[Q&A]Call getting silent in between - XXLA4 - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was facing some issue during call, it was getting silent (receiver couldn't hear voice for few sec)
This starts happening after i flashed to LA4
First I ignore it, believed it cud be due to network problem. But it was happening regularly. By the time i tried
WIpe Data, removed some SW, which i thought causing error
Reflash LA4 again, but there was no result.
Last 3 days back I have changed Radio, Basically I am in india, I was using other radio, That may be the cause. ( I am not sure it can be possible)
But Now I have
Build version XXLA4
Kernel CF Root LA4
Baseban DDKL1
N since 3 days, not a single time it happened.
May be helpful to others anyway.

After flashing and toying with Darky.... RocketRom.......Chracks..
Now I unroot and flash to my stock ROM.
N7000DXKL1 --2.3.5 2011 December
N7000OLBKJ6 --Singapore (SingTel)
still got voice issue....
going to root again now and flash via Mobile Odin Pro in your guide to latest updated ROM
N7000DXLA1 --2.3.6 2012 January
N7000OLBKL2 -- Singapore (Singtel)

What exactly I did is, I have replaced Modem with my regional ROM.
e.g. After flashing with LA4, My device had
Build version XXLA4
Baseband(modem) XXLA4
Kernel XXLA4 (CF Root)
Now after this i have flash only modem part with Mobile odin pro, n i have select modem of my reional ROM
Now I have
Build versio XXLA4
Baseband (Modem) DDKL1
Kernel XXLA4 CF Root
Now i have no issue

cool.....
so is it the same method as this guys in the last post?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1405932
please guide me how you select and which file.

No, changing CSC is different.
Actually if you are flashing ROM of your home region then i dont think, yu need this.
In my case i was using non regional Modem, thats why i have flashed only modem of my home stock ROM.

Hi,
I intend to flash to RocketRom again and use your method to flash to my home stock modem.
So which file and input should i select?

You can use same tar file of your Home Stock ROM.
Download n extract your home stock file n put in SD card.
open mobile odin - select - modem - point to your stock Home tar file - n flash.
It will flash only modem.
Input your result, may be helpful to others

@dr.ketan I have EXACTLY same problem. It happens in 5% to 10% percent calls, and so is why I have been rather ignoring it, although was always sure its not network related (I am based in Gujarat (ahmedabad), and am on Vodafone network).
In fact I have had this issue when I bought my first galaxy note in Nov, that had KL1 and I believe I used to have it over 40% to 50% and I noticed it improved after I got an OTA update to KL3, but still had this issue of calls getting silent, for more than% 15 to 20% times.
This month I changed my galaxy note for a white one, and the new device came with KL3 pre-installed. and I used to have almost negligible issues of silent calls.
Last week I flashed LA4 (Germany), {in fact I believe u will recall I discussed this with you}, and I notice after the update I am encountering this silent call issue for 5% to 10% times.
I am not yet rooted on this new LA4, so does it mean to flash the radio alone, I should root, which apparently would mean I will have to downgrade to stock KL3, root, reflash stock LA4 using mobile odin. I was hesitating to downgrade to stock KL3 because I guess its a WIPE version and I don't want to loose my few important settings. So, is there a way to flash the suggested RADIO without rooting my existing LA4?

If you are not rooted then also u can do it. You can extract 1level deep that indial kl3 rom n you will get modem file. Then flash only modem with pc odin.
Another better thing is just get downgrade to kl3, it is non wipe, so will get chance to root your device too. Then after root, you can update to la4 with mobile odin pro, here you hve to just keep modem part blanl, n everroot enabled. So your pda only get updated, not modem. Then u can get cf root kernel la4 too.

Wow. Thanks for the prompt response!! (its almost 3am IST- when do u sleep, if u are still awake at this hour my friend !!!))
I am glad to know that KL3 is non-wipe, so I will now prefer to downgrade, root and reflash using mobile odin.
Regarding flashing the appropriate radio (so that the call silent issue is taken care of), can u please advice with any link to download the correct radio.

Yes this is my routine time to go to sleep, 2.30 to 3am. I need just 5.30 hr sleep n on sunday big 10 hrs.
No u need not to download separate modem. Just keep that kl3.
When u update kl3 to la4 or any, just keep modem field blank in mobile odin, that prevents your modem to update la4. But pda will get updated, thats it.

Tried and maked my Baseband Version to be emptied when I put the entire file on Mobile Odin in Modem.
Than flash again by just extracting the Modem file only and it works but my 3G is disabled and no internet connectivity.

Check wat is there under about phone
It is like thiss :
Baseband : that show modem you have flashed
You need to enter APN to get connect to 3G

[Q] Easiest way to get on to this german ICS today

Hi,
I hope you can help, I have trawled the threads and just have a few scattered pieces of the puzzle.
Can somebody please walk me through this... I have a stock XEF note fully updated and would like to put the german DBT one on there.
I am not worried about backing apps and settings up or perm root and would like to retain the ability to get upgrades by kies or device software update, is this possible?
Would the easiest way be to root and change the code in the file to DBT and use kies, DBT does not seem to be an option with the *#272*IMEA#?
If I need to root to do this, whats the easiest way to do it, market app?
Thanks for your time.
Cheers
Richard

I you dont care about root use PC odin to flash or if you need root mobile odin should do the job.thn to get cwm flash cf-root kernel
Stock instruction - No root
Here's my instructions for complete noobs (including myself). I hope it's helpful to some people.
Warning: I read from one of the members that if you have a custom ICS (beta), this will brick your phone. I don't know whether this is true or not, but it worked fine for my Checkrom v6 Gingerbread device.
0. Download and install Samsung Kies. (to get the USB drivers)
1. Download the ROM file from here using software such as utorrent:
or from directly from here.
Source: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
2. Once the zip file is downloaded, extract the file inside. You'll have a file named something like xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.tar.md5.
3. Download Pc Odin
Source: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
Extract it to a folder somewhere. This software will be used to push the ROM image file to the phone. Since the ROM image is stock, it won't increase the sneaky custom firmware counter.
4. Power off your Note.
5. Hold Volume down & Home & press Power button. Then when you see the Samsung logo, let go of the Power button. Your phone will boot into Odin/download mode. Press Volume up when asked to. Now you are in download mode.
6. Connect your phone with usb cable to your computer.
7. On your computer, run PC Odin. Then click on PDA, and select the xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.tar.md5 file that you downloaded.

Don't touch anything other than the red boxes. Then click start. (In this picture I don't have the phone connected, but when your phone is connected, the box under ID:COM will be yellow with port number in it.)
Downloading should take about 10 minutes.
8. Once done, you'll see your Note booting up into ICS. You can do a factory reset if you want, just to make sure it's nice and clean.
followed ur method to unbrick myself out of it, i guess enough said

Glad that it's working. By the way, this instruction I posted up there will overwrite the kernel too because stock image file contains everything. Other people are using Mobile Odin Pro, but I don't want to buy that software as I don't think I'll be using it many times. I'm going to wait for rooting mine. For now, stock setting without root works fine for me.
Thank you so much hp79 for the guide and providing the links, this worked perfectly!!
flashing DBT outside Germany
Pardon the absolute noobness, but I wanted to make sure that by flashing the DBT file, I won't suffer in the long run.
will be there any adverse effect of flashing a firmware designed for a german carrier or the german country? Will my Note start looking for wrong frequencies?
Would I need to do a second flashing or load a new CSC file (whatever that is) after I'm done?
Wow! This actually worked! I had a XEF-phone, and this walkthrough installed ICS with no problem at all. It didn't even wipe the phone!
I've seen several walkthroughs, but not this clear and straight forward.
Will tweet this thread. Thanks so much!
Wow, this sounds great! But how do I do this with a mac? Does is work with heimdall?
@hp79, That is a wonderful guide. thumbs up for this. I saw this guide after I flashed ICS but used the same procedure you have posted.
If you don't mind can you answer one question of mine as best as you can.
If I want to revert back to my GB do I follow the same procedure that got me to ICS.
I ask this because when I go to http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/ and click "checker" and I enter my phone model and my phone is the Hong Kong one so I select TGY. But I didn't write down the PDA, CSC and modem codes when I had GB. So now I have forgotten them.
So in order to get back to the GB I originally had is the TGY (Hong Kong) sufficient enough for me to manually look for the GB in the list under Asia and get the GB 2.3.6 I originally had?
Would this take me back to the GB I had before I flashed ICS (Germany)
I hope I have written this clear.
reason I ask this is because just in case something goes wrong or I decide that ICS is not good for me right now I want to be able to go back and without me noting down the PDA, CSC and modem codes of my GB I cant download the correct ROM. All these questions I ask is to make sure when later I update through kies it wont stuff up.
Thanks for any answers.

Maybe someone with more knowledge can answer you question, but I think the frequency for GSM cellular band is standard for everywhere, and the phone should support all frequency it can make use of. I know for sure that there are differences in wifi channel support depending on country and regulation, so there could be missing wifi channels in 2.4GHz and 5GHz band. I'm in U.S, and my original Gingerbread firmware was UBKK with Spanish language when I turned my phone on for the first time.

I flashed between 5 different kind of region of stock Gingerbread ROMs using PC Odin on my Note, starting from UBKK1. I also tried some custom Kernels in ClockworkMod, but I never changed modem codes or anything like that. So you might know more than I do. When I used stock ROMs, they all worked right after flashing, but sometimes there were missing apps (or even additional apps) and I just needed to do a factory reset, and then I would get everything to default out of the box condition.
Since I never tried going back myself, I can't say for sure, but I think it'll take us back to Gingerbread using PC Odin and stock ROMs.
It's not bug free, but I really like how ICS is. Bugs I encountered so far - in Amazon appstore, I couldn't click the "install" after downloading was finished. I had to reboot, then I was able to click on that. Another bug, I paired a bluetooth keyboard, but wasn't able to type with it. After reboot and re-pairing it's working perfect. Another bug, using Torque, when there is no BT device, it kind of stalled the whole app and screen went gray. But these could be bugs from the software and not the OS. Everything else is much smoother now. Unlocking screen has much less lag. Remember the lag and choppiness in Gingerbread's unlock screen? It's much better now. Stylus support is much better too. You can display a small dot for your stylus on the screen, just like tablet PC now. So you have better precision. Sad thing is that Papyrus is only for Gingerbread. (Papyrus is like mini version of OneNote to me as I use Onenote on Tablet PC.)
I do miss having root though. Can't install Adblock, can't get rid of the camera shutter sound, but still I would never go back to Gingerbread.
I just connected my phone to Kies on PC and it says "your device does not support software upgrading via kies."
So my previous post, if anyone can answer that I would appreciate it.
Cheers.
Sorry I was typing when you posted above.
In that case I will wait until ICS officially comes to my area and then I will start putting stock GB ROMS on my device to see if Kies recognizes it as official and then I will upgrade to ICS via Kies.
Cheers.

I think it is highly recommended to do a full wipe including emmc dalvic cache since you are installing a totally different system..
it's just an FYI....
wtf I downloaded this http://www.hotfile.com/dl/144991274/0a35087/N7000ZSLA2_N7000OZSLA2_TGY.zip.html from SamMobile official and the archive is password protected.
Anyone know where I can get the password?
no worries I found it.
This is a decent thread noobs...if you are a total virgin relax flashing a ROM isnt as scary as you think...its so much easier and fool proof than it was just a year ago let alone a few years ago
If you are worried about the binary counter or want 2 avoid custom roms all together follow the simple instructions. You can find the original instructions by Dr. Katen in his basic Stock Roms thread found in the Android Develooment section.
IF you have a stock ginergbread rom and you follow these instructions, you will have a stock ICS wo any effect to binary counter or problems whatsoever.
You could then easily root the device with the EZ CWR method found in other threads however there is rumor that CWR is causing corrupting a few sectors of the internal NAND flash memory....one confirmed brick so far....so you may want to hold off on that until a "safe kernal" is developed for rooting or the issue w CWR wiping and LPY is figured out.
im running stock ICS wo any issues whatsoever so far...has some lag backed up did a fsctory deset running very smoothly. Am now waiting for Cyan to drop a new ROM based off LPY or for the chefs 2 put something new together off LPY after the rooting issue is worked out.
Happy flashing

Check your csc, then you will see ics is not out for your phone yet.
Dial *#06# that will show hour emei. Write it down, then dial *#272*yourimeinumberhere# that will show your csc, you can change it here, it will wipe your data thought.
Dependant on your rom, you will be able to change it. Then it is still no guarantee update is available thought kies or ota. You can then download rom from sammobile.com. Notice thought all current ics have bug for note, that when you do a factory reset, wipe data or wipe from cwm can brick your phone. So judge if its worth the risk. If I were you I would wait or download cm9, they build a kernel without the bug. Note thought either way you can get warrantee issues

If I were you I would wait or download cm9, they build a kernel without the bug. Note thought either way you can get warrantee issues

I am also from Pakistan. The note that I bought is an Arabian distribution with jpla1 ROM. I am also not receiving the update. Though I got the previous update via it's from 2.3.5 to 2.3.6. What do we do now what do we do???

See my post above, only thing you can do is wait for csc arabian ics, or change csc.
Reposted steps, you will lose data.
Download stock gb rom from country which has csc and ics. Flash it throught pc odin. Perform factory reset from dialer. Change csc with steps I posted before. To make sure right one is selected.
Then update throught kies or if available ota. If no update is available, screw it and download ics rom, flash through pc odin, do not select repartition if you dont have pit file. Do not select clear efs.
Extra info:
I cs or gb rom stock roms, unzip them, should be single tar. Md5 file. In pc odin put these in pda. For flashing phone needs to be in download mode. Press volume down, power and home button simultaniously and keep pressed when phone is booting. Then when it shows download mode connect to pc and open odin. Sometimes takes couple tries press volume button up to confirm dowload mode. Now you can start
Flashing. It takes some time, do not disconnect phone. Wait till odin says passed.
Now you have lost warrantee, all at own risk, but upside you could have working ics. Note do not restore backups as they will most likely cause battery drain and errors.
Do not ever perform reset or factory reset from ics, with any app, not even samsung cause it could brick your phone.

Guys, Im sorry you find rooting and such hard.
I installed ICS and I love it. Its very nice and havent found anything wrong with it.
Now, this method I am going to show you will put ICS ontop of your Gingerbread, so you will keep your settings, apps and other things. Its easy and only a few things to do, so, lets get started:
Download the ICS rom (hong kong): HERE
Then copy it to your phone
Now for rooting:
Download the Files first and put in your SDCARD CWM, SU-BusyBox
Reboot to recovery (hold vol up, power and home)
Choose and apply the CWM update.
Then do the same with SU.
Choose and Install SU-Busybox-Installer.zip
You are now rooted.
Reboot.
Download and install Mobile Odin.
After installing this, open it and grant it superuser permissions.
Scroll down to open file, select your file and press ok.
Select inject enable everroot, and everything below it, then press flash firmware.
Do a MD5 check if you wish (dont have to, but it is best).
Then after 2-3mins, it should install and reboot.
After reboot, it will take ~5mins to startup as the applications need to be altered for ICS.
So, hopefully, you did that right and now you have ICS!
(Credit for these files go to dr.ketan)

How did you do that ? My CSC code shows its from Poland. Will changing the CSC code to Germany will make it get the update ?
Or if there is any other way please do tell.
Actually flashing a ROM is not that difficult. Just follow what the senior member's post. Follow step by step and you will lead to success. Try few more times and you will be used to it. Don't worry about the binary count as we can reset the binary count using Triangle away and binary reset.
I flash my SGN more than 15 times, keep flashing till I get the fastest ROM I wanted. From GB, German ICS, CM9, Rocket ROM, Criskelo, Litening ROM..
Now I stick to KingDriod. This ROM is damn fast.. Can give it a try..
Cheers..
No need to apply roms

[Q] Rooting I-9000

Please see post 3 for the 'worse' update
-------
Hello,
Just a bit of background - have had my galaxy I-9000 for 1-2 years now, had been running dramatically slow, so upgraded it to 2.3.6 (GINGERBREAD.XWJW6) & it runs a lot faster. Unfortunately, it has many more "optus apps" which I detest.
I'm looking to "reboot" the phone - which from reading some threads means "rooting" the phone. My questions relating to this are:
1. If I 'root' the phone, will my contacts/messages be retained, or is it a complete wipe of the phone
2. How exactly do I 'root' the phone? Is there a thread that shows you (I've seen threads, but they are technical, & I become confused when they start mentioning roms etc)
Furthermore, as far as I've read, after you 'root' your phone, you have to install a ROM, for example "SLIM ICS" (what's ICS stand for?)
I've also read, but I'm not sure that because the firmware I've upgraded to is relatively new - that 'rooting' is not yet available? Is this also true?
Thanks for your help =)
1. Rooting doesn't wipe anything. Maybe cache or/and dalvik cache uf you flash with cwm.
2. Look for cf-root kernel thread.
There is a step-by-step guide and the needed rooted kernels.
You will need, Odin, the kernel.tar file and the phones Downloadmode (volume down + home + power)

Hello again,
Well my phone seems to have shat itself? It comes up with the "black screen of death," but I have been able to get to the downloadable screen.
I wanted to know how to recover it, I am no tech wizard, but this is the stuff I have:
- ODIN v1.85
Please tell me what else I need, I'm guessing a ROM?
I will be forever grateful, thanks
if you have the download mode, you have to flash properly the GB JVU, then to flash the CF root for JVU to become root and have access to CWM. then you can upgread to ICS

Thank you!
I'm following it step by step (downloading the XJVU 200meg file at the moment)
I will let you know about my progress
you need the three files, for phone, pda and csc. And you also need the pit file, and the cf_root file.
So an update!!!
Black screen of death, diverted!!! (phew)
Flashed to 2.3.6 XXJVU
Rooted it as well
Now looking for a ROM to put in...
Now because I'm on 2.3.6, does that mean I can only get the "SURFACE" ROM? What's the advantage of changing ROMS anyway?
Cheers

If you want to flash slim just go to slim website, and follow the instructions, take your time, and make sure you read and follow the instructions, any problems then post on the slim thread, I will keep an eye out for you
I'm glad for you thiolus. Cm9 or slim are good. I'm on cna by franzy and i think it's a very good rom on ics
Another update guys!
Well I flashed it, then rooted it (see now I'm using proper lingo =P) XXJVU
Then finally put on CM7 which makes everything faster, for now I think it is okay, although I think I will update it later as I want more whizzbang!
Another problem I encountered was getting all the contacts, kies saved as SPD file which wasn't recognised - had to save it as VCR/vcard file, then merge all of it together into one file - I learned how to use DOS too!
So literally 8 hours later (slept at 430 am, now its 730 =P) this is it for now, thanks everyone for helping so much

Updating problems (Stock GB to Stock ICS)

I recently went from custom ICS roms to stock gingerbread. I am having troubles trying to get the phone to update through wi-fi and Kies. When I try to update on the phone through wifi it says there is "no software update available". When connecting the Note with Kies it says "Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies". Anyone else had this problem?
The ROM I flashed via ODIN is:
N7000XXKK9 ------ 2.3.6 2011 November------- N7000OXAKK9 -----------------Germany (Debitel) -------------------
I know I can just update via ODIN but I would like OTA updating to work.
Download OPEN Germany from three followinf link and you will have no issue with OTA
just flash 4.0.4 direct...since you are already on GB
do you need root? If so then instead flash the pre rooted GB rom on the same page... and yoi can use mobile odin then to wipe flash the 4.0.4 with everroot and supersu... That is what i would do...
Be sure to use a safe kernel if you plan on doing any wipes on ics

Well I read your preconditions and am not sure if I have everything correct. All I've done is flash the 4.0.4 stock ROM with Odin and still get the problem with Kies. Is there more I need to do?
why dont you keep updating via odin, Its faster then Kies.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
I'm currently trying to sell the phone and the buyer may not want to do it that way. Rather than through Kies, I'm hoping to just get updating through the phone to be working. But I could just tell them to update through Odin if no solution is found.
Anyone have a solution to this problem?
Go by them one by one and eliminate them. If you cant figure one out, then ask
preconditions for update ota/kies
No root(for ota it doesnt matter)
All codes intact (imei, pcode)
All components installed of same rom and version of rom that was distributed through Kies or ota.
Rom csc must match the installed rom. Most updates aren't available because for phone csc there is no update. This is the csc obtainable throught dialing *#06# for imei then dial *#272*yourimeihere#. Note changing csc triggers factory reset, so do from save kernel should you like to change.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
have you reset your counter binary ?
Okay, now I feel dumb. Guess every problem/fix isn't always so technical. Believe problem was the wrong country/region was selected on the Samsung agreement and hadn't changed until I did a factory reset.
Okay, so I guess that wasn't the problem. A Singapore ROM had just happened to work while the others did not.
Edit2: Dudes remember do resets wipes only on safe kernels... Best done from gb.
Edit: made a way that could work for yah. Checking preconditions with some of the how to is a must. It saves following procedure. Anyway if you get stuck, follow this advice.
A way to get updatability functional throught Kies/OTA.
Restore efs backup of condition when first bought phone.
If none made, root phone and make one now safe multiple locations. (of the phone)
Then, if you know csc phone came with, download a rom for that csc, earliest gb possible, one that was distributed throught Kies or Ota. See www.sammobile.com for that. it shows a kies logo next to the rom in the firmware section. That is the one we are looking for. Should have in the zipfile a single tar file.
Now get a standard pit file and flash throught pc odin the rom with the pitfile. See dr ketans thread in sticky section development for that on how to do it. Do this all without external sd card or simcard in phone, never select clear efs in pc odin.
If phone doesnt reboot head into recovery and factory reset and clear cache. Reboot. After phone reboot dial *2767*3855# for ultimate factory reset. Do not change anything to the rom, no cf or modded kernel or different modem. You will lose all data.
Now after this completes,
Check imei, check csc as described earlier. All intact and inline with rom? Good, if not, select the csc of the rom press instal and let phone reboot.
Now check pcode:dial *2767*4387264636# this should be same as rom, and filled in. Pcode correct? Good.
Now you dont have root, codes correct, and an updatable rom.
Hook up to Kies and or ota update it!
You might need to check with different versions of roms(preferably gb to be safe). I found some weren't directly updatable, dont know why.
Notes
If imei is gone, reflash efs backup,
If nulls on entry with keyboard select the tar file in pcodin in cache and flash)
If pcode different, you can change, but search on how to edit it on computer with hex editor. Pm me if this is the case. I hope not. In the end its easier to start over with a rom matching that pcode that is there and selecting the coresponding csc
ps I have done this multiple times, all based on experience and countless hours figuring out how to fix it so I have way back should I want to sell phone in working condition.
All at own risk, I am trying to help, but can't guarantee anything, what worked for me may not work for others

I have been able to update from kies 3 times now, but last release just doesn't work.
My original CSC was ZTA, then I changed it to DBT when it was on 2.3.5 (GB).
Kies let me update from 2.3.5 to 2.3.6 to 4.0.3, then to 4.0.4 (I am currently on XXLRK, CSC DBT).
Now, kies says:
Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies.
Current firmware version: N7000XXLRK/N7000DBTLRK/N7000XXLRK/N7000XXLRK (ZTA)
How does it know my device was originally ZTA?
Why have I been able to upgrade via Kies so far and last update Kies says I can't upgrade?
Thanks in advance.
Kies has an update of itself as well from time to time and it retains and detects your very original copy of your ROM in its system (before you change your csc to DBT- Germany?)
Comparing it with the initial(checksum) and with your latest ROM upgrade, KIES sees some anomaly on your latest ROM (since its not on the right tree path), therefore its telling you now, your latest ROM is not supported anymore.
You were able to fool the software before.. but it's not going to be fooled second time already. Either you can revert back to your original CSC and upgrade it again thru kies (on the right tree path) or the second option would be to use PC /mobile Odin from now on to upgrade (to the firmware/ROM of your choice).
Or you can clean install kies, take out all registry keys files etc. But thats to much hastle

Kor is default csc for I think Asians rom, or Korean. If csc of phone is not present it defaults to a default csc in rom. Its funny.
Messed up many times. Be safe
You can select your choice csc rom tar file in cache in pc odin, flash and then its selectable, be on safe kernel or gb rom just in case

[Q] I9295 - How-to update baseband?

Hi all,
I am on a custom rom (Carbon) and want to update the baseband of my I9295.
I downloaded the latest stock firmware for my region from sammobile.com
However I am unsure how to proceed. If I open the firmware file with 7zip I can see the files modem.bin and NON-HLOS.bin.
How is the correct procedure? I have to flash them over "phone" with Odin? Which settings have to be checked in Odin?
Will it work like this??
Flash modem.bin over phone (only auto reboot and reset time checked)
Reboot
Flash NON-HLOS.bin over phone (only auto reboot and reset time checked)
Reboot
Please help, I don't want to brick the phone.
Best wishes, Christian
I want that too
Howdy,
I was curious about that too. Am also on a custom ROM and wanted to update the modem.
Last week I was using TouchWiz and made the update to the latest available firmware, which also updated the baseband version.
But... I just couldn't find a way to root that newer firmware, which was unacceptable, so I had to flash back to the original one, which also reverted my baseband version to the former one.
Maybe I'm missing something here, but there should be a way to do this.
It would be nice if it were so easy as you propose it, by flashing those 2 bins from the official firmware, but how? Which tab in Odin do you use for that? Are you sure those are the necessary files? Are you willing to risk bricking "for science"?
Regards.
Did not work
Hi,
I tried as described above using the France (XEF) firmware ML3 from sammobile.com.
It didn't brick the phone but my baseband also did not change. After that I just flashed the whole stock firmware (into PDA of course). This caused the phone to bootloop on the Samsung logo. I pushed clockwork recovery via Odin and restored my Nandroid backup. Phone is working again, but the baseband is still the old one.
Has anyone suggestions?
Best wishes,
Christian
You're a brave one
It looks like the modem is an integral part of the firmware. You pushed those files through Odin and it didn't change the baseband version, but it must've overwritten something in there, since after flashing the entire firmware the phone wouldn't boot. Anyway, who knows? When I updated, I didn't bother downloading the firmware on my PC and pushing it to the phone, I just used Kies. As I said, it updated the baseband too, but I couldn't root the thing anymore. You can try that too, maybe you'll manage to root it afterwards.
Looks like you used Odin 3.07, which has the PDA tab, they changed that a bit in 3.09. Any idea what the other tabs do? Maybe I should find some instructions on that.
Anyways, a more qualified person should give us an opinion on this, if it can be done or not.
Cheers.

In principal, after I pushed the whole firmware it should have updated the baseband. I don't understand why it didn't. Perhaps something is wrong with my Odin. After flashing it only showed "RESET" in blue instead of "PASS" in green. However, pushing the custom recovery worked even without the green "PASS".
Additionally, I got the Samsung boot logo after I pushed the firmware. Before I had the Carbon boot logo.
I cannot use Kies as I am on a custom Rom and the phone is not recognized by Kies. Did you try rooting by pushing CWM recovery via Odin? This should work regardless of your baseband (at least on the I9295 because of the unlocked bootloader). I don't think there's anything wrong with your Odin. Just that, before flashing the whole firmware, you should have reset the phone entirely, preferably from the recovery partition (CWM), as you do when flashing custom ROMs. Or probably you didn't wait long enough for Odin to turn green and give you a "PASS". Or maybe, seeing that it didn't work you should have tried flashing again. The first Sammy logo is present on boot regardless of the currently used ROM. The ROM's logo or TouchWiz logo is displayed after the initial Sammy logo.
Obviously, I was able to use Kies because I was on TouchWiz, as I've said before. After updating, I've tried many things in order to get root again. Of course I also pushed CWM. Problem is I got a continuous annoying popup from the ELM agent (part of Knox) crashing, preventing me to install apps and asking for restart. So, the phone was unusable. The rooting methods I used are valid for previous firmwares, they did not work for the updated one, for me at least. I didn't find anyone who has root with newer stock firmware. Or maybe there are ways I didn't try.
Odin 3.07 or 3.09, nevermind the version, what the buttons do - that's what matters.
Cheers.

Hi all,
I tried that. However as I described above it didn't update the baseband.
Best wishes, Christian

I flashed TouchWiz firmware (PDA) I9295XXUBML3 via Odin (I used the Nordic countries version CSC I9295NEEBNA2).
It installed baseband version I9295XXUAMF7, which KIES confirmed as being the latest available.
Then I've pushed CWM, rooted (although it wasn't necessary anymore) and installed CM11.
And that's that.

Did you manage to boot the stock rom?
Mine bootlooped on the Samsung logo after I pushed it with Odin.
Best wishes,
Christian

Yeah, I had real trouble booting into the newly installed stock TW. The thing would get stuck on the SAMSUNG logo and would stay there forever. I eventually booted (manually) into stock recovery and wiped data/factory reset (as if it wasn't already factory default), wiped cache partition and tried again. It didn't work. I repeated the previous wipes and the f...er booted into TW. I flashed CWM, flashed SuperSU zip via CWM. Knox was behaving really annoying before that. So I had root. But my wifi just didn't work anymore. I checked the new things brought by this firmware, nothing interesting there, I hooked Kies and it confirmed these are the latest PDA, CSC, baseband and then I returned to CM11 and lived happily ever after.
Flasching modem / Baseband / Question how to flasch NON-HLOS in Odin
patzyalex said:
Howdy,
I was curious about that too.
Regards.

Hi, I found a comment from @alram here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53188068&postcount=299
acording to him you just have to flash the modem files as phone in odin.
Not shure about the NON-HLOS.BIN files though...
Do they also have to be flashed as Phone in ODIN????
Here are just the modem files from him: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0BwwLmYElvFOmRkF4WGhEbFNoMG8&usp=sharing

Yeah, man, I've seen that.
I didn't bother with flashing the modem separately anymore, since updating to the KK TouchWiz updated my baseband to UCNE5. But it certainly can be done, I don't know about #allram's way via Odin, you can ask him yourself what to do with the NON-HLOS file.
There's also #spegelius' way, in Linux http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52603644&postcount=219
Hi,
Thanks for the hint. ...i missed that.
Still, i' m on Windows (sorry) and therfore with odin.
>4. sudo heimdall flash --MDM >modem.bin
Ok. Flash as modem.... can translate that.
But what with:
>5. sudo heimdall flash --APNHLOS >NON-HLOS.bin
???
I'l try try to google that....
Unfortunatly sammy has not jet released a german 4.4.2 update....so...i'd have to go for the Netherlands update in order to completely flash 4.4.2 TW. I kind of shy that.... so i consider just updating the modem and otherwise use @alrams CM11 (which i really love). I hope to solve some sound issues i experience with CM11 and the UBML2 baseband.

I used the Dutch TW for KitKat and I had no trouble whatsoever, even if I'm in Romania. The Northern Countries version is also available. I did it just to check out the latest Sammy stock ROM and... nothing interesting there. A day later I switched to #allram's latest CM11.
Cheers.

If U try it, don't forget to use the "Phone" or "CP" button, according to Odin version, as #allram says.
