Hello All,
My 1st post in this thread.
Does any one know or recommend a rom that has wifi tethering built in for the Note?
Is this function even possible on a unlock Note
Thank you.

Wrong section that is the development forum.
Even with stock rom you can do tethering. Look into the settings.

Sorry about the wrong section. Mods please move. Thanks.
Do you know if the stock rom tether is for free and undetectable per carrier otherwise I am looking for a rom can take advantage of using my data for free?

yes the stock wifi tether is for free
but you need an internet connection active then you share it as much as you wish
Free? I think it depends on your contract. Not everyone has unlimited bandwidth.
on the other hand, using it via tethering or with your phone is not reported by Android to carrier.

Well, ofc I've searched! :banghead: :banghead: I just want to use my old phone as a portable router. OFC!! I know how to root etc ( if u were wondering)
Edit. If u don't have an answer or solution for THIS phone, then don't post. :banghead: Sorry for posting in the wrong section. And I know some ( definitely not all) roms have the option to tether, but a rom with nothing but a tether app that work properly would be nice.

No name calling please. it's rude and others may flame you for that.
On topic, i haven't encountered any rom (stock kernel)that was made specifically for tethering. Lame as it is, my advice is to try different roms and see which is best for you.

Have you tried foxfi from the play store. It is tethering for uprooted phones. Worked on both my DX and SGS 3. It doesn't work if you are rooted but works perfectly on stock uprooted.

As per the title, I'm wondering if this is now possible? I've checked via settings => update - but it says no update available.
- Is this update now available?
- If so, does it only apply to phones that are rooted? How do I go about getting the phone rooted?
This should be q&a, report yourself.
There is a leaked version out called ls7 or ls2,both available to download in development section. As they're leaks, you'll need to be rooted, follow drive ketans thread on rooting, easiest way is to install philz kernel via stock recovery.
Don't post questions in general, it's possible they'll just be closed.

Hi there. Apologies - upon reflection, you're quite right. I didn't notice the Q&A subsection when I went to post initially. Just saw 'general' and thought this would fit into general. Mods, please move as necessary.

Guess you talked chinese for him when explaining the rooting and upgrade procedure to jelly bean in post #2
Or he stopped reading after the phrase he quoted ofcourse...
He needs to read a LOT. spoonfeeding the procedure is dangerous if he is not even reading the replies.

Back up the bus people. You originally posted this;
"This should be q&a, report yourself."
Clearly, you came back and edited your post later. I thank you for that - but people, ease up on the assumptions and judgements. I never asked for spoonfeeding from anyone!
Is there a likelihood that this upgrade will be officially supported at some stage?

You are correct, I did only post that originally because usually posts are closed immediately in general, but I edited way before you replied, pretty much straight after, certainly not after 3 days that it took for your response.

I think you are new here.
Let me explain it in layman terms.

Yes available as a leak.
The update is not official till at least December.
That is why you couldn't see a new JB update from Software Update (OTA).

You need not necessarily be rooted to install JB.
You can flash XXLS2, the earliest leak available from Odin 3.04 (The ROM flasher for Sammy phones)
XXLS7 is known to be unsoundly slow. It's probably not optimised yet from Sammy's side.
However the infamous Multi-window feature is available on XXLS7.
If you really want the latest and greatest aka XXLS7 with all the bells and whistles,
you need to be rooted. As for that, do your own research. :victory:

I assume you mean XXLS7 from leak, not XXLS7 cooked by xda devs. Because the last one is actually faster than XXLS2, and battery life better. No match.
@livebyte : Thanks for taking the time out for your comprehensive post. I think I will hold off and wait for the official update. That was what I was referring to when I posted initially. I appreciate that there are alternative roms available - but if the official becomes available sometime this month, then I guess that's the path of least resistance.

Hi all. I bought a GS3 on the weekend (uk unlocked,) I unrooted the phone in order to add the 4.2 camera but I am now wondering... If I was to root the device again would the camera app that I installed still be on the device? Also, how would I root it again? I am still using the stock OS but when I search for updates it recoginises that it is a modified unit. I have used triangle away and in download mode it says all is stock but it knows....
Any help would be great!
Thanks,

The phone kernel is 2.6.35.7-N7000XXKL8-CL840182. In order to install another firmware I saw is not easy according this version, it's true?
It's locked to Uk Vod. If possible help me to root this phone. I tought was easy like my htc sensation but looks not.

Sorry about that but I'm portuguese and i'm trying using google translator.
What I meant is if it's possible to change roms.
You missplaced your thread. But it's been fixed by the forum moderators now.
About your problem, I suggest you to backup your important data, delete everything from the phone memory, and flash some stock ROM using Odin.
There are plenty of guides here on XDA to do so.
If you're still confused PM me in about 5 hours and I can help you in (Brazilian) Portuguese. Might be a little better.

Sorry to say the installer app doesn't do anything magical - it just installs the matching cyanogenmod onto your phone. Since there is no official release for the active, it just won't work.
Right, but I know we've been experimenting with running s4 mods through safestrap. I was curious if anyone had tried something similar to experiment. Of course, they don't have the at&t s4 as supported either, so...
