Hello!
Do you have problems during streaming Youtube videos?
Do you notice a very slow connection with your Nexus 4?
Do you notice that your other clients (like notebook, other smarthones, pc, etc etc) are connecting very well with the same router's settings?
Good, the problems are not inside the router's settings. The real issue is neither into the Nexus 4's Qualcomm WiFi adapter.
The issue is only in a configuration file named WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini.
You have only to flash the zip file through recovery.
If you don't notice the difference, if this zip file is not helping you, please write here and you can always flash the stock/default settings.
Let me know the result! With my settings I solved my issues!
Regards,
kalo86

Yea, changes you made would be nice.
Does this also (finally) fix the inglorious "no Push Notification while screen is off"-Bug?
People I made a simple thing: I extracted the WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini from an official LG Optimus G Rom (a device which shares the same hardware of our Nexus 4) and this file seems to work fine.
I did not test if this workaround fixes the missing notifications bug when the screen is off.
Battery life will drop like a rock with this. It won't let your phone sleep while you're on WiFi. Actually knew of this before but the battery life... Stopped using this when Prima Drivers were released but this is a GREAT workaround if you don't want the ARP issues caused by Prima Drivers. Another option is to set your router's beacon scanning to 10ms or less

Maybe I was not so clear.
I did NOT edited
from "gEnableBmps=1"
to "gEnableBmps=0"
but I simply adopted another ini file which is going very good and the battery life is the same like the stock ini file.

You should then remove that part from the Original Post. It confuses people. Not here to attack your thread or anything. I just misunderstood stuff

Anyway I am getting the same performance of my notebook connected at the same wifi network.
Now I can watch videos without problems
This actually improved my wifi. Thanks!
Sadly, fell into a bootloop spiral after flashing this..
I hope it's my fault ( my phone's configuration fault)
Can someone else give feedback?
Thanks anyway!!
EDIT: Tried this a second time and all went well.
I'll send feedback later on.
Thank you!
Flashed fine here. Will update with battery life and Wi-Fi performance.

Will test this against the Prima Drivers. Comparing stock settings and this, I see that the code should theoretically work well
With one user going into a bootloop may I suggest that you post the rom you are on as well. This will also help narrow down any issues. Now for the guy who had an issue were you on a cm based rom or aosp?

My normal was always slower than on my laptop. I was getting 8-9 mb/sec and now I get 11-12. We'll see if battery life stays relatively the same.

You know, when I was reading original post, I felt like its sort of the advertisements that come on TV ( like are you fat? do you want to decrease your fat? are you facing hairfall problem?) Dont take it seriously! Just told what I got in mind
BTW I flashed this, and no bootloops for me atleast, I am running PA latest alpha with Franco R143 :highfive:
Ill post the results after testing for some hours!
Thanks for this!
Hi guys,
Maybe I have to explain better why I advice to flash the zip file.
In my house I have a DSL line @ 10Mbit/s but I cannot reach 4Mbit/s with my Nexus 4.
In the contrary my Galaxy Nexus and other 3 laptops reach the limit of my DSL wifi network.
I was getting very bad when I wanted to watch a video from Youtube with my Nexus and I only see a waiting/loading animation... This is bad.
For this reason I noticed that editing the config file something changed and so I adopted the LG Optimus G ini file, a smartphone which shares the same hardware of the Google Nexus 4.
I am using an AOSP based ROM (compiled from a pure source code by me) and with the stock kernel.
Wifi appears to be fixed and finally the wifi speed reach the DSL band limit.
This workaround solved my problem with my DSL router but it is not a rule that my fix will solve the world.
Battery life is really great, over 4h 30min screen and surfing on internet with wifi radio on for about 2 hours.
Again: my problem seems to be fixed.

Latest Cyanogenmod nightly number 97 (10/3/2010) has the new ril baked in. No need to use this patch if you are running it or a newer one.
Back Story
Long story short, the Chinese group Miui mananged to get / build (not really sure) a new Radio Interface Layer for our HTC devices... I pulled this file out of the Nexus one build that they released and it works perfectly. Link to the Nexus1 version
Over in the Nexus one forum a few people have questioned where this Chinese group got some of the files they're using, as they're really bleeding edge (at least thats what they say in the N1 forum). This newer / different RIL file seems to fix the issues we're facing with random phantom reboots while wifi is on. Also included in this is the issue where the signal bars show an "x" for a second or two after connecting to a wifi hotspot. Also fixed are issues where the radio signal drops before / after receiving a call that plagues AOSP builds (ruby and CM for sure).
Cyanogenmod 6.xx
This works on the 6.xx versions as well as the Nightlies.
NOTICE: As of Oct 2nd this has been "committed" so I assume the nightly that comes out this evening will have the fix built in. Check it out
Latest nightly number 97 has the new ril baked in. No need to use this patch.
Ruby 1.1.1
This works for Ruby. If you are wanting the BT Media Streaming audio fix as well, please see this thread. They are two separate installs.
Shadowrom
It has been confirmed that this also works for Shadowrom.
Bugs
I honestly don't know of any yet... but that doesn't mean there aren't any. Only a handful of us have been testing this thing out on the inc so far. Figured more people might want to check it out.
Credit
I take no credit for the fix. The Miui group built/got it(not sure which), I simply happened to be playing around with some files and noticed the side effects. Thanks again to Jermaine for letting me know more about the rom (and the fact that they weren't plagued by our reboot issues) in the first place so I could start digging...
Of course thanks go out to the entire ruby and cyanogenmod teams, without them we wouldn't have these fun roms. Lastly, IncredibleDoes for doing the Inc port of miui that opened our eyes to it.
Installation
- Download the file and place it on your SD card.
- Load up Rom Manager and hit "Install rom from SD card," select the file.
- I'd probably make a nandroid backup if you haven't recently just in case... no wipe has been needed.
Disclaimer
If this messes up your phone, not my fault Was tested by about 30 people so far, and no issues that we've seen. Please make a nandoid backup just in case.
THIS IS FOR AOSP roms listed above ONLY. Please do NOT install it on any sense based roms.

Not that I can tell... so far the mere fact that the wifi isn't causing reboots anymore is the main reason I'm putting this out there...

I really dont believe its the wifi. Its when the 3g turns on or off when the issues happen, which is when you leave or enter a wifi area. I turned 3g off and didnt use it for 2 days with wifi on the whole time with no reboots. I've have the lockup with just 3g on as others have noted. Also I believe that the lockups and the reboots are a separate issue. I have yet to see where any dev said it was the wifi directly, and with the known issues of 3g+froyo it points to 3g not wifi.
So, if you turn wifi off and are in a good 3g area then you will unlikely lose 3g much if at all, but if you have signal issues then the reboots still exist.
If we are going to find out what the problem is we need to setup test groups.
1 - no wifi, no 3g
2 - no wifi, 3g on
3 - wifi on, no 3g
4 - wifi on, 3g on
Make sure everyone is using the same rom/radio.

That's a possibility, but I think I'm in a good 3G area, and the majority of my movements are in a pretty small geographic area. I'll get reboots when my phone is just sitting on a table or in my pocket though in an area w/ strong signal.

I think what we'd really need is for the testers to check all 4 combinations. There's too much geographic variance to have a bunch of different people testing these combinations unless some lived very close to each other.
For CM7 we had a thread with all the known major issues (and solutions) for the most recent roms.
CM7 now is almost perfect and pretty complete. CM9 is still in alpha though and (obviously) seems to have a lot of issues.
Can someone who flashes nightlies / kangs please give a short overview what doesn't work or what does cause problems? Also stability and power issues would be interesting.
Of course there are still problems with video hardware acceleration but what about other areas which are GPU relevant like browser, games or any app that isn't just a list really? What about the sound drivers, do they work in general? does listening to music while using other apps work that also output sound (for example music + navigation or podcast + navigation)?
I think this would be very helpful to a lot of people (me included of course )
Why didnt i think of that?
Silly me that reads this tiny thread... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347118
I didn't find anything useful via search which I didn't know from blogs / g+; as I didn't want to read up on as of now 1256 posts in that thread I had hoped someone could take 1 minute of his time and give a quick run-down.
I was hoping for a serious answer or a sarcastic one which took at least as long to write but would be really douchy. You just linked the thread so I'm not sure what to think lol
i use cm9 daily and i have not seen much problems. its smoother than any other rom i used, the battery holds much longer. whe listening to live streams it would not last longer than 6.5hours, yet on cm9 it holds for 9.5, i also dont need to charge every night or have the battery drained in the morning which was the worst thing and happend for me on all the other roms.
what does not work... let me see, the latest version of opera doesnt work. sometimes it takes a long time to get a data connection, but i think that is because my wifi switches on and off a lot. other than that i dont have any problem and i definitely wont go back to any gb rom.

Thanks a bunch dude! The improvement on the battery from stock to cm7 was awesome already, getting even more out of it would be great. I assume you are listening via 3g right? getting more than 6 hours is quite an achievement there.
I switch a lot back and forth between wlan / 3g though so I guess I have to wait a bit for that to be sorted out.

no im listening over wifi, but the battery usage reflects all over for me, usually i had to worry about my battery even on 2g, now i dont have any worrys, even on 3g it lasts longer than on 2g before.i guess its because it basicly uses 0 battery while not using it while on other roms it constantly drained as if i was using the device.

I've been using Nova HD for a week now and even though I was sceptical at the beginning, I'm really happy with it. It's fast, no random reboots yet, no force closes. The battery is not super, but is is ok: I think I can use it for a day with normal use. I'm not going back to CM7
Everytime i placed my hand on the back cover, it felt really hot. Is this normal ?
I'm currently running HoliRaidier 1.75 rom.
The phone does tend to heat up quite a bit, especially when running CPU intensive tasks.
You should use a task manager to monitor what apps are running, and terminate anything unnecessary.
Thanks - I'll try to do that.

Did you check to be sure the kernel you're using matches your ROM?
When you say 'data connection,' I'm guessing you mean mobile data connection and not wi-fi. If it is wi-fi with the problem, try re-copying the wi-fi module for your kernel over to /system/lib/modules
Yes - I do meant the 'mobile data'. When I used a custom rom, then I got the data just fine. However when I used the ATT based rom - It doesn't appear to get any connection. I don't know why, and if I would know how to set or change the custom APN would be helpful.

Edit: Yes I always flash the kernel before install new ROM from the same dev.
I have also realized that it does get hot, and with the new holliraider 1.7 i realized that the battery dies faster.

I am completely with u. With IR blaster in xuefer i wouldn't have changed to the Ashwins lineage, which is good too, and he did a respectfull super job, but battery is weaker, drains faster. However, i don't know what safety violation on GPL was meant to be....... In xuefers. Nevertheless i am the only Person with headphone Jack problems in lineage. I would go back to xuefers, if ir-Blaster is fixed. If battery in Ashwins gets better, and no headphone jack probs i would stay with Ashwins, cause of ir-Blaster, which has great function.

If Ashwin he can help us out that would be great news but i won't blame him if he don't a simple flashable .zip to flash in twrp would be great for the fixes.
Out standing issues
1) hspda+ 3g not showing when mobile data on
2) IR not working
3) Latest security updates
Found the fix for hspda+ 3g fix in the original thread.

admittedly, i havent tested the ashwin los yet. havent gotten around to setting up my phone completely anew, since i always prefer to do clean installs in order to avoid any potential issues.
then again, the only two reasons for switching would be the IR Blaster and updated security patches. So far, thats not yet enough for me to bother everything just works well at the moment, so lets see whats up in the near future...

Same here if was to go official i woul probly change but not at the moment the batterylife on Xuefers is just insane sleeps like a baby 0 drop over night.Besides Xuefer could decide to come back and then we would have some competition on our hands.
Anyone wish to increase battery life, sure check out root booster by Dominik on playstore. I have seen a huge improvement and I am using extreme mode battery boost. I am currently on lineage is by Ashwin(12/03). Using for last couple of hours.
Avg battery use: 1.9%/ hr
Sot: 3.6 %/ hr
Further I am using Greenify aggressive doze and few kernel tweaks.

judging from the available options its basically a kernel manager with inbuilt greenify. so....kernel adiutor and greenify do exactly the same as far as i can see
Yes but you shouldn’t have to use all these apps Xuefers like i say sleeps like a baby.

once its properly configured, definitely and using greenify/kernel adiutor doesnt hurt, hibernation and kernel tweaks squeeze out a bit more battery life

other than the battery life, is there any other plus side in switching to xuefer's version?
and what are the other issues in xuefer's rom?
am currently on ashwins. just waiting to have some free time to flash xuefer's rom, out of curiosity.
I'm actually looking for a rom that I will use for long term. I just don't have the time to keep on flashing roms. Will find out that's stable and use it for months
xuefers sleeps like a baby because his ROM uses "these apps" - Brevent.
Brevents is kinda similar thing to Greenify....
I use Greenify on Ashwins 12/03 build and it sleeps like a happy baby!
