[Q] rooting bionic with lapdock - Motorola Droid Bionic

Hi . I was wondering if it is possible to run a rooting tool like Pete's root with my lapdock and bionic? If not is there an app that will work. I am an over the road driver and have no PC to use only the lap dock. Also have g tablet , Archos tab and zoom . Please let me know if there is a way. Thanks for all the advice you guys give to us that dont have the skills to do if ourselves.

Nope, need a pc.
Glad to see another driver on here. I'm not otr, but they all have 18 wheels, right?

[Think Tank] Game Emulator Controller solutions Wii or otherwise

OK, granted I don't know much but maybe this thread can group peoples Ideas on a suitable controller for the captivate.
I know the WII Controller app currently doesn't work for us, but we do see that the controller hardware does offer the opportunity to pair with the phone over bluetooth.
I guess the first step is to successfully get the pairing, is this possible somehow? would a successful password hack make it happen?
I guess second would be to have it recognize buttons in a keyboard fashion to work with most emulators.
I know the developer of the existing wii controller app has said we probably get his app working, and I don't blame hime for not trying to get every phone to work, but i feel there is enough talent here to maybe get our own solution?
Or, if anyone actually has a better solution to the hope for an external controller, please help us all!
Wait the WII app does not work for us? I was about to hit BB :-(
Unfortunately the test app didn't work for me, and the developer has the captivate on the list of phones that currently are not compatible and most likely will not be compatible in the future with his software.
Ouch :-(
Not good news but better than me buying the wiimote for nothing.
I am assume is a matter of time before someone comes up with one anyway
Has anybody tried pairing a Playstation 3 controller with the phone? PS3 + HDMI via USB cable would make a great portable gaming console for when out of town at family, etc.
I'd definately contribute cash towards getting a working driver if needed.
EDIT: Also, MSI has a bluetooth gamepad that works with the phone. Google MSI BGP100. My biggest complaint/concern is that the controller doesn't seem to be designed to accommodate a phone in landscape mode, so that's a bit of a drawn back for playing games on the go (as opposed to hooking it up to a TV or monitor, where it wouldn't be an issue).
I actually emailed the dev about future compatibility for our phones, he said it's samsungs proprietary bluetooth drivers that are incompatible with the wiimote.
If we were to flash a vanilla android rom or something, it would work just fine.

EDIT:
"Hello,
thank you for your question.
You're right about the frequency of these kind of requests. Newer Samsung phones unfortunately use proprietary bluetooth stacks (developed by Samsung) instead of the default that is in Android, named Bluez. That proprietary stack doesn't support the type of connection that wiimotes need to connect.
So, the only way currently for you to have this app working is if you get rid of that bluetooth stack. If you want to, you can root and flash your phone with a custom ROM. "Vanilla" ROMs have had success with other non-compatible phones in the past. Vanilla just means a type of ROM that is made from code that originates directly from Google, not from Samsung. One known creator of good quality vanilla ROM is cyanogen from xda-developers.com, but I don't believe his ROMs can run on the Galaxy (yet).
A friendly word of caution: rooting and flashing probably voids your phone's warranty and you also loose all the data (like contacts, app settings, etc) so MAKE BACKUPS before doing anything.
Best regards,
Piki"
This is awesome news. I am rooted and ready, and now patiently awaiting CM6 to get everything up and running! Thanks for the posts!

Ooohhh you guys see this?
Making a Nintendo SNES controller into bluetooth; using an MSI BGP100
If the MSI BGP100 works for us then I am going to do this!

Please dont hold your breath, you'll be bluer than a smurf. There is nobody working on a CM6 version for the Captivate. Only the Vibrant.

So has anybody confirmed if this works or not with the Captivate?
I'm thinking since the wiimote wont work via bluetooth, no bluetooth gamepad will work.
Has anyone ever tried interfacing a standard controller through the microUSB port? Or custom building such a device?

It depends on the drivers otherwise no bluetooth device will be able to connect...at least that is how I see it.
no that the psx emulator is out and resedent evil 3 works perfectly, i would like to see some kind of gamepad, sucks theres no way to use a controller.. , is there even anyone working on getting this done???
Just wondering if any updates have been made on any controllers working on the captivate? Still no WiiMote connectivity, havent tried to connect anything through the micro usb. If anybody knows of a way to control emulators for the Samsung Captivate, Let us all know!

vibrant roms work with a few known and easily fixed issues with button logic. there may be other issues i cant remember but it is doable. as long as the vibrant is getting attention it should be enough.
Actually, hold your breath...
The Cog Rom has been using the original bluez stack protocol needed, and I am hopeful of compatibility soon...
Nothing seems to work still yet for the wii controller apps yet, but I haven't tried again in the last couple versions.
At least it seems we are headed in the right direction!

Wouldn't be too sure about that since he removed bluez after version 5 saying it caused more trouble than it was worth. It would seem the only hope we have now is for gdanko's aosp froyo. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=815420&page=18
Indeed it seems aosp is a gamer's only hope for our beloved captivate... we need the non samsung proprietary Bluetooth stack.

YAY! I got my Streak 7 Today, Rooted just now.

Ok YAY I decided to get the Streak 7 vs the Sam Tab. Why? Dual core ftw. That is root and future ready right there. =)
So I will be joining this section too now to see whats up and learn and pass that info on to others too.
Btw for those using the 1 click root. I had to disable my AV (Kaspersky), Used 1.5.5 (not 1.7.0) and SOMETIMES You need to unplug and turn off the streak 7 and back on to try again till it works the root. In the end it will root.
Now to figure out which rom to use..
Good to hear that buddy. actually there is no ROM s, only tweaks. I'm trying the figure about compiling a ROM (porting of course). But, hey, how the DS7 is working for you?
Its working well. No regrets and N64 emulator works well on it. =D Also waiting on new custom roms, or more importatly. Debian or some form of Linux. I mean A dual core tablet should be able to perform decently. Or is there something now for Linux?

It will, if its XP. Just gotta install drivers, reboot, then connect.

Ubuntu on p990

After looking around on other devices and prevoiusly owning a htc touch pro 2 and porting ubutnu on it, I have decided that this summer (I finish uni in 3 weeks) I would try putting it on the p990. At first i was going to do it by vnc however i saw this yesterday
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1045910
Considering the superior specs of our device and the possibilty of hdmi out
Is anyone else interested in trying to make this possible? If so I thought I would get the thread going, the more people developing the better
I have been requesting this myself, so if this is made possible, I'd be a very happy man!
i would be very happy to help you in any way.
it was my dream to run a full linux on this phone (either meego or fedora).
i'm a heavy linux-user, but a noobie when it comes to android.
+1 On this. Does anyone know if there are people working on this?
instead of going for Native boot, why not try to run it in chroot first?I am trying to get it to run on a chroot envoirnment using VNC first..but till now no success.
Edit:Got it to work on the chroot envoirnment..If any one is interested then let me know i will post the instructions
If there really is usb host mode on this device (dont know why it shouldn't be), then running it natively could be really cool, even be of some good use to people. It's a pretty powerful device so. Drivers will get kind of hard to get though, especially for the gpu, or am I wrong? chroot isn't really that useful, so natively is the way to go. If only I knew more about this, I would help, but one thing, the bootsequence is already done for the DHD, so that part atleast shouldn't require much work to get working on this phone?
Edit: And if we get ubuntu running, there shouldn't be that hard to get a working meego on there either, whenever that's finished ofc.

I can do better than that..lemme get the script in order then i will post it in a new thread
That can be cool, but we need to know more info about the o2x before :
O2x support USB-HOST ?
If not, can linux support O2x bluetooth stack ?
What about audio ? the only phone that get supported by ubuntu dont have sound support.
The Toshiba Folio 100, a NVidia Tegra 2 device, support ubuntu, anyway to use it on O2x and not start from beginning ?
There is an interested developers ?
I have found the sulotion : you must follow this guide
http://androlinux .com/android-ubuntu- development/how-to-install-ubuntu-on-android/
So dowload the ''ubuntu.zip'' but when you unzip the file replace all ''loop1" by ''loop5'' in bootubuntu file. That all
I'M NOT RESPONSIVE IF YOU BREAK YOUR PHONE !!!
Haven't had much time to look into this yet with being end of year at uni but this might be very useful to us.

First Tablet

Hi all, Just a quick question to all of you using tablets these days. First I just got nexus 7 for my b'day and now im on the market for .... everything. I would like to know if you guys experienced some issues with log me in on your tablet. What are best ways to use and utilise the tablet. Also another question is a cable, can i use MHL or Micro HDMI cable with this tablet or is that a no-no? If so would the same cable work with my GNex? What apps would you recommend and generally anything related to this. Any input suggestion or, in the end, discussion is welcomed.
Edit#2 can you connect USB drives or sticks to it, if so how?

MHL/HDMI is a nono yes. The only way I'm aware of it being done is through a Raspberry Pi, you may aswell forget about that now
I wouldn't use LogMeIn to be honest, take a look at SplashTop HD
Finally, you need a USB-OTG (on the go), then a normal memory stick/usb hard drive. Download an App called StickMount(Rooted) or Nexus Media Importer (Non-Rooted) and away you go.
PS - Welcome to the best little tablet !

Thanks for such a quick reply! Shame that there is no MHL capabilities. I sort of need log me in for work purpouses. I tried on the phone and the app worked flawlessly but on the baled graphic was gone and frankly speaking unusable.
USB OTG just plug it it, than my stick, run my app and off it works?
Can i connect keyboard and mouse same way?
Cheers

[Q] Using a USB Wireless Adapter...

Ok guys, maybe this question has been asked and maybe it has not. I'm typing this on the fly via mobile of course and don't have the time to scour through related forum threads which may or may not be able to help me out.
That said, I have several adapters that I use for packet injection. I have one which has an SMA port for antennas and I bought a 16dBi high gain antenna to use with another project and I am also using with this adapter.
Anyway, I woukd like to be able to use this adapter with its extended range while I'm wardriving.
I have microUSB to Female USB cables for my phone. But connecting a device does little other than power it on.
I need a script that disables the on board WiFi and installs a driver for the secondary adapter and then enables it. Or perhaps there is an app out there that makes this easier.
Anyone have any suggestions or solutions to this dilemma I'm facing?
Thanks in Advance!
PAinguIN
C'mon guys, this is the TOP mobile device (particularly Android) forum in the world. I've been a member for years... I know someone on here has something I can try or a complete solution. I know that this has been successful on the Droid Milestone but that's a bit of an older phone.
Any help would be appreciated...
Thanks again..

google "pwnpad" maybe you find something you can use, also the wifi adapter they use is cheap and support packet injection and external antennas.

Ok, I have not tried this yet but if it works in anyway similar to how it would on a laptop then I should succeed. Using either "Linux Deploy" or Complete Linux Installer" I can install various Linux distros on my phone virtually. Even custom images can be used. But by stock you can install Ubuntu, Debian, (not sure why they offer both), Backtrack, Kali (again, unsure why they offer both) and several other Linux distros.
If I install Backtrack, which I know supports the adapter I want to use when running from live cd or live usb from a laptop (or even Kali Linux) then it should also work on my device. It's all about the drivers and disabling the devices built in WiFi adapter....
I have to take my phone back to stock due to some issues which have recently occurred. I will S-Off first probably, then return to Stock, re-root and after I recover my contacts, programs, etc, etc, I will attempt to install a virtual image of either BT5 or Kali and see what happens.
Again, I will keep updated this thread. If it works then everyone with an M7 from Sprint will be able to utilize this method.
:fingers-crossed:

I think the problem with the Pwnpad source code is that, it's written for Nexus 7

Hmmm, interesting... I actually have a Nexus 7 - 32GB 1st gen, it's a nice, smooth tablet but doesn't hold a candle many other devices out there. If I had my choice of device to turn in to a "hacking" tab, uh, Phablet... I would choose the Galaxy Note 3.
Check out the arena....
http://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/Google-Nexus-7-2013,Samsung-Galaxy-Note-3,Samsung-Galaxy-Mega-6.3/phones/8021,7984,7805
But, aside from that... You would think that you would only be limited to any devices hardware capabilities... Technically, we could probably take an old Toshiba or Acer Iconia tablet, install and/or run either BT5 or Kali virtually on top of whatever version of Android the device is running and have near the same capabilities that you would with a laptop.
If/when I figure out a way to use my Alpha AWUS036NH on any of the devices I own I'll be able to wardrive and pick up networks from nearly and 1/8th - 1/4 of a mile away. No exaggeration. Utilizing a 16dBi omni directional antenna instead of the measly 5 dBi that's included make an enormous difference.
But, rather or not it will work so easily running BT5 or Kali virtually over JellyBean or ICS compared to the ease of a live/virtual/physical installation of either OS on a laptop or PC will only be known once it has been tried. I wish I had more free time to do what I truly love to do with technology instead of the repetitive and thankless administration tasks I perform at work... The grass is always greener though... Lol!
One of these weekends I'll get something going, and I'll post it and hopeflly save peeps that $899. The only thing they will have to pay for will be the adapter(s) they choose to utilize and the tablet, phablet, or even phone that they want to use The rest will be open source and included with (hopefully) current and future releases of Kali Linux now that BT5 is suddenly and abruptly "dead". Did that catch anyone else by surprise or just me? Lol!
