Please forgive my ignorance, I'm completely new to the Android world. Has anyone been able to root a tab to allow Wii controller access?
Searched multiple forums but could not find a definitive answer.
Thanks!
I've rooted mine, and actually thought about trying the wiimote app again. (I used it on my Nexus 1)
I'll give it a shot...
It doesn't work. I'm guessing for the same reason the Galaxy S phones won't work with it either, the bluetooth isn't compatible.
I confirm also that it doesn't work. I've tried 2 different wii controller apps. And my galaxy is rooted. It just won't sync.
Yeah I tried em both also. I'm sure the BT hardware is the same on the Tab and the SGS phones, and they don't work either. I was very disapointed when I couldn't use this after switching from my N1 to my Captivate.
10-4 thanks for giving it a shot.
One of the developers of one of the apps says it's to do with TouchWiz. Sounds more likely to be a software issue than a hardware blutooth issue, which means it could be fixed or hacked Hope!
similar issues on my T-Mobile tablet; I tried to connect a Wii controller to my tab and the wiimote app keeps telling me to enable bluetooth.
i can confirm it works well on archos 101 but not on tmo gtab
im hoping they patch this im looking forward to using it for gaming

Me to, with a hdmi out cable and a couple of wii controllers. The tab could be a neat little mini mobile gaming system. Hopefully with 2.3 or 3.0 we'll get that support. But then again I don't even know if the hardware can support a wiimote.

Any news on this? I was really hoping to play mario on my galaxy tab? : (
Anyone know of any other controller for android?
I also still waiting on some news.
Having brought Snes,Nes,Gba, psx emulators on my tab I dieing for some news.
I thought is was do to with the bluetooth stack used by Sammy?
Yes, I believe you are right about the bluetooth stack. I think our most likely option right now is to wait for the cyanogen roms to be completed for our tabs.

I wonder if it's possible to change the one that's used in a stock ROM...

Would like this to happen also.
I poked around with the Wiimote and the Tab last night and it looks like L2CAP support is needed in the kernel before this will work. I haven't built a kernel for an android device yet, so I'll leave it to the chefs to build it in.

Yes Please do!
I hope we can alter what ever needs to be altered in order to uses a WiiMote with the Samsung Tab.
Seeing that the Dell streak 7 doesn't have Hdmi out, this tablet still really is my only chance of having real Gaming emulation on the go without adding much bulk!
This app works in a very similar way to DSP manager except this can go much louder!
This application is priced at £1.25 on the Android Market but is (and always will be) available for free on here and on my website.
Android Market Link
It currently includes a Speaker Volume Boost and a Bass Enhancer, with more features planned.
Due to the fact that different mobile companies make different quality speakers, this app with sound very different depending on the phone it's being used on. For example, it sounds pretty bad on the Nexus One because the Nexus has a terrible speaker. It might sound better on other phones, i dunno.
The regular Disclaimer applies (see app discription, or disclaimer in the app).
Enjoy
I'll give this a run with the Droid X on GB and let you know the results.
it says all phones but does it work with lg p500 ?
How About a NC?
Anyone know / tried this on a Nook Color running CM7?
It should work on all phones which are running Gingerbread (2.3)
Does it need Root-Access?
I'll have to test this out. Thanks
Sounds great
Is there any risk of outwearing ones' speaker using this kind of apps?
Maybe there is no instant sign of it, but in time it might just get noticeable..
Does anyone have experience with this?
give it a try later..
Amazing on Inspire 4G!
using this on nscolab with voodoo sound and it works great !!! so much louder however anything above +3 comes out distorted like hell but even +3 is well loud !
HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT

I was hoping this would increase the volume of movies played with Rockplayer through headphones for when I am on the tube, alas it does not, any chance of this being sorted? Nexus s i9023 2.3.4 with latest version of Rockplayer.
How much can you really do with the same hardware?
The best speakers I have had is the Motorola e398.
Stereo speakers and simulated sub.
Truly awesome with VooDoo... love all the little tweaks and effects, really imporoves the sound
Oh yes!
It works for Motorola Defy whit CyanogenMod 7 Beta 6 (Android 2.3.4)
My ear's are bleeding

Indeed. Since the Inspire normally has subpar volume, this app fixes the problem and offers more juice than what I needed. Perfect for those important alarms I need to respond too.
Doesn't work on Droid X GB. Would've been nice but oh well.
I'll try it later ^^
HAs anyone tried using their KFHD as a phone yet? I have been really tossing around the idea of just using my tablet as a phone and was wondering if its possible on the KFHD? I have done research on other tablets using clients like Groove iP, Google Voice, Talkatone etc. I thought I saw someone asking for a apk for Viber on here awhile ago but cant seem to find it anywhere. Thanks in advance!

Yes. Just made a call a few minutes ago, actually. I'm using Groove IP linked to my Google Voice account. Working great. I haven't attempted a bluetooth headset or anything like that though yet. I'm using an ancient ass microphone with Speakerphone on.

The connection is quite clear, but a bit quiet. That's with the volume turned up full blast, too. Haven't had any issues otherwise. You'd definitely want to invest in the headphone route. Haven't tried them myself, though.
So, we've heard and seen about the IR and remote controller function, but I didn't exactly understand it. Is it going to work with only smart TVs? I mean can we just use it as a normal, universal remote controller?

I don't think it is a small feature. That means that with the Right soft (understand app) you can virtually have the equivalent to a harmony universal remote control to master all your IR devices such as TV bluray home theater. I have an harmony and its awesome. Getting old though.

I would like to know how to access the IR port for app development .. got some ideas for some cool applications for that IR Blaster
AW: [Q] HTC One Remote Controller function
Already tested it and it works fine.
For most devices there are preconfigired setups. If your device is not listed, you can "teach" the phone by holding original remote to the power button and by pressing any button on remote.
Sadly the set of buttons is limited (only most common buttons available)

HTC released an SDK for that IR port even before the phone was out. Google it and bring us some nice apps!

I am planning to develop IR apps for RC Car and alarm remote for a real car Of course I need a device first for testing.
If only they could have put the IR port just beside the camera I could have made something alot more better hahaha!

Bigger hint: The App is called "TV" in the App drawer!
Have to say i'm quite impressed with it, i thought it was just a bit gimmicky but after trying it out it's quite good.
My 8 year old son was very impressed with it...."woah mum, dad's phone can turn the TV over!"......the wife wasn't impressed at all
Can't wait to get back to work in a few weeks and start p***ing the lads in the canteen off by turning the TV over!
Great thing is, that SGS4 also have IR sensor.
So we can expect some nice apps in near future and another devices with such functionality.
Back to the roots, earlier each phone had IR (ok not same like now)
Oh my. This feature is epic.
For Virgin Media users dont select your cable box as Tivo, it doesn't work select Virgin Media in the option.
Its Epic. EPIC EPIC.
I can't get it to work with my Sharp tv. The auto setup fails and when I try to get it to learn from my existing remote it will learn some buttons but not others. So I can mute the tv, but not unmute it. None of the numbers work, but the volume controls do.
Has anyone got any ideas? Would be awesome to get it all up and running.

You can try to teach your phone from a universal remote that works on our TV.
Well the -Vol button on my Denon DAB Hi-Fi remote in my office has just died so this new phone can't come at a better time.
Same for me, The work TV remote is literally in three pieces on the table after someone destroyed it this week.
I hope other people are having this issue, and not just me. Here is the pertinent information:
PHONE: Samsung Galaxy S6 G920T, ANdroid 5.1.1, T-Mobile
CAR: 2015 Honda Civic SE
ISSUE 1:
Bluetooth quality seems to fluctuate between "high" quality and low quality. I realize SBC can only achieve so much, but it seems that frequently it switches to something lower than that, and the audio sounds like crap for a minute or two, then switches back to higher quality.
ISSUE 2:
When I connect my phone to my car, calls work fine. Music playback works fine (aside from issue 1). What doesn't seems to work at all is the phone sending track metadata to my car. Instead, it reads back "no title, no album, no artist". It reports being connected to my phone. The funny thing is that this feature DOES work with, and only with, Samsung's Music app. Not Google Play Music, not Spotify, not Plex, not even Milk. It seems that Samsung Music is somehow taking priority on what gets sent for track metadata, and when you are playing something in another player, Music is playing nothing, hence the "no title, no album, no artist" stuff.
Anyone having these issues? I have been lead to believe that Samsung is using the newest and greatest Bluetooth protocols, possibly leading to backwards incompatibility, which would be very unfortunate. Samsung is, of course, playing ignorant, sticking their heads in the sand, insisting that I exchange my phone for a new one, but I've read other people having these problems on other forums, so, I dunno. Anyone able to pitch in?
I've seen the same thing regarding metadata. I've not had the problem with audio quality though.

No kidding? You get track information too?
Also using 5.02 here. My guess is that it has to do with the Bluetooth version on my car radio (factory 2012 Mazda 3 radio). Newer Bluetooth versions are supposed to be backwards compatible, but it seems that there are glitches. I've seen lots of threads around the internet discussing these problems.

I have seen them too. I wish there were an easy way to inform manufacturers about these things, instead of us just talking about the issues among ourselves. Samsung support simply told me that my device is defective and that I should exchange it with my carrier, which will probably put me back in the same boat.

Can you verify that the built-in Samsung Music app transmits this information properly? That seems to be the case with me, leading me to believe, actually, that the metadata issue is not necessarily related to a Bluetooth incompatibility.

Goodness, we've got quite the varying combination of tech here >_<
So, I just checked out my phone with my boss's 2014 Ford Fusion, and it worked just fine. Judging by that and the compatibility with your 2011 Toyota Corolla, @serio22, it seems to be an incompatibility with my Honda, which I can hopefully get resolved with the dealer. If not, I will be very sad D:
I've tried to get my setup fixed through my dealer, but they were unable to do anything. I've resigned myself to having to get a new radio if I want all of the Bluetooth functionality working correctly. In my case things are a bit worse because the Bluetooth sometimes fails to connect or may disconnect without apparent cause (much worse with Pandora than anything else). I'll try using the Samsung app to see if it works, though I just froze the thing today to see if that helps with some of my other problems.
Sent from my SM-G920T using XDA Premium HD app
I've had issues with my S6's Bluetooth in two cars. Both are VWs, with essentially the same radio, but one was a 2013, and one a 2015. In both cars, my Bluetooth media will occasionally pause on its own for a few seconds, then resume play, then speed up for a few seconds before slowing back down to normal playback speed. It's been happening across multiple apps, with both downloaded and streaming audio. Doesn't happen when I use speed headphones or listen through the phone's speaker.
I do get track metadata on my car radio from Pocket Casts and Google Play Music, but not from Pandora.
I've also switched ROMs to see if that was the issue. I was using OZOP versions 1 & 2, and am now on XtreStoLite 1.5, and that hasn't made a difference. I don't remember if it happened on pure unrooted stock during the time before I rooted my device, so it still could be a ROM issue, I suppose.
I had the problem with and without root; I don't think it makes a difference. I froze the Samsung Music app and that has helped my phone automatically play music in my car after connecting to the radio, so that is an improvement. However, still no metadata and still getting glitchy controls (press pause and it skips forward in a song rather than pausing; have to double-tap).
