I am using Setcpu on my motorola droid with rooted FRG22. Why wont it let me overclock it higher than 800mhz??? I'm kinda new to doing this and wondering if I'm doing anything wrong. Thank you
[A] Overclock answer
Yes you have SetCPU and your phone is rooted. However, you're missing one more piece to the puzzle. In order for you to clock over 800Hz you have to install a kernal cooresponding to the voltage and what you want to overclock it to. I recommend you googling(haha) p3designs and choose a kernal you want to try. Instructions are on the site as to how to install. I currently have a low voltage of 125Mhz overclocked at 1Ghz. Hope that helps
Question for you Stephen, with you running 1.2Ghz on your droid, has there been any istances of freezing thus far? I was tempted to go higher, though I stuck with 1Ghz to be safe.

The right approach to overclocking is not how fast can you go, but how low can you tolerate? Most Droids are stable to 1.2 ghz. Some can go higher, some can't. I'm running the "stock" 1ghz kernel that comes with Sapphire rom. However, I have it choked back to 800mhz. This gives me 36 hours of battery life on light-moderate use, (3G off, wifi on) but also lag-free performance.
This is chevys 1.25 medium voltage, only reboots were with watching movies online.

The links for the kernals over at p3designs don't seem to be working for me. Does anyone have some overclocking kernels they could post?

I understand what you mean. I've done the trial between 800Mhz and 1Ghz. I have emulators now and I liked the performance on the 1Ghz more because of the speed, so I kept it on 1Ghz. I haven't had any battery drainage issue and all. I liked my low voltage 1Ghz kernal.

Is this the site you tried accessing the kernals? I did a test and downloaded the kernal zip fine.
That does sound impressive. I'm curious to try that out even more so now.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a rom that is pretty fast and smooth while having great battery life. Also any tips to get really good battery life such as processor speed and kernels etc..any opinions appreciated.
I use jaybobs aosp or cm7 with .29 kernel so I can use my headset. I use setcpu and clock 576/691 at full power then drop it if battery gets too low or raise it when I'm charging. The only way you'd extend battery life drastic is to live with a good signal and actively manage your data connections and sync.

hmm i will try it ive used cm7 and aosp but they seem to lag for me when im using the keyboard alot but ill try that kernel and see how that goes. I guess what you said about the battery life make sense cause i live in a area with pretty bad sprint service. guess i can fix that by turning off data while i plan to not use my phone thanks for your respond. Anybody else have any suggestions?
I recently just installed jaybobs rom (august 14th) like 4 days ago. I use the kernel .35 CPU=480min/710max
along with the v8 tweaks, and firerats.
As of right now my battery is 19h 29m 0s on battery at 21% battery level
Texted a lot, talked for a few minutes, update apps on market. I only use it to talk and chat cause i have a tablet that i do my surfing or gaming stuff =P

Could you send me a link to this v8 tweak? Ive never heard of it but im willing to try anything i usually get about 12 hours battery life.
I don't think the v8 helps the battery, i think it's just for performance. u should try it without it first.
heres the link to the v6 tweaks

What do you do on your phone? 12 hours is pretty good.

Well im running OMFGB August 12 nightly its one of the fastest and smoothest 2.3 rom ive ever used i havent used the aosp verion though so i dont know how smooth that one is. And i have email syncing and facebook and i use google voice a lot i mostly do texting and i keep my homescreens without any widgets that need to update a lot. i also calibrated my battery so i could get pretty decent battery life which in my opinion is 12 Hours but im still looking on ways to improve it.
ohh, i see. Yeah i know where ya comin from, I've done a lot of flashing and just decided to go with the most stable. They were all somewhat smooth but as for battery life, I've gotten the best battery with jaybobs rom.

For Battery life I would recommend extended 1900mAh batteries.
I didn't have to buy custom cover since they fit in the stock back cover.
2 batteries with external charger with shipping would cost you about $20.
I get about 2 days on a single charge with moderate use.
I am using CM7.1 nightly 160 at the moment.
If you are interested let me know I will point you towards the retailer
I bought them from on Amazon/Ebay.
Well im going to try jaybobs rom then and see how that does yesterday with OMFGB rom i got 11h 59m 2s and after that it shortly died off and im just running setcpu at 729 max 691 min performance lol i think i really need to change that if i want save battery does any one have any good setcpu profiles they would recommend? And i might look towards buying a extended battery but i dont really want to seeing as my upgrade is in december.

Well that is what killing your batteries right there
I am no expert but I will tell you what I use,
I only use 1 profile besides the main one on setCpu:
Screen On/Main: 691 max 176 min (On Demand)
Screen Off: Max 264 min 19 On Demand ( Since I dont use it for music or anything else screen off with min 19 is no issue for me)
By the I also use v6 Super Charger and V8 kernel tweaks and they do make
your phone very snappy and responsive!!
Best of luck
I recently flashed gingerbread hero deck and it's pretty nice. But, something weird I notice is that my 3g download speeds have dropped off considerably (from 1200kbps range to 600). I can't explain it. I was on aosp's 5-23 rom before. I also recently started using firerats mod. Not sure what's up.

Its the build prop that causes it. I'd use the V8 3g tweaks to see if it helps.
okay ive installed OMFGB 1.3.1 nightly 8/17 and with the V6 scirpt runs well along with the v8 and the 3g one which i cant recall the name of but everything now runs really good but im still calibrating the battery so i still have to see how that goes but so far its been good. Thanks for the tips everyone now to try out this jaybobs kernel hopefully everything will still work well.
Ok so I've had the inc s for a few days (got stolen) so now I'm using a friends inc s until I buy a new one.
Anyways.. the battery life is dissapointing on this phone, but others say its great. I had the atrix with the huge battery, and the g2x with tegra 2, so maybe I've been spoiled by them.
But I've only been able to get 3hrs 50min screen on time with this phone on the android revolution Rom + sense 3 mods. On my atrix and g2x I could get 5-6 hrs of screen on time..
Is it my Rom/kernal? If so what is the most battery efficient kernal for you?
Plz help! Please!! Haha
I find the quicksall 3.0 kernel actually has good battery life when used with Android rev hd
Thanks! Do you know how many hours or anything like that?

A full day of very high usage.
Probably two of moderate.
I would suggest setting max clock to 998 and min to 122
Thanks man. I figured out it was just the battery needing conditioning. Now everything is good.

yea dude i love that phone
I'm at 2350 on the stock Bell 2.3.6 firmware.
Rooted and debloated but no overclock.
single core
This may be a stupid question not sure im pretty well versed in android anyway quadrant standard only shows one core on system info anyone know why? Is this normal?
Mine is 2332 running SteelDroid 4.0 with not a lot of debloat done to it.

Quadrant is pretty garbage imo. I keep seeing videos on youtube of 2 phones starting quadrant at the same time, 1 phone finishing 5-10 seconds ahead of the other but still losing the benchmark #'s with most results (fps in the testing) appearing the same. If it was decent the faster phone would always get the higher benchmark, 2 phones render 1k frames, phone 1 in 10 seconds, phone 2 in 20, fps on phone 1 must be higher... etc etc I'd try maybe smartbench or glbenchmark

I've started using antutu benchmark since it breaks the score down and allows you to run custom tests

If you're looking for other benchmark apps with other numbers I found this thread where a user posted a list of benchmarks on an optimus 3d (basically same hardware as our phone) after installing an optimus 2x performance tweak. Good for the list of benchmarks and numbers for you to compare, thread is here
Hi guys,
i want to know the best rom + kernel for a long battery life in 3g with our lg p990
now i mount the last MIUI 2.4.20 + kernel etana OC with all profile setted, and in 2g i can cover all the day, remaining about 20/30 % before midnight
in 3g instead, with an intensive use, in 6 hours, the battery drain to 5/10%
i have the BB of v20q, the 725
what are your results in 3g?..wich rom you mount to reach them with?
thanks in advance
You should give one of the froyo roms a try if you want max battery life.

Temasek CM7 + Temasek kernel with voodoo sound.
1gg 21h wi-fi ON and medium usage
1 day 21hours with wifi on and medium usage? are you f**king kidding me... not in a million years stop bulls**ting please.
i dont know about wi-fi turned on, but i have been trying both misjugedtwats\temaseks kangs with etana 3.0.31 and djangos 1.3 beta 15 with spicas horsepower supersonic 10 and they both last for about 2 days, sometimes almost 3. tho i always have data turned off (unless i receive an mms) wi fi hardly ever on but i do play some games tho especialy dead space and asphalt 6
oh i was thinking, for a normal use, you can always try using it with a lower clock, i found out you can even run any hardcore game on the market on this phone at 800 mhz without any lag
also if you guys complain about battery life on o2x, you should try the optimus black, i had 1 for about a month and the battery lasts for about half of the time the o2x battery does and thats funny if you consider it has less than half the performance on an o2x plus the fact that the p970 was at stock clock and my p990 is oc'd to 1.4 ghz, but then again, i read somewhere that tegra is a lot more energy eficient than any other mobile cpu out there (idk if its true tho)
Replaced the baseband to 313 on my stock Gingerbread 2.3.4 LG 2x and the phone had still 20% left after 1 day of light use, always with 3G network coverage, no switching to 2G.
And I have WiFi, data plus GPS enabled all the time. The phone only uses these technologies if needed, no reason to manually turn them on or off.
temasek unofficial build + temasek snappy kernel
With owains 67 and spicas horse kernel I cover about 1-1,5 days(30hrs) with wifi on for 2 hours per day.. I think that's pretty good for ICS

i prefere to stay "stock" at CM7.2 + CM Kernel. CM 7.2 gives me a good performence, battery life and stability.
Update it to 20S with Lg mobile. I noticed a minor battery drain than 20Q.
I tested hundreds of custom roms/kernels and I can say that I drained at least two years of my battery life looking for the best rom/kernel which could save battery.

I tested many roms/kernels but few basebands; somebody wrote that bb doesn't impact on battery, I don't know, maybe everything does.
Here there are many developers-and-sellers who say that using their kernel you can save some percentage of your battery. But at the end of the day I want to charge the phone anyway because I want to work with it the day after; who cares of how much battery is left? maybe it is a fake problem.
After all these tests with inconsistent results I decided to stop and to keep the LG standard release: no more wasting time, no more backup-restore and no more battery drain with Clockworkmod vibrations.
