well i can only say that i have had no problems at all,no freezing, locking,i take my phone to work so it gets cold,,,strange

Sounds like you got a dodgy one then. Not had any of those issues at all. More than happy with mine.
Don't get me wrong, it's not perfect. No phone is, and HTC's do have their little quirks what with Sense and everything. But this is a very good phone. not the most popular cos of it's size, and it's only a single core (albeit a stonking great one) as opposed to a dual core, but it's a very capable phone. So glad i upgraded from my Desire to this.
Got it 2 days after release, and never looked back.

Brilliant phone had gs2, sensation, iPhone 4s but kept sensation xl. Obviously could do with better camera, dual core and sd card slot nevertheless it's fast and responsive.
The only other phone I would consider in the market at that moment is nexus galaxy for different reasons ics, screen resolution, dual core. I would advise comapare the two before purchasing.

I LIKE SENSATION xl design getting mine tommorow. yuppiieee...
thanks for all answers.

Good move mate go for XL just got nexus galaxy, dissatisfied. Too many bugs, freezes crashes, poor camera. Poor quality, screen resolution OK nothing to be excited about.

Is galaxy S still worth buying?

I want to buy a phone with SuperAMOLED display. I cant afford galaxy S2 and SuperAMOLED nexus S is not available in my country. So that leaves only the galaxy S.
Now I really dont want to root and all that, I just want a good "stock" experience. I dont care about having the highest benchmark score but I do want the user interface and games to run reasonably smooth in comparison to phones like the nexus S and xperia arc.
I have heard galaxy S is very slow if you dont change the memory system that the phone uses? Is stock gingerbread slow as well?
To a user like me would you rather suggest a nexus S and compromise on LCD?
Get a galaxy s, use stock jvt and custom kernel for reliability and speed. Best of all worlds you can also use a theme to make it look better
Sent using TCP/IP
I also think that it's still a good choice, you can get it fairly cheap especially as used device from people that are upgrading to the newer device generation.
The AMOLED screen is awesome! I never want a LCD anymore.
But you're right, the stock firmwares are not the best from a speed perspective. A custom Kernel with a lag fix or Cyanogenmod will increase the speed a lot.
But that shouldn't be a show stopper, as you will get all necessary howto's here on XDA devs.
I just purchased SGS too recently, and here are some of the reasons
- 4.0 inches display, although it is common, but it is better than having a 3.5 inches or less screen
- the GPU at SGS is really really rocking! so supporting ICS isnt really a problem
- Super Amoled Display, which phone can be as cheap as SGS and get it? same goes to Gorilla Glass Display on it, so no protective screen is needed ( at least I am not using it)
- Processor? hhmm... sounds normal, but you gotta love Hummingbird than Snapdragon or else
- front camera, some other phone which has the par price with sgs mostly dont have this, do not underrate front camera, they are useful
edit: u gotta love Super Amoled screen, especially under bright sun!
Nexus S SuperClear LCD version is actually a little cheaper than galaxy S. But it's just that it's not superAMOLED.
It will soon get native ICS which is really the biggest thing in it's favour.
Can someone explain something to me. I have heard the memory system of the galaxy S can slow it down "over time"? What does it mean? It will run smoothly for a few days but then gets slower? Am I over thinking about the memory system and it's not actually that bad? Are there other reputable phones which use it as well?
Sorry for all the questions.
I'm running on a custom ROM (MintBerry MIUI) with Thunderbolt script tweaks and I rarely turn off or even reboot my phone. I haven't noticed any slowdowns after long usage.
I bought used galaxy s from a guy at work because he wanted iphone so it would work better with his mac. And i must say i've been pretty pleased. I used it without any modification several months until i needed more power to get a flash game running and started to overclock it etc..
But even without any rooting and modding its pretty decent phone for "normal" use and right now i might buy it instead of s2 if i had too little money. For now i am temped to buy s2 but with modding to my galaxy s is so good i can skip s2 and buy s3 when it comes out, if there is not a better phone coming
Thanks everyone. So seems like stock unrooted galaxy S gingerbread still runs pretty good and things only improve once I am ready to root and all.
Will be buying galaxy S, SuperAMOLED FTW.
The Galaxy S is not slow at all if you run it on froyo 2.2.1. But on Gingerbread roms, there will be some microlags
Update it to stock firmware called "JVT". This version is rock stable, incredible gaming performance, modem has no signal issues etc.
I am using it, however I am using a kernel and a script, both of which were very easy to install took less than 5 mins and this is the best phone I have used yet.
Only thing i complain about galaxy s is that its slow on browser flash games and without modding and overclocking they don't usually work at all. But then again s2 it works but is laggy. Flash is old and bad and very heavy so no wonder. But without that need of flash i would not much consider of changing to any other phone from galaxy s if i don't got extra money in my pocket.
oh and if you are really cheap a friend got one of those zte phones if i recall the name.. well anyway it had 3 letters and they are slow. Well rooting and modding them they are pretty decent phones to use so you could save some money doing that.
Im very pleased with my Galaxy, before i got this little baby i used to gargle at the top phones all the time.
But this bright charming little thing still got everything i need! Its fast, screen is great, lots of custom roms (including ICS). Battery is good enough if you calibrate iy

I first had the phone complete stock for a month or two, I'd say it was pretty fast, and I believe it actually never crashed. But then I became to tempted with al the root stuff, and things like voodoo sound. At first I didn't understand at all what a kernel and all that does, and completely panicked when the phone got a bootloop after I flashed something. Ofcourse, after some time you understand what it all means and that sgs is actually really, really very hard to brick. Now I'm try new kernels or Roms every now and then, but I'm really good with my setup now. All that modding and flashing makes the phone faster, but you just gotta need something to understand it.

Worthy Successor for sgs+?

Hey all
I'm looking for a replacement for my phone as I'm frustrated by it. I have done some research and the phones which I'm leaning towards are the Nexus 4, Optimus G & Droid DNA. (I don't live in the States but I'm going there on holiday now, so I think the DNA is out unless an international variant is coming out soon) I have a maximum budget of $500.
Thanks I really appreciate your advice.

Those are great devices.
I would add SGS3 also to the list.
Galaxy Nexus is good too.
SGS2,for example, is still good choice if you want cheaper.
You need to ask yourself some questions like : What will the new phone allow me to do that I can't do now? Will I play graphic intense games that require quad core?
I asked myself these questions and more after every new phone that was released after the origonal SGSI. I didn't upgrade until the Note 2 came out. There was no need as far as I was concerned. My passion is photo and photo retouching!
What do you do most with your phone? It may be worth saving up for something you won't be disappointed with after two months.
Thanks for the replies
Well I manly use my phone for socializing, media and my main means of using the Internet. I occasionally play games and I'm very much a power user.
^^ I thought about the sgs3 and while it's not as powerful as the Optimus G it is significantly cheaper, but then it starts to fall in the Nexus' price range which gives more bang for the buck imho. As for the others I think the Nexus 4 also out performs them.

Why are u frustated, I love my SGS+, with SmoothieICS or SmoothieJB ROM it is fastest ever !!!
It just is so unreliable. It freezes everyday at least twice if not more and it so so laggy all the time Our phone also has extremely little dev support. I have run quite a few roms (Cranium back in the day, Moonrom, Ivendors and Acro's CM9.) and kernels (Cranium 2ghz, Vitality, Skyhigh and CastangaIT) on my phone heck I have even tried numerous scripts (Thunderbolt, Adrenaline, V6 and geeky engine (lol)) but still it always suffers from the above.
tl;dr I just want a working Android phone

Problems on XPeria Z ! Disapointed!!

Hi All
I've bought the Sony Xperia Z since now 2 days and I'm a little disapointed..
Ok the phone is beautiful, the screen too but there is really bad bad point for people who come from an Iphone 5. Everybody said that this phone is fluid and better than a Galaxy Tab but after 2 days of use , it seem that it's really not the case!!. Even with a good processor quad core , the speed is not even better than the galaxy Tab 2. Even my girlfriend who are on an Iphone 4S said that the Sony XZ is not fluid as the iphone and she knows nothing about phones.
When I'm unlocking my phone, I always have a lag between moving between desktop. After 1 days I've installed Nova Launcher, It was a little more fluid but not the best ! Sorry but when I see the caracteristics of the phone , it's a monster but with Android , it's slow ! SLOW SLOW!!
I'm the only one who see this??? Even with a monster phone Android don't work well! I'm even hesitate the add more than 2 widgets....
The Second point is the webbrowsing... It's horrible, I've try Firefox, Chrome and dolphin and really , it's not fluid at all, when you scrolling in web pages it's slow to show pages , pictures etc...
The Third point is the temperature... it grow to 38° when I use it for more than 20 mins....
So the Xperia Is a good phone but theses point disapoint me a lot.. I was thinking that with a monster last generation phone, it's going to be fluid and I see that's not the case..
Does somebody can help me maybe??

Just wait a few days for the 4.2.2 update and stop crying :silly:
maybe your device is defect?
i'm using the z for nearly 3 weeks now, haven't had a single problem.
phone is fast, ui is smooth and fluid, no lags. and i have plenty of widgets. temperature isn't hot.
compared it to a friends iphone 5 - no lags, not less fluid or smooth.
unlock bootloader, root, remove junk system file, use cook rom, custom kernel i think you will feel better
Wait for a stable CM10.1 build or 4.2.2
I also dont know what to do with the XZ. I have it for 3 days now, but i am a little dissapointed about the screen and the connectors are very annoying. Theres also a lot of dust. I think i will switch to Galaxy s 4 or htc one!

I had quite a bit of lag on mine also. I tried numerous Launchers until I found one that ran without hitch. Try Apex Launcher. Takes a while to set up and get right, but now mine is running absolutely smooth as silk. Ill try the stock launcher again once the new Android update hits. But agreed, out the box, the phone isnt smooth or quick to use at all.

i cannot see any of these problem in my phone
iPhone is for stupid people (girls/boys who don care of developing)
it s android if u have problem with this ROM u can root and change it
change kernel
change firmware
iPhone 5 is dual-core, 1.2 GHz, 1gm ram, 4inch (not hd!)
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Xperia Z is QUADcore, 1.5 GHz, 2GB RAM, 5inch, FULL HD
so it normal for temperature to increase But phone will work properly in high temp. :good:
(iphone users cannot imagine this )

+10, and much more customisable
The phone can lag a little in settings menu and with Sony launcher but aside from that it settles down once you've had it a while. I can't explain why.
I use dolphin browser as the stock browser and chrome are a little laggy. Dolphins not perfect but right now it's faster and has much less lag.
Non I'm root but I need to unlock bootloader to be able to install Custom Rom And I don't want to loose my warranty... XZ seems to have so much problems don't want to loose my money

Note 2 Stolen.. Should I buy THE ONE!

Here I am again guys..
My samsung NOTE 2 has been lately stolen .. And I am in the process of looking for a new phone that could be as pleasurable as the note 2.
My eyes have been set on the HTC one for some time now, but most of the reviews are making me shaky about that decision.. So what do you guys think? Should I go for it.. PROS & CONS? Camera, speed, etc?
Camera great, speed amazing. You might dislike the battery life coming from the note. Other then that, go for it.

Battery is actually better then on note 2 ...
As for camera take a look at photo thread many photos there , speed well lol ... If you ever used vanilla 4.3 sense 5 on 4.3 is even faster , it's pretty much faster even then s800 devices regarding the system speed , screen is miles ahead of anything currently available , speakers are out of this world and build quality / design is unmatched , gaming lasts about 4 / 4:30 of asphalt 8. Feel in the hand is awesome , updates are very fast this year , we have both sense and ge already on 4.3 a month ago so it's on par with n4 , the only thing you'll maybe mind is screen size since you're coming from note 2 , gaming is of course better on larger screen , tho performance of the one in games is way ahead of note 2.
And lastly if you care about flashing / development one pretty much has the best roms period , if you like customisation nothing on xda comes close to viper rom. It simply had everything you can think of and more. Dig thru some threads a bit , the best thing would be testing the device yourself in a store.

Its better because its faster, better camera, WAY better build quality, and I hate touchwiz. If you want a large phone, then I would wait for the One Max. Its supposed to come out on Oct 15 according to rumors.

exactly the things i wanted to hear! I think I am going for this phone .. and to be honest I was kind of getting bored with the huge note 2 screen! thank you for all the things you have said .. it really helped !
You have said it yourself this device is THE One
1. the performance is amazing ... it can handle whatever you throw at it no matter what and it handles multitasking with ease
2.the camera is amazing what ever you you do the photo comes out great
3. 32GB on board .. "i would prefer the 64GB " but its really big unless you shoot a lot of videos
4.the feel when you hold the device is uncomparable its amazing
5.the speakers are great ... i used to listen through headphones but now i only watch shows on them
6. the screen is great but when i applied a screen protector some of the visibility in the sun is gone
cons "before you buy"
1. check the camera for low light shots coz some of them produce pinkish effect
2 check the speakers for crack and pop at high volume

The phone is rubbish with stock Samsung OS and software! Slow often glitchy, long waits for simple stuff like switching between apps or even going back to the home screen.
BUT - with a custom ROM this phone is potentially AWESOME. Lag is gone, battery life much better. I make my girlfriend jealous and she has an iPhone 5S, lol.
Slightly bigger screen than iPhone, much lighter, more sturdy, expandable memory, FM tuner, and with a custom ROM loads more features and better interface.
Some ROMs are not available for this phone but a lot are: Many available from maclaw.pl, I've tried CM11 but found Carbon (latest unofficial KitKat) has a few more options and some nice optimisations to maximise battery life without sacrificing performance at all.

Hey, thank you, i think i will stay with it, and what can you tell me about games?, is good enough?, thanks bye
With stock, framerates go slow sometimes - since going custom no probs at all. Play a lot of Real Steel World Robot Boxing, a 3D effects-heavy game, runs without a hitch. Screen quality good, graphics good.
I just got one yesterday as a replacement for my work phone. I was using an iPhone 4 on iOS 7. thdevicee mini is a about the same size, but I have the benefits of android, root, larger screen, and the Google kit Kat keyboard. compared to the outdated iPhone 4 it's a decent upgrade.
my personal line is a galaxy s4. the s3 mini doesn't compare, but given that the s4 is my primary device and the s3 mini is for work calls and email only it's pretty dang good.
its a good phone but we have only a few developers for custom roms

also we still dont have miui rom for example, wich almost every other phone already have one stable :/
custom ROM support, or lack thereof, doesn't make a phone good or bad...
if flashing ROMs is a priority, get a nexus as AOSP based ROMs on pretty much anything else sucks. any device with a Google Play Edition version and an unlocked boot loader will be a very close second.
I think the S3 Mini is a very nice phone but there are many other phones which has better performance and battery but they are not so cheap like the S3 Mini The Moto G is okay but the Gaming Performance is bad.. sry for my bad english
It's typical mid-range, with a decent custom ROM every day tasks are quick and the phone is very responsive. It'll gobble up casual games easily and some old intensive games but unsurprisingly you're not going to playing brand new high end games!
