[Q] Can't connect in BTLD mode - HD7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm a Android Developer who is a complete noob when it comes to WP7. I purchased an HD7s on craigslist and it has the demo mode loop issue. Before everyone start the "stolen" argument. This was purchased from a legitimate seller of used phones. I'm not interested in warranties, I just want the phone to work.
I was able to find the stock Schubert ROM and download it, but when I going into BTLD mode I can't connect to the PC. I am on Windows 7 64x. I have tried Zune and Windows Mobile Device Center. Nothing will see it in BTLD mode.
Any help is appreciated. I think if I can just get a connection in BTLD mode it will work so any help there would be great.

hi BitModDev, your Bootloader version is 3.xx
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1295068
1. Download ROM of choice. Shipped ROMs are available, here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/HTC_HD7/Shipped_Roms)
2. Extract RUU_Signed.nbh (if Shipped ROM) or RUU_Unsigned.nbh (if Custom ROM). note. flashing a RUU_Signed.nbh will also replace device's R/HSPL to OSPL of ROM.
3. Bring device into Bootloader and connect to PC via USB.
4. Flash extracted .NBH using task 29. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16370917&postcount=1)
5. Once flash successfully finishes, disconnect device from USB.
6. Enjoy new ROM.
(For BTLD (Boot Time Loadable Driver) mode, bring your HD7 into Bootloader mode & it'll show Serial. When you connect to Windows 7, it'll show USB & run PDA Phone ROM Update Utilility, follow the instructions)
Happy Trying

I get to the point where I am in bootloader mode and running the Rom Update utility. However it sits on the "Verifying the information on your PDA phone...Please Wait..." screen for about 30secs and then I get a connection error. The phone shows USB, but Zune and/or Windows Mobile Device Center do not show a connection.
In device manager the phone shows up as: "HTC USB Sync"

Hi BitModDev,
You can find the mean of the error here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254671
BTW try to close Zune before you run the ROM Update Utility

OK, here is the info from that thread:
u ERROR [260] : CONNECTION
This error occurs when there is an “open port error” before upgrading the CE ROM image.
Solution: You can reset the device and run RUU again. If you still encounter an “OPEN PORT ERROR” again, reset your computer and try again.
Not sure how to fix that, any additional info?

I tried it on another computer and it got past the 260 error. I will update if it works. Thank you for all your help!

Hope you enjoy HD7 WP7

I think what finally worked was doing a factory reset and them flashing the new ROM before it reverted into the DEMO mode.
Just thought I'd add that as it might help others with this issue.

Still not connecting?
So I have an HD7 SPL 5.12?
It connected once to my computer and now it no longer connects...
I tried this on a laptop and same issue.
Is there a way to wipe the BOOT OS completely?

What is it that your trying to do? Downgrade your SPL and Install a custom rom?
You need ActiveSync installed on Windows XP or Windows Mobile Device Center installed on Windows Vista/7 to connect your device.
They contain the appropriate drivers to sync to your PC. Connect the device once the appropriate program is installed on your PC and let the drivers install. Then enter the device into bootloader mode and let the drivers install for the device in bootloader. The bottom white section in bootloader mode will change from "Serial" to "USB" once the drivers install properly.
To check your SPL version enter into bootloader mode and it will tell you or go to Settings, About and More info. Your SPL will be listed as the bootloader version.

[Q] Problem with downgrading..ANSAR need ur attention

hey i have htc hd7, which im trying to downgrade from last one week..its with O2 and has been unlocked coz right now im using it in pakistan , asia...
i want to side load applications but can't get chevronwp7 working...i have read many threads but no ROM i found suits to my hd7..
i also have tried this link, but still doesnot work .......first you need to google the following files and download them. make sure they are the exact named ones:
RUU_Schubert_O2_UK_1.57.728.02_Radio_5.52.09.16_22 .33a.50.10U_Signed_by_ansar
and
RUU_Schubert_HTC_Europe_1.16.401.01_Radio_5.51.09. 06a_22.30.50.09_Signed_SCHUBERT_RELEASE
after you downloaded them extract each of them in to seperate folders. from now you will be working from the folders so put the downloaded files away.
now copy the modelid.fig file from
RUU_Schubert_O2_UK_1.57.728.02_Radio_5.52.09.16_22 .33a.50.10U_Signed_by_ansar folder in to the
RUU_Schubert_HTC_Europe_1.16.401.01_Radio_5.51.09. 06a_22.30.50.09_Signed_SCHUBERT_RELEASE folder.
after you have done this put your hd7 in to dfu mode by power off completly then hold volume down and press power button.
connect usb and make sure were it says seriel to begin with changes to usb.
Now run the ROMUPDATEUtility from inside the RUU_Schubert_O2_UK_1.57.728.02_Radio_5.52.09.16_22 .33a.50.10U_Signed_by_ansar folder you extracted and wait for it to finish and when it does it will show up as an error and put your phone back in to dfu mode which is exactly what you want to happen.
Now run the ROMUPDATEUtility from inside the RUU_Schubert_HTC_Europe_1.16.401.01_Radio_5.51.09. 06a_22.30.50.09_Signed_SCHUBERT_RELEASE folder you extracted and once that has finished voila enjoy your new debranded htc hd7.
this link............. RUU_Schubert_HTC_Europe_1.16.401.01_Radio_5.51.09. 06a_22.30.50.09_Signed_SCHUBERT_RELEASE ............. its only one file named RUU_Schubert_HTC_Europe_1.16.401.01_Radio_5.51.09. 06a_22.30.50.09_Signed_SCHUBERT_RELEASE.exe, its 208mb in size or some thing, there is no ROM update utility.exe in it..so its all fake...

1. Make sure that installed latest zune update
2. Make sure that registry in your PC is:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsPhone\ProxyPorts]

- if not then modify it as above with regedit.exe from windows folder
- Reset your PC
3. Plug in phone and leave Zune running
4. Run chevronwp7.exe, click both checkboxes
5. Click unlock
Beware that after any flash or hard reset you must re install the cer

Hi,
Are you using MS XP?
Regards, ansar

You want to flash a rom but are stuck in spl bootload try this, and make your y cable

Hello, i had a problem with my Htc HD7 so i installed nodo rom again and all actualizations again my bad that did solved my problems with wi fi and got me with a spl that could be decreased with normal methods so i found this methodhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21896081&postcount=286, but it didnt explained me how to make the cable so i found it here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893152 , so here is my experience:
First i had to find those old female cable i had here in the house once i found them i put them like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
then i extracted RUU_Signed.nbh from a Pre-NoDo Shipped ROM and renamed it to SCHUIMG.NBH(only for htc hd7) and copied it to a 8g flashdrive other sizes biger than 1g will work, i allready prepared the file for you guys so you dont have to look for the entire rom here it is its in two parts because of file limitations of mediafire-link part1: http://rapidshare.com/files/2782802394/SCHUIMG.part1.rar
link part2:http://rapidshare.com/files/3550720848/SCHUIMG.part2.rar
So the steps:
important HD7 must be at least 50% battery powered
1- make y-cable like picture
2-copy SCHUIMG.NBH to flashdrive
3-Plug the male conector in to computer
4- plug flash drive in female conector
5-boot your HD7 in USB Loader Mode, very important not in Bootloader!
to do that hold down Power, Volume Down, and Camera button! all at the same time.
6- With the cable provided with your HD7 conect your phone to the other end of the female conector
7-Now you Hd7 start to recognize the file SCHUIMG.NBH and the process begins , your phone will start reboot several times until it finishes.
8- Put your phone in Bootloader mode hold power and volume down
Then you can install a shiped rom provided here: part1:http://rapidshare.com/files/891722600/RUU_Schubert_HTC_Europe_1.60.401.01_Radio_5.52.09.16_22.33a.50.10_Signed_SCHUBERT_RELEASE.part1.rar part2:http://rapidshare.com/files/390128157/RUU_Schubert_HTC_Europe_1.60.401.01_Radio_5.52.09.16_22.33a.50.10_Signed_SCHUBERT_RELEASE.part2.rar
9-Put your phone in Bootloader mode hold power and volume down,
conect to your computer
and then useHSPL / RSPL for HTC WP7 First Generation provided here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16189671&postcount=1
And now you are free to install any rom you want on your HD7 !
It worked for me very well!
Thanks to sh4d0w86 , Cotulla and viperbjk
If you think this is useful for you please press the Thanks button
TNX ruyzalim,
I build the cable, and it works well on my HD7.
Now I'm installing Nextgen+ Rom )

Hey buddy! Just wanted to make sure that your in USB host mode and not in bootloader mode. Volume down + press the camera button together and power on the device. The screen will show an image of the device hooked to a computer.
Also if your SD card doesn't have the goldcard code installed on it, you'll get the message "Not allow".
Does anyone know where i can buy one of these wires from, I have tried making my own but it didn't work sadly :/

Yeah you can buy one from Amazon here:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0041CFFBM/ref=redir_mdp_mobile?qid=1334327842&ref_=sr_1_17&sr=8-17
Alot of times home made Y cables don't work because they are too long in length and that causes a problem with transferring the data. So I would try and shorten the cables on yours first and also make sure you have everything connected to the right ends and then try it again.

Take a look at Shadows tutorial, it explains the process and steps. Since your bootloader is 5.xxx you will have to either use the goldcard/Ycable method to downgrade your OSPL from 5.xxx to under 3.xxx to install RSPL/HSPL and then you can flash a custom rom of your choice.

hello you can use this tutorial in this page !! is very intuitive and explains how to build the y-cable!
regards
I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. I made my cable and I got my phone to the grey screen that says "Enter USB Host Mode. .", and my flash drive lights up but the phone doesn't do anything. I've also tried hooking everything up with my phone on the screen with the picture of a phone plugging into a computer, and still nothing happens.
What am I missing here?

Try this...these are some common problems with getting stuck in USB host mode:
Sometimes if the Y cable is too long in length it won't work properly in transferring the data.
There are 2 .nhb files, so make sure your downloading the correct .nbh file (ruu_signed.nbh) and rename the ruu_signed.nbh to SCHUIMG.nbh Has to be capitalized letters when renaming the file.
Make sure the correct ends are plugged in where they should be.
Sometimes the camera button will get stuck in and prevent the device from flashing correctly.
Make sure the SD card is wiped clean and place the file inside the SD card and patch it with the goldcard tool.
Try a different flash drive/card reader.

Try this...these are some common problems with getting stuck in USB host mode:
Sometimes if the Y cable is too long in length it won't work properly in transferring the data.

Out of all of those things, the only thing that I think might be wrong is my flash drive, which sucks because this is the only one I have. :\

That's usually the most common problem too... A card reader and small SD card like a 1gb to 4gb work the best, you can use larger SD cards but you should partition it and needs to be formatted to FAT32

Yeah, I initially tried it with an 8GB flash drive and it wasn't working, but I found an old 8GB microSD lying around so I bought a card reader and it worked like a charm! Thanks for all your help!

It should work just fine! Try it out... Sometimes you have to switch around the connections on the female ends of the cable, between the SD card reader and the power supply to see what one sends and which one receives data and it should work perfectly.

Forgot to mention the phone is second hand so could it be that a custom rom has been installed on to my phone and that is stopping zune from updating it?

That is very well possible...most custom roms don't allow updating through Zune but some custom roms do, although it's not recommended.
You can check to see if it's unlocked by:
1. Enter into bootloader mode and see if you have HSPL by Cotulla installed - Power off device, hold down the volume down button and power the device back on, while continuing to hold down the volume down button. This will bring you into a tri-colored screen, which is bootloader mode.
2. Go to settings, about and more info. Check your Firmware version, it should be a series of numbers like - 22.22.16.1.201. If it's a custom rom it should say the name of the rom... like mine says Deepshining instead.
3. Do you have applications installed like, WP7 RootTools, Touch Explore or XAP Deployer/Installer.
4. When you start your device, one of the splash screens should be the name of the custom rom.

When your in bootloader mode, in the white section was there "Serial" displayed?
Also check and make sure that there isn't a program running on your computer that is preventing Windows Update Services from accessing the Internet. Programs like your - firewalls, antispyware software, web accelerators, Internet security or antivirus programs, or proxy servers.
You may have to temporarily diasable your antivirus or change the setting to a lower protection.
Still Stuck

install a stock rom, if the pc recognize the phone, then you can install the custom (dynamics), just look that the unknown device is nothing like this:
USB\VID_0000&PID_0000
if this is the problem, the only solution is a new Transceiver, the usb port is broken(burned, fried, you get the idea...), the cost is between $25-$50.
look for HTC HD7 Transceiver or mainboard.

if Bootloader version is 3.xx or 2.xx or 1.xx
download XSPL, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16189671&postcount=1
extract the contents of the rar.
run DFT_RSPL..._LAUNCH.exe
please, read information text. select 'Next' button.
power off device and enter Bootloader.
connect device via USB to PC, 'Serial' will change to 'USB' once connected properly.
select 'Next' button on the XSPL wizard and it should now detect your device.
note. do not proceed if OSPL is 5.xx or 4.xx, instead go to Step 05.
select the closest OSPL, on the wizard, to the one on device.
select 'Next' button. wait until wizard proceeds to final page. read and close window.
note. device must boot into Bootloader.
if Bootloader reads RSPLX.Y.Z and CotullaRSPL, then RSPL was successful.
continue to Step #30 or #38.

The Dynamics 2.2 ROM ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1523991 ) has all the Nokia apps pre-installed,
The Deepshining 8.1 doesn't, you will need to install them manually

Here's the link http://d-h.st/4d6
Yes,but like I said,I tried twice to install it,and task 29 said that device is not connected,
I followed task 29 steps,and it says.
2.Establish an ActiveSync connection with your Pda Phone.
I think this is the problem why it doesn't work,becuse there is not ActiveSync for Windows 7,but I installed Windows Mobile Device Center,but still no luck,what i noticed is that my PC can see the phone in Windows Mobile Device Center only if i turn on Zune,emidietly if I turn of Zune,Windows Mobile Device Center says that device is not connected,and trouble is that when phone is in Bootloader,Windows Mobile Device Center and Zune don't recognize it.

Plug your USB cable in your PC without your phone connected, now turn off your phone and press power on + volume down on your phone and the colour screen will pop up at the bottom it will say "Serial", now you will need to plug in your USB cable that was already connected to your PC and the drivers will install and if you have done everything right it will says "USB" at the bottom of your screen
