[Q] Has ATT finally blocked Hotspot for Nexus One? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been using Hotspot on my rooted N1 flawlessly for years. However I recently noticed something weird going on. When my Hotspot was not working in the past it was because of network issues in my area. However, now I am noticing that the network is fine and I can browse fine on my phone, but when connecting my laptop to my phone using Hotspot I can not browse at all. I've done speedtest on the phone using speedtest.net mobile app and get great speeds and able to browse on my phone fine. Also It's not my laptop as I am able to browse fine when connected to any other wifi network. Anyone else experiencing issues with Hotspot?

XDA is no longer worth my time.

Yea I think I got throttled for being in top 5% and then some weirdness was going on in my area where my connection kept getting clogged and ATT had to reset my phone but it still seems to be working.

Mobile Hotspot issues - incredibly slow??

Anyone having this issue? My hotspot is brutally slow. Most of the pages don't even load and when I can get a speed test to run, its below 1mb. The phones speed is standard LTE speeds of 20mb around this area.
Is there even anything Verizon can do about this or is the phone messed up?
Thanks.
Is it the offiical Big Red Hotspot ? or are you rooted?
I get 26mbps download on the 4g through the phone, and 12mbps on the laptop when using hotspot. Everything seems to be working as intended, could be a problem with defects.

[Q] Anyone else having WiFi issues with their HTC One?

Hey guys,
So I just got my brand-spanking new HTC One today. I upgraded from the Evo LTE, and I already love it.
But there's one thing that has been really frustrating to me for the few hours I've owned this phone... It has major WiFi issues.
My One can see the WiFi network, can connect to it, but wont give an internet connection! It's so frustrating!
My Evo LTE, being connected to the same WiFi network, connects to the internet with no problem at all.
A temporary fix is to turn off the WiFi radio, then turn it back on. As a result, I would connect to the internet for a minute or so, then it would disconnect from the internet (it's still connected to my WiFi network, and it recognizes it, and it gives no messages about the connection suggesting that something is wrong with my router/connection).
I changed the frequency bands, but they all have the same issue. I have enabled "Best Wi-Fi performance" and "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep."
I've also reseted my router numerous times... No luck.
Is anyone else having this issue, or did I just get a lemon? Can anyone think of a possible solution?
Thanks!
no issues here with my one and my netgear r6300 ac router.
Wi-Fi has been fantastic for me on my one. My evo LTE if you remember had the issue of wi-fi just shutting off after the phone was asleep. That was fixed in an update but even after that was fixed my evoLTE would show it's connected but data would not work. So I would have to toggle it on & off. I also had an issue with my sense widget not working and getting stuck. I was really starting to dislike the evoLTE because of it since your notifications quit working if your wi-fi was not connected correctly. I put up with crappy wi-fi for almost a year, mainly because I knew if I took it into Sprint they would say everything works perfect I just didn't wanna deal with. I know it's extremely frustrating to not have your wi-fi work correctly. My advice see if you can get a hold of another HTC one to test side by side. If it's a hardware issue you should get it swapped. You could also try hard resetting. I use a a WRT54GL with tomato at home and a Asus N66U at work, both have performed awesome with my one.
I have _exactly_ the same issue with my One. I have no idea if it's a software or a hardware problem. Tried a hard reset just yet, but it didn't seem to make a difference.
Really frustrating indeed, since the One is not very good available in the Netherlands yet, so if I return it, I might have to wait a few weeks to get a new one. I've tried it with at least 6 completely different WiFi networks, but the problem occurs with every one of them.
Only issue I have had with the WiFi thus far is it doesn't seem to have the pickup up range compared to my other phones and tablets.
WiFi on mine is insanely crazy! Picks up signal way better than any other device I've ever owned. Might be the kernel I'm running. Try it out! Look in the original dev thread.

I've noticed this as well. Areas in my office where I could get a decent wifi signal with my 3D I am dropping wifi completely with the One.
Router brand/model? Firmware version? WEP/WPA/Open? 2.4Ghz, 5Ghz or dual band? Channel (more relevant on 2.4 than 5)?
Does your phone get a valid IP? Check on the phone itself then the router under DHCP (assuming normal configuration, IP should begin 192.168.*.*)
Can you ping any internal node (ie your router) or external node (ie google.com or the IP to google)?
If your router has WEP/WPA enabled, switch it to Open solely for testing the connection.

Had the exact same problem. Only thing that fixed it was switching my router encryption from WPA to WEP. Works like a charm now. Best of luck.

Same problem and my solution
I had the same problem. Finally I tried to reset the phone without putting all my google-account info back. Then the wifi works fine. After that a Added my google-account and can enjoy my new HTC one. The phone is really good!
Note that in this way I didn't get all my setting back from my google account (like access points), but at it is working!

[Q] Noob Having Issues With Internet

Hello,
I've had my Desire C for about a year now, but have only recently added a data feature to my (prepaid) plan. Up to this point I've only been able to afford a call/text plan. Anyways, I can now connect no-problem to the WiFi in our apt. I can check my email with the gmail app that was already on the phone. But if I attempt to browse the internet it will work for a minute or two before it hits a roadblock and gives me the "Webpage not available" screen. Same thing if I attempt to download app on Google Play. It seems to get to about 10%-20% then hangs. The WiFi is connected the entire time on the phone.
I have had no issues with our WiFi, whether it be on my PC or the gf's laptop or her iPhone5. But my Desire C is a different story.
Any suggestions?
edit:
I should probably note that I took the phone to work and tried the same while on my mobile network and had the exact same problem as I did on the WiFi.
further edit: After some more playing around I have found that my internet works fine for a minute or so after booting it up from shut-down. Then it craps out again.

Droid Turbo WiFi problems

Having issues with my WiFi. Been doing it for a week or so. Every few days and now since yesterday my WiFi will all together quit working. Says connected but I get no internet and can't access my gateway with it. I have Xfinity internet and all the other phones and laptops work fine on it. But my phone just straight won't work on the WiFi unless I hard reset my phone. Tried DNS settings and static IP address and all. Multiple reboots of both device and gateway. Can't seem to find anyone else having this issue. Any thoughts from anyone before I take it to Verizon?

Are you on the most recent update? The newest one fixes that problem.
I should be.

wifi sucks on this phone. I don't get the disconnects but it is very slow to load anything and everything. Pictures, web pages, whatever. Doesn't happen to the other 15 devices on my network. LTE works fine
When it connects I have no problems with speed. Despite being up to date with software I have to reset every few days for it to work here lately. I've even hard reset my AP and checked the firmware on it and everything else works fine before and after. Its just this phone. I finally got it working again after a reset last night so if it does it again I'm just going to Verizon with it. I'm no IT specialist but I know enough to try different things and still no remedy other than hard reset.

Believe it or not, I have this problem too. I'll be completely connected with nothing going wrong with my network, but I'll have no access to the internet. I'll go to my tablet or my roommate's phone and there will be no problems.
I'm still looking up other forums and Verizon as well to see what possibly could be up with it. If I find anything useful I'll let you know. It's pretty frustrating when I don't have unlimited data anymore like I had on Sprint. If I did I really wouldn't care to be honest, but Verizon's service has by far surpassed Sprint in Houston.

I've noticed that when my device sits idle for long periods, overnight for example, while connected to my home WiFi there doesn't appear to be any throughput. It seems to be connected in every other respect. Toggling WiFi off/on sorts it for me though. I know that I've read that this is a reported bug that is to be fixed, but naturally, I've been reading so much at so many different sites, that I can't for the life of me recall exactly which site it was. I'm guessing that you issues are somewhat different than mine?
Yeah. I can toggle or reboot or reset my AP all day when it does this and it will never fix it. I tried for 2 days of different fixes I've seen online but the only thing that gets it back is a hard reset.
Sent from my XT1254 using XDA Free mobile app
Might be a fluke but just got home and no WiFi like I expected. Did a hard reset on my AP with the reset button instead of through my laptop by logging into it. Forgot network on my phone. Rebooted it. Connected and it was fine. Pain in the ass if I have to do it every day but if it works it works.

I also recently started having this problem. Frequent disconnect / reconnect to Wifi with no data passing through. I had to shut off my mobile data because it was increasing my data usage at home.
I also noticed this problem too. It shows I have Wi-Fi connection but no internet or email access. When I disabled the WiFi, internet comes back. It's also xfinity Wi-Fi router. That's only place I have Wi-Fi issues.. No issues at home. Maybe it's compatibility issues with xfinity router?

I'm using an Netgear AC1750 router...No issues with Wifi at work.
I'm pretty convinced its the Xfinity access points. I don't have WiFi at work as I work in a shop, but the WiFi at my in-laws (Sudden Link) worked fine this weekend. I am now I'm having the same issue with my laptop all the sudden as well is why I am really thinking that it's their hardware and not mine. Never had this issue with AT&T when I had them. Had already switched to Comcast before I got the Turbo so I can't say with 100% certainty.

Sounds like it could be....if you have another Wifi router you could try it and disable the AP on the Xfinity modem. On my network, only the Droid Turbo has trouble with WiFi. I've got 7 other devices on there that all work fine.
Never set up an external router on it. I as well have 3 other phones, 2 other laptops and 2 tablets that all work fine with it. Xfinity just hates the turbo. Lol My laptop I think was a fluke as it hadn't been turned on in a few days. I just think it didn't want to refresh the settings until I released/renewed, then it was fine. I'll find out tonight when I get home anyways.

I also don't think its interference either. My father in law is an ex cop and radio operator. He has all sorts of repeaters and radios and all I haven't a clue about set up. If there was going to be any interference involved I'm pretty sure it would be there. Heh.

Yeah. Reading through some of that I never have hanging issues. Mine would just flat out not work at some points. Other than hard reset on the phone I have only found 1 way to fix it.
1. Forget WiFi network and shut off phone.
2. Hard reset my AP with reset button on back of it.
3. When AP is finished rebooting turn on phone and reconnect to WiFi.

I also have Comcast. No WiFi issues with my Nexus 6, or any other devices.
Hey there... I am actually a field technician for Comcast maybe I can help. What exactly are you having for issues... can you see the network, is it the default password with default network name??? Let me know and I can do what I can to help you. Also what device do you have an XB2 or an XB3 wireless gateway?
That's weird. At my mother's I also have some issues with the WiFi at times where I just won't get a connection. I keep having to turn the WiFi on the nexus on and off. Luckily the lte coverage in the area is top notch
Just yesterday subscribed to Comcast/xfinity, logged my Nexus 6 into it, got full strength signal showing on the phone, and HUGE latency-to-zero performance. This is the first and only time I've ever seen little to no WiFi performance, yet WITH a very strong signal. I wonder if this has something to do with xfinity WiFi and that business where they share your bandwidth with other members who are nearby and wanting to use WiFi?
My wife's iPhone works fine with it...
-Peter
I have this same issue with my Nexus 6. I can connect to the WiFi fine, but web connections never seem to complete. The progress bar in chrome gets to about 10% and just sticks there. Apps attempting to download data just time out.
I am running the latest stable released build of Marshmallow.
I do not have this issue on my n6 with xfinity internet. I do not use their leased modem/router so do not share the Internet but doubt that is the issue.
However, the WiFi is not always 100% stable (notice in clash of clans when a short disconnect is a big deal). I rarely get sporadic disconnects in that game but streaming video, etc. never causes an issue. I am using the latest Pure Nexus build lately and seems to have helped (maybe placebo).
Edit: I use that n6 like an iPod touch now (WiFi only) so I'd definitely notice but it works great.
