I'm considering buying a Galaxy Tab (wifi version, not from Verizon store) and I'm wondering if anyone has any useful thoughts as to pros/cons of buying one this way. I would like to have wireless coverage without relying on wifi but I can't justify the additional $40.00 a month Verizon wants to add a device to the account. I just won't use it that much. Although if it is possible to activate it and sign in to my account I'm up for that!
Here are the specs of the one I'm looking at ...
Android Honeycomb 3.1
Dual Core Tegra 2 processor, 1GB RAM
Wi-FiTM, 802.11 a/b/g/n 2.4GHz, 5GHz
Memory Capacity: 32GB
Display: 10.1" WXGA (1280x800)
I would want to root and flash a Gingerbread rom. Can it be tethered via bluetooth or would I have to use wired tethering to my rooted phone?
Thanks

Does anyone know if the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" wifi only has the same CPU/GPU as the 7" 3G version?
I keep seeing users saying the wifi only has a different GPU and that is why it cost less?
Anyone? I've been thinking about buying one..
No. The wifi version is gimped. Has a weaker gpu and CPU. If I were you, I would look for the 3g version even if you might never intend to use 3g because of the prices you can get them for nowadays.
I got me and Verizon model on Craigslist for 200 and it was in mint condition. Love it.

Sorry but is this entire section for the SGT 10.1 or the original SGT or both? Sorry if that comes off as idiotic but I've saw threads and posts for both.

I was guessing this was for the 7" tab since there is a 10.1 tab section.
Why did samsung gimp the wifi only version? just for the price? I wonder if they are about to come out with a new 7" tab?
Hi guys,
I've been eying the original Samsung tab7 (P1000) International unlocked version for quite a while now; the reasons being able to use it as a phone with a SIM card and connect to internet with 3G. (I believe ATT version does both, but Tmobile has disabled the voice abilities).
Anyway, it's selling on Amazon for $480-$500; is it worth it? Or is smart to wait for Asus Eee Pad Memo that's due in January? All help is greatly appreciated!

I love my tab, but that's a terrible deal. For that price range, look at some of the other options like the 7.0 plus or 8.9.
Edit: just noticed the 3g/voice needs. nevermind what I said.

Thank you, all for your suggestions! I wish we had more choice of 7 inch tablets that are capable of phone calls, like Samsung GT7 and Viewsonic Vpad7...
Hi gents,
I am offered to buy a HP Touchpad 4G 32GB tablet, based on the Snapdragon 1.5 GHz dual core, etc...
In my humble (and uneducated) opinion it should be at least as good as the plain vanilla 32GB Touchpad, and probably even better, thinking that his hart is ticking at 1.5GHz.
It is SIM locked on AT&T, is there any way to be unlocked?
Is there any reason to steer away from it?
Thanks,
Sorin
Dont know abt 4g part......
but the spec is same as any other tp...all touchpads are built to work perfectly on 1.5 ghz...actually most people have Over clocked their tp to 1.5ghz..both in android and webos...some people have OCed to 1.9ghz without any issue...so u r good to go there....
You may want to do some checking in the forums as I recall seeing folks having issues with the Android ports on the 4G models as the main board is a bit different.
Thanks for the answers. I already bought a TP WiFi ( it is on his way from Las Vegas to Cyprus ) and I was tempted to grab this 4G as well. I also found a snow white 64 GB TP, but they ask for that some 600 USD, which IMHO is straight too much, so I will pass that 64GB TP.
Pity about the 4G, it sounded nice
Cant wait to get mine. Already ordered it. Had the same dilemma as you. Went for the WiFi only version cause 64GB was a little excessive.
However the WiFi version is a steal cause you can get a MIFI and be connected all the time. Yay....
Currently with Sprint and am thinking about going back to a dumb phone and picking up an Android Table in it's place.
Sprint's selection of Android Tablets seems very very limited. Is the Galaxy Tab (not the 10.1) still the best option available?
Are there any upcoming tablets worth waiting for?
Tablet's is a new area for me so any information is greatly appreciated.
Edit: Also what are the 3G plans like? Just wondering if they are reasonable enough to switch to cheaper dumb phone plan + tablet plan.
That's what I did. Do groovie IP and that turned my tablet into a phone.Just use Bluetooth. As for plans.just depends on how good ypour signal is.Mine was crap so just use mine on wifi. no there not getting any new tablets soon

I hear the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (i think that's the name) will arrive soon. If I recall right, it has a dual-core 1Ghz CPU and 1GB of RAM (double that of the normal Galaxy Tab)
I've been playing with the idea of ditching my ipod touch and buying an unlocked/no contract android phone to use like an iTouch, with wifi. For under 300 dollars what is the best phone I could get? I've been looking at the atrix or atrix 2 as possible options. I would like whatever I get to have an active dev community behind it because I would like to get into rooting/romming.
I would like what I get to have 1gb of ram as well as a dual core chip, if possible. What suggestions can you all offer?
Thanks!

A used Nexus S and a new battery from someone upgrading to the Galaxy Nexus. It is also promised to get the official ICS build.
Josh-
You could get a galaxy s2 or the skyrocket which both have lots of support.
Atrix 4g is a pretty good option too with the laptop dock accessory
Well the nexus s is only single-core/512mb RAM and the S2/Skyrocket are well over 300 new and even over that in used condition. Thanks for the suggestions, though.
