET. My SGSII wasn't the greatest the first day either, it took a few updates. I haven't had any crashes or anything like that on my Note. Battery life is SUPERB. Last night (after a full day, mostly working, admitting I didn't use the screen a lot) I had 75% battery left when I went to bed. I woke up and still had 60% with wifi, 3g, bluetooth on, and actively syncing. So I know today, Saturday, I'll get through another day with the battery. I'm hydrating up now to go for a run (with the Note) and use Endomondo, which is a great app.
Screen is FANTASTIC on the Note. The screen is also good on the SII. They're both good devices, but they're also very different. GPS on the Note is REALLY good, SGSII is OK. It takes a little to get a lock. Screen size on the note is the best. S-pen helps me out a lot. I use it to jot down notes super fast. The screen size also helps with typing (a lot less guessing on behalf of the phone).
I'd go for the Note, but be warned, it's big and comfortable one handed use is out of the question. I can make a call, read emails and browse sites with one hand, but ANY form of real interaction is also out of the question.

I don't see why it's uncomfortable. Well, since the phone is wider, you need to know where to place your ear, after a few phone calls you'll instinctively know where to put it. I guess it does look weird from the point of view of an iPhone user, or a Blackberry device. This phone is HUGE. Check out this link with some comparison pictures of other phones I have around the house.
Frankly, I'm comfortable with it. It doesn't bother me. The experience of the large screen is everything I could ever ask for in a mobile device:
Great battery life
Large Screen
Great camera
Easy typing experience with keyboards
I hope I've helped.
It can be a little awkward making a call using the note at first but trust me I had no issues at all in a couple of days. It seems like the perfect size for me now. Apart from the size factor the note beats the s2 in many ways. Go for it, you wont be disappointed.

The vast majority of people who say that haven't really used the phone for any signifigant period of time.
My guess would be, the 'getting used to it' hump is probably 1 week. After that, if you are still happy with the size of the phone, then the phone just gets better and better after that.
- Frank
Thinking of getting one of these. Glad to see the pocketability is good. Since I don;t buy cases this should not be an issue. I would imagine an Otterbox on this would put it it in "man purse" territory LOL
Just waiting for more optimization and lower used price points because I intend to keep the SGS II as a back up until I am sure the Note is better. Alos am concerned about losing my MediaNet UL data plan...Not sure I want to pay $220 more a year for 600MB of Carrier data I use over the 200MB plan.

I think it looks awesome The worst thing that people might think about you is that you are the geekiest geek in the place
Hi Everybody!
So after 4 years with my iPhone 4, I think it might be about time to get a new phone. The Z3 Compact looks and sounds like the a really great phone for me, I like almost everything such as the speed, water-resistance, design, Sony skin etc.
BUT, I'm really not sure about the size. I'm just not sure it it's too small for me or just right. Consider this: The vast majority of the time spent with my current iPhone 4 (3.5') I use it for browsing the web (reading stuff) one-handed (either because the other hand is doing something else or just because it's more comfortable). So being able to use it one-handed is important to me, but then, so is easy readability. One of my worries going with a huge new phone is that it won't be as comfortable in one-handed use. I'm not the only person who has a smartphone in this world, so I did get to use the Nexus 5 (4.95') and found that while it isn't as comfortable as my iPhone 4 it is perfectly usable with one hand. The Galaxy Note 1 (5.3') I used on the other hand, not so much. If I decide I go with a bigger phone it will be the Galaxy S5 (5.1'), the LG G2 or the big Z3 (both 5.2'). I probably will be able to use these regularly with one hand (especially since I don't think these device are as big, chunky and clunky as the original Note), but nevertheless it won't be as comfortable, wheres with the Z3 Compact (4.6') I'm sure it'll be perfectly comfortable to use one-handed.
So what I'm wondering is - is the sacrifice in comfort even worth it? I mean, the vast majority of the time I use my phone not for playing games or watching movies, but rather for reading stuff, whether it's browsing the web or messaging (although I'm also thinking about starting with reading ebooks). When I use my teeny iPhone 4 (3.5') I don't really think "wow this is so small I can't read anything" (especially since almost all websites nowadays have a mobile view), although when I use a bigger device I defiantly notice that reading is easier. But will the half an inch difference (and 1080P resolution, whether that makes a difference or not) between the 4.6' Z3 Compact and bigger devices with 5.1'/5.2' displays really make a significant difference in reading? That's what I'm wondering and hope you guys and gals can help me figure out. However keep in mind that I want to make this discussion purely about what size is better for me, not about the features and prices of all these different phones which I am well aware of.
TL;DR: I want to know if a bigger display will make reading significantly easier and better - enough to sacrifice a little in one-handed use comfort.
Buy a Kindle, your eyes and you will thank me later.

I'm asking you people because since I haven't used any new device extensively I'm really not sure how much half an inch difference and 1080P resolution (such is the difference between the 4.6' Z3 Compact and larger devices such as the 5.1' S5) can make reading easier, so I'm asking you people who have more experience and might know.
And I'm not going to buy a kindle because I need a smartphone for reading web stuff on-the-go.
Where are you based?
In the UK phone shops have the Z3C in store, often with working wifi so you could pop in and compare reading an article on your favourite online publications on that and other phones such as the Z3 or S5 to decide if the difference bothers you.
I *personally* believe 4.6" is a large enough, in fact the 4.3" screen that the Z1C had was one of the few things that bothered me about that phone. And this is from someone who owns the LG G2 and still loves it - the extra screen area is only noticeably better when watching youtube videos or playing games.
I've used the following phones as daily drivers, in this order, primarily for reading ebooks, forums, and general web browsing:
IPhone 4
Note 2
Note 3
Nexus 5
Z3 Compact
My opinion is the Z3c is so far the best of the lot due to a nearly ideal mix of size, power, and battery stamina.
I wouldn't willingly go back to any of the other devices except the Nexus 5, which I intend to keep as a backup phone.
Sent from my D5803 using Tapatalk
Obviously they scale fonts/images/icons for the smaller screen. Some things appear smaller, and other things are sized fine but you just can't get as many on the screen. You have to decide for yourself, but it is entirely a matter of comfort and not function.
As for me, I wanted a phone that I couldn't feel in my pocket with top-tier speed and a strong battery and a decent camera. As a plus, the daylight readability and weatherproofing make it a very nice go-anywhere phone. I sampled a lot of phones this year, and I'm very satisfied to settle with this one for a while.

I am well aware that the Z3 Compact is awesome feature-wise. However, didn't you feel that going down in screen size in comparison to the larger phones is kind of downside, and a detract when reading web-content/forums/ebooks? When you say that the Z3c is "nearly ideal mix of size..." do you mean it feels slightly too small for your everyday use (which is going to be pretty similar to my everyday use)?

Not at all. I went up in size after the IPhone because I thought it was too small, and, after experiencing the advantages and disadvantages of the larger phones, found myself moving back down in size, first to the N5 and now, smaller still, to the Z3c.
At this point I found I've gone nearly full circle, with a device somewhat larger than my original iPhone, but significantly smaller than the other Androids, and I'm finding this size to be the best overall experience for my use cases.
Specifically, for me, that means I want to read on a comfortably pocketable device with a bright, clear screen and not run out of power before I get back to a charger.
I believe this device meets that mix of my requirements better than any of the previous ones I have owned.
I haven't been bothered in the slightest by the downsize in physical screen dimensions or resolution when reading books, forums or websites.
The only adjustment I've had to consciously make is to change my typing style from my previous "tap each letter individually" preference to the "slide continuously to each letter in the word" style due to an unacceptably higher error rate of the former style on the smaller keyboard - a change I probably should have made a long time ago anyway.

Hi there I had similar concerns when I was looking for a new phone. Here's my thought process:
- When you are talking about one hand usability you can't only talk about screen size.
1. Example: While the 4.7" screen of the iphone6 is basically operable with one hand (provided you have big hands) the space that you need to be able to reach with your thumb is actually quite alot bigger, because of the homebutton placement. So when you're talking one hand use the iphone6 has actually a over 5" space that you need to be able to reach, which really is too big for "normal" sized hands.
2. Example: HTC Mini 2 (almost bought that one), the screen is 4.5" with on screen buttons meaning you only have to operate a 4.5" surface which is perfect for my hands. BUT the only way to power up the phone is with the power button on the top making it uncomfortable to use. You basically need to move your hand upwards to reach that button, while holding it with one hand and then back down again. Very risky maneuver if you ask me.
--> Z3C has none of these issues. You wake up by double tap, and control everything on the 4.6" screen. No need to reach any buttons which means you never have to adjust your hand while using the phone. That's way more comfortable and you reduce the risk of dropping it while adjusting.
Btw: Most of the time I'm using an app to switch off the phone (screen off and lock), swipe up from the on screen home button = screen off. If you don't wanna use those features: the power/lock button is placed perfectly for your thumb (right hand) or your index (left hand), whenever i grab the phone the button is right under my finger without me thinking about it.
-Now obviously in terms of actually using the phone to browse, read, game, do whatever the screen needs to be as big as possible while still being operable by one hand. But "handed" use means the furthest you will hold your phone away from your eyes is one arm length. Fully stretching your arm isn't really comfortable so let's say its a bit less than a full arm length. I personally am usually resting my arm on my belly while holding it, so thats not even half a meter (~20"). And I have to say with regular font settings the screen and more importantly the font sizes are almost too small. Coming from a 4.8" SGS3 i had to get used to the smaller fonts and screen, then I found the setting to increase font size and now it's not an issue anymore
-->I'm always able to rest comfortably when using it, without having to pull it in front of my face (iphone syndrom) to actually see anything... And that is the important factor for me. But I have to add: I also have a tablet. When I spend more than ~10min reading or writing stuff I usually switch to it. That was the main reason for me to get a "smaller" phone- no need for a phablet here. (4 Years ago people were laughing at my HUGE 4.3" DesireHD )
-In conclusion Sony did a really good job here IMHO. Comparison: The phone has a much bigger screen than the iphone 5S, but the size of the surface you need to operate is actually about the same because of very small bezels and intelligent button placement.
But it also really depends on what you want to do with it and on your hand size. For watching the occasional movie the Z3C would be definately too small for me. If you have really big hands I guess you could easily operate a 4.8-4.9" screen if the button placement doesnt get in the way. But for me the Z3C has that sweet spot in terms of size and great hardware... When I read the specs I instantly knew that was going to be my next phone.
Another little thing: The Z3C has exactly the same weight as the iphone 6, almost the same screen size but a 2600mAh battery compared to a 1810mAh in the iphone...
The Nexus 6 is big, no getting around that. I played with one in Sprint before Verizon got it so I knew rather or not to wait. I waited and I'll probably get it in the next week or so. My question is how long did it take to get fully adjusted to the size? Is it still/ was it ever a hindrance? When I first saw it it reminded me of my Razr M in that it's more screen than phone, so it isn't as big as you imagine. I view the size as a plus, but know that it takes some adjusting. Any info on adjusting to the size is welcome.
I remember thinking the Droid X was going to be too big. Like all things your brain adjusts to the change.
I was going through my old phones the other day and picked up my galaxy s3 it looked like a postage stamp. How did I ever use a phone so small I asked?
The Nexus 6 is kind of tight in the front pocket but it's really not that much worse than anything else.

Coming from the Nexus 5, my initial reaction was that this Nexus 6 is huge! I'd say it was about 3 days in that I adjusted and going back to the N5 felt too small. Sometimes it is hard to use one handed but root it and (if your right-handed) just switch the “back" and "recent apps" button around. My desktop has been collecting dust since I've had this phone! YouTube, Netflix, movie, and music on this phone shows what this phone was made for!
I came from the Note 3 and I really don't even notice the difference in size.

After the first day or two, you don't notice it anymore. You do notice how small other phones are when you start using another one, though.
Is the width still a problem for anyone? In my time playing with it the width and reaching the back soft key or the left side or portrait mode required shifting the phone. This is normal right?
Is the upgrade worth it? Ordered a Samsung tab s2 9.7 but haven't second thoughts , is it really worth he 400 quid to upgrade
I prefer the new form factor but I don't think it's worth that kind of money upgrading from my Tab Pro 10.1, let alone the Tab S.
I did it. . No regrets. . Love the upgrade

I did it, and would do it again. Last year's model was nice, and when I saw this year's model, I was kinda upset about them changing the aspect ratio. After seeing, and using the s2 in person at BestBuy, I understood why Sammy went with 4:3 now, and I have to say I prefer it.

Yeah, it's as good. And performance is WAY better. And the 4:3 is better too.

It's not as sharp if you compare them carefully side by side. Whether you'll notice the difference or be bothered by it in normal use, that's impossible to say as it's up to the individual.

Hammm I'm fussy. I would notice. Need to see it in store first I think
It's really not THAT noticeable. Like Nasty said, the performance is MUCH better. It's night and day honestly.
But it shouldn't really be any different . At least the same.
No, do not get on the tab s2 bandwagon. I have a 9.7 and an 8.0, both have same problem. When battery hits 8 percent the screen goes blank and unit will not respond. Must press and hold power button to reboot but they won't because the battery gauge now reads 0.
5.1.1 also ruined fingerprint sensor for me. Going back to the heavier note 12.2.

I've personally never experienced that problem on my 9.7,been as low as 8% on a few occasions & nothing has gone blank, when I hit 5% the screen goes dimmer which I guess is a battery saving feature,I usually let it get to 3% and stick it on the charger, change it for another one.

I didnt like the speaker arrangement on S2. Now when you watch movie, the sound is overloaded on one side! LOL! That is stupid!
I'm a avid tablet upgrader. I used to do it more often, now I"m down to once a year. However, my last 3 have all been samsungs. Including the S and now the S2. I do a lot of public speaking and use my tablet, so I thought the smaller form factor would be a negative, BUT I was so frustrated with the positioning of the home button and associated buttons on the S, that it was worth the smaller size to get it at the bottom of the tablet. I've loved it since I've got it. Lighter, sleeker, and I haven't noticed any negative related to battery live or display. My 1 complaint, is the lack of a keyboard like we had with the S. I used it frequently at conferences and in travel to take notes... unfortunately it's not an option yet on the S2.

There is a keyboard case by samsung out
I love my S2 - 9.7 and once we can get CM12 on it...... it will be perfect.
I dislike the 4:3 screen.
Can't wait to get mine tomorrow
Money no problem and I was thinking of getting the S2. Then I go to BB and play with it and the sound is super terrible. It sound tiny and very weak compared to my first gen Tab S.
Why is Samsung doing this?
I hate the s7. Slow and laggy. Not to mention locked boorloadet. S8 any better?
I made the jump and this device is unbelievably better. Smoothest sndroid phone I've owned since the HTC One X, which was my favorite android phone of all time. After one week of pretty heavy use, no lag. Hate to say it like this but the UI is as smooth as iPhone, minimal if ever stutters. I recommend making the jump. Also the display is as incredible as all the reviews say

I've had S7, S7e, HTC 10, and iPhone 7Plus in last year. Jumped to the S8 (standard, not plus). Absolutely happy with my decision. Easily the best phone I've had. UI smooth as butter with no lags, Camera is fast enough that I sometimes take 2-3 pictures before I actually realize the first press of shutter actually took one (quality top notch as well), Screen is gorgeous, storage is abundant, battery life is good (avg 4hr screen time and 28hr per charge for me), iris scanner works through sunglasses and is great extra security.
Only weird thing is fingerprint location...works best of you're holding phone left handed. I just use the iris scanner anyway. My only concern is protecting the beautiful screen...nearly no truly protective or fully effective tempered glass protectors, but I'll take my chances.
I don't think you'll regret it one bit if you go with it.
If you have the money to blow sure, performance wise you are not going to notice anything. The camera is basically the same, front I believe is 8 instead of 5 mp. It is a larger screen, but the aspect ratio is a little weird. But with larger screen at Max resolution your battery is going to die a lot faster. I think you would be better off waiting till the note 8. If I could go back I would have stuck with my S7 edge and waited for the note 8. Still a great phone, but nothing ground breaking.

I had the note 3 then note 5 and now the S8. I can say the only reason that i would have stayed on my prior phone is because root. There is no root method on here yet and you should stay with S7 until we have root and ROMs to choose from. Here's something that may make your phone snappier:
1. Go to settings
2. Click on Developer tab
3. Scroll to Windows animation scale change it to 0.5
4. Go to transition animation scale change it to 0.5
5. Go to Animator duration scale change it to 0.5
Good luck!

I do not own an S7, however I will say the S8 is an amazing device. It's fast as can be, and very smooth. No lag. I put a black Spigen thin fit case on it.
It's everything it's cracked up to be. I'm delighted about how great this device is. The only issue I had was deciding to get the S8 or plus, and I'm very happy I got the regular SO because I didn't realize how much bigger the screen actually is on the regular one. It takes a little while to get used to but the screen is really big.
The S8 is a monster jump, not an incremental one. Every device, except possibly the S7 edge (due to the screen shape) was an incremental change. Small improvements that were debateable in terms of being worth spending your hard earned money. This device is absolutely worth the jump, and I'm totally satisfied spending my money on this. Honestly I have no idea what they can improve, and what could make me buy another phone. This device has it all. Even the battery life is great.
The only "complaints" people have are annoyances. Yeah, the fingerprint scanner is annoying but you get used to it. Yeah the clock on the always on display is weird and annoying. Bixby is kind of useless. But those are, at best, annoyances. The phone itself is just incredible. For 800 dollars, it better be. It truly is worth the money and it puts a smile on my face every time i pick it up.
Buy one.

You have to find something to complain about with a phone of this magnitude, and of course people will always latch onto them. I have no doubt that within a few months these will fade away in light of the greater changes on the phone. I'm upgrading from an S4, so it's a monumental change for me... and even with Bixby, there is no way I'm not going to be shell-shocked and impressed.
If you're switching from an S4 the change would be jaw dropping.
This phone (S8) is the best upgrade I've ever had in any single electronics device that wasnt revolutionary, like the PC or first iPhone.
Everything is better, and I'm not just saying that. Opening web pages is faster, switching apps is instant, opening navigation is instant, watching a YouTube video, switching to mail, reading that email, switching back to YouTube is just astonishing how quickly it all happens. Just opening this website and typing on the keyboard is flawless and enjoyable, my old phone was laggy and a pain to do a long response on a message board. Not anymore.
It really is amazing how awesome this phone is. Every single experience when it comes to the phone itself is improved. Again, i don't see how they can make this device better unless new technology is needed (such as Bluetooth 15.0). Could it possibly have better speakers? Of course. But I'm worried about things like speed, response, performance and the screen. I just can't see how they can make a phone faster, or the screen bigger. It's almost edge to edge top to bottom and the only way to get a bigger screen is to get a bigger phone, and I don't want that. It fits perfectly in my hand and I have the font tiny and I can read everything clearly. This phone delivers on everything and I just couldn't be happier (the screen is really something to behold, you'll see). It even looks good in the sunlight and it's pretty much water proof! (I wouldn't swim with it but I wouldn't be worried at all to take a picture while it's raining).
They'd have to invent a phone that does my dishes for me to want to upgrade again, that's how good this thing is. It does everything and it does everything well. I give it a 10/10 because I won't hold something like the fingerprint scanner against them, i consider that personal preference.
Don't believe anyone who says this thing isn't incredible. Walk into a store and check out the display model for yourself. It's well worth the money.
I think the question from the OP is *IF* the jump to the S8 from the S7/S7E is worth it. No one is debating if the S8/S8+ is a terrific device, I think we can all agree that it is. (even though I personally do not own one). I have used the S8+ at length, and yes I think its amazing... however, that being said - I choose NOT to upgrade from my S7E at this time. I think I will hold off until the Note 8 and decide then. I think that might help answer the original posters question without offending anyone who does have the S8/S8+
Since owning the s4 i jumped ship to nexus phones. Because touchwiz lag as hell. I sold the nexus 6p and tried s7 edge. And touchwiz lag still there on the s7 edge. Sold the s7 edge and got the regular s8 and i can tell s8 is smooth like nexus phones. And im glad i tried the s8 again. Hhappy camper here

Oh hell yes, I've already jumped ship with the S8. Unfortunately I am studying abroad and won't be able to get back home for a few more weeks -- then I can finally meet my new S8. And yes, coming from an S4 (which poorly survived an ocean drop), I'm practically salivating at the prospect. The camera could have better, sure. They didn't need to include the atrocious Bixby, definitely. But it's such a great prospect upgrading after 4 years... and I'm hoping that it will be good for me for another 4 years at least, if not more. Meanwhile, my friend with a Nexus 6P is already itching to upgrade to a OP5 when it comes out... heh.
Short answer - Yes
Long answer - Jumped from S7 Edge to S8. Have to say this is the best phone I have ever had. I was a huge fan of the physical home button but I rarely miss it at all. The only problem is me hitting the snooze in the morning on my alarm not as easily as with a button. Fingerprint scanner in the back is super quick and not bad at all. That's how I naturally hold my phone for the most part anyways and I have big hands so there is no real struggle. I've always been wanting to play emulated games on my phone and this thing can handle Gamecube games for Dog's sake! I have a Madcatz controller that is great for gaming with phones and makes the torture that is the MBTA go by like nothing. My brother got one shortly after I got mine and he also says it's the best phone he's ever had. He came from a dying S5 Edge I think. We also got both our phones for $0 down and just restarted payments on a new device. Battery life is way better than S7 at this point and I'm about 40% when I leave work usually. As opposed to S7 where I would have to re-charge at about 3pm if I didn't want it to die on the way home. But as with all Androids the early battery life is way better in the beginning as opposed to 6 months to a year later. Time will tell though.
Edit - Forgot to mention the display. I wasn't a display snob by any means but this phone has now made me one. Incredible, especially when gaming. Completely immersive with the minimal bezels and edge to edge display. It's like a floating screen that encompasses your entire field of vision. Twilight Princess, Smash Bros, and FF7 never looked so good.
Yes, noticeable improvement in performance. That weird S7E lag thing is gone and battery is noticeably better. I think back to the first few months with my S7E, it might have been closer but after a year, the degregation in battery life makes the new s8 seem significantly better. That alone is worth it to me.
