I hope other people are having this issue, and not just me. Here is the pertinent information:
PHONE: Samsung Galaxy S6 G920T, ANdroid 5.1.1, T-Mobile
CAR: 2015 Honda Civic SE
ISSUE 1:
Bluetooth quality seems to fluctuate between "high" quality and low quality. I realize SBC can only achieve so much, but it seems that frequently it switches to something lower than that, and the audio sounds like crap for a minute or two, then switches back to higher quality.
ISSUE 2:
When I connect my phone to my car, calls work fine. Music playback works fine (aside from issue 1). What doesn't seems to work at all is the phone sending track metadata to my car. Instead, it reads back "no title, no album, no artist". It reports being connected to my phone. The funny thing is that this feature DOES work with, and only with, Samsung's Music app. Not Google Play Music, not Spotify, not Plex, not even Milk. It seems that Samsung Music is somehow taking priority on what gets sent for track metadata, and when you are playing something in another player, Music is playing nothing, hence the "no title, no album, no artist" stuff.
Anyone having these issues? I have been lead to believe that Samsung is using the newest and greatest Bluetooth protocols, possibly leading to backwards incompatibility, which would be very unfortunate. Samsung is, of course, playing ignorant, sticking their heads in the sand, insisting that I exchange my phone for a new one, but I've read other people having these problems on other forums, so, I dunno. Anyone able to pitch in?
I've seen the same thing regarding metadata. I've not had the problem with audio quality though.

No kidding? You get track information too?
Also using 5.02 here. My guess is that it has to do with the Bluetooth version on my car radio (factory 2012 Mazda 3 radio). Newer Bluetooth versions are supposed to be backwards compatible, but it seems that there are glitches. I've seen lots of threads around the internet discussing these problems.

I have seen them too. I wish there were an easy way to inform manufacturers about these things, instead of us just talking about the issues among ourselves. Samsung support simply told me that my device is defective and that I should exchange it with my carrier, which will probably put me back in the same boat.

Can you verify that the built-in Samsung Music app transmits this information properly? That seems to be the case with me, leading me to believe, actually, that the metadata issue is not necessarily related to a Bluetooth incompatibility.

Goodness, we've got quite the varying combination of tech here >_<
So, I just checked out my phone with my boss's 2014 Ford Fusion, and it worked just fine. Judging by that and the compatibility with your 2011 Toyota Corolla, @serio22, it seems to be an incompatibility with my Honda, which I can hopefully get resolved with the dealer. If not, I will be very sad D:
I've tried to get my setup fixed through my dealer, but they were unable to do anything. I've resigned myself to having to get a new radio if I want all of the Bluetooth functionality working correctly. In my case things are a bit worse because the Bluetooth sometimes fails to connect or may disconnect without apparent cause (much worse with Pandora than anything else). I'll try using the Samsung app to see if it works, though I just froze the thing today to see if that helps with some of my other problems.
Sent from my SM-G920T using XDA Premium HD app
I've had issues with my S6's Bluetooth in two cars. Both are VWs, with essentially the same radio, but one was a 2013, and one a 2015. In both cars, my Bluetooth media will occasionally pause on its own for a few seconds, then resume play, then speed up for a few seconds before slowing back down to normal playback speed. It's been happening across multiple apps, with both downloaded and streaming audio. Doesn't happen when I use speed headphones or listen through the phone's speaker.
I do get track metadata on my car radio from Pocket Casts and Google Play Music, but not from Pandora.
I've also switched ROMs to see if that was the issue. I was using OZOP versions 1 & 2, and am now on XtreStoLite 1.5, and that hasn't made a difference. I don't remember if it happened on pure unrooted stock during the time before I rooted my device, so it still could be a ROM issue, I suppose.
I had the problem with and without root; I don't think it makes a difference. I froze the Samsung Music app and that has helped my phone automatically play music in my car after connecting to the radio, so that is an improvement. However, still no metadata and still getting glitchy controls (press pause and it skips forward in a song rather than pausing; have to double-tap).

The original galaxy s has the ability to transmit and receive fm radio. I also know that the vibrant has the exact and chip but lacks the drivers. If we can get the ffc to work by actually adding new hardware then we should definitely be able to get hardware that's already on the phone working. The question is, of, there a dev that's, willing to do this?

Indeed.
A bit hard to find, due to "fm" being too short. But it is right there on the 3rd page of search results for "fm radio."

I assume you are being facetious?
Lets say you are not:
There are areas with poor data coverage.
FM Radio uses lets battery than streaming.
Not all stations streams.
Streams often fall off for no reason even on a computer with a high speed connection.
Gyms broadcast tv sound via radio.
TuneIN radio is buggy as hell.
I could go on, but since you couldn't possibly be serious in your question and also non-retarded enough to understand an answer, I won't.

I am perfectly serious but in a way that would not be considered aggressive, rude or of assuming nature here is my experience and general thoughts.
I have had 0 issues at all with Tune In. I have not found a single radio station in my area I couldn't grab a stream including the AM channels for the sports people. In my city data coverage is a non issue. I have had perfectly good experience with this and threw it out there to help as this topic has already been covered although in length for those that haven't searched. I am still curious about the battery comparison though. Where did you get that information? I have had great battery life experience but haven't jacked with any radio devices on any of my cellphones. As far as gym's broadcasting TV stations via radio that is a huge advantage. I hate the treadmill and bang my cardio outside which is why I like tune in for the AM in case there is a game on. I would never listen to anything TV related in the weight room as I am always there early am or later in the evening and not really a tv person anyway expect for sports anyway. Just my .02 cents.
I hope this alternative will help some people.

Well, yes, its true that you can get a lot of stations streamed via internet, but the thing that most of us really want, that absolutely needs fm radi working, is the FM radio transmitter. What that will let you do is play a song from your phone and transmit it through and FM radio band you choose. That way, if you dont feel like listening to music on your crappy phone speakers while driving, you can listen to them on your cars nice speakers.

If you have an aux in on your radio, you could connect your phone to that. I'm using a blackberry audio gateway with my car and it works great. Some newer car radios have bluetooth built in. FM is super crowded here and transmitters just don't work well.
Would like it for the rare times I use it.
Pandora used to be great and reliable and for the past few weeks it stops playing songs and skips whenever it wants. I have not done the latest update based off of reviews. Does anyone else have this issue and can anyone suggest a similar app?
yeah, Pandora has been messy as of late (really disappointing to be honest), but there's an alternative app that isn't as "streamlined" in my opinion called "Slacker Radio" which I've tried that doesn't seem to have this issue. But I personally think the interface is poorly designed and not as good a selection in my tastes.
When it works, it works fine. Maybe its there way of getting you to purchase pandora but at this rate if this is how they are going after android users, well then screw them! It works perfectly on my wifes iphone.

Slacker is good for things like listening to comedy routines, its great for long road trips. I prefer pandora for finding new music or hearing a random playlist of songs I love but haven't heard in a long time. I've used pandora for years, I have faith in their devs, they'll fix whatever problems arise. Don't give up!
Pandora has been really crappy so I switched to slacker, it's been pretty good so far.

Yeah, a kernal change may/will probably fix the problem as well, the 'redirector' is just a quick easy fix. Glad it worked for you
Please use this thread for General Discussion and Q&A. To much clutter is happening in the main thread and bug reports are being missed.
There probably wont be to much dev activity in this thread, this is more for the general users.
I have to say....this lends great (new) life to the nook color. It is smooth and quick. Better then any GB or ICS ROM I have tried. Deep sleep works, and it reconnects to wifi when it wakes up.
I also kinda like one of the bugs. The N button won't wake the Nook from a deep sleep. I have on a number of occasions killed the battery when the N button gets pushed as my NC is carried in a bag.
Not sure if I was a part of the thread derail so reposting here:
Seeing what people mean by slow charging. I usually plug in via a power strip, now giving a direct connection to see if this makes a difference because I seem to recall this being the cause of a similar issue in the past. Will report if makes any difference...

Guys, I feel like I'm missing something stupid but I can't play any video. I installed "Google Play Movies and TV" and MX Player and even the MX Player Arm7 Codec plugin. No videos play. If i go to "Personal Videos" in the "Google Play Movies and TV" app and click on a video I could previously play it brings up a dialog asking me which app I'd like to play the video in, "MX Player" or "Gallery Video Player" and doesn't just play it. GTA III doesn't work either which I suspect is related. Is this related to the lack of OpenGL that makes Chrome not work? Doesn't seem like anybody else is having the problem. Almost seems like I don't have some basic video driver not installed. any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've been playing AVIs and WMVs from my SD card, and they look great using MX Player Pro with the ARM 7 NEON codec.
Maybe you should try opening the videos directly from MX Player.
I actually tried to play with MX Player but nothing going, then checked the settings a bit more thoroughly. Apparently neither SW or HW decoding is enabled by default. Seems a bizarre choice of defaults but also seems that the Nook Color should have some sort of native ability to play these files (participialy the MP4 ones). In my googling to fix this problem I read that there actually is no way to HW decode play (don't' think i'm using those terms correctly) MKV files and that SW decoding will have to be used and it'll be laggy, which it appears to be. So looks like I'll have to re-encode some videos before my trip tomorrow. Still seems like something is off with my install and still contemplating moving back to CM9 stable. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Also, may want to try the VLC Nightlies if your standard players aren't working for you. It has magic in the juju.
Does the build support USB OTG yet, as I kinda have this keyboard case for a seven inch tablet I want to try.

Netflix.
What is exactly holding back CM9/10 from getting this app working? CM7 is flying and Netflix works perfectly. I know we needed hardware acceleration, but that seems to be working again so I'm curious why Netflix is still not working. Is there some bug with just this app? Is there a bug with hardware acceleration?
Are developers just not interested in the app so work isn't done to get it working? I flashed back to CM7 after being on CM9 for far too long hoping it would be just around the corner but it never came. So I'm curious if Netflix is a possibility at all or is it just wishful thinking?
I don't mean to be an entitled newb by any means. I just want to set my own expectations. If it's never going to come, then just tell me and I can put my little mind to rest and be happy with CM7.
Thanks for not killing me.
It was fixed and then some other fix broke the fix. I believe its just waiting on a fix for the fix to be pushed to fix it.
Anyway, I've used PlayOn or Plex to play Netflix on just about any device indirectly, this shouldn't be any different to use as an intermediary. Still kinda want the usb keyboard to work, is there a patchable fix or something I can do to the source?

Ok - I have been using mod7 for a while. When they got accellerated video playback working - (seeing the beta 1) I thought I would give it a try.
Wow.
Very nice.
But - I do get SOD (what does that stand for? Screen of death?) (when it goes into sleep - it rarely comes out... - using both the volume and n button.)
But - my main issue is youtube doesn't play. I get a blank video - it almost seems like the video has 0 lenght. You hit play - it doesn't do anything. If you go to full screen - it pauses 'loading video' then flashes back to the windowed player screen. I installed adobe flash from instructions here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1774336
and still no go. I also reset the machine to factory defaults..
what am I missing?

Now that Android N final has been released, I'm getting random stutters and cutouts using Android Auto and Google Play Music. I've a Skoda Fabia 2015.
Is anyone else experience this issue?
If you are, please can you comment on this issue or star it. http://goo.gl/R65XNP
Hopefully this will help it get fixed quickly.
Actually, I am thinking the opposite. With my Nexus 6p running stock android 6, it was working fine for the most part with just little problems I have posted on here like refusing to read texts etc. But then for no reason it would just switch back to working fine again without me having done anything at all!?
Now I have upgraded my phone to android 7, it seems to be behaving perfectly so far. Maybe there has never been any problems with android auto software then and has just been our phones that are the problem. Even "pure" Nexus phones.

P.s. Does anyone know if there is some technical reason why android auto can't just be baked into android OS? Then we could just plug our phones in and it would just work without having to download another app. Like an iPhone works with car play.

I too have a similar audio issue to exactly what you describe. Fortunately for me, it seems to only happen for a specific podcast every week after about 25 min of play time. Starred the issue anyway. Looking to get the logs and bug report when I can replicate.
Well the reason it isn't baked into Android is the same reason why all Android apps aren't baked it. Google deliberately keeps them separately in order to update them quicker. Plus if it was baked in then older devices wouldn't be able to use it either since they would have to wait for a software update that most likely wouldn't happen.

Thanks. That makes sense and you are right of course. Guess I am just jealous of my girlfriend as she just plugs in her iPhone to my car and car play not only works immediately, but works perfectly without having to visit a forum like this for solutions and/or workarounds!
Having said that, after updating my Nexus to android 7.0, I am finding android auto much more reliable...

So since I upgraded to N with my 5x, my phone decides to start playing music (sometimes) over the phone speaker instead of my car. I am using an aftermarket unit, the pioneer avh-8700bt (that's the same as 4100NEX in the US I think) and a rooted ROM.
Before on MM that literally never happened. I am using Spotify for playback, when looking at the BT settings, my phone seems to have trouble keeping the media BT connection. It always displays "BT connected - instead audio".
Relly strange...
