Hi,
I have just bought a GN and looking at the storage information screen, I am a little bit puzzled with what I am seeing:
SD Card: no issue - reflecting the 'real' size of my SD.
Internal memory in 2 parts:
-USB Storage: total space 25.51GB
-System storage: available space 1.31GB
Does this mean that I have a 32GB Galaxy note with 2GB Rom space?
Or are the 2GB part of the 32GB?
Many thanks for the clarification.
Phil
Are you sure? 16gbs have only a lil more than 11gb as usb storage... Then it is a 32gb... And available system storage for me is 1.45gb
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
the phone memory is partitioned off for use
normally 1gb fopr the actual rom
then you have 2gb for data/apps
the rest will then be used for storage
a 32gb version will porbably have about 30gb available once formatted so partitioned off yours is showing correct

And, SanDisk also provides a USB reader (looks more like a very cheap version of an USB Stick...

Just thought I'd add that I purchased an 8Gigabyte ScanDisk Card (with USB adapter) for just over £50 (GBP) - $100 (US) and it work like a dream - no access delay and just under 8GB of available space.
I've also heard that ScanDisk are due to release a 16GB version in early 2008?

Hey,
did you need any software update in order make an 8GB card running on XDA STAR. I'm just coming from an O2 store and they gave me an extract of a spreadsheet were they listed the xda star under 2GB max. storage devices.
Any comments?
Cheers,
Yves
I bought the SanDisk Card, just pop it in and everything is set.

It didn't work in my HTC Touch Dual!
I bought a 8GB Sandisk Micro SDHC card... put it in my Touch Dual... and bam... No more than 2GB.
How can that be?

eh? that's worrying, I've an 8gb one coming this week!
8GB Sandisk working perfectly in my Uk T-Mobile Touch Plus. No issues seen at all with it.
Well... My problem here is... Is it the Flash Card that is ****ed up or is it that I have the only Touch Dual in the whole world that doesn't have the capabillity to read 8gb Micro SDHC cards.
I have used a storage tool program to figure out the cards specs(Computer can't read it through the SD adaptor for some reason) and here is what i got:
Total: 1.8 GB
Type: Fat16
Sector Size: 512 Bytes
Cluster Size: 32 KB
For what I know, this should be a Fat32 because Fat16 can't have storage space beyond 2 GB.The rest I don't know because I haven't researched this enough to get a science degree. I have tried to format the card to Fat32 with several Cluster Sizes with no result in getting a bigger storage space.
At some point this seems like a 2GB but on the outside it looks clearly like an 8GB card. So if this is a fake, then it is a pretty damn good one.
What do you think?
slight aside, but madly, i have to pick the card up from the post office depot - how BIG can that parcel be??!!
I've been using an 8GB Sandisk card in my Niki (borrowed from my Kaiser) for a week now. Works fine ...
yup, finally got mine, and no issues!

You have to format the card at FAT32, which goes at 32 Gb. With FAT16 you only see 2Gb.
I don't know if you can do this format in the HTC, otherwise you'll need a new reader for sdhc-cards.
Thank You... I got a New SDHC reader/writer and formatted the card with the Panasonic SDformatter from a link through this forum. It worked and I now have my delicious 8GB storage in my Touch Dual.
Never seen such beautiful 8GB in my life
8Gb works in mine as well
Hows the speed when accessing aps on the 8 gig? is it just as fast as using a 1 gig?
in light of this topic, could you guys suggest anything for this:

Oh well no answers, anyway, my 8gb is here and is working very well
Oddly enough, I'm having problems even with 1 and 2 gig cards. Or rather with active sync, not detecting them. I can't transfer files directly to storage card folder via activesync, I have to either transfer to the device first and then from the device to the card, or transfer directly to the card after taking it out of the nike..
It might be something simple, anybody has any ideas how to solve this? Searched for quite a long time and couldn't find anything..
It's an orange brand niki if that changes anything, btw.
well if any 1 wants to save i found a 8 gig for 37.99 plus shipping

Dear All,
According to SGN specs, it says it supports 16/32GB storage limit. Owing to the fact that it has already internal 16GB storage, could it support an external memory of 16GB or 32GB precisely? Thanks in advance.
yes it supports micro sd cards
the storage they mention is the onboard storage

Yes. So, officially, you can get a maximum of 32+32 to the total of 64.
In practice, 64GB (and even 128GB) have been reported to work fine in the external slot alone, that is in addition to the base of 16/32GB.
e.g.

Well, what I mean is that there are units which COME WITH 32GB of internal base memory.

16gb vs. 32gb?
I'm about go get a GNote and I'm still stuck at the question of 16gb vs. 32gb.
I've been running out of internal memory on my HTC Desire almost daily and lost the possibility of a2sd since I've started dabbling with ICS. So internal memory has been a big issue, and the only one, with my experience with Android so far.
Will 16gb ever become a problem or would you say external memory is more important now?
Thx
the 16gb is split up with 1gb for theflash rom and rom components, 2gb for internal app storage and installation of apps and then 11gb for usb storage
if you can fill up 2gb with apps and data then you have too many installed
the desire only had 512 for flash rom which 150 was accessible for the user
What is maximum size of microsd card for GT-I9000 (with 8G internal memory(card))?
I have 8G microsd, but does it support bigger?
I use custom rom (of course )
ps. And yes, even 16G memory is not enough (because of lots of music )
why not keep a couple of 8gb in your wallet? they are so cheap you can buy a bunch.
Ive been checking my settings but could not find 16GB

It's the amount of internal storage your device has, although some of it is allocated for the system partition and other things. It has roughly 10gb I believe for user data.
Let me check it again to verifie..
Could it be this: (see first post)
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
16gb is partitioned as follows :
1gb - rom/system/data
2gb - user apps/data
11gb or so - usb mass storage
so there is your space
Have you you bought a hard drive? Sure I have a 3TB drive but after formating I'm lucky to have 2.7 TB left. The 16GB is just raw space once partitioned and formated you will never have 16GB. There are some loses in space depending upon what file system you use. All file systems have to have some space set aside for cacheing and system information.
Thanks I Understand now..

I've one additional question.
What about system space ? It's a place where i can install apps ? Only 1.88 gb ?
Yes "only" 2GB for apps..
As far as I can tell, no phone ever had more than 2GB "except Galaxy Nexus" and most of them did not even reach that capacity..

2gb is the unformatted size, once formatted you will always lose some space

And besides, a lot of large apps like GPS navigation apps or games only store the main program in the apps partition and use another partition or even your external SD card to store data. With the majority of apps not even exceeding 10 or maybe 20MB you can install hundreds of apps.
LOL you are talking about a 16GB my brother got the LG P970 that phone says it has 2GB internal and he has about 1.1GB fir usage now that's a joke, nor being able to use music on the phone.
I do regret getting the 16GB maybe 32GB would have been better but who knows might get a 64GB MicroSD many say it works flawless might be worthy I think...

Well, you do need an operating system, don't you? When you buy a 64GB SSD and install Windows you're left with about 50GB or so as well.

Hey guys , I am thinking to get Galaxy s2 tablet , probably 8 inch variant, but before I jump on I just want to make sure , does this tablet (8 inch variant ) fully support 200 gb sd card ?
EDITED ::: YES IT DOES FULLY SUPPORT 200 GB SD CARD !!
I have a 200 in my 9.7
I have a SanDisk ultra 200gb, configured 65% (128gb) for external storage and the rest 70gb as internal adoptable storage. It works just great. :good:
I have the 256gb card that I got with my note 7 in my tab s2 now. But it constantly unmounts. My 128gb card did the same. I was hoping it was the card but looks to be the tablet.

How did you do the internal adoptable storage? Does the tab have to be rooted?
Also using the SanDisk 200, no problems.
