Bionic Sim Unlocker - Motorola Droid Bionic

I wanted to know is there anyway i could unlock my bionic to work with any sim card i am planing on moving to the UK and i would love to take my phone with me. As of now i have my phone on cricket. i love my phone i really dont want to see it go.

Get it sim unlock, and look around the forums...

Won't do any good buddy. The sim in the bionic is for LTE only. The bionic doesn't run on the GSM networks that a GSM sim card will do any good. The bionic is a "semi global" phone, which means it'll only work in countries running CDMA networks.
There's plenty of websites advertising sim unlocks, and i went through one a well trying to get mine unlocked a well. After a month with no codes, I had to argue for another week for a refund. If it works for you, let the rest of us know how you did it. But I see no possible way since the radios don't support it.

i think verizon offers $459 and amazon offers $549~ but how can i buy the phone with $459 price?
and can i return it if i cant get activated on pageplus
You need a verizon account to purchase the phone, or find a friend that does. The d3 should work on pageplus as its not a new 4glte device that requires a sim to activate, uses an old school *228 activation

what does that mean??
If I buy the phone from Amazon wireless will it be unlocked, that is, can it work anywhere in the world on any GSM provider's SIM?
A proper answer would be much appreciated.
I seriously wanna buy this phone and I am willing to pay the $550 price at Amazon wireless, if and only if, the phone is unlocked.
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the D3 isn't a GSM phone. I'm pretty sure its only a global cdma

The Droid 3 is a GSM and CDMA handset, it is mentioned in the verizon manual for this handset that a sim card can be inserted, currently it is suspected however that this is sim locked.
http://cache.vzw.com/multimedia/mim/mot_droid3/droid3.pdf
Go to the Global Phone section in this PDF and it is mentioned
It is a global phone that supports GSM networks. Arguing over it won't help us much. What will help is an answer to which version of the phone is unlocked for all GSM networks.
Its is a GSM global phone, includes a Verizon SIM that is locked. Verizon customers in good standing can get the phone unlocked with a call to Verizon Global support.

Hmmm....yes, but the question here is whether the phones with no contract are also SIM locked or not.
hi guys, can anyone answer my question
So, here's the response I got from the Amazonwireless guys:
{I'm very sorry but the replacement phones (phone only no service) on Amazonwireless are locked to the carriers. You would need to find an unlocked phone.
There are basically two types of unlocked phones. CDMA Unlocked and GSM Unlocked.
An Unlocked CDMA phone will basically work with carriers like Verizon, Alltel, and Sprint. Unlocked GSM phones work with carriers such as AT&T and T-Mobile.
Unlocked cell phones are designed to work with any carrier that uses SIM cards. Some advanced features may not work depending on the carrier you are using. I would recommend contacting the carrier you are going to be using to ask if the phone you are interested in will work with their network, and if there are any features that you would not be able to use.
If you would like to shop for an unlocked cell phone please visit Amazon.com using the link below
www(dot)amazon(dot)com/cellphones
I hope this information helps. We look forward to seeing you again soon.}
Thomaslau it means that this phone still needs to be activated using *228 which pageplus accepts. 4gLTE phones do not use *228, they use a sim card to activate

so it will works???
What my understanding is with CDMA is that it's ALWAYS unlocked. The problem lies with carriers not allowing foreign ECID/IMEI's on their network database which allows the phones to work.
Should work flawless

ok, now i got my droid 3, but i struck at the activation menu, the one with the android robot. what should i do to activate my phone on pageplus?? do i need to activate my phone on verizon then pageplus?
I thought with pageplus you call them, give them the esn from the back of the phone, starts with a000000, then dial *228 when they tell you to

Subsidy Unlock and You. Well, Them.

I've been doing a lot of research on this but I'm still coming up short on a few answers.
I'm considering purchasing a Droid 3 but here's my particulars:
My personal service is V-dub. Business service is AT&T. Assuming I unlock the Droid3 can I use the V-dub service while I'm stateside and leave the AT&T SIM on-board the device? If so, is it possible to switch between AT&T/VZW service via software?
When I'm traveling international would I be able to switch to the AT&T SIM service without racking up mad billz on the VZW side of the house?
ANyone with some experience on this would be appreciated. If I can't do all this with one device then I'm leaning to buy a Nexus S.
I wanna say you can because your phone allows you to switch between GSM/Global/CDMA.
I believe this can work with the XT860 model from canada, the US XT862 however, cannot move between US carriers, but can be used anywhere outside the US
At least, that's what I've gathered from lurking here for a while.

According to a guy at this link Team Black Hat sells a *full* unlock code for the 3's which will allow it. This is unconfirmed but I'm Googling...
if i recall correctly, TBH offered a version of the D2G baseband firmware which they'd modified to run on any network, this cost you $100 and you had to mail it to them
i believe Cellzealot has stated that this method wont work on the D3

TBH released the band unlock to the public couple of months ago.It is now free. It only works on the oldest D2G radio firmware. Newer firmwares cannot be unlocked since Motorola moved the protection inside baseband which due to locked boot loader cannot be modified. This method will not work on D3 for the same reason.

New user droid 3 xt862 - assistance

Hello guys, I just goot this device used from someone in the US. It is locked on GSM, but rooted.
At this I am most interested in getting it unlocked and explore further which is, learning bootstrapping, changing recovery and loading custom roms.
I spoke to Verizon extensively today and was told, they wouldn't be able to give me the unlock code unless it was activated on the network. After a long conversation, the global support team suggested that if I know someone in the US on the Verizon network, what could possibly be done is activating this phone on their current contract, right away share the unlock code and move the Verizon user to their previous phone. All on one call, with a feww minutes? Do Verizon users or with similar experience share their insight, if this would work out with getting an unlock code from them?
I don't really want to go through the idea of finding someone, going through the call and finding out, the person I spoke to was mistaken about all this possible on a single call..
Any other ways to unlock the phone? I don't like the idea of paying money to a website for the unlock code and possibly the code not working, with no refunds.
I've already spent on the phone with the risk of not ever being able to unlock it.
I know, there are threads with unlocking info, but a lot of users I realized were still unable to unlock their phones.
Looking forward to expert insights, and thanks a load everyone!
Cheers.

To add, I am not physically in the US, neither is the phone. Phones GSM bands are apparently compatible with the GSM networks in my country.
Thanks!

Unfortuanlty that is the only way to unlock an xt862. Unless it has never been activated on verizons network. As I understand it verizon changes the sim unlock code upon first activation. Even if that is the case you will still need a code from an unlock site(or possibly your nearest cell repair store)

Ok. Unlock4Moto.com is where I am currently planning to purchase it from - they don't have specific verizon codes, but motorola xt862 in general.
Really really hoping, that verizon didn't change the lock code during its few months of activation.
Scared now of not having to use the device as only a PDA..
Thanks for the response.
Can others also pls share their experiences, thanks!

Ya if its been activated previously the code from unlock4moto will probably fail. In addition if you have too many fails the phone will go into susbsidy lock(or something similar) and will need a PUK(personal unlock code) from verizon to even be functional. You could try just calling verizon repeatedly and explain your perdicament to a new agent each time until you find one that will just give you the sim unlock code. I do believe that it needs to be connected to verizons network at the time though there are several threads of ppl who have had this same problem. Its pretty ****ty. I might recommend selling it and getting the xt860 model. Its easier to unlock and is also global GSM.

That really sounds crappy :-( I do although plan to buy one and see what happens. Just hoping, I am lucky. Else, I will trt and resort to finding someone from verizon to help me with the situation.
In regards to selling it, I purchased the phone in the us with a friends address almost a month back, and received it in hand just today. Really wouldn't want to sell it yet or thar I might not even find a buyer for a locked phone in my country.
Tough situation I am in, thanks though and wish me luck!

You can bypass the Verizon setup by tapping the four corners of the setup window. At least this will make the phone useable.
That would make the phone usable as a PDA (wifi only), but I think he mentioned that wasn't his goal. Still good info to have while waiting for unlock though.
OP, the phone definitely needs to be activated on a Verizon account temporarily so it can communicate with their system for unlock code to work. Maybe you can place an ad on craigslist offering some money or something similar. People have nothing to lose by helping you if they don't have a global phone or if they never travel outside the US. If they've already done it before, I believe they have to wait ten months before they can unlock another phone on their line. Just fyi.
Good luck!

Ahh here's another catch then. But I guess, someone who doesn't travel out might be willing.
Btw, just a quick question, so like the support person told me that I can get the phone activated on Verizon without the phone having to be physically in the US, can someone confirm that's possible?
Also, while at it, if someone on XDA is willing to help me with the situation, it would be awesome! I don't mind looking at the option of a monetary incentive for the assistance.
Thanks!

True-ish
Having been through the SIM unlock route myself, here is what I found out. The Droid3 Sim unlock code modification is presented in the first Over The Air (OTA) update. And it doesn't effectively change the code. It adds a modified algorithm to the existing code which has to match up to the one they provide you with. Just like an md5 sum would be incorrect if anything is missing or altered. If the phone is or is returned to the original software that came on the phone (i.e. SBF / Fastboot / Flash) then this algorithm is not present in the firmware and thus the code you recieve from a third party vendor should work. I would surf around and find a trusted source with a strong reputation. When you find a company that states they can do it for you then ask them what their success rate is with the Droid 3 in particular.
As far as the subsidy lock......mine was just like the droid 2 global, when I tried too many attempts it subsidy locked on me ( I was trying different variations that I found in different areas of RadioComm to see if I could circumvent the system, finally gave up). I didn't touch it and let it sit on the subsidy lock request screen for about an hour and it asked me again for the sim unlock code. I finally got the right code through my inderect agent rep and voila. Hope this helps. I've been unlocking a rack of Droid2 and 3 for myself and friends lately, so if any of the information provided is cross-device (I sometimes get confused) then hopefully a guru will correct me. But this is to the best of my recollection.
If you haven't succeeded in about a week I'll be having my acct transferred from an employee line to a consumer acct and I can help you with swapping it to my service briefly and getting in touch with global support. Just pm me or send a message to my gmail - same username queberican351
take care and best of luck

Hey thanks for the info. All of it made lots of sense. So at this point i am hoping that the OTA update didnt happen on device in its lifetime with the first owner although I am almost sure its highly unlikely.
I am currently most inclined towards unlock4moto.com for the code, hoping it works out.
Regarding flashing the OS version to the factory default version, I will try learning how to flash the roms on this device since I think the way to flash roms on motorolas are pretty different to other phones.
And thanks, really really appreciate the offer of helping me out if I don't succeed in a week.
Thanks!

Good news guys. The code from unlock4moto.com worked perfectly.
This makes me think that Verizon doesn't change the code on their network, because the phone was used for a couple months on their network prior to being detached from their network.
But there's another sad news too, which is, right after being unlocked I had to give it to my sister.. So I guess I will stick around to my Desire Z for another while.
Thanks everyone who helped me get my direction right and opted to help me, cheers!

[Q] Bionic as ipod touch(activation)

So im interested in getting the droid bionic and using it as an ipod touch alternative...Im not interested in the samsung 4 or 5 player..ive already checked them out.. The main question here is if I got it would I be able to go through all the activations (this will not be used as a phone..only wifi) if not is there ways around that.. Im aware there is a bypass for the activation with the droid logo but not so sure of the sim activation... Or would I be able to root it and disable these activations...thanks

Honestly if your looking for a good phone I recommend Motorola, but since your looking for a media device I'd recommend HTC or Samsung. HTC and Samsung make great devices, its just the radios and speaker/mic quality is bad so they are horrible as phones. Motorola makes great phones but due to their locked down nature I stay away if its anything other than a phone. If you decide on HTC steer clear of the t bolt, it has bad build quality.
Thanks for the reply... Do the samsung or htc phones have the sim lock...Im still wondering if theres a way around the sim lock on the bionic too... Is there a thread with information like what im talking about??Thanks..
You may want to try a 3g device. Droid X2 possibly. They don't have sim cards.

Not sure what you mean by SIM lock? I have been using a bionic and RAZR with no SIM just fine (except for the annoying reminder, but if you root it you should be able to figure out how to disable it)
Yes there is a way around a sim-lock.
Go online and purchased an unlocked GSM phone.
If you absolutely have to own a bionic then get the European Droid razor which is sim-unlocked.
There are many choices available to you just search for "unlocked phones" on amazon, newegg.com, or eBay.
Be advised that they are a bit more than a locked phone.
You'll be able to use them as wifi only without the need of a sim or cellular service, but can always add it later if you so desire.

What do you guys mean by sim lock? I haven't seen this yet. I have a replacement bionic that I've been playing with that doesn't have sim, and a RAZR as well. It may be due to the fact that mine don't stay stock for more than 15 minutes, but before I flashed anything I was able to use all the features except phone and text (which could be done over VOIP) the only thing I see is an icon, that's it, the phones aren't locked in any way.
Sim lock... where do I begin
Let's say you have a phone from at&t, but you want to use your T-Mobile plan with it.
If you remove the at&t sim card and stick in a T-Mobile sim card it will feed you some kind of error, or just not recognize your card preventing you from using your device.
The phone will also prevent you from using certain features until an at&t elm card is inserted.
That is an example of a sim locked phone.
Your phone can be sim unlocked from the carrier or manufacturer via a subsidy/unlock code in order to use sim cards from other carriers.
Or you can always just buy a phone that is already unlocked.
CDMA phones don't use sim cards and need to be flashed to use a different network sim they do not have removable sim cards.
LTE devices on Verizon use LTE for data only. not phone calls. They are still a cdma device.

Yes there is a way. A very easy way...to bypass activation on the Droid Bionic to just use it as a wifi android device
I do not take credit for this..I got this from the web.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
"to bypass the activation on the Droid Bionic launch into safe mode by powering down the device and powering it back up, once the droid eye appears press and hold the volume up and down buttons simutaniously till you see the green android guy, then tap the corners of the screen starting at the top left and going clockwise around. skip the setup and enjoy guys
1) When tapping the top left and top right, do the taps immediately =below= the icon bar, not all the way up in the corners.
2) When tapping the bottom right and bottom left, do the taps immediately =above= the gray emergency dialer/change language bar, not all the way down in the corners.
My thanks to someone-anonymous on Tumblr for step #2 there, and to fnxjames. "

sorry let me rephrase that. you can use the phone overseas immediately.... granting that you're using the Verizon service internationally..... however if you want to use a localized Sim card.... then you need to have your phone unlocked. luckily for you..... Verizon has it in their contract that you can unlock your phone for free. 1 unlock per phone number per account. do a Google search on that and call their customer service. they'll walk you through the steps.
I did it last year when I took my iPhone to Beijing for work and wanted to use a local Sim card instead of racking up international costs...

I'm on unlimited data plan and don't really want to give it up, so looks like for that I'm going to have to buy a phone for a FULL price (( (so no contract for me), I never had "Global phone" but I think it'd be awesome to unlock this phone to the extend where I'd be able to use it overseas with their local SIM card so I don't have to pay some crazy amount of money to hungry Verizon ;p
VZW hasn't sold locked phones in over a year. I can't speak to the X specifically, but the new Droids are virtually identical and my Maxx is getting T-Mobile 1900 MHz 4G right now. I'm not sure if or how well it'll work with some carriers (US Cellular and Sprint, for example) based on their unique spectrum use, but if you're going to AT&T or T-Mobile it should work fine. Do some more research and ask whichever carrier you're switching to; T-Mobile helped me with setting up their APN manually, as my Maxx didn't detect the settings automatically.
Nobody seems to have told Verizon's tech support that the new phones are wide open, so they'll still tell you that any 4G phone they sell is internationally unlocked but "incompatible" with US GSM carriers. That's what they did with phones like the Droid RAZR, RAZR HD, and Galaxy S3: in the firmware which manages APNs, any network with a US country ID would be rejected as "unknown," so you'd typically get voice and SMS but no data.
