Bricked! Low battery! Cant flash! - Motorola Droid Bionic

Well im not exactly sure what to do now at this point. The phones battery is dead and when I plug it in I cant do squat other than see the white LED light then the dual core splash screen.
Im rooted and had theory rom on the phone but I wanted to go back to stock unrooted. I followed some instructions but it didnt work. When it restarted after flashing is just stuck at the dual core screen. Now im stuck with a dead battery so I cant flash it anymore.
What is the next step for me to take? ive read up about a factory cable that will let me boot into fastboot.
Sucks that I dont know anyone else with a Bionic so I can get my battery charged and the standalone chargers are about 50 bucks and that just doesnt fly with me.
Help me Bionic gurus!

Take it to a vs. And charge it for a couple hours IMO

If you're willing to waste a charger, you can cut the end off cord and strip it. Red to positive, black to negative.
Attempt at your own risk.

Ive thought about it honestly. There is a store just around the corner from work. It would only take about 45 minutes to an hour...
Who knows I might give that a whirl. Just hoping I can get this phone going again.

There's a trick where you strip a usb cable and attach it to the battery. Don't have the link but if you google around you should find it.

You mean cut up a USB and then directly attach the 5v and GND to the battery?
I have many USBs id be willing to hack up for this if it would work. I just dont want to kill the pack in the process.

Just saw the battery video. Ill give it a try and see if I can get to a point where I can flash something and save my butt!
Im still trying to find a "good" tutorial on getting back to stock "out of the box" with my Bionic. Ive seen many and some even with Megaupload file links that obviously dont work anymore. Can anyone hook me up please?

"charging" now.
Fingers crossed

Nope. "Charging" the battery did nothing.
After a quick trip to VZW I have a new one under warranty.
Now I only have a shot or two with flashing before this one is dead.
Im going to continue reading how to flash this thing so it can boot back up atleast!

What are you trying to flash? I've screwed up alot the last few days and figured a couple things out.
I ordered a charger from hongkong for $6 off ebay. I wont have it for 3 weeks, but it'll be worth it.
use the Bionic Path Saver 1-Click Method it will get you to 5.5.893 unrooted
If you were on .901, download the 901fix, unzip and place both files into the path saver folder. Let the path saver do it's thing, install the .893 when it tells you to (root will fail, it does for me anyhow) reboot, it will throw you into a fastboot cdt failure, click on the 901fix and your phone will reboot into stock 5.5.893, DONE!

Im trying to get this thing back to stock out of the box condition.
Im going to give this a whirl!
http://briefmobile.com/droid-bionic-receives-fastboot-recovery-files
DLing the file now.

That file worked as far as I can tell. It booted and all but now I have no 3g or 4g service. Do I have to reactivate it?
Ill setup on the home wifi I guess.

I think you will need to flash the .886 radio file in recovery.

Umm... Can I get a link or something please?
Ill look around but like most of this flashing stuff there are missing DL files and walk through that do more harm than good to a newb like me.

Sorry, I struggled a lot with the RSD, path saver is an easier method with less work, in my mind.
If you get it to a point where it'll charge, you may want to take a breath and let it juice up

Thanks, I swear I have like 20 tabs open on the one topic and every way is different!
I didnt have an issue with RSD, it worked just fine and dandy.
Ask for the battery, yea its charging before I try ANYTHING! Started at 20% after stock flash and now were at 40% lol

I feel ya. I'm a noob and spent boo-coo hours sweating all the errors. Couldn't keep root when I did get it to work.
Tonight, I went down(.901) and back up(.901 with bad upload, .902) TWICE with my little system in less than 2 hours. Of course, I had all files ready and used 3 different scripts: path saver to .893, 1 click exploit to root .893, and forever root to maintain the root.
---------- Post added at 11:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:12 PM ----------
Maybe I'll jack my phone up again this weekend and learn the RSD method.

Im not trying to learn much, only enough to undo what I foolishly did.
I only rooted to get free wifi hotspot but after only using it once since I rooted I figured it was time to get the phone back to stock. I need this device to work and flashing stuff all day doesnt help.
BTW were at 60% and climbing.

Tried a few things and so far nothing worked. Works great on wifi but I get no 3g or 4g. No calls texts or data services.

Works great now! Stayed up REAL late and burned the midnight oil but somehow I got the 3g/4g working again!
Im at .893 with working root and everything is happy in the Bionic world once more!

A friend opened up my Hero thinking he knew what he was doing...

A friend of mine took apart my hero thinking he was going to help get the dust out from under my screen. I said if it was a problem I would do it myself, well <sarcasm> big shocker, it took only a few minutes to open up</sarcasm> but then an hour to get back together properly -.-
It worked for a while afterwards. flashed fresh Hero. Then after a few hours mid-day after a few successful restarts it decided it didn't want to boot. Didn't do anything special but power off for a battery swap with my Evo. Now it only hangs on the "HTC" splash screen. It can get into the bootloader, but so far it won't flash and hercimg.zip's I throw on it's micro sd card with a card reader. I've only found 2 though. Recovery doesn't work, just hangs on "HTC" screen.
Any suggestions? It's not much of a big deal, but my Evo is cracked and I hope to be replacing it soon. Incase Sprint deactivates or blocks the Evo's ESN.
I've given the Hero hours and hours to boot or load recovery. One time, I let it hang until the battery died!
****Don't reply saying "they won't deactivate your Evo", I already know they most likely will not. That isn't my problem! I need help on fixing my Hero****
iff u can get into fastboot u could try an ruu
If you or your friend didn't properly discharge before you took the phone apart or put it back together you might have temporarily or permanently shocked the mb. Id say try letting it sit over night with the battery out and see if it at least you can boot into recovery. If not then like Bierce22 posted try to ruu. You can try the ruu in zip format or try to ruu from your pc by tracking down an ruu.exe. You can find all the info you need on duces thread about how to ruu. If you can't from your pc you can try the ruu in zip format. If you can't boot into recovery or if your not s-off I'd recommend looking at jm's thread on how to use fastboot without being s-off. Also you would need adb to try that out and if you don't have adb installed then you can hit my avatar and look for my thread on how to install adb on windows it takes like 10 or 15 min tops. Take in mind this is all just a guess. So this is not a guaranteed fix. If you manage to get into recovery I'd say backup all your data and format sd. Then put all the data back on and do a full wipe and a fresh install of the rom of your choice. Or restore a nand. If you get that far run your phone for a couple of days and see how it performs if its straight then your good. If it behaves wacky I'd say put a stock rom on and try to do an insurance claim due to hardware failure. ""TRY""
If you don't get it booted back up then pm me if you want to try a few more steps to attempt to resolve your issue. I've been a victim of a friends so called experience and the whole "I know how to do it but your phone was my first attempt at it thing" Well hope this helps Good luck.

Does anyone have a guide on how to take it apart and put back together successfully? I need to replace my faceplate and thought I'd hijack here.
Also, anyone have a link for the best place to buy the full faceplate and rear door?

Phone won't turn on

Hey Everyone,
Just seeing if anyone might have a solution to my problem that I'm facing. I had rooted my phone when the root originally came out, and everything seemed to be working fine. I had been texting on my phone when it suddenly froze, I waited to see if it would come back, but it never did so I pulled the battery.
The phone originally booted to the M logo, but froze, after another battery pull the phone now won't turn on at all. As in it's not responding to the power button press at all. It's not being recognized by a computer, and there doesn't seem like much I can do.
Any suggestions out there? If my phone is bricked and can't even turn on, will a Verizon store know this? How could they?
thanks.
If u froze something like a system app that may have bricked it. Theres something u can flash which was a cracked version of an ota update that should fix it but u may not be able to receive official updates if u do that. Other option is to wait for an official sbf file

How can I flash something? There doesn't appear to be a way for me to access my phone. I can't get into restore or the bootloader.
What happens when you plug the phone into your charger(using the stock charger and cable)?
Nothing, no light, no anything
I actually haven't tried it in a situation like that so I can't give instructions :/

Just take the phone into Verizon and tell them it has stopped working. You don't have to go into any detail at all.

I think that might be what I do, I can't imagine they would have a way of knowing it's rooted if the phone won't even turn on, charge, or anything.
Thank you, btw.
Try taking out the battery and plugging it in to the wall without it in it. If it starts to boot, let it. Then replace the batter and plug it into the wall again and let it charge up. Happened to my Droid X before and I was able to get it working by doing this.
Tried this, but couldn't get it to work.
Took it to a Verizon store and they said they would send me a new one tomorrow, and then all I do is send mine in afterwards.
Is there a chance that after I send them my phone they could find out I rooted it? I'm worried they would charge me full price for the phone they sent me if they discover it.

Honestly the Magnuson-Moss act protects you in that VZW has to prove that rooting caused the phone to fail. However in practice you end up having to take them to court which is too costly and time consuming. But to answer your question yes they could pretty easily figure it out.
But to put it differently no one else that I've read about has had a failure like yours. People have bootlooped and such, but no one has just had nothing happen on power-up. It doesn't sound like you did anything other than root, which couldn't possible cause this. Freezing apps and deleting system apps only causes force closes and bootlooping, you had neither.

[Q] another bricked captivate

i just went thru a problem with a broken power button. long story short i claimed my warranty and got a refurb. the refurb had 2.2 on it. like a jerk i thought it would be fine to use this guide ( https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1ItSONRa9nzI7MKeKqwIdHCTRA3RRiOM_6LcJGnK4p6Y ) just like i did with my previous phone to get miui back on my phone. i had to downgrade to 2.1 on my old phone but for some reason i thought it would be fine to use the 'safe froyo base' with my already froyo phone...
anyways i got as far as odin saying it was setting partition and it would go any further. no option but to unplug and try again. before trying i tried to boot and take a look at kies. the phone wouldnt boot. just a black screen. so.. i went ahead and tried odin again since i could still get into download mode. it still hung at the same spot. pulled the plug again and put it into download mode and got the great idea of using 1-click to go back to 2.1 stock. then it hung after, i think the 3rd message that it spits out in the log. cant remember what it said but it was a normal msg. so i pulled the plug and tried to put it into download mode again. NO LUCK. and still doesnt boot.
SO, i have a non-booting, non-download mode, non-recovery mode, no signs of life captivate...
is it a refurbished turd or is there hope with a jig or something else?
i know, long story short
those instructions were for i9000 not captivate...
odin sometimes gets stuck on set partition and i wipes the params.lfs partition where the download mode image is stored.
ill bet you 100 bucks if you restart odin. take out your battery, put back in, hold both volume buttons and plug in usb, THE SCREEN WILL NOT come on, BUT odin WILL turn YELLOW in the first box and windows will beep that it found the device.
Odin will flash with a black screen. when the flash starts, you will see a blue bar on the black screen.
use the one click stock roms in the XDA CAPTIVATE development section.
use XDA. period.
so you're saying use the same method again? or use an odin 1-click stock. 2.1, 2.2, or does it even matter? cuz im pretty sure in my rage of panic i tried both one click and full another time and nothing happened. ive got nothing to lose by trying again tho. thanks for the reply.
edit: just tried what you said with the one click i have and no go. ran odin as administrator. dont have time til after work for the full method or a different one click. but i will definatley try.
FYI, regarding your question about a jig, I just had a similar problem (thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19581785#post19581785 I tried every option on this board and many others to get into download mode without success. The jig worked (thankfully!). might be worth trying it before giving up. as for me, no more flashing until I get Outler's Unbrickable Mod.

thanks for the reply. im gonna give it a few more tries before attempting the jig. my power has been out for the last 11 hours so i havent been able to use my pc... or anything really. lost all my food in refrigerator and freezer too .
im gonna mess with this thing a bit more to see if i can make a pearl out of swine poop.
maybe someone can answer me this:
considering what i did to get the phone into this state, if i try to exchange it and tell at&t that i just powered off and it simpy wouldnt power back on is there any way for them tell if it was because of what i did?
anyone? still searching and trying to get dl mode or at least my pc/odin to recognize the device. nothing has worked yet. im downloading sdk now to try adb. i have a feeling that if adb doesnt work then AdamOutler will be $30 richer . and i have an even bigger feeling that adb will not work.

thanks, just read it. the thing is, the phone has no signs of life. pbl or sbl seems to be borked but not possitive. ive heard that what i did shouldnt brick it like it has been bricked.
just tried using adb. couldnt even get to it after downloading sdk. there was a read me where adb normally is and said it was moved in the version i have. i tried to install it and it just said nothing was done. could create the directory. i gotta go to work now so i cant try anything else til i get home.
looks like im gonna try for another warranty claim on the grounds that i was putting my saved data from my old phone onto my replacement with kies when the power went out and my phone froze. pulled battery and wouldnt turn back on. if im denied then ill prolly pay for the unbrickable mod. might get the mod even if i get the warranty refurb. seems like a good investment. ill post the results. thanks to those who gave ideas.
EDIT 11/25: i ended up telling them that it worked fine when i went to bed and woke up 4 hours later and it was off and wouldnt turn on. the rep tried all the things i already tried while i snickered to myself and he said 'yeah its dead'. i got another refurb stock uckb2.

[Q] I think I've killed it!

I ripped my SD slot out a few months back after getting a card stuck in it, I threw the Nook in a corner in disgust and left it there,
I've tried to get it back up and running over the last few days, I've charged it fully over two days using the wall charger but it refuses to boot - I have nothing at all displayed. when i plug it into my PC I hear the noise it makes when a usb device is plugged in but that's it - nothing..
So with all the methods of restoring it need the SD slot..I guessing it's a gonna??
Any ideas??
Could try to convert back to stock. There is a 3 finger method of restoring your nook back to stock. You can find the link here in XDA right here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1461172
Then you can take it back to B&N for a replacement if its still under warranty. Don't be so hardcore with losing on game-mode next time
I tried that last night but will try again with a fresh head ....
Nope..not having it, Tried everything now, using the three finger method brings nothing up on the nook screen at all - totally blank although the pc ssems to respond by making a couple of bleeps so assumed this was akin to the nook being turned on , tried it eight times and nothing..I really do think it's dead...
There is a program in the sdk (/tools/ddms) that allows you to see what is on the screen (and take screenshots). I believe this pulls from what the system is pushing to the screen (not what is actually on the screen). If that is the case, you can hit the power button like you normally would to bring up the lock screen, refresh using the application and see if it is pushing anything. You'd have to be quick, because if the NC is in standby, it won't show anything.
Also, you may want to try pulling some logcats to see what is going on.
I think the nook should be unplugged from the computer when trying the 8 failed boots. Also make sure to hold down the power button at least 8 seconds to make sure the nook is really off.

Thank you for the offer but I've bought another and might as well keep it for spares, the postage to the states and back alone would cost what I've paid for the replacement.
Or you could tell me how you would fix it ;-)
What I would wind up doing depends a lot on what is on it already, and what methods were used... first thing I'd do is modify ROM's to ensure mmcblk0p8 was seen as sdcard... then go from there...
I wish I could give you a definitive "Do this, then this, and finally this" type of answer... but there are so many variables in place there's no way I can without knowing more of what is there...
If you have a custom ROM on it... go to playstore and get adb wireless

Every time I look into KFU and understand it it doesnt download right. Almost everything says it cant work on my computer. I have downloaded several versions. I feel screwed. Is there hope for this? all the apps for unbricking and rooting that i have downloaded have been for nothing. I would really appreciate some mojo and super geek help please.

First try and put it into recovery by holding down the volume up until a screen comes up saying to reboot or restore. Also, give me some background info. on how the kindle stopped working.
Is a definite must do. I have an appt I have to leave for in a minute so as soon as I get home I will def take care of the background info and the volume up try. Thank you. I will most assuredly appreciate your help. :highfive:

Hi again... SO I did the volume up trick until my fingers started to shake. Nothing happened. I did it with the kindle attached to the computer and with out the usb tethered to anything. I did not try it straight off the wall plug tho. Nothing ....
Background. I have had the kindle less than a year. My 8 year old has been stealing it a lot the past few months trying it say is hers ;0 thats ok. Shes been playing games like bakery story Dragon story fashion world and temple run etc... she uses it for the calculator and reading programs. She also uses it for netflix. 5 days ago she watched netflix until the battery gave out. She plugged it in and waited a few minutes and it wasnt coming back in. She told me about it... I looked into everything I could think of. I tried everything I could find. I have downloaded (to my computer) a ton of root and unbricking programs. Nothing makes sense and everything says theres parameters missing. I called kindle. Support took me thru every step I had already tried (power button charging different ways killin the battery all the way doing different things etc) The only two things I see now are a huge battery in the middle of a black screen that has a very small red portion to it or the beginning screen that stays put with the words having the glowy part run across it over and over again... thats all I know for sure. IF theres any information you can help me with I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

You might need to get a factory cable. I have to get one because mine won't start up anymore either.
Hi lisa
First off Don't Panic!!! Been where you are about 2 months ago and couldn't/hadn't flashed/used from etc etc before in my life.. but my kfhd was stuffed but the sounds of things similar to you.
The volume up trick will only work once you have 2nd boot working btw.
Go to the 7' android development section of the kfhd forum and read a few threads around getting something called second boot loader.. it actually really simple and very simple to do (as long as you do follow it EXACTLY).. I did get a factory cable to assist this process, and you may need one as well, but I have read that several people have now worked out how to do it without. (Read all the thread about second boot loader there's a lot but its worth it) factory cables are only cheap at worst case..
I'm sure someone will direct you to exactly the link on the xda forum you need shortly, everyone was amazing when I initially stuffed up.keep smiling and as I said don't panic!!

Does your Kindle take a charge at all do you know or just always the same screens no matter how long you charge?

1st querant Do you buy them on amazon? can i get one closer to home? Is there a price range I should look into?
2nd querant Ill look but be warned that my inner geek has had meltdowns over all of this. Its over my head. I just kinda bug eye and try not to get stupefied.
3rd querant No it will not charge at all.
Thank you all and please be patient with me.
I don`t know if the charging has the same issue as the first gen, it required a running system in order for the battery to charge if it ever became flat. Here`s my suggestion plug it to your pc for several hours set your computer to not sleep and leave it, if you get lucky it will eventually boot good luck. It should not need unbricking by the way.

If you have not done anything to the device to cause this ie: root, custom recovery, flashed anything, then it sounds like you just have a hardware problem. Something went wrong that should not have and would be covered under warranty. I WOULD NOT mess with anything involving root or a factory cable or 2nd bootloader. If you do not know what you are doing when it comes to those things then you could potentially do more harm than good. Did you buy it on amazon? You said you already called amazon, call them back, they will replace it, even if you didnt buy directly from them.. Sometimes the people that answer the phones for amazon are idiots. Just call until you get someone who is helpful. tell them exactly what happened, it died and won't come back on. Don't mention anything about root, factory cable, ect.. These devices havent even been out for a year so all of them are still under warranty unless you've root or installed custom recovery.
Could just be a defective charger ? did you try an alternative mains/usb wall charger, left plugged in with the kindle powered off ? it takes a long time to charge them from flat, mine was approx 12 hours Edit - A computors usb output isn't usually enough to push a charge in only keep the kindle "as is" when in use

Just call until you get someone who is helpful. tell them exactly what happened, it died and won't come back on. Don't mention anything about root, factory cable, ect.. These devices havent even been out for a year so all of them are still under warranty unless you've root or installed custom recovery.

wouldnt matter if I could root or unbrick it. My computer wont download the system operations for those properly. I did mention that I dont know how. and I did say that I dont understand what they are so I am not doing them. That I had tried the 20 second power button push all thw way up to 5 minutes on the usb to the computer and the wall as well as detached. Nothing worked. Its stuck and they wouldnt explain why. All I got was well sorry thats it we cant help you. *sigh* I have tried calling like 5 times. to no avail. Thanks tho.
I will be the first to say that unless I can figure something out I am not going to try it. My tablet is something I find as a MUST HAVE and I dont want to take any chances on ....

Its possible because my son was using mine and his to charge his reg KF and it wasnt charging. He tried several alternates power choices on that as well. I have ordered the factory charger but I am going to want to understand everything about it before it gets here on sat. I am going to start researching it tonight when i get home.

Try testing the charge on a couple different power cords that are know to work and put it on one for 12hrs. Then if it couldn't charge I'll walk you through the steps of using a factory cable.
What kind of computer do you have. These things always work smother on a Windows machine (or Linux). Also did you ever install the drivers for your Kindle on the computer. Nothing will work properly unless you have the drivers on there. They should load automatically when you plug your kindle into the computer. If they don't, here is a thread where you can download the drivers http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1890413 Just download and you can either unzip the file and use what's inside or just double click to install :good:

I dont mean to discourage and maybe it will work but the only thing a factory cable is used for is to put the device into fastboot so you can flash partition imgs or other programming features(the cable uses the fifth lead on a micro usb cable to activate fastboot). Even if it goes to fastboot your kindle is not bricked and and you would have no reason or need for fastboot. From what you've said you have not rooted or modified your device at all, there are only two possibilities of what is wrong with it at this point- the charger is bad or the charging port has gone bad. That box with the red bar about a 1/4 full just means the device doesnt have enough charge to power up. It happens all the time on mine and once I charge it for a couple minutes its fine. So your device is obviously not charging and I dont think a factory cable is going to change that. I just want you to have the right info and not go wasting your time and money trying things that are irrelevant to what is actually wrong with your device.

have cable, still lost. Am trying to figure out what I need. Things wont load on the computer. I have a samsung RV515 laptop. I cant get the computer to recognize the muffed kindle. The fastboot screen does show up but then goes no further. It does need to show up on the computer so I can do more things with it. Not so much atm. I have the recommended linked .exe on the computer but it will not run as it says not everything is downloaded and I have to finish d/l it manually. I am not ready to give up but I wont do anything to screw it up more.
No it wont go past the 1/4th charge. I have left it on the charge for 24 hours and not getting further. Again I have seen people not even able to get to the front screen pull it back from the dead. So Im hoping.. thanks
You mean the exe that I linked you to doesn't work?
from my Viped out one x
