[Q] Installing CWM - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I somehow I accidentally flashed a wrong recovery image on my Note when trying to fix my internal storage not mounting. I have lost the ability to flash .zip files since this build of clockworkmod is 4.x.x. or something. Is there a way to revert back to 5.x.x. Is there a recovery.img I can download somewhere ? Thanks

Get CF root kernel, it will push latest version of CWM
find it from first link on my signature

perfect! Thanks

[Q] Froyo to GRJ22 question

Hi all,
I think I have to finally update my rooted Nexus 2.2.1 to the latest GB because the update nagging is driving me crazy :-(
So anyhow, can somebody tell me if this will work as expected (outcome should be rooted GB 2.3.4)
1. I have latest ClockworkMod Recovery installed
2. I grabbed the official update from /cache. Build.prop says it's GRJ22. Size is 89MB. The zip contains the update plus boot.img and radio.img
3. Renamed the file to update.zip and placed on root of sdcard
4. placed su.zip and fix-recovery.zip in the root of sdcard
So the plan is to reboot into recovery, flash the update.zip. Flash su.zip. Flash fix-recovery.zip and finally reboot.
The outcome should be a rooted GB 2.3.4 with all my apps and settings still present. Will this process work?
Thanks
Raf
Edit zip file and remove recovery image.
i wanna know if the wonk issue in grj22 has been solved..
anyone know?
Flash as a zip from sd, not as an update...
Thanks it worked
And special thanks to bohlool for saving my butt. Per his suggestion I removed the recovery image from the zip file prior to installing and it saved my root because the update rebooted the phone after installing it without giving me a chance to install su.zip.
Thanks again.
Raf
If you flash as a zip from SD, instead of as an update, your phone doesn't reboot...
I did just that, in CWM I selected flash zip, selected the file on SD, and confirmed. I started flashing, then rebooted once, then rebooted a second time and finally booted in the OS. Because I removed the recovery from the update, it did not reflash the recovery and I was able to reboot into CWM recovery and apply the su.zip update (and this time it did not reboot on it's own).
Btw, my GRJ22 update was 89MB vs 6MB what has been posted here as an official update.
Raf
Yeah, removing the recovery from the zip is possibly an easier way. My comment was for anyone who didn't know how to remove the recovery, our didn't feel comfortable doing it, etc...
You are welcome

I apply any update like this, full updates you need to remove image file, and partial updates, you need to remove recovery folder. This way, you will keep your recovery and can flash su and other zips later.
cheers.

[Q] How to download clockworkmod and install while offline?

Hello.
ROM manager is unable to download clokworkmod recovery. Maybe because I'm in a "sanctioned country" CUBA and I have a lot of internet restrictions from both Google and my ISP.
My question is: Can I manually download clokworkmod recovery and copy it on the SD card and have ROM manager install it?
If the answer is yes: How? and where do I find Clockworkmod for the captivate?
i897 stock 2.1.1 rooted and unlocked.
Thanks.

all rom manager does is put this zip file on your sdcard. its not needed.
just drop this on the root of your sdcard, reboot to recovery and reinstall packages twice. CWM will come up then

the one caveat to this ... make sure you have the 2e boot loader when you boot into recovery. The 2e bootloader is the stock bootloader that comes with froyo. 3e will require you to have the update packages signed, and therefore will need to downgrade to 2e before you can switch to CWM.

Wrong.
2e RECOVERY comes from firmware 2.1, which the OP stated he was on. Froyo comes with 3e recovery. Has nothing to do with bootloader, because the bootloaders are the same between eclair and Froyo.

GREAT. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
Working, one more question. I noticed three things:
1 - If I reboot to recovery again it goes into stock recovery (2e). Then I hit reinstall packages only once and ClockWorkMod comes up.
2 - If I delete the update.zip from the sd card CWM will not work.
3 - ROM Manager still says that CWM is not installed therefore is not working OK.
Is all this ok? Should I select: "Install sdcard:update.zip" while in CWM? Should I do something else?

That sounds pretty normal to me. If you are getting into CWM then thats all that really matters. The deal with ROM manager is that it doesnt work very well with our phones. But if you are trying to flash a custom ROM you can still do it without ROM Manager. However, you need to read up about the rom you want to flash because it is a slightly risky process. Its as risky as using ROM Manager and almost Russian roulette if you dont read.
But do not delete the update.zip after you install it. I dont know if it messes with the boot process of recovery mod but I do know its better to have that backup file on your SD card already if you run into a problem later on.
Don't bother with ROM manager. Its close to useless with SGS phones. Make sure your 3 botton combo works and you should be golden. Also making a jig isn't a bad idea also, just incase you do screw up and you get in a softbrick where your keycombos decide to not work.

Clockworkmod Recovery 6.0.1.2 issue - SD card not getting mounted - and solution

After upgrading my phone to CM 10 and installing ROM Manager 5.0.2.1 (which
includes Clockworkmod Recovery 6.0.1.2), I had a problem in that nothing could be
installed because the SD card was not being mounted.
There was no way of downgrading Clockworkmod Recovery because nothing would
get installed.
After numerous methods, I solved this by paying for the premium version of ROM Manager.
Once that was done, I got the option of reverting back to an earlier version of Clockworkmod Recovery from
within ROM Manager. I chose (arbitrarily) version 5.0.0.0 and now the problem has gone away.

Weird, I did the same with the free version, downgraded to 5.2.something (that I had working before) and its working correctly.
In summary: DO NOT INSTALL THE v6, usb mounting does not work... yet
CWM 6 working ok for me.I can install roms etc , but I can't mount SD to use on PC
But if you're making a backup on CWM6 and you want to restore on CWM5 it won't work. The backups in CWM6 are a lot smaller and diferent from previous vers

Actually, you can change the way that CWM recovery backs up your system so in fact maybe by changing the back up method, you can restore CWM6 back ups on CWM5. This includes difference compression methods, file type, etc
Just FYI, you don't have to buy Rom Manager Premium to downgrade your recovery image. The 'free' way would be to inject it into a kdz file and extract AP and CP binaries then flash with SFT.

[Q] CWM shows flashed zip file successfully but can't find those files in system

As stated, may I ask what is the reason that causes this? Thanks.
Maybe install TWRP or PhilZ Touch?

[Q] Recovery!

I cant seem to find a recovery .zip file that I can flash successfully. I couldn't write a .img file of philz either. I recently restored 2.3 to fix my wifi issue but now I cant flash a proper recovery. Anyone know why? or has a recovery that I could try flashing?
