GPS FIX for ALL OPTIMUS BLACK ROMs - LG Optimus Black

Hi all i suffered alot due to bad gps of optimus black but when i saw my frind nil0123's P500 fixing gps instantly then i decided to follow p500 settings and what a miracle now my optimus blacks gps works awesome
Here ie my method,
A) Copying FILES
1.Using ES File Explorer goto root/etc
2.Now if u have any privious GPS fix performed remove it,
3.means remove/delete old gps.conf and gps_brcm_conf.xml files.
4.Now copy attached files to root/etc
5.Set permissions as follows
gps.conf rw- r-- r--
gps_brcm_conf.xml rwx rwx --x
B)Now perform following in Hidden Menu
1.goto hidden menu using 3845#*970#
2.goto gps test option
3.then goto protocol setting
4.Then goto user plane setting
5.ENABLE SLP AUTO PROVISION
6.Goto SLP setting, then SELECT LGE SUPL
C) Now switch ON the gps from status bar
D)NOW POWER OFF PHONE and POWER ON (PLEASE DONT REBOOT /do proper power off/on)
E) Install GPS status & toolbox app from market.
F) Switch off wifi & data connections only keep GPS icon ON from Notification Bar.
G) Open GPS status app held your device in open area, whola in 30sec your location will be fixed
THANK ME
Files are attached.
EDIT:- Attached new gps.conf file in GPSFIX2.zip which i optimized after searching and learning more @ gps, and i'm fully satisfied with my OB's gps performance. yesterday itself i used sygic navigation for 50km drive & gps worked perfectly, please try new file.

I am able to get position in ca 10-15 sec using this fix:

Yes maludroid bro i used ur files day before yesterday by changing asia including country severs also but somehow here in india its not possible to fix gps using your files where as the files i posted are from P500 and i didnt change anything in it they are all official files gps.xml is also from stock v20b so its fixing my gps instantly
so i'm going with these files. It completely depends on user. Btw in my sony neo v i saw gps.conf with same ntpserver as gpsonextra.net not pool.ntp.org

I'd appreciate if someone else from India tested this:

Not fixed at all
I have this problem since version 2.2. I've done all the tutorials and tips here at the forum but nothing solves my problem. I've given up using it as a gps device. It's a shame but I can not even get it to work.

sorry to here that, but please try my newly attached gps.conf and gps_brcm_cof.xml. i hope it will solve your problem. but do follow instructions strictly, till yesterday i was also like you not happy but now i'm satisfied man. BTW OB's gps hardware is good only problem in software, i have written @ this gps issue to LG lets hope they help us.

i try this, but not work or else: my gps work fine with "data connection" (a-gps), and with this fix the situation is not improved

No way...

It is with great sadness that I inform you that this process did not work for me. I think I better use a GPS unit for that. But thanks for the tips!

Until a stable version of CM comes out I prefer to stick with the Zeus. My first impression was very good. I was using version # 39 and I stopped using when not mounted USB, then tried it and loved Zeus ROM. Very stable and fast. I do not remember trying to use GPS with the CM. But since I bought my unit had a problem with the GPS.

Do this work for GPS enabled only or we need to use wifi/3G service?
Using the two service gives my location for 3-5 seconds but of course that depends on your 3G speed.

as u can see in attached pic that i have not connected to wifi or 2g/3g. the thing is u just need to download gps data once in a day using gps status & toolbox(it automatically download btw)
EDIT:
Bought new optimus black yesterday for dad and its gps is working awesome in default settings i.e without putting gps.conf file or modification in hidden menu. so i took my old OB to LG customer care, so they told me that they have changed the GPS hardware in new devices manufactured after November 2011. But its not possible to make those changes in old OB :-(

NTP_SERVER=pool.ntp.org
can I change it to:
NTP_SERVER=id.pool.ntp.org

Nice to hear that.
This is for all, i did lots of gps study in last few days. And i came to conclusion that gps.conf file is imp for fast fixing if satalites, but as we know it provides Assisted gps data to sensors but this data changes every 24hrs as our earth rotates, so i did different expiriments with old and new Optimus black and p500 and sony neo V so i came to conclusion that gps hardware is also very important in fixing satalites but before using gps if we use gps status and toolbox app and download Assisted Gps data(hardly10kb) once in a day then gps fix takes very less time, but even though u dont download it, take ur mob under clear sky it will get fix in 2to3mins.
But dont use lots of gps tweaks as it will mess ur gps behavior.
Dont change gps_brcm_cobf.xml file as its related to hidden menu gps tests it doesnt impact on gps improvement so keep lg provided default. In froyo it was big bcos in froyo the hidden menu gps test was different.

Keyboard super tiny as well! Topa100 here! A slow on Angry Birds, but ran fantastically!
Looking forward to see it running from phone memory instead of memory card!!!
Hi,
I hope, it's the same Version I'm trying actually, so here's my feedback:
TOPA100, Gingerbread Release GBX0A dated 12/02, no overclocking
1st impression: running very fast and very stable, no problems with basic functions
problems after detailed check:
1) GSM/3G signal reception is weak in comparison to FRX04 (cannot receive a 3G sig at a place where I usually have one under FRX04 or WiMo)
2) GPS not working
positive things to mention:
1) faster than FRX04
2) wakeup is working stable
3) switching on/off WiFi (have to activate it in WiMo first, of course) works stable even after 12-14 hours
4) Camera not working, but the app doesn't crash in photo mode
5) with a for me "normal" kind of usage (longer standby periods, checking SMS/MMS around every hour, receiving email every 30 minutes, some WiFi action, testing some apps, one or two calls) I have a battery duration time of somewhere between 18 and 24 hours
Conclusion for the devs: why not switching over to Gingerbread?
Cheers
Zap
Good system
Zaphod_b_1 +1
I have the same comments.
I installed FLash 10.1 . It doesn't crash the browser like in froyo. but nothing displays.
The sensor doesn't work so most games and the landscape mode won't work.

Have you got the latest rootfts?
Double checked and updated kernel and rootfs, sdcard mounts but settings show free space and total as unavailable and various apps say there's no sdcard whereas some find it without a problem.

I'm pretty sure the problem is that we're running it off the SD card, so it recognizes that as the phone and then can't find another source, as there isn't one.
Some apps work for me and some don't

Do you want to get quick GPS lock in CM7

Yes, many people are still complain the GPS can't lock(maybe can see satellites) or very slow.
After i saw KarlHegbloom's suggestion to use AngryGPS
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15692063&postcount=6283
But in the beginning i don't know how to let it run, so study and study.....
finally i got it
step1: Download gpsd from trigger build12 in here (gpsd in cm7 or build13 are not stable, it hard to lock, i don't why, maybe birgertime can tell what's the differents)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15696219&postcount=6289
step2:
update 0718 :
s0niqu3 made install apk for angrygps, it's very easy way than mine, you can try it,and directly to step4
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15721652&postcount=13
manual way(mine): download Angrygps.apk in here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15695743&postcount=6288
Use root explore to replace gpsd in system\vendor\bin\
and put angrygps.apk in system\app and change permission
my setting (read check all, write only check first, execute no check), but someone say he need to check all. anyway you can try both.
Reboot, then angrygps, not angrybird is running.
if you are lucky, your gps become fantastic now.
if not. you should long click desktop(need ADW launch)
step3:Create custom shorcut-> chose your application -> Activities -> AngryGPS -> .AngryGPS
After this you will get a angrygps shortcut in desktop.
step4:
Run it and to config as your wish.
tip: I change setting-general setting-operation mode from standalone to msbased. and now i can lock in twenty seconds.
Please test GPS outdoor
BTW, in CM7 you can turn off gps and turn on, it's all ok.
Thanks atinm&birgertime&KarlHegbloom
Do you think having a custom kernel (Glitch's Kernel to be exact) changes anything?.
Im not getting locks
i didn't try this kernel. but if you can see satellites, then it should be ok

For Launcher Pro Users, you can add the shortcut to angrygps with:
long press home screen --> Shortcuts --> Activities --> AngryGps (pick the first one)
Also, when I first did this gps would not start for me. Nothing happened, no gps icon. I needed to change the permissions on gpsd to include execute and the reboot. Looking good now.
Also I am getting fast locks leaving it in standalone mode.

Seems just fine with maps.
I have not tested navigation.
Does this work with any MIUI builds?
Hey everyone,
So first, this mod seems to work quite well on my phone, admittedly I'm in shock at having locks in just a minute or so, and accuracy under ~10meters. I'll withold final judgment until I've used it for a couple of days.
In the meantime though, here's a modified version of AngryGPS.apk that will show up in your launcher drawer without the need of bettercut/adw/launcherpro/etc.
Its been re-signed by me, so the signature won't match the original version posted, so you must remove the original and clear all its data first.
If you installed it normally, just uninstall through manage applications, else if you pushed the app to /system/app then you need to do:
adb shell
su
cd /system/app
rm -r AngryGPS.apk
cd /
cd /data/data
rm -r com.android.angryGps
Anyway, thanks for the fix, and enjoy.
Cheers,
Whoa...fast.
16 feet accuracy inside.

[ROM][R2] HoneyStreak HD7 2.0 RELEASE 2(3.2)

update 18/08/2011
changed some minor things here, and split build into 2 versions
changelog:
Added ad-hoc wifi support
Added a cool new feature that im not revealing yet, little challenge for you folks
Split build into 2 versions, one for wi-fi only devices and one for 4g ones, wifi only build is exactly same as 4g except all the 3g/4g related services and apps have been removed - should save battery somewhat
hello again folks,
some good news here and some bad news.
firstly this builds being released as a Release version as its pretty much 100% working now,
screenshots are unfortunatly broken again though as ive had to replace alot of files to get rest working, its a kernel related issue and cant be easily fixed until dell drop the kernel next month hopefully.
changelog:
Rebased Yet Again onto a newer 3.2 device build,
Fixed MTP Usb support so mounting of storage is alot more usable
hacked the hell out of most of the system apps to get them working right for streaks screen res.
launcher works properly again
default lcd density of 120 again which is perfectly usable.
camera supports upto 720p video, 1080p doesnt work right so removed the ability for now
resized the partitions so that their is about 6gb for apps and data and ~8.1gb remaining for user storage - thats a issue in the way honeycomb manages storage
1080p and 720p video playback works perfectly also
Install Instructions:
1. Download the streakdroid zip from below, this contains all the files and drivers required to flash your device to honeycomb
2. Extract the zip to a folder on your pc - I recommend c:\flash and will use that path in this example
3. Backup your streak7 internal storage if you have not already as it WILL BE WIPED
4. Backup your streak7 internal storage if you have not already as it WILL BE WIPED
5. Backup your streak7 internal storage if you have not already as it WILL BE WIPED
6. Turn off your 7 and unplug the usb cable from it, then hold BOTH volume keys down and connect the usb cable, if done correctly your pc should detect the apx device. choose to update the driver, choose the second option then let me choose from a list, choose have disk then navigate to c:\flash\usbpcdriver and choose the only one it shows (Nvidia boot recovery driver for mobile devices)
7. Double click the Download.bat file in the c:\flash directory and wait a while it will take some time depending on the speed of your pc and usb ports.
8. Once the box disappears hold down power on your 7 untill dell logo appears (can take a little while) then wait for a few mins for some honeycomb tasting goodness.

Alright, I will start buggy testing this and get back to you... it just booted. WOOHOO!!
Bug 1, can't install anything. I've tried to install things from the market and from my card... no go. Just say's "Cannot open file" .
Edit: Rebooted twice to see if that would fix the problem... no go.
didnt get that here, tho i suspect i know the issue,
replace the files in the flash folder with the ones attached, and reflash
edit: sorry fixed the files in the attached zip now, it should flash
Flashed it just now. nice boot animation.

Now I get a System.img too large for partition when trying to flash. DOH!

Looks Amazing. Market is working here for me ( WIFI Only DS7 )
PS
On a side note. Is there any way you could create the same kind of setup so its easy to flash the stock partitions back? I know how to get it working via nvflash but this would make recovery so much faster lol
Market working now, everything seems to work, bluetooth, youtube in landscape and portrait and the camera is working perfect. I have to lower the lcd density to 105 for the kindle to app work but no biggie. This is perfect, don't really see a need for an official build from Dell now.
Although I kinda miss the launcher icons from the asus transformer build and the weather widget, anyone know how to port those over?

I bought an app from the market that worked for me from beansoft https://market.android.com/details?id=com.beansoft.lcd_density_changer
It saves the lcd density permanently to the appropriate file. I have mine set to 105 for the kindle app to work.

[FAQ][Buglist]P970 MIUI Port(by Frankenstain & Flatzki)

This is an auxiliary thread, created to help developers The Frankenstain and Flatzki with the porting of MIUI to Optimus Black.
Please check to see if your question has been answered here before pestering the thread in the development section. That thread is only to thank them, give support or any other specific request by the developers themselves.
This will be updated with each release of their beta.
FAQs start here:
___________________________________________
Q:Can I just ask all of these issues on their thread?
A:I, as well as everyone else, will bash you and call you names if you do.
Q:Is this ROM good for daily use? how is the stability?
A:This ROM is mostly ready for daily use, yes, some things remain to be fixed, but stability is really good, and so is overall smoothness.
Q: Does Hardware acceleration work?
A:Not fully, video can't be recorded at 720p as of version 2.0 and lower video resolutions are color shifted.
Q: Does Camera(for pictures) work?
A:Yes, fully and at all resolutions.
Q: Do Sensors(accelerometer, etc...) work?
A:Yes, fixed in 2.0.
Q: Does this MIUI build allows us to pull down the notification panel from a fullscreen app?
A:Yes, yes it does.
Q:I took a screenshot with the built in feature but I can't find it !
A:If you're using 1.0 it's in the /cache folder (use a root explorer). In 1.5 (credit to gsal for noticing this) there is an error saving to the SD card and images can only be captured when the sd card is not mounted. The location they're saved in is /data/sdcard/MIUI/
Q:My carrier is definitely not a huge string of numbers, what do I do?
A:Open up MIUI control panel app->statusbar->Carrier options and set the custom carrier to your liking(or just hide it).
Q:How do I change how the battery is displayed?
A:Settings->System->Battery->Battery indicator style.
Q:Is the MIUI Theme manager working
A:Yes, fully.
Q:Is GPS working?
A:Not for me, as well as some other users, but developers say it does, so it might be device or location specific.
Try this if it doesn't: GPS FIX
Q:Can I use Huexxx's kernel with this ROM?
A:Since v2.1 it's already included.
Q:Is this ROM in my language?
A:Yes, if it's one of these:
Deutsch
English
Español
Français
Hebrew
Italiano
Polski
Russian
Chinese
Q:What is the difference with that other MIUI rom from flatzki?
A:That was a patchrom, this is a port, which gives the devs more control over their rom. As well as this version having less of CM7 (ie: no CM7 settings)
Q: Does it use Aroma installer?
A:Yes, although no customisation is available as of v2. 1
Q:Can I switch music tracks with volume keys?
A:Yes, it is implemented since v1.5
Q:When will this rom... ?
A:Just wait patiently, the devs already know what is and what is not working and are troubleshooting those issues. Asking for ETA's is morally unacceptable (this applies to all of XDA too.)
Q:How is the battery life?
A:Using only 2g and some wifi, I got easily 20+ hours with medium use, considering drain overnight is very low.
Q: Does USB mass storage mode work?
A:Yes, It also remembers your choice for automatic mounting.
Q:Wifi is not reactivating after screen off
A:Set the sleep policy to never sleep.

Usb works flawlessly on v1.5 both manually activating mass storage mode and remembering your choice to do so automatically.
EDIT:
What are the apps that you can't restore? I had no problem with any of mine.

About the call end bug.
Since the sensors are not working, removing the phone from ur face will not turn on the screen. So u are left to press the power button to "unlock" the screen so u can press the end button. Thats when it gets stuck.
The only bypass is to let the other person hang up first.

First of all i envy you because i recently suffered torn cruciate ligaments and i need surgery but in greece it is impossible atm.regarding the gps it finds 5 satellites max.i think that it won't be able to maintain the signal for a long distance.i asked flatzki if it is possible to attach a setup like cm7 in zeus rom.i think that works great.overall the rom kicks @ss and the language pack works perfect except from the vibration.everything is in greek.

Sorry to hear that, I wish you the best of luck with your injury.
Yeah this rom is great, I only need the ability to switch to 2g manually and i'll be happy.Don't really care that much about GPS, would be nice to have it fully functional though.

Thank you very much.i think that the gps will be fixed sooner or later.the highlight for me is theming.awesome work.and it is even greater if you think that some ppl said that with no stable cm no miui.it seems to me that little things are missing for full stability.and is definitely suitable for daily use.

Gps help in helly bean rom

Hey there,
I'm using helly bean rom - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1783064.
My GPS barely works and I wanna fix it.
Actually, my gps worked great only with this ICS rom - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1611868.
Can someone help me to get my gps work fine with the helly bean rom?
By the way I'm from Israel.
that is because most of the GPS fixes you will find here are for North America, I would suggest flashing this.
Tnx
Hey,
Thank U!
I couldn't flash the zip so I put the gps.conf file to the etc folder.
Now it works but the accuracy is about 88 feet.
How can I improve the accuracy?

AngryGPS is the "system" app that I've used in the past to tweak gps settings. It isn't the easiest thing to get installed because you have to copy it into the system/apps/ folder and change permissions. After that though it'll show up in your app drawer and you can go in and change settings. There are some threads that discuss the best config setup but again it may be targeted towards North America.
Also I don't know what kind of working options are available for your area but in some cases your gps accuracy can be incresed by changing out modems. I flashed a different modem once and I couldn't get sat. lock at all and then switched it up again and got 8-10 locks in less than 10 seconds.
