[Q] Adding Sound to Boot Animation ? - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I was just wondering if there is a way to add custom sound to bootanimation on CM12 Roms, or any other ROMS for that matter. Please let me know if there is a way.

If I remember the CyanogenMod sound at boot or shutdown lost support because most people never wanted it.

no boot sounds on the nexis 6

Thanks for letting me know.

You could try this old tutorial

that old 5 year old tutorial is for a much older version of android that allowed boot sounds. our nexus doesnt allow boot sounds no matter what you do to it.

This may be way wrong, and im not saying anyone else is, but doesnt the AT&T version have the obnoxious boot sound during the boot animation? I just thought i remember that being a complaint.

There's a tool called ez splash flasher or something, in the mytouch 4g forums iirc, but you need a 480*800 picture
Or there are some that you can just download and flash using pg32img method in themes and apps

Check this out.
http://forums.androidcentral.com/htc-evo-4g-rooting-roms-hacks/65606-how-creating-custom-hboot-flashable-splash-screens.html
Basically you need a tool to convert an image (BMP) into a specific format (NBIMG) which can be loaded by fastboot to flash into your phone.
You should update your radio too, while you're at it.

The hboot is fine, but I have read reports of users having voice issues on the old Canadian radios.

[Q] Stock rooted 5.1?

I may have missed something but nothing has come up in my searches. Do we have a stock rooted 5.1 ROM yet? I know the guys building AOSP are having difficulty with voice calling (have to turn on speaker to hear anything). If this is in the wrong place, feel free to move or delete. I was just curious about this.
Yes it is the right place to ask.
This looks like it may be what you're after, but the OP is a little light on details.

Yeah I guess that's technically what I was looking for, although I dont know why he would bother posting it being so undeveloped. It even overwrites recovery. :s

I'm not sure if it does or not to be honest. He said initially it did, but he was going to remove that. Though the rewriting of recovery is achieved using the install-recovery.sh script included in the rom. FYI SuperSU hijacks this file and changes it so if you flashed SuperSU right after before boot, it shouldnt be able to replace recovery.
Edit> V 1.5 doesn't replace recovery.

hmm interesting. Guess I should wait til I get off work just in case something doesn't turn out right. Don't want to be stuck at work without a cell phone, right?

Long boot up time

I've noticed my phone takes for ever to boot up and on three occasions the phone never boot past what I guess would be the boot animation screen where the color dots move around. Just wondering if anyone has ever had this issue and maybe knows what is causing this and a fix if there is one?
The phone's boot loader is unlocked and stock rooted with Xposed framework.
Thanks.

if your phone is still encrypted, it takes longer to boot up. if its decrypted, it boots faster.

Hi guys, is it possible to remove the google logo when booting up the phone !?

as the title suggests, can we remove that google logo permanently ?
i have rooted it day one, and have flashed a custom ROM on it now, and when i reboot the phone it always pops up before the actual bootanimation, i am new to this phone and any help regarding this would be appreciated, thank you
Well it can be in two places, first is the bootloader, and nobody messes with the bootloader. Another place could be the HW itself, e.g. the GPU, which displays it while the CPU boots. Then you'd need a soldering iron.
So my guess is not.
It's like the Samsung Note text that's on while booting the phone.
It usually is part of the bootloader indeed. On the Nexus 5, they managed to find a way to inject custom images into the bootloader.img to change the logo and even the look of the menus, but I haven't seen anything like that on teh Nexus 6 yet.
Though, it's the best way of producing paperweights, when people play with flashing modified bootloaders. Usually there's no second chance to fix a flub.

Wishing Yes. Thinking No.
well thanks guys, one more thing that confuses me with the nexus 6 is the encryption thing,
what exactly is that? is it similar to the knox thing on Samsung devices ? and what if you remove it ?

Well, there is a tool for the Nexius 5 (https://github.com/NVISO-BE/nexus_5_bootloader_unpacker/), and it's very possible that it can be updated to work with the Nexus 6, but it would surely take a couple of Nexus 6 shaped bricks.

It"s like the windows and linux drive encrpyting, use must use a password to unlock it. In case of the Nexus 6, force encrypt is storing the password on a hidden partition, and uses it to crypt/decript every access. And since it's done in software, all user-data access is 4-5 times slower than if unencrypted. That's why a lot of people disable the encryption, since if your phone is not full of nekkid picturest, who cares if somebody hacks it, and steals it.

Why did I notice so less difference when I was unencrypted?

try this, at your own risk of course: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/themes-apps/tool-change-splash-screen-various-t3000218
Technically the fastboot command fastboot flash logo <name of file> will change the boot logo. The file you need to flash needs to be the correct resolution and a .bin file, afaik. Of course there is more than just google logo going on there, there are charging animations among other things that will likely get overwritten if you just flash a simple logo, that's why you need to tool I linked to modify the existing logo file.

These were synthetic benchmarks that measured it. You could only notice writes to user-data taking longer if you are saving gigabytes. Normal size pictures and videos are not big enough to sense the difference. Maybe in some 3D games there's a speed-up, but if you only read/write megabytes, you won't notice it.
Some people just can't know how to Google huh

It's legit. Just use the tool I linked in post #9. I used microsoft paint to edit the images. In this case I modified the white Google logo itself but you could simply replace it with an image of your choosing. It just needs to be in .png format.

unrootable (prototype N6)

hey everyone just picked up a prototype N6 from a buddy and having serious issues rooting this verion. i have rooted my other N6 with no issues but this build (shamu-userdebug l lrw80j 1454210 dev-keys) just wont seem to work if anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great ty. this version included a power button on the back of the phone which was nice and why it caught my eye.
What have you tried and where does it fail?
Root is usually unlock bootloader, flash recovery, flash supersu from recovery.
The problem you may have if the hardware is different is that the kernel would then be different, meaning there wont be a version of TWRP with a bootable kernel for your device. So just like you cannot run TWRP for a HTC on the Nexus 6, that could be the same case.
oh ok i see what you mean. everytime it gets to the try to temp load twrp it never seems to boot up im using the toolkit .and now it seems that i can't even boot into the system anymore just into fast boot but i can still use the flash boot flash options in root tool kit and i think you are so right about the kernel but just dont know which one to use i tried restoring /baseband /boot/system with a orignal factory 6.0 but individually but not working . is there a different method you think i can try? ty for your help.

If you're going to root, recovery is important.
There are apps that can root once booted into android, but you're playing with fire, especially if there hardware is different - as that means you will not have a factory image to flash either. These things are best kept untouched.
Great and I just messed up this systems IMG. cause I'm just stuck at the fastboot now I hope there is away around this. I had a feeling I shouldn't have gotten this version but wanted to be different now it just cost me smfh. Here are the pics of the phone and info

I cant think of a way around it. You could try flashing a stock system.img via fastboot but I cant say I'm hopeful and likely will make things worse. Without custom recovery, it is unlikely that you can repair it.
You can of course try and factory reset it. Who knows, may make it boot?
Yea flashing the system. IMG in fastboot made it worst well I used the new android m system so maybe that's why. Not looking good I hope I can get some answers soon or if maybe someone can mod a system. IMG I can use with this hardware .

It does, but it definitely does have an engineering bootloader and says shamu XT1103, so it's another one of "those"

yup. i bet it was the moto x pro, but in development still. they probably used all the shamu software on it at first. im curious whether it would take the moto x pro software.
I'm going to try to flash a stock N6 ROM to see if it will load.
Is this prototype the one with fingerprints sensor on the back?
It has a power button on the back.
