Why all the ICS for Samsung galaxy s i9000 don't wanna to be together if really together will be perfect phone and is the best for the best??

When I heard that the first ics rom was being ported I was so excited, with all the new features, the user interface, I said finally were all going to look alike "One OS to rule them all" all android phones I mean, sadly every company had gone their separate way to make it theirs and that wasn't the intended, what I want to see is the stability of the iOS, plus the customized powers of the Android, let's just hope huh
BTW I am not saying it should be like the iOS, ui wise but battery, performance, and unity between devices, that's all

Personally I think ICS is overrated for I9000 at least...
Samsung should just implement TW4 to I9000 which has all those features without need of any extra hardware...
TW4 has all those capabilities such as MTP without need for phone to be locked etc.
why ICS
why ICS? Because it's better than Gingerbread simply.
couldnot send mms with darky rom (provider: fonic, germany). with team hacksungs build 14 it works.
ics is looking nice and i dont miss anything.
because I don't need Arabic/Persian/RTL fix. (ICS support RTL languages already)
ICS is faster than GB
No battery drain any more!
I feel really more stable in ICS (It's beta version and what's gone be Stable version, will be realy ROCK)
hey Samsung lock at me [LOL] I'm on ICS and this hard-wares working perfectly.
Thanks to teamhacksung/

Agree 100% GGB has been terrible with every version.
What we're really looking for in ICS is hardware acceleration and general speed increase. I ultimately don't think samsung will be able to add an option "Force 2D acceleration" onto gingerbread.

agreed, Froyo 2 versions (2.2.1) before being fast, stable and efficient. It took 6 Gingerbread versions (2.3.5) for android to not be a battery/resource hog, fast, stable and efficient.
Once I tried ICS, I don't want to be back to Gingerbread again, even if it means non official ROM's/some bugs. Pro's are more than con's

ICS is very good but there are still bugs and some instability. If the developers fix them ICS will be very good for SGS
Yes definitely I can't wait... Literally I look at the forums every hour if not more often than that, I have a evo3d and I want the update already but I want it senseless I think for now maybe HTC makes ics with sense better who knows

It's more aesthetically pleasing. :>
ICS has fast performing... battery life is fab.. I had GB and CM and today i use ICS.. And once u have ics u dont come back for sure... its like u have a new phone once u flash ics.. it really works amazing...
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Why?
Because it runs smoother, battery lasts longer, default font looks better, GMail client is better, uses less RAM than stock GB roms...
I'm on ICSSGS RC3.1 and it is already very stable for day to day use... I'm gonna use it until ICSSGS final is released and than flash it and wait for Jellybean
ICS is more refined. GB settings menu went on forever.
Flashed ICS on my SGS1 and never ever wanna go back to GB again, it's a better phone. Yea, there are still issues and bugs, but I'll live with them.
Can't wait for the official ICS for SGS2.
You guys are missing the point
I think you guys are misinterpreting OP's post. It sounds like he's asking why are there so many different versions of ICS rom.
Well for starters, you have the AOSP ICS rom, which is compiled from the ICS source code from Google. Then you have CM9 alpha, which is compiled from...well, cyanogen mod codes, which is a modified version of the ICS source code. Most if not all other ICS roms are based on the previous two roms with slightly different tweaks, kernels, etc.
P.S. For someone who came from Singapore, OP your English is just terrible. A quarter my family's in Singapore, so I can spend a good chunk of my time there.
What are these bugs I keep hearing about with ICS and CM? I'm currently trying to find a build of rom that doesn't have any issues, though through my vast searches and trials of roms I find there are bugs on most if not all the roms currently availible including the gingerbread roms, so i guess it's a case of whcich bugs can you live with..

Being ICS , it still has a bad camera right ? No radio either ? Please, please confirm so that I can install slim myself. Sick of GB. Heard a lot about Slim. Stock Calender and calculator would be good too. In fact camera like in Miui would be much much better then in ICS. Any suggestions ? Something out there ? XXJW4 is good but too moody! GB is much inferior to ICS for sure. But since no official ICS for i9000 the custom roms suffer from lack of source codes from Samsung. So any rom with Miui type camera but ICS ? Like a Hybridization ? I know XXLPH for sgs was being tried by Dhiru but it must be a challenge cause it is still stuck in pre alpha stage. Would appreciate any kind suggestions. Thanks !

Nope no FM radio, never tried spirit fm but everyone else says it works great. About the camera, it takes photos and videos, sure you don't get all the samsung focus effects and all that but oh well.
I guess if we buy an expensive smartphone we don't want to usually look for compromises ! ICS for SGS means comprising in lots of areas. Unfortunately. During the Symbian rule GB was a breath of fresh air. But within a very short span it belongs to the Jurrasic park now !
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA
sgs is for ICS. count these mark. you will forget GB after using ICS. yes it is still in beta stage. but atleast a daily useable. and m a user of Slim ics. since it's release
till now everything is working. we have auto focus camera. no bugs at all. fm radio app from samsung is not in ICS yet but soon it will be. but you can use any third party app like spirit fm. yes fm radio works in ICS. Battery is far batter then GB. you have more ram then GB. what else do you need? i,m completely disagree with above post that you have to compromise on ICS.
Best ICS roms are:
AOKP
AOSP
Slim ICS
Infinituim
and many more with 4.0.4 base
they are meant for daily use
Thanks for yr reply.
When I said compromises I meant for instance the other day I could not take group pictures with me in cause my ( excellent ) ICS INFINITUM has no self timer. I have been using and deleting ICS since Alfa builds of CM9. So I know GM is miles behind ICS for sure. Okay, so the radio will come soon ( since u say so ) but full ICS camera for sgs ? Hardly. So, please tell me - don't u feel u have an incomplete phone in yr hand ? This works but that doesn't ! That's what I meant by compromising. Spend good money to partner with issues. Samsung is smart. They want us to spend money on their new phones ! At Apple , users can still update their 3G S !
Respect the developers but they their limitations too. That's why like MIUI roms. Not GB not ICS. But their own variation. Pity, battery life is so poor and besides no TV out.
Cheers !

TV-Out is Working in ICS roms Dude atleast in Infituium and Slim ICS AOKP. I said everything is working . and about the timer in camera, if i ever wanted to use it. i will install a 3rd party app called ''Cymera''. it's a cool app with all extra options. and No not at all. i never feel like that bro that m missing something in my ICS SGS. It keeps me happy all the time Samsung Camera App in GB can not be applied in ICS. but sooner we will have that in our roms too. You can easily see that the developmental Forum of SGS is to much active then any other forums. if you need a feature, go search in play market. there you will found out. besides these small issues, ICS had given alot of new features. for an instance, 400 mb of ram, It feels like a Galaxy Nexus S and great battery timing
if i need that feature in ICS (self Timer) i will go for a 3rd party app. nd will never wana switch to MIUI or GB based roms, Cuz ICS is far far better
Thanks man! I really appreciate yr input. Sick of GB ! Take care !

Its pretty unstable, and compared to GB its pretty slow in terms of CPU and animations. I would like to go back to gingerbread, but on ICS the Play Store is so fast, and the whole OS looks nice, what gingerbread rom do you guys this is fast and stable? I guess I can tweak the rest..

use debil kernel and cm9..
Use Slim ICS v 4.0 or 4.1 (stock kernel) its the most stable ROM i've ever seen.

-> 2 days battery life with normal usage (sms, telephone, internet/rss)

Use a different ROM ...I use Remics-ux...Stable,fast,smooth. Try it and you get the answer
Clean AOKP 1.1.6 on my SGS. There is no troubling issue since then. The stock froyo DDJP2 was a big pain in the neck. The main advantage of all ICS builds is its open source so the build size is mostly 80mb to 150mb thereby saving precious size on the phone. The more stock elements and libs in the rom and more ram usage and more lags. ICS may have slow scrolling on some roms/devices but overall its absolutely a try. There is nothing much in a heavy overloaded Samsung bloatware where we don't have so much apps use in daily usage. ROMControl is a very important feature incorporated in ICS roms. LCD density is a superb option for those who prefer 160 to 192 dpi. IME switcher is also good for using custom keyboards. As an example I used a Desire HD till last week and the ICS Icecoldsandwich rom was flawless till the last touch. ICS looks plain vanilla, but it increases the user satisfaction and the true value of hardware is felt. Overall the battery lasts more on ICS builds if not too overclocked. In short, ICS is a platform for all those who were fed-up with the low performing cpu/ram/hardware/software related stock junkware of any phone.
or you could try "tiramislim" itś based on slim ics, but imho its better no bugs, much smoother then gb.
anyway, i think you tried not the right rom. there are so many ics-roms out there, most are quite stable. try different roms, or read the threads of the roms before, then you can see how others think about them
Definitely cm9. :3

I have used Galaxy SL and am using Galaxy Note.
Many people were and are complaining about Stock Roms, either ICS or GB for both of the phones I use.
They say that Camera has a pink problem, GPS does not lock quickly, Video recording is not good, it is laggy, etc etc.
But same people are dying for CM Roms which have lots of bugs. Even CM 7.2 has wifi and video recording bugs for i9003.
Even stock Roms do not have those problems, and many latest stock roms are really good, people are not happy with them.
I do not see any reason to mention about Note stock Roms, especially ICS kernels and roms. They are very very stable without any bugs.
However, many people bricked their phones while they are trying to flash CM10 to their Notes.
OK. I accept that one year old stock roms were not good as much as they should be. But this is not the case anymore.
But still many people are ready to die for CM even if it has many bugs. They complain for stock but lose themselves for CM
Now, could someone please explain me what makes CM Roms that better? And even if they have lots of bugs people are using them as daily driver?

CM(At least CM9) is really quite stable on the note, I have never had any problems with it.
I personaly use it as my daily drive for a few reasons:
I find it gives better battery life
I Love the stock ICS look over samsungs touchwiz
CM9 uses much less RAM giving more ram for apps, giving better multitasking and also much more RAM for running a linux GUI
I have used CM roms since my HTC magic CyanogenMod 4 FTW! (infact I might have been running early than that but I really dont remember)
personally ive used CM builds but never felt like ive wanted to use them as my daily drivers because they just lack too many built in features of the stock rom
im not the type of person to get a stripped down rom and download 1000 apps to make it how i want it
id rather use the stock rom, only download 10 apps and have everything there
Mainly it uses a safe kernel which is emmc cap erase command disabled which prevents from our device from bricking.
In CM(/AOSP/AOKP most of the logging/Samsung crap applications were removed so that your phone runs fast. Its just about 140-160 MB. You can feel the difference in size. lol
Its very stable compared to other roms.
You will see a lot of features put it up in rom.
Etc Etc

I was using aosp in my smaller phones. I think in the same way also.
CM lacks lots of stuff from Samsung craps. That's OK. butn it also lack lots of thing I daily use.
Besides I tried ADW Launcher. It really sucks. Nova is far more better and smoother.
Also some people claim that it drains less battery and it is fast. It is obvious that they did not use Notecore v9 with TW
I thas been 1 day and I still have %70 battery. And can't tell how awesome it is. Just check the thread...
As for ram, my phone uses ram between 500-600 mb. There are still 200 mb rams. Which is fine and enough for me.
Also it is really easy to remove some crappy stuff from samsung when you are rooted. (to be rooted takes only three minutes or maybe less )
It is OK some people like it and use it. I am of course fine with that.
But what I mean is CM is not superior to stock or TW based Roms, at least not anymore...
Regards.
But I cannot understand why people like stcok roms with some modification
its all personal preference.

error post
No matter what rom i try, i always end up going back to CM.
The main reason i'm on CM is for the speed and the features.
Error post
CM = AOSP. AOSP = Android how it was designed and intended to be.
For me, User Interface is the most important factor in choosing the OS. Android was far behind iOS and WP7. It changed since ICS and now JB made it even better than iOS. Pure awesomeness of WP7 interface is a whole other story, not commenting on the OS itself - its UI is simply amazing. Back to UI preferences...It has to be responsive, fast and well designed ( that means visually attractive and coherent ). For example, TouchWiz is terrible for me, it makes my phone look like cheap chinese rip-off. I'm sorry, that's just my opinion, i don't want to offend anyone. The only overlay i like is Sony's TimeScape, although i still prefer AOSP. Why ? Simply because it's better designed, coherent and smoother - so it makes my user experience a lot more satisfying.
For the Note, best ROM is still Paranoid Rom for me. Firstly because of the safe kernel and secondly I can easily overclock and under volt it without much hassles.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Well it all depends...when I had the captivate Cm9 was by far the best experience. So I came to the note with the same expectations but sadly cm9 and the likes are still not on par with Samsung ROMs in speed or features.
I still flash newer versions as I expect them to be better at some point but at this time..still not there. I use CleanNote Rom.

Hi everyone i've just got myself HOX but my girlfrend still has SGS over 3yrs now .My question is which rom has no lags and is good enough for daily use.I flashed for her C-rom and it's laggy as hell.
I tried couple others rom all of them are jelly beans i don't remember names of roms but most of them are laggy i repeat laggy that i can't do basic things.
So maybe jelly bean is to heavy what i mean by that is You know just a single core ,512mb of rams maybe that's not enough ,i don't know i'm not a dev i just wish to have a decent rom without lags.
Could someone suggest which rom has no lags 'cuz i'm a little bit tired of searching for it.
I don't need JB might be ICS but i wish to have a normal working phone without lags .
U hope that someone can point something for me ,anyways thanx in advance and have a good one bye bye.
First of all, I hope you're not comparing performance to your hox...
That said, there will be certain microlags, and opening certain apps might take a second, no matter which rom you choose. CM10 roms are among the most stable jb roms, there's loads of variations and re-themes of it here. No offense to anyone, but a huge amount of jb roms here are re compiled CM10 or Aokp with themes and bloatware. Aokp ics roms are the equivalent regarding ics, in my opinion.
My tip would be first to find out if gb, ics or jb is best for your girlfriend, read up on it. Which features does she need, what ui does she prefer?
Then start fresh, find some of the guides here in xda, flash gb in Odin and repartition and start from there to flash your rom of choice.
Sent from horseback.
I found cm10 to be laggy (fresh install with only nova launcher and a few google apps). CM9 is not laggy at all for me.
I'd suggest sticking to ics if performance is your main concern.

I know this might not the right place to say this, but why is everyone so keen on (unofficial) firmware and then expecting wonders? No one needs Android 4.0.x or 4.1.x on an SGS right now.
If you just want a stable, fast and almost lag-free running SGS then you should install one of the better 2.3.6 StockROMs (JVU or JW4(a little less stable but more memory)), add an optimized kernel like semaphore (stock color, not big mem version) and maybe even change the filesystem to ext4.
At least for now forget the 4.x hype, be a man, have balls and laugh at others thinking you being "uncool".
A SGS configured this way without garbage apps could run precisely like a swiss watch.

Hi
i tested gb 2.3.6 jw1 (is the best gb rom), ics cm9 and jb mackay rom. In my opinion jb is the best rom.
In GB all runs slowly, but stabil. It looks lame and old. but some people like it. I hated the performance with wlan and internet. Slower then this isnt possible. Any ICS and JB Rom is faster in this point.
CM9 runs very nice, but some games need hours to start, dont know why. I think some internet validation things needs to long. Ok after some hours my phones needed a restart, but this takes only about 3 min, then you can go on.
Mackay is super smooth, some games work even better then with cm9. Only Wlan is in this weak. But the rest is awesome. So i prefer to JB!
On all roms i had about 200 apps installed mostly games and used link2sd with a partition on my external sd. So it was always slower then a pure rom.

That's exactly the difference. I also have about 150 apps installed - but almost _no_ games, furthermore nothing moved to SD! And with XXJVU - IMHO the most stable so far - I was not counting in hours but had no restart / FC in 2-3 months.
Everybody has to make his/her own decision - my SGS is no gameboy for me, I use it for daily life and it has to run smoothly and without problems. If your phone hangs unnoticed and you couldn't get an important call then it's a lame excuse that the phone could have been rebootet within a minute when in fact it's dead until noticed by pure luck.
I'm therefore even tempted to move from actual SauROM JW8 back to JW4 or my beloved JVU ... but of course stability is not only a matter of the OS but - as Android unfortunately isn't able to catch all faults / errors - of app updates as well.
Yeah You right about GB , i remember like maybe year or two ago when "darkyrom" crue uploaded their gb roms every single day and SGS was so fast.
Now all JB roms are lagy for me and i'm going to flash old good Ginger Bread and i want to see a difference.
If there is any difference.
Anyway thanx a lot for answers i've learned something and good night every1.
I'm running cm9 with devil kernal. Its awesome.
The only reason why I don't use gb now is because and this is lame but with cm9 I can video record with my front camera....which my daughter loves....well we both do lol.

At least for now forget the 4.x hype, be a man, have balls and laugh at others thinking you being "uncool".
A SGS configured this way without garbage apps could run precisely like a swiss watch.

I like this guy.
While CM9 with devil kernal is friggen awesome...I have no problems running and recommending gingerbread. But people will always get caught in the hype.
Nice post dude.

I give vote for GB too. I tried lots of ICS and JB roms, and all happen to have some bugs, not very important bugs, but some that annoys me. I always used them for few days at most then got back on GB.
At the moment I am on JW4 GB, with Semaphore 2.7.4, and all seems to work nice, Well of course there is lag here and there, but i am on smartass gouverner and i didnt overclock CPU, its on stock 1GHz. So maybe with performance gouverner and overclocked CPU, it wouldnt have lags at all.
Also I really love GB because of stock camera app, stock music player, and sliding thing for calling and messaging. If you need some more information, be free to ask
It will still lag if you OC and choose any other governer....even with lagfix (ext4) conversion.
Not that bad tho.
I just flashed back to gb jw4 with semaphore 2.7.4.....to play with it again.
Anyone know if you can use the filesystem of cm9 on gb? May be a stupid question but its just a thought.

Well maybe, didnt try. But still I prefer phone to be stable, even if its older version of OS, then to have some bugs, restarts etc. that i had on ICS and JB...

Last 8 months of my i9000;
First 3 months was a slim ics fan
Then fourth and fifth,Elite's ics roms...
6th and 7th months,JB user(cm10/slim bean/elite's gnexus)
Now (since like 1,5 months ) I'm completely GB fan...
Even i can't believe this but ... Yes GB looks better in my opinion...
You know some people ask which is the best rom in Q section and everyone's answer is the same,"it depends how you're using)
GB is my style from now on...
In ics/JB there is something is missing that i really dont know what"s that....
Note:I'm on XXJVT with no root access (stock kernel) for about a month... And i'm veeeery happy with it ..
GT-I9000 cihazımdan Tapatalk 2 ile gönderildi
just install SLIMBEAN from XDA its awesome... I'm using this from last 2 months and really no problem at all.. its smooth fast and stable..
and once you get use to it you will never go back to any other rom even your stock..because apps open very quickly and its to compact also only 70 mb... and one more thing battery life is almost same..as stock ROM
I am on the latest CM10 nightly with the JB semaphore kernel, no overclock, bigmem enabled, and I have honestly found it to be the best most responsive ROM I have used on the phone to date.
Previous to that I was using the stable release of CM9 with semaphore, and while it wasn't perfect in terms of lag, it was rock solid stable and reliable. I would use this for your girlfriend if I was you (as I am assuming she isn't as tech savvy as yourself, so best to stay away from nightlies). I'm sure she won't even notice a little bit of lag. And the usability of ICS compared to GB is, in my opinion, dramatically better. Just uninstall all the development apps before giving it to her.
All roms can be a second slower than some, that's just expected. I recommend just getting her something up to date and clock it up to 1104 Mega Hurts if the screen doesn't freeze on it if you do.

Using X-Bean 3.0 + Semaphore 2.5.0s on a daily base. Running smooth & stable here. LiveOc 120, big mem 404mb, ondemand ui, rasd 1024, sio/noop. Not had a single reboot, lag etc whatsoever
I'm a noob when it comes to Android roms and such.
I have a rooted samsung galaxy s infront of me now but I have a question.
I have read that a lot of roms disable a couple of original features, like the google play store, video camera etc.
Now my question; Is there a custom rom that gives you anything like android 4.0+ for example with no features being lost?
Yes I have heard about CM but I read that it does remove a couple of features which I need..
What features will you miss? Play store and video work perfectly on cm10 and 10.1 based ROMs plus they trend to have lots of extra features compared to stock. I'm running Mackay ROM based on jelly bean 4.2 (cm 10.1) with semaphore kernel. Stable and really fast.

I'm using RemICS-JB_4.2 , and for me it is very stable and fast, UI is from SGS3, worth to try...
The mackay rom is very good
So it's just a myth that you will lose some stock functions? Don't trust me on my word but I think I've read that it removes HD filming or something.

You can enable xl ram (around 400 mb) in some kernels such as semaphore and devil which can mean you loose hd video, but by default it is disabled in almost all ROMs. So if you leave ram alone it's not a problem and I still have 720p video. Tbh there is a patch now that makes 720 work with big ram anyhow, but I manage just fine with the 389mb standard with semaphore so I haven't tested this.

So Semaphore kernel and CM as ROM leaves all normal features intact? Perfect. Just one last question; a lot of people prefer CM9 over CM10. Any specific reason for this?

Because CM9 is more stable. CM10 requires more resources to run on our old phones. You might not get enough RAM.I also noticed some games force closed on CM10.But they all work nicely in CM9.
Thanks for the answers.
Something popped in my head so that leaves me with 1 more question; I currently have hardcore speedmod kernel and I did the lagfix (transfer to EXT4) and it took some SD space of course. Now before I go to Semaphore kernel should I first somehow uninstall the lagfix? And how?
Thanks!

This is becoming less of an issue as development goes on but it is a factor to consider. I have to overclock cpu to get high end games to work. But you can't even install most of them on stock 2.3 so depends what you're after. I prefer the extra features that cm 10.1 gives. Can always flash to cm9 stable and give it a go and then upgrade from there, sensible to go to cm9 then 10 anyhow. You will have to full wipe between 9 and 10 though. So titanium backup is the best app you will ever install.

I'll just loan this thread a bit because I have a similar situation. I've only changed ROMs few times and I'm kinda noob myself too. I'm looking for a fast and stable ROM. Few days ago I installed ELITEMOVILS:s 4.2.1 galaxy nexus stock rom. It's good but cant get the wifi working properly so I thought I'd try another one. Should I go for JB 4.1.2 or for 4.2.1? Are the 4.1.2 releases more stable and is there a big difference in features and speed? Also battery life is quite important factor for me when choosing ROM (BTW has anyone found a good replacement battery with longer battery life than the stock one?). I dont update ROMs that frequent so it would be important that the release would be stable and functioning.
Slim Roms are pretty lightweight 4.2.1 beta 1 for me has been pretty stable and responsive. I also downloaded and flashed Semaphore 2.9.0s afterwards.

4.1.2 should be more stable than 4.2.1 as its been developed longer and even has gotten the official stable version released.
4.2 does bring some new features like all new releases but not as major as for example 4.1 brought, for this reason Google decided to keep the Jellybean name for the newer version.
Regarding battery life your best bet is a Gingerbread ROM, but frankly I'm satisfied with my CM10 in that regard.
I'm using a Pisen 1700mAh battery, and its very good for its price,I bought it from Deal Extreme, but be careful to research a battery before buying any, most of them are horrible and can even break your phone in some cases.
It's been said an official 1800mAh battery meant for the Epic 4g (Carrier-locked Samsung Galaxy S2) fits our phone even though it's thicker; I just bought one myself, but it's being shipped from the US and I'm in Norway so it'll be a week before I could confirm that myself...
The Wi-Fi issue with 4.2 is known and pawitp had released a fix for it, I don't know if the current nightlies from the CM team have incorporated it

Thx for the reply. I just installed Slim Bean 4.2.1. Beta 2 six hours ago and so far I've liked it very much. WLAN working too. I think I'll change to 4.1.2. if I still encounter problems. I'll take a look at the DX battery. Please tell us how it went with the Epic 4g battery when u get to test it
Thread closed. Everytime I see a "Best ROM/kernel thread, I die a little inside.
