When I first flashed stock 2.2 the media hub was working. I was able to preview movies and rent them via samsung. I flashed cognition and installed the apk from his bloatware pack and no dice. Its back to not working anymore. I assume that media hub version on 2.2 is different than 2.1. Does anyone have the apk for media hub from froyo?

Videos still won't work on Media Hub on captivate. The Vibrant folks got an OTA update to assist with DRMd content. We need that, methinks.

The HD video content is amazing on the captivate screen. It actually made me want to pay their high prices..... So far, I have to say the content is surprisingly there in volume.
What is different from the Media hub app in Froyo? Or is this the same and people are putting this on Eclair?
You mean, you guys got it to work after downloading a video? It works only for trailers for me.

Have not actually purchased a movie yet. I didnt realize it quit working after that.
edit: had the same problem at first, worked for trailers, downloaded fine, didn't play movie.
then I thought what off this is an attempt by att to sell the data plan? I turned off wifi and on edge it acquired the license. confirmed playing movies

Wonder why it would need to authenticate?......sometimes I hate AT&T.
well the license is definitely a samsung thing and has to do with weather you rent or buy the movie so it can be deactivated after 24 when you rent it. I don't know of a reason to only allow the license over cellular, other than to maybe verify with att that you are using a galaxy s device and haven't ported the apk over to another device. or maybe att gets a piece of the pie, and using there network helps them tally it all up.
also you know how att likes to tell you if you use x feature on a phone you purchase we want to add this to your bill. for instance att has data plans that allow tethering that are very expensive, if don't know if they force these plans on phones that support tethering, as far as I know you can't buy such a phone from att. also if you have a smart phone you cant exclude data from your plan unless you have never bought a smartphone from att and you buy the phone outright and make sure smartphone exclusion is on you're plan. just like the unlimited data plan once you get rid of smartphone exclusion you can't get it back as fast as I know, and the network detects the device you are using.
just there way of saying if you want the service you gotta pay us even if we have nothing to do with the service I are getting. its not right but that's what they can do if you sign a contract.
we won't know if its att specific unless we go over to another forum and see what the epic guy are talking about.

I own an Evo 4G with Froyo. A friend of mine has a Captivate. I love the Music Player app that comes bundled with it and would love to get it on my phone.
With the 2.2 Captivate beta in the wild, has anyone extracted the MusicPlayer apk so it can be installed on other devices? Just curious.
(Note: I have a fully rooted Evo).
I don't know how well it would work for you. I think its pretty TouchWiz dependent. But you're welcome to try. Here it is.

Don't be thrown off by the link, its just a shortened URL to my dropbox account.

Hi there. I was just curious as to what music app you can call your main on your Xoom? Is it the stock music app or something else?
Personally my main music app is PowerAMP Premium. It has a sleek interface, many options to configure, a built in equalizer that just makes the songs sound fantastic, an auto download of album art feature, and it allows you to go through your music by the folders you have them in rather than just by album or artist only. It can't get much better than that in my opinion. I only wish it had visualizations much like windows media player on a desktop. Come to think of it... I don't think I have seen a music app on the market that has music visualizations built into it. Is there a such thing right now?
So do you have another music app as your main? Or do you have the same one like I do? Share with us.
poweramp is definitely the must have music app for anyone who loves listening to music on their xoom so many features its worth the money
Personally I use Subsonic on every Android device I own.
Winamp is not bad for free. Album art grabber work's pretty well too

Fully agree. Have all my music on my computer anywhere in the world is just too good. If Google does eventually release their cloud service I may switch, but subsonic is just BOSS. I wouldn't recommended it to any not tech user but this is xda...

Mort player its in beta but its good try it out and I know for a paid app power amp works awesome don't know if its compatible with the xoom should be.

I got 20gb from Amazon, so I just uploaded all my music to the cloud and I'm using their cloudplayer. Works nicely, although it did take a few days for me to upload 18gigs of music. I don't have much of an upload speed :-/
Maybe it's just me, but I'm really digging the tablet music app. On my Nexus One I use PlayerPro.
I really don't use the Xoom for music anyways. I did add about 8 or 9 gb of my favorite music but so far, I hardly make use of it. Only time I listen to music is in my car (Nexus One to car stereo), or when I'm in my home office.
Definitely Audiogalaxy. It allows me to stream any of the 7,500+ music files (mostly FLAC) on my home PC to any of my android devices.
been using amazon cloud player on my xoom, easy way to keep most of my library accessible to me no matter where I am. right now I have like 8GB of songs on amazon cloud player, but even so I primarily use my Zune HD and zune pass for most of my music.
If you want a really cool and unique looking app check out cube (superscript 3) It has a very interesting UI and some neat add-ons like new releases and local live shows from artists in your library. But I also have the paid PowerAMP app

how about this... I would like to upload all my music to my website/FTPsite, is there a good app that will stream the music from there?
Pandora for me... I don't have much of a music collection
Power Amp fo sho! Well worth the money!
So far so good! Lots of good opinions and lots of good options. Some are using PowerAMP, some use a syncing method from computer to device, while others don't have much music and just stream from the internet. Good stuff! Keep 'em coming!
On a side note I do love to stream internet radio all the time. My app of choice for streaming Shoutcast stations is called XiiaLive, which was formerly know as DroidLive. I like the feel and look of it. I heard someone say Pandora as well... gotta love the Pandora!

What about subsonic? I havent tested it on a xoom but would be nice if someone tried it, you basically turn your pc into the server and your phone can access any songs in the library over a network connection 3G/wifi

Be careful with Pandora. They harvest and sell personal data:
http://socialtimes.com/pandora-under-investigation-for-sharing-your-personal-information_b55812
Im using Rhapsody. $15 a month unlimited music, 3 mobile devices authorized, (I use it on my OG Droid too) and it shares the library with those devices, and PC. You can download your playlists for offline playback which is great since I don't pay for 3G service on Xoom. Has radio playlists but probably not as good as pandora, but it doesn't steal your identity.
I was using Zunepass, but since this is my main device especially in my car, Zune has become irrelevant. Zune has nicer software, but doesn't have the library media mirroring like Rhapsody.
Not to mention there's no way to use it on an android device.
Since I too own very little music, rental services are great. I got scared by illegal downloads back when my University started identifying students to the RIAA (down and up speeds were unreal on campus, esp. after hours, they eventually capped them after I left) and they were being sued for $3000 per song! I figured the risk wasn't worth the reward.

I have a samsung car dock but Im unable to get sound from music to my truck speakers. I am able to get calls to the speakers though. If I undock it, I can use the 3.5mm jack and listen. Ive tried using different music players including google music beta. Anyone have this same issue or is there a fix for this? Id really love to use my google music and car dock at the same time.
You need a custom kernel. Xcal's kernals all have it working. Look in the development section.

Have you tried 'Dock Sound Redirector' in the Android Market? I've not tried it with a car dock but it works good with the desk dock. Phone needs to be rooted tho I imagine if you're in these forums that's probably a gimme ;-)

yup, rooted Im running Serendipity 7, the gingerbread rom. (and I freakin love it!)
Dock Sound Redirector worked. Im still going to look at some xcal kernels, just to have it built in. But the Dock Sound Redirector worked seamlessly. Very pleased with its performance so far.
I was almost upset that I would not get to beta google music. Now its usable
Yeah, a kernal change may/will probably fix the problem as well, the 'redirector' is just a quick easy fix. Glad it worked for you
I thought this was a good question because, after i got my Droid i saw little to no use for the Ipod touch, i just wanna see how the rest of the community feels on it.
If the battery life wasn't so terrible on my D3 here, my ipod would be almost obsolete, however, the ipod is a fantastic mp3 player, and having a 64gig touch, that's quite a bit more space purely for music than what I can get on my droid. Also, I am subscribed to some podcasts, and I haven't found a good podcast app for android yet, so, my ipod touch will still see a lot of use from me. I also have an old 160gig classic ipod, and nothin is gonna touch the storage on that thing for a while.

I used my iPod Touch with my rooted wifi tether on Droid Eris because the internet seemed faster via wifi than it did on the phone, but I haven't picked it up once since I've had the Droid 3.

Get Doggcatcher. You can download and stream podcasts, it remembers your progress if you have to stop in the middle and come back a few days later, etc. Very full featured.
We have two of them and they both collect dust to be honest my wife and myself dont want to carry a phone an ipod and such.
Google Music makes stand-alone mp3 players obsolete. That's what I use. I have my entire music library on my phone without having the actual files take up space on my phone. Of course, if you have a poor or no signal, it doesn't quite work. But you can cache playlists and songs if you want to have things available offline.
I used to have an ipod touch until I got Google Music on my Inc.

I use it just for music now. No other use for it.
no, but the one thing Droid is missing is something like iTunes to sync / buy music. I know there are programs out there (I use iSyncr) that work fine, but it would be nice to have something built in.

...and nothing of value was lost.
Can't say I ever had an iTouch, but I do have (far too many) other devices. On the music front, I'm actually transitioning away form using my Droid du Jour as my default music player. More and more I find myself wanting physical, tactile controls. I've tried -- for years -- to find a dedicated Bluetooth AVRCP remote, but the closest I've found is overpriced A2DP pendants with crap battery life and terrible controls. Add the fickle hand of battery life, and I find myself reaching for the finest MP(3/4/5) player China can produce.
