[Q] What are you guys running? - LG Thrill 4G

I was just woundering what everyone is running on there thrill/O3D now?
How is it working for you?
I just went back to v10c 2.2.2 from v20c 2.3.5 and i am just using stock rom and overclock kernal and titanium pro to remove all my bloatware. Running really nice only thing i miss is cut and paste and the keyboard from gingerbread.

I'm running Roadrunner stock ROM
speeds aren't too bad with the OC and v6 script
had issues with fixing the APN but all better now
Ill probably install cm7 vengence later today
what made you come back down

i just wanted to mess around with roms and stuff like that i might try out cm7 to but i heard if you take your sd card out at all wile its installed it bricks your phone

I ran it fine without taking out the SD card, I downloaded MIUI Flag Config and used that tool I think there are instructions on the O3D XDA site. Pretty neat little tool
Only issue was setting my APN and flex settings

Why? You should be using Swiftkey X anyway.

I'm with AT&T and I had put Rogers 2.3, v20c. But I hated not having a it rooted so I dropped it back down to Rogers 2.2, v10c, then put CM7 37 and I love it. They finally worked out the battery draining issues in cm7 and the only 3D currently on it is the ability to take 3D pictures, but I never really used the 3D anyways so it's not a big loss for me. Also using the LunarUi theme and it's gorgeous.

well that sounds nice mabie ill flash that tonight

omg cm7 were you been all my android life of one month love this rome with overclock kernel so nice forget about 3d and hdmi i can live with out that think ive found my secound love lol

Discussion - Fastest 2.1 ROM for Milestone

Hi guys,
I've flashed CM6.1 ROM (Froyo 2.2) to my Milestone a few weeks ago - and was enjoying it till one day I accidentaly hard reset and noticed that I have also removed the default launcher from ROM. So I had black screen and nothing appears after the phone was booted.
Well I could just have copied a launcher over from the PC, but I decided to restore my Nandroid backup.
To my surprise, the backup was the stock 2.1 Eclair ROM. So I was frustrated a bit to lose Froyo.
But after using Eclair 2.1 for a week or so, I have never enjoyed using the Milestone as much as this. It's fast and responsive, better than when I had Froyo.
I wanted to ask - is it true that Eclair 2.1 IS faster than Froyo, or did I flashed a slow Froyo ROM? In terms of memory management is great too. I can open more apps and keep them running than I can remember with my Froyo. With Froyo, I've encountered like foreground app close, and changing from one app to another will eventually killed the last app and had to load it back.
Or can someone recommend a very fast and good memory management of Froyo ROM for my milestone? Or it's really - Ok let's cut the crap and go straight to the point - Eclair that's leading in this race (and I've won?). Edit : The Eclair won!
I do miss the Flash 10 on Froyo... sigh, if only I can get it on Eclair still.
Thanks.
-
Update: Well it's not a true-not-true anymore but it is TRUE that Eclair does run much faster than Froyo or Gingerbread. I'm using Telus 5.2 Eclair and I just can't believe the speed that I'm getting (it's like Milestone on steroid!). See my post on 2nd page. And no I'm not with Telus or related or what, but I highly recommend this ROM to Eclair users out there. This is definitely a keeper! I've also covered about the battery life and tempreture on the post on 2nd page. Have a read, and don't hesitate to flash Telus, you will never regret it. Now I am more hesitate to flash over to Froyo or Gingerbread even more after using it! Hey, I feel like I can outbeat a Tegra even
-
Update: First of all I'm renaming this thread from "Milestone 2.1 Eclair faster than 2.2 Froyo" to "Discussion - Fastest 2.1 ROM for Milestone".
I saw some users asking about where this Telus 5.2 Eclair is.. so I'm providing the link here > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=717377.
No I am not associated with the dev who made that ROM or whatsoever, and I am not duplicating the thread. Merely suggesting the fastest 2.1 ROM available (currently), for those who are not the 'wait and obey' users of Milestone, but to the 'commander' users of this device. Continuous discussions about which is the fastest 2.1 ROMs are still welcomed here, and of course, any ROM comparison discussions with other various versions (eg. 1.6, 2.2, 2.3, 3.0??) should head over here >http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029887
I haven't used Eclair in a long time but I remember how clad i was when I flashed a custom ROM for a first time (some Cm7 nightly) and on my case my milestone felt blazing fast even with bad memory management and I "promised" I never go back to stock eclair and have kept that promise. I'm now running FroyoMod 2.6.1b and this is probably the most stable rom I've ever had and if u haven't tried it then u should because it just might me the rom that ur looking for when it comes to stability and capabilities.
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App
Hey MakeW00t , sounds interesting. But fast alone isn't enough for me. Good memory management plays a vital role as well. I just hate to see vital apps (eg. navigational software) got killed just because I had to read my SMS or check a few things on the calendar!
Anyway, thanks for your recommendation. Maybe I'll flash FroyoMod 2.6.1b when I feel Eclair is not enough.
I've been through that before "I never go back to stock eclair" But now that I had it back.. I can't see any reason NOT to..

Same here, it is nice to have a PHONE again, and Eclair makes it real... Sad but true... I tried and tested almost all mods available on this forum (including official stock froyo update and Froyo Mod 2.6, which unfortunately also appears to be frustrating and sluggish after only 2-3 days of intensive use, without too much apps installed at all!)... must admit that my personal favorite is MIUI by lalit79 (recommendations, great job done lalit!), but after some serious stability/speed issues in latest version (overheating during battery charge, ext2/4 not working whatever method I tried, FCs), Eclair is the ultimate choice of the moment (I need a stable and reliable device, for calls and long bussines emails, no crashes or FC-s or reboots)... at least, until a new MIUI version is ready... If you already didn't, try rooting and overclocking eclair with milestone OC (@900/56) - it gives a nice final touch of ultimate speed and joy of "Phone Without Compromise" (and official froyo is one BIG compromise, if you ask me)....
cheers!
Hi mcekic. Well as a matter of fact I did OC my Milestone using Milestone Overclock to 1000Mhz, 69vsel. Battery life is ok so I guess I'll stick with it for a while (If not I will use your 900/56, should give me more battery life - logically).
I believe I have the same needs as you, to have a real PHONE again!
Don't get me wrong, Froyo does have all the extra functionalities (I miss App2SD and Flash 10 the most - but I heard that this is possible on Eclair as well? Havn't done my homework yet in regards to this) but in the end, all that functionalities goes to waste when the performance is sacrificed.
I have also OC'ed the phone to 1Ghz when I was running Froyo. But I think the main culprit is the memory management. It just can't stop killing apps, and when it does, the phone felt slow. I used Autokiller, that helped a bit, but Eclair still wins.
Now, does anyone knows the best Eclair ROM ? I need a naked ROM if available. Whoa now that would be super fast!
Guys, I think this thread would fit in this one very well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029887
Roms: Continuous comparison of milestone roms and updates
well s0ulreaver, now that you mentioned it, I do think this discussion would very well belong there.
Can any mod possibly merge this?
I think Froyo is so heavy for MS. But in another view, it's not too bad.
Did you try stock ROM from Motorola?
Except DSI, I think it's acceptable. You can run at 550MHz without any problem.
With CM6, I have to OC at 750.
But now I use it for daily uses, because it's very convenience.

yup, went back to eclair after several froyo/gb roms (cm6, froyomod, miui, cm7).
our milestone just don't have the ram for anything more memory demanding than eclair

i tried stock 2.1 from moto germany but then switched to telus lite 5.2 with a gb skin. it runs smooth and stable like a rock and can handle multiple apps in mem (facebook, maps, opera and minor stuff like talk, gmail, etc at the same time).
besides the skin it is pretty vanilla and wields all the nice stuff like overclocking and the cache hack.
Eclair is the best. i overclocked at 800Mhz with 58 Volts. Its smooth and no bugs/issues. It never restarts and works just fine.

You mean stock Froyo ROM from Motorola? No I haven't tried it yet, but I saw this guy here posted Froyo stock running flash 10.2 on his Milestone overclocked to 1.2Ghz and it runs great
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaCspAW8RzA
i have never saw flash video that plays so smooth on the Milestone - and am happy to see one! I'm gonna try Froyo stock when i have the time, but of course, I need to do a Nandroid backup first
What's a DSI?

Well, I believe you're an experienced custom froyo ROM user then. For me I didn't have the time to flash that many froyo ROMs to test. But hey, I guess you've saved my time by sharing your experience with it right
Cool, I should not be doing much this weekend so I think I'll make up some time to flash telus lite 5.2 - The most important thing for me is to have a reliable phone, and a responsive one as well. Based on your recommendation, I think telus lite 5.2 fits the bill. Will try it out and give my opinion on it later. Thanks!

btw: if you want a gingerbread-look on telus lite (as the default skin and fonts are ugly imho) try "better gingerbread theme for 2.1". just make sure you delete settings.apk and motocardock.apk in the skin update zip.

Thanks, hey, as a matter of fact, let me try this on my stock 2.1 ROM.
A bit update on my 2.1 stock, when downloading big files over 100MB via browser and saving to SDCard, my phone will eventually be in the 'sleep of death' mode where it sleep and will never turn on again - unless I remove and reinsert the battery of course. Not sure what's causing this.
Update : It was my MicroSD card which been causing this. It's corrupted somehow or rather ...
Another issue is that when I record videos and battery is low, during the end of recording, the phone will hang. Tried this several times when the battery is low (about 15% charge left), and confirmed that is the issue - why? possible cause maybe not enough power to process / save these videos? Snapping pictures works ok. On some devices (especially Samsungs), camera and video function will be denied access when battery is low. I guess this could be the issue unless anyone else have not run into this problem before?
hmm now i really want to go back to eclair, cm7 is to big for the milestone
Indeed, Telus Lite 5.2 is the way to go. Very good stability and speed.
Darn... I've just flashed Telus 5.2 last Sunday and it's TRUE that this is the fastest ROM available for the Milestone!
I just can't believe the speed that I'm getting. I feel that I can outbeat a Tegra even! Hahahaha..
The phone (compared to stock 2.1) is also cooler when tethering. I used to get up around 46c - 57c, with the Telus I'm getting like 34c - 47c with wifi tether on.
In terms of battery life. After 13hrs 10minutes, my battery went down from 100% to 50%. Edge was turned on all the time. 15minutes of Wifi tether with HSDPA on. 30minutes of fb and websurfing. 15 minutes on Papago GPS. Some SMS and whatsapp plus yahoo messenger runnin all the time as services. Not bad.
Highly recommended for Eclair users!
AFAIK though, nobody has been able to get app2ext working in Telus Lite.
People have gotten app2ext work with stock eclair though. (1 of these days, I plan to go back to rooted, OC'd, GOT sbf eclair. I assume that app2ext will work as GOT is heavily based on the stock eclair sbf.)

GOT Eclair is Stock Eclair, it is a Leak of the official Firmaware. only change is the vulnerable recovery afaik.
rest of GOT specific modifications are applied through OR! was one of the best Eclair FW's i tried (for the first time my alarm and geolocation service were working ; )

[Q] Doomed Froyo Slim V1.0.1

First, I would like to thank Urabewe for all of his hard work in getting this ROM out here for our use. I feel it certainly does move faster than Thriller v1.1.0, but it's truly too soon to tell. I haven't dumped all of my apps onto the phone yet since flashing my Thrill 4G to this ROM.
Now I do have a concern with the current version of Froyo. One thing I liked about Thriller is that I was able to remove screens that I was not using, and I could also rearrange them with ease. I have not found a way to do this with Froyo. Is there a way to do it that I am just overlooking?
This n00b appreciates your help!
A friend who is less of a n00b told me that Froyo is older than Gingerbread so that is why he has never used it himself. So I am guessing it is just a limitation.

its not a feature of a specific version of android but of the launcher you are using... i cant remember what launcher thriller comes with but it isnt stock so you have bunch of cool features like removing and managing screens.. try a different launcher like adw or launcher pro from the market and you will get these features back
Is Doomed really faster than Thriller?
Is it as stable?

CM7 for Thrill

http://rootzwiki.com/topic/4883-almost-cyanogenmod-cm7-selfkang3-for-optimus3d-and-thrill/
Found this at AC.com . I apologize if this has already been posted, but I didn't see it in the development secion. This makes getting on GB a snap.
Is working great! The first few minutes, download speeds seemed really slow. But then it's picked up and it's fast.
Best part is when you long click the power button, you have the option of booting into recovery rather than having to shut the phone off and do the three button trick.
This kind of post should be in general section, as far as you are not developing yourself. Move thread.

Also, the proper link to the CM7 nightly downloads is:

Installed the latest build last night myself. Working wonders so far. Never cared much about 3D after the initial 'wow' factor. Never used HDMI. Everything else seems to be working with a few quirks here and there. Can't believe how much faster the phone is over the stock Froyo crap. Was sick and tired of waiting for AT&T and LG to pull their heads out of their @$$ and update the phone. I very much appreciate the hard work everyone has put forth getting these GB CM7 roms out for the Thrill.

Had no issues. Currently running cm_p925_full-4.zip with google addons myself. A few random reboots but no more than stupid stock Froyo did. Very happy with it so far.
Echo is an issue. They evidently have something wrong with the noise cancellation mic on these builds. To fix the issue turn down your volume while in a call or the person on the other end will hear themselves echo. Hopefully it'll be fixed in one of the next releases.

Good ROM & is gingerbread upgrade worth it?

Is gingerbread update worth it or no. I heard it's buggy.
Is Cyanogen mod the only good ROM for froyo 2.2.2 or is there better. I heard 3d camera and games don't work. but other than that it is fast and has good battery life.
also should I only use titanium back for apps?
what should I use to back up texts and phone log?

It's not that it's buggy.
It's that it uses a bunch of battery

k I am confused now. You said cyanogen mod rom is gingerbread. I tried it very briefly. It LOOKED like gingerbread, but isn't that just a theme. My phone is Froyo 2.2.2. I flashed cyanogen mod nightly ROM and backed up my stock froyo 2.2.2.

why are these other roms better than cyanogen?
I like Cyanogen roms more customization etc.... but no 3d plus I had major issues with USB Mass Storage, when i connect my phone to the pc it picks up the SD card but I couldn't explore it... with froyo I didn't have that issue so despite issues with the battery life i'll go back to thriller till cyanogen works out better

I have fantastic battery life with CM7 now for some reason... before it would just drain my battery, but it looks like that its worked out in Nightly 37.
Also I had switched from v10e to v10c, which I think is pretty much switching from stock AT&T to stock Rogers, then flashing cm7.
I was out partying all weekend and had been to tired or drunk each night to even consider charging my phone and it lasted me all weekend... Monday morning was my first charge since Friday (and I use my phone A LOT)
Honestly who uses 3D anyways? I've only used it to show it off.. so CM7 wasn't a loss with the 3D for me

They're .kdz files which you use LG Updater Tools to flash the rom (some tricky **** honestly)
I'm not sure why they have them in .kdz instead of .zip files but I'm assuming it somehow must be a better way to flash??
I've tried Thriller, Thrill Seeker, and Doomed and I didn't really like any of them..
Personally I like to stick with anything based off of cm7 or cm7 itself.. it's well built.

Which ROM to install?

Hello,
I have my A853 Milestone for about a year and a half.
Currently I have the HO!NO! Cyanogen mod installed on it.
The problem is that the device is very slow, it always crash and games are super laggy (like Angry Birds) or it crashes (like Draw Something).
Which ROM should I install?
I want it to be stable, quick and run games like it should run them.
Thanks

I've had my OG droid for over two years, and I think I've tried every possible ROM there is. The Gingerbread ROM are nice, but they lag really badly on the device. It doesn't have the CPU or memory to handle it well enough. You could do it, but things like the camera and games will almost always end up bogging the device to unresponsive.
I've had the best luck with Liquid Frozen Yogurt 1.95. It s a 2.2.1 ROM (Froyo) and it is really smooth. The camera actually works which is a problem for most of the GB ROMs. Bugless Beast is also a good ROM.

How about games?
Does games on Frozen Yogurt 1.95 run smoothly? no lags?
Is it stable? (no crashes)

oh..
well I'm trying to install The Froyo Mod now, I remember it was good + this is 2.2, which the milestone should support much better than the Gingerbread - 2.3.
Lol, sorry

Nothing I did could get the gb roms to run smoothly. The OG droids just don't have the ram.

I installed TheFroyoMod 2.9.3 and now the device is much better.
It runs smoothly, Draw Something actually works (pretty smooth), it's stable and I recommand you to install it too.
It makes sense because the device officially support 2.2 and not 2.3, it has resources for 2.2 but not enough for 2.3
Rom
I play zenonia in froyo mod with minimal lags. I think it is the best rom for gaming.
I liked cm6 for battery but cm9 was running really good on mine

What's wrong with CM 7.2.0 RC1 by kabaldan? I'm planing to install it on my 2.2 stock ROM but retain the 600mhz frequency for battery life reason. Would I suffer worse performance than my current stock?
thanks
I'm in the same boat as the OP.
I am setting up my friend's OG Droid and I'm curious the best ROM.
I have to say I'm pretty happy with CM 7.1 stable release so far. It works great so far and I haven't noticed any problems. The camera seems fine.
Is GB really that bad?
I did try CM 7.2 experimental build (from CM download page) and it was working great until I noticed that the flashlight app, torch wouldn't work. I really wanted it to work in the Power Widget. After screwing around with it for quite a while, I ended reflashing back to CM7.1 stable.
Assuming games won't be games played on the device, I think that CM7 is the way to go unless there are more RAM-hogging apps running. I'm a newb to the OG Droid though.
*EDIT*
P.S. Do you guys have a favorite recovery? I am using CWM 2.5.0.1. The weird thing is it doesn't display Dalvik as wiped when I wipe Dalvik Cache. I dunno if it is a problem or not. I actually searched around a fair bit. What is the best recovery for the OG Droid? Stability, nandroids, and functionality are key. I don't care about touch interface.
Thanks. Feel free to flame me if I am overlooking this info.
recovery i use minimod, hava any scripts (supercharge), unistall system apps, backup apps and have a script to wipe a ext partition.
I used all roms for milestone and cm6 (or shadowmod discontinued a long time ago ) is the best, the only one it works fine, another roms always have a problem with performance (i don't play in my phone).
I have been runnning a rooted overclocked (800mhz) stock rom for ages, but still had issues with it freezing when surfing and quitting apps.
Yesterday I finally got round to changing to CM 7.2.0 RC1. Performance is so much better, more options, smoother scrolling, but the battery life is worse. I had to charge it twice today which is usually a rare occurance. So I have knocked it back down to 800mhz again from 1ghz, setup the 2g toggle, and made a few other tweeks. Will see how that does for now, but if not then will look into battery calibration.
I rarely use my phone for gaming, so couldn't comment on the performance, but if its anything like what I experienced elsewhere you should be happy. Slightly earlier builds have been mentioned to have a better battery life too.
Hope that helps
Best ROM on the Milestone right now? MIUI 2.4.20 hands down.
Damn... new users can't post outside link but Google it.
And btw, it seems that the ROM was designed for Chinese Milestone so the physical keyboard layout is kinda messed up if you use Europe or HK milestone. And since I don't use the physical keyboard at all so it's not a huge problem. But seriously, this is the best damn thing you can put on a Milestone, try it out
Cheers

While it will probably work better than a stock ROM, I'd suggest you try a Froyo based ROM. The biggest issue with GB on a Milestone is the RAM. I tried out every single workaround I came across for over a year, only to end up going back to CM6 (vikasbn's version).

Thanks for the tip bro. Do you recommend this Froyo thread or something else?

That's the one I'm currently using and so far it's worked like charm. It's also the only one that seems to be updated.
Hello everyone,
I have an A853 (Milestone). I am looking for advice on what SBF and ROM to install, and how to optimize the performance.
I hope it is ok for me to join this thread (instead of opening a new one). Below are my concerns; I am looking forward to advice from experienced forum members (reading from your posts, you definitively are experienced):
1. underlying firmware (OS)
If I understand correctly, due to the locked bootloader I can only change which kernel I will be running by flashing a different SBF file:
- SHOLS_U2_02.31.0 (I believe this is stock Eclair?)
- SHOLS_U2_05.26.3 (and this should be stock Froyo?)
Which SBF should I flash my phone with, so that the ROM I will later choose will work best? Of course, I'll apply a vulnerable SBF afterwards.
2. ROM
I am most keen on MIUI (the latest and final build for this device is 2.4.20?), since I was using it before and I really like its user interface. However, I experienced some problems with it (unresponsive/laggy, not receiving SMS messages after some time, etc.).
Is the MIUI-derivate NIMIUI any better? Moreover, I saw there is another ''chef'' quynhnt that is further developing NIMIUI but I see user responses that it is kind of buggy?
I've tried FroyoMOD which seemed the fastest to me (although I would be really missing MIUI features), however it did not let me connect to my home WiFi (WPA2+AES+Radius) so I let it go.
ICS seems kind of no-go to me because Milestone only has 256MB of RAM (which is very little); I've tried the unofficial alpha CM9 and although everything worked, it was just too laggy. I believe the unofficial MIUI v4 would be the same.
Any suggestions? I am leaning towards official MIUI but with thorough testing of incoming SMS (I can't afford not to receive them) and additional optimizations that are decribed below. Or am I missing something?
3. optimizations
SuperCharger
Definitively I would like to use the SuperCharger V6 (or is it V8 - any differences?). Which settings profile should I select based on the following demands:
- I don't play games on my phone
- I want a responsive phone with no lag
- The most demanding app I use is Exchange sync (6 accounts), nothing more
Build.prop modifications?
Should I take care of anything here? Maybe change the Dalvik heap size (to what?)
ext3 on sdcard
Can this somehow help me? I have prepared a functioning ext3 partition on my sd, I just don't know if it is possible to somehow manage a swapfile on it and if this should help my phone being less laggy? Can MIUI handle this out-of-the-box?
I kindly thank to anyone who would be willing to help me with advice.
Best regards, d11
I got an OG Droid i use for multimedia... The screen is crystal clear with LIquid Smooth... the launcher sometimes gets buggy but everything works including torch etc... It basically made an old system useful again. I'll try out other system and post my results... Froyo versions first and so on...
