Hi all,
I have got a fritzbox 7390 and the note, but the connection is not so well.
The range is very short but only with the Note.
My macbook and notebook got better signals, thats ok, but even the HTC Desire HD got a better one..
Any Ideas what can i do?
the note antenna isnt the ebst, compared to my hd2 running a miui rom it doesnt get as good a signal on the wifi, hd2 picks connects at 75Mb whilst my note conencts at 65Mb
can i improve the signal by using a costum rom or an app?
Best thing you can do is:
-Find best radio to flash
-Put router higher up and/or get repeater
-Tune to best channel if neighbours nearby using Wifi Analyzer from Market

I don't think so because this is a hardware problem basically (smartphone antenna / Router etc.)
Try another location for your router if possible and/or adjust its antennas.
Internet Service Provider (ISP) Tweaks: The AUTO-functions for the channel choice works perfect for me - on the other hand it could be the right thing for your enviroment to change this value for a fixed channel. Just jam a little bit with the hardware based options.
Best regards

ty,
I don't think that's a router problem, its working with a HTC desire hd and MacBook and notebook, only the note got a bad singal.
no one else got this problem?
which ROM should I flash and will it be better with ics

Can anyone confirm that their Galaxy Tab can connect to wifi on the 5.8 GHz range?
I'm trying to pair it to an N-only router that is using WPA2 with AES on the 5 GHz range, channel width set to 40, and it doesn't seem able to even see the network.
Make your router have a channel 12 or lower. The tab is b or g compatable.

Ahhh no. I connect to my wifi n 5.8 signal all the time. It does take longer to show in the wifi settings field as it scans for g networks first.
I use a linksys e3000 with g on my 2.4 channel and n on my 5.8 channel. Tab connets to n all the time.

Okay, I got this one figured out. It turns out my Tab won't connect to 5GHz channels 149 and 157 from my router.
It turns out that 149 and 157 are allowed in the US, but not in Europe according to this article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels
When I flashed my modem to JPZ to enable calls on my AT&T tab, did that also affect my Wifi? If so, is there a way to enable calls and still support all US 5 GHz channels?
I can make/receive calls when I am at home on wifi. Jk3 modem here.

You were stating bogus info saying the tab only does b and g when right on the box it states wifi n. I then gave a description of my setup for reference. Not being smarter just truthful. Oh, and i didnt even ask a question so your reply makes no sense. Stop being a jackass on the internet just because you got corrected about something.

I use JPZ modem and the latest Dip7 rom and i can make and receive calls while my wifi is on and connected on wifi n 5.8. My width is 40 and my channel is on auto. You mentioned something about europe being different, maybe the router you have doesnt broadcast out at the settings you are trying?
Hope this helps you.

Your box is smarter than my box, because my box doesn't give any info like that. You are smarter than the at&t website and Samsung's too, because they only claim wifi connectivity. You are smarter than everyone, but you could use an attitude adjustment, because a solution different than one that a god like you has doesn't make it wrong. I am in Canada and have had lousy GPS performance from the start. I flashed JVR with KG3 (Bell) modem and CSC. GPS works great.
I have tried different ROMs from stock to far from stock and different ROMs act differently on GPS performance.

Sorry to say but IMHO i9000 GPS is bad. You can make some settings mods to get faster fix but that's all. It is somehow working when you have good sats view (it reports good signal with fix from enough number of sats) but when for ex. driving trough inferior sat signal area (streets surrounded by tall buildings, etc.) you are out of luck. Fix position goes to hell.
I've experimented with my old wm phone, i780. It has not so good Qualcom GPS One chipset and I managed to send it's fix using BT to i9000. Guess what? It was ok! Sat fix was reported in i9000 as a poor accuracy but in fact it was ok and stable while using it with maps applications. Go figure! Old, bad i780 GPS shows better then "I can see more satellites with stronger signal and I have better accuracy" i9000 build in GPS.
After this test I connected external BT GPS on MTK chipset. I have to wait ~30 second for fix but after that I have no nasty surprises driving my car through "canyon" streets.
Its got nothing to do with the ROMs. I9000 is well known for its ****ty GPS.

Would you share with us, where you got this wisdom from?
My SGS works perfectly well regarding GPS performance for more than 6 months now not depending on my current location: US west coast and Hawaii it worked great as well as in Italy and various parts of Germany. Fix is usually the within seconds (presuming free sight to the sky). Also the android version had no influence: I started with stock 2.2, upgrading to various 2.2.1, 2.3.3, 2.3.4 and now 2.3.5 (also with different custom kernels).
Where and when did you having GPS problems get your SGS? Maybe there is batch with faulty soldered GPS antennas. However, I don't see a reason why the SGS should have a bad GPS performance in general.
So I just got my Note (stock ROM, Poland origin) a few days ago and I can't see my 5GHz 802.11n wireless signal. What do I need to do to get it to show up?
i think you have to determine what country of origin your note is from and set the channels on your router to be compatible with the firmware on your phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1479839
I had the same problem. Changed the channels on my wireless router and now it sees it and connects great.

Plz mention this in the topic you started today
Hello!
Do you have problems during streaming Youtube videos?
Do you notice a very slow connection with your Nexus 4?
Do you notice that your other clients (like notebook, other smarthones, pc, etc etc) are connecting very well with the same router's settings?
Good, the problems are not inside the router's settings. The real issue is neither into the Nexus 4's Qualcomm WiFi adapter.
The issue is only in a configuration file named WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini.
You have only to flash the zip file through recovery.
If you don't notice the difference, if this zip file is not helping you, please write here and you can always flash the stock/default settings.
Let me know the result! With my settings I solved my issues!

kalo86

Yea, changes you made would be nice.
Does this also (finally) fix the inglorious "no Push Notification while screen is off"-Bug?
People I made a simple thing: I extracted the WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini from an official LG Optimus G Rom (a device which shares the same hardware of our Nexus 4) and this file seems to work fine.
I did not test if this workaround fixes the missing notifications bug when the screen is off.
Battery life will drop like a rock with this. It won't let your phone sleep while you're on WiFi. Actually knew of this before but the battery life... Stopped using this when Prima Drivers were released but this is a GREAT workaround if you don't want the ARP issues caused by Prima Drivers. Another option is to set your router's beacon scanning to 10ms or less

Maybe I was not so clear.
I did NOT edited
from "gEnableBmps=1"
to "gEnableBmps=0"
but I simply adopted another ini file which is going very good and the battery life is the same like the stock ini file.

You should then remove that part from the Original Post. It confuses people. Not here to attack your thread or anything. I just misunderstood stuff

Anyway I am getting the same performance of my notebook connected at the same wifi network.
Now I can watch videos without problems
This actually improved my wifi. Thanks!
Sadly, fell into a bootloop spiral after flashing this..
I hope it's my fault ( my phone's configuration fault)
Can someone else give feedback?
Thanks anyway!!
EDIT: Tried this a second time and all went well.
I'll send feedback later on.
Thank you!
Flashed fine here. Will update with battery life and Wi-Fi performance.

Will test this against the Prima Drivers. Comparing stock settings and this, I see that the code should theoretically work well
With one user going into a bootloop may I suggest that you post the rom you are on as well. This will also help narrow down any issues. Now for the guy who had an issue were you on a cm based rom or aosp?

My normal was always slower than on my laptop. I was getting 8-9 mb/sec and now I get 11-12. We'll see if battery life stays relatively the same.

You know, when I was reading original post, I felt like its sort of the advertisements that come on TV ( like are you fat? do you want to decrease your fat? are you facing hairfall problem?) Dont take it seriously! Just told what I got in mind
BTW I flashed this, and no bootloops for me atleast, I am running PA latest alpha with Franco R143 :highfive:
Ill post the results after testing for some hours!
Thanks for this!
Hi guys,
Maybe I have to explain better why I advice to flash the zip file.
In my house I have a DSL line @ 10Mbit/s but I cannot reach 4Mbit/s with my Nexus 4.
In the contrary my Galaxy Nexus and other 3 laptops reach the limit of my DSL wifi network.
I was getting very bad when I wanted to watch a video from Youtube with my Nexus and I only see a waiting/loading animation... This is bad.
For this reason I noticed that editing the config file something changed and so I adopted the LG Optimus G ini file, a smartphone which shares the same hardware of the Google Nexus 4.
I am using an AOSP based ROM (compiled from a pure source code by me) and with the stock kernel.
Wifi appears to be fixed and finally the wifi speed reach the DSL band limit.
This workaround solved my problem with my DSL router but it is not a rule that my fix will solve the world.
Battery life is really great, over 4h 30min screen and surfing on internet with wifi radio on for about 2 hours.
Again: my problem seems to be fixed.
Hello everyone. im really frustrated with Xperia SP wifi. anyone have any working wifi solution which really works ? Don't why SP's wifi is so horrible even my N900 is much better than it.
edit: My phone's wifi is working now as usual. Previously it was not receiving any data nor sending until i gave my router a reboot. but other devices connected to same router were working fine. don't know what was the cause of it. but wifi single issue is still bugging me.

i also had this probs.. but the good things is it only software related not hardware... (trust me on this)
i found out those dbm connectivity hack (change it from -87 to -100) work well but its not good enough
the only permanent solution is to flash to custom ROM (maybe sony have wifi kernel prob)
now using dirty unicorn.. i have more range (+1 more bar) and lesser connection loss
