Anyway I'm hoping that someone could point me in the direction of it already resized for touchpad. Also have been toying with the sound but no luck for me. I'm happy I've made it this far. I wish I could put a link to the YouTube video but have no clue how to. Its on there search bad android boot animation

Which boot animation? You don't specify.
You can try the fix for full screen boot animation that gav_chap posted in the development forum. I'm using it and it's working for me. Instructions are in the post. All you have to do is flash the zip. If you don't like it, he's posted a way to revert it.

Sorry should have been more clear. The name of the boot animation is "bad android ". Its for cm7 android 2.3.7 and its on a HP touchpad. 768 x 1024.

[BOOTSCREEN] craig0r's Cylon BootScreen - UPDATED - v0.8

LATEST UPDATE: I will start working on this again soon. I didn't realize so many people had downloaded it until today when I went to add this thread to the Hero wiki. I will not be replacing the initial "Hero" splash screen, as that requires the installation of an unlocked HardSPL, and I don't have a reason to unlock my own SPL.
Hey all.
So, remember way way back in Android's pre-release days when the boot screen was an oscillating red dot, similar to the eye of a Cylon? Well, it was always my favourite boot animation, so I decided to bring it back. I found an animated gif on the net, removed the word "ANDROID" from it, made it fit our resolution, and voila. Here it is.
I've updated this considerably. I did some smoothing on the red animation so it won't look so pixel-y, I've scaled down the animated gif so that it doesn't get nearly as choppy as it did before, and removed that pesky red dot on the left side. It looks much, much nicer now.
Planned updates:
- Sound. I'm thinking either the low "whirring" noise the cylons make as they scan, or the brief piano music that plays during the first intro to the episodes (not the opening credits.) Thoughts? Does anyone even want sound in their bootscreen?
- Add more frames to smooth the animation out (right now it's about 12 FPS)
- Add a more enticing background picture, such as a Cylon head rather than the solid black.
As always, feedback is welcomed.
A picture would be nice.

I THINK you have to flash it like a ROM.
Please correct me if I'm wrong someone.
CONFIRMED: you flash it like a ROM (looks really cool!)

Getting rid of the first HERO screen is a bit more difficult. It requires you to remove the device's security/cid checks or something. There's a thread about how to do that in the "Hero Android Development" forum. It's stickied. As of now I'm pretty sure you need to make some custom serial/usb cable to do it, and I can't be bothered. If anyone knows a simpler way to change that first splash screen, I'd love to hear it.

You need to have a rooted phone and the patched recovery image installed. Boot into recovery mode by holding the Home button while you power up your phone, and select "upgrade via choose .zip" or whatever the option is. Exactly the same as flashing a new ROM, as Amdathlonuk said.
Thanks dude!

Hi,
Firstly, thanks for this craig0r, I've been looking for this ever since I got my phone, don't understand why they took it out, it's so cool.
Anyway, I'm hoping someone can help me get it working.
I've tried to flash both 0.7 and 0.8 but I get the following error each time:
installing update...
copying files...
E: Failure at line 3:
copy_dir PACKAGE:system SYSTEM:
Installation aborted.
I have root and I'm running BeHero 1.3.2.
I looked at the update and found that in:
cylon0.8_signed/system/media/bootscreen/boot_animation.xml
There's this line:
audio="/system/media/bootscreen/boot.mp3"
It's referring to an mp3 but the boot sound is wav, could this be the problem?
Cheers guys
Working flawlessly!
Running Android 1.5 - SenseHero1.6 ROM
Sounds will be awesome, no need for an ugly cylon tho!
EDIT: @Sparmian I believe its because Android 2.1 storage bootscreen in another directory. Correct me if I'm mistaken

That certainly could be a problem. Also, I've only tested this in Modaco roms, although I should think it would work on any cupcake system. I won't be porting it to eclair until we have an official Hero release from HTC. Not that it would be particularly difficult with our current "faked" eclair roms, but they aren't functional enough for me, so I can't be bothered.
As far as sounds go, at this point I will probably wait for the eclair release as well.
Aaaaahhh!
Thanks for the help guys. I didn't realize this was a cupcake only release - I'm running eclair. Doh!.
Anyone have any idea how I can get this to work on eclair?
Cheers.

Bootanimation problems?

Hi there, I was trying to create a few bootanimations but keep running into the same problem of choppy playback. I've been using a combination of avidemux to grab the .jpgs from video files then convert these to .png with irfanview.
Perhaps someone here can have a look at the attached file, thanks

I've noticed that since the Froyo based releases the phone now boots quicker to the point that the 'Faster' part of the animation doesn't get a chance to kick in. Flashing a rom/nandroid backup seems to make the boot long enough to display the full animation.

[Q] Custom Boot Animation - Droid

Hello, Im new here to the community and I am (of course) loving my rooted, ROM'd Droid. I have been trying custom boot animations, which is quite easy to do. My problem is, I found a ''basic'' bootanimation (here in the Eris section), and decided that I should try to customize it (as it was only text on the boot animation). I edited each .png file, saved, rezipped, and flashed. Now all I get is a black screen before boot.
I tried to change the size (in the desc.txt) but that didnt work either. I was hoping someone could look at it and let me know where I have went wrong. Like I said, all I did was add/move words on the .pngs.
I am including the original boot animation: 'YearoftheDroid.zip' and then the one I edited: 'bootanimation.zip'. Any help would be greatly apprectated, as I want to get rid of the Motorola Logo also.
Thanks for all of your help and this community! (I hope Im asking in the right place)
Oh yeah, the original YearoftheDroid.zip boot animations works fine on my Droid before I edit it.
(Also, is there a program for me to test boot animations on my pc before I try it on the Droid? I did see one post with it, but it was sent via pm, so I could not find a download link.)
The file sizes are way off, is this why? Also, why would the file size change so dramtically if all I am doing is moving text and adding the 'DROID' logo? (I would think that my edited one would be bigger).
Thanks Again!

[Q] Adding Sound to Boot Animation ?

Hi. I was just wondering if there is a way to add custom sound to bootanimation on CM12 Roms, or any other ROMS for that matter. Please let me know if there is a way.
If I remember the CyanogenMod sound at boot or shutdown lost support because most people never wanted it.
no boot sounds on the nexis 6
Thanks for letting me know.

Tried a substratum boot animation from the domination app. But nothing happened as far as I saw. Same lg image followed by Verizon animation. Hadn't used a oms substratum boot image so I could have done something wrong. But I was pretty sure it was select and ..reboot lol.
I've been using an app from the play store called Boot Animations for Superuser on my H932 running the Dirty Unicorns Pie ROM and it works fine.

Yes that's the one with the reviews I was referring. Only review for my device in review option is a 1 star about having to get a new device after lol. Sheesh
I'm on VS996 stock rom btw
Also its possibile to delete bootloading on/off animation ZIP file from media folder to get a stock android animation ( i do it on any roms also on stock LG rom)
Well for Bootanimations all you have to do is scour XDA for Bootanimations with the same display size in mind and manually replace them with a Root/File Manager.

@runningnak3d has answered this before, and I always mess up repeating what he said -- but it's basically you can brick your phone if you don't know exactly what/where you are replacing. On North America V30, people have gotten rid of the annoying unlocked bootloader animation (which is really just a "picture" -- so it's a boot logo) by REPLACING the entire partition with Verizon VS996 "Resources" and Resources_bak" -- which gives you a few seconds of black. But to actually flash a NEW boot logo (something of your own choice) is entirely different and harder.
And @runningnak3d can clarify/correct anything I just said.
Ah, found it:

If you want to figure out the format of the raw_resources partition, that is where all the images are stored. It is possible to change them, but if you mess up, then your phone is a brick since abl will not load -- which is why the risk just wasn't worth it for me.
They are RLE so they have no header. There is an index that gives the name and offset for the location of the image, but not the size (either they are all the same size, or the size is stored somewhere else).

On the VS996 flash zip I no longer have the bootloader warning splash but I do still have the v30 boot logo instead of the v30+. Kinda like to have the v30+ one from the US998U/LS998.
As far as the animations go the Verizon has a boot animation (2part) bootanimation_decrypting (2part) and shutdown animation all in the system/bin/media folder.
Just recently updated the G7 on the Verizon OTA 10f and now it uses the same decrypting animation at boot.
I'll check out that link, I don't have a burning desire for the boot logo but I backed up my boot animation and may do it the old fashioned adb way in recovery. If it goes well I may change the shutdown animation as well.

Wait so does this risk just pertain to the unlocked bootloader warning or for the power on and off animations as well? Cause before on my V20 all I had to do was basically replace the boot animation and shut down animation zips or rename them to .bak so they don't load at all. So as long as I don't mess with the one labeled decrypting then there shouldn't be a risk right?

I presume it pertains to attempting to edit the boot logo (boot splash image) as it is not just a static image file in the system subdirectories.

That review that you and I saw, just forget it. The person did something totally different.
I first tried that app on my LG V20 stock ROM. I then deleted boot animation zip and shut down boot animation zip.
My LG V20 was fine.
I then installed it on my LG V30 since I was comfortable at this point. It works fine. I backed up the Zips. Deleted the boot animation zips from root - system - media. Stock boot animation is very very plain.
So I used that app I linked. There is no shut down boot animation zip. Which semi sucks. I deleted it since I HATE the T-Mobile Logo.
That app is fine though.

I downloaded it and looked at the zip it created. It sets the right permissions and placed the animation in the right location. Easy enough to take that zip and swap in a shutdown animation file and rename the permission setting line in the updater script to make one for shutdown animation. I was sitting here over breakfast thinking about swapping the two out on my device. Just for all that work I may as well just use the terminal in twrp and make the chmod changes myself.
And that bhootie site......sheeeeesh that's a lot of porn, and it's shutting down soon as well. I have no idea why ?

FYI, you don't need to set permissions if using
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.solidexplorer2
Just copy over the files and it will auto set permissions for you. No need to reboot in less you want to see how it looks of course.

One of the interesting things I found is that this phone boots so quickly. I ramped up the frame rate on my phone to decrease the start time. The Verizon boot animation is looong.
I was going to change the shutdown animation too to a different LG but I realized I was just trying to be different (modding addiction) and when I'm shutting the phone (which is never) I don't pay it any attention.
