Maintenance update from Samsung available for 8.9 Wifi - Galaxy Tab 8.9 General

There's a maintenance update available from Samsung for the 8.9 Wifi. I updated my son's tablet this morning. The update package was about 20MB and the update took a while to install. It's supposed to fix data connectivity issues when coming out of airplane mode. The device seems to be much smoother since the update.
Details here: http://www.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-tab-101-us-wifi-ota-update-rolling-out
The story is about the 10.1 update, but the update is for the other wifi versions as well.

Updates you to 3.2; downloading now.
EDIT: Damn, that took a long time to update. Seems smoother in landscape mode now; I won't say it's faster in general until I've used it for a day or so to ensure that it's not just the initial speed bump you get from clearing cache and stuff. So far though there's definitely nothing negative to say about it, except of course that it's not ICS.

gutted! I thought we have official ICS!

Our Archos-Worker Courville writes there:
For the fritzbox and speedsport owners (Atheros based AP): we are working on the issue with our Wi-Fi chipset provider, we have over the air captures of the issue. Please stay tuned.
Good Evening.
Yep.

Good news! I was having freeze problems with the first ICS update, I installed that... and all gone! Now I have a really nice tablet (only that 512Mb )
Thanks for the info!
Does update increase stability and reduce freezes, resets?
I installed the original version (4.0.4) and went over all the hurdles, reformat, install, slim down app library, turn off wifi, root and install memory management programs etc, with minimal success. The tablet was still not usably stable. Some would run for awhile ok but web browsing did not work at all. Even pdf reading caused soft reboots in different apps.
I downgraded to 3.2.80 and everything works fine again.
Does this version 4.0.5 fix those problems or is it still much less stable than honeycomb?
I am growing tired of all this upgrading and downgrading.
Thanks
Yes !
Doublepost because internet connection timeout
Please delete it
Thanks
Yes !
Yes -
But i think you must test it on your own network and router and such stuff.
For me:
on 4.0.4 wifi had massive problems with my o2 surfstation,
but now with 4.0.5 all problems gone.
For me its the best firmware.
Greeting
P.S you can test it unrooted and if its good then root it.
You can take Surdu_Petrus rooted firmware therefore, or his new custom rom which is based on original archos firmware 4.0.5 and which has lots of improvements.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562889
Still unstable
The whole 4.0.5 is still unstable for me. My router is an airport express but even with others (no idea who makes them) it is problematic. A weak signal seems to cause connects and disconnects which leads to many programs force closing (Amazon Kindle, Files, Browser, ...)
Taking the microsd out makes it quite a bit better but the card had no problems in 3.2.80
So maybe it would be stable without wifi/sd/many apps, but that's kind of the reason I got a tablet in the first place

[Q] Anyone updated their KFHD (7") to M8?

!!Forgot to add it to the title, I'm talking about CM11 for KFHD7!!
Earlier this morning I found a thread saying M8 has been released for select devices. I went to CM's download page to check if it was out for KFHD 7 (tate) and found no M8, only the latest nightlies. I checked again a few times, hoping it might appear later today.
I still can't find it for tate, but when I went to Settings -> About Tablet -> CyanogenMod updates and had it check for updates, it found an update with this name: cm-11-20140708-SNAPSHOT-M8. I supposed this was it, so I downloaded it and flashed it to my kindle. Turns out I couldn't open my settings in any way, cause every time I tried to launch them they kept crashing.
I downgraded it again to M7 since I might need it tomorrow, but it's bugging me. This update can't be found in CM's download page (at least I don't see it anywhere), and if the settings aren't even opening, it's probably not too stable. I don't know much about nightlies and monthlies yet, but I thought monthlies were supposed to be more stable than nightlies... Does anybody know what's up with this update?
I've had no issues with m8 as of yet. Installed and working fine, already put my DPI back to 178 and enabled my dual panes and running fine.

Yes i have, settings crashes every time you open, but can be fixed if you clear data. I also had few lag problems and minor glitches and that was it. Hascode didn't realize the m8 had come out for android so i think there may be a problem.

Οh, so there's a fix for that. Thanks. Although I think I'll stick to a nightly, it seems like too much trouble to go and fix that when the nightly after M8 hasn't caused any stability issues to me yet.

Wifi turning off when phone idle or sleeping

I've got an annoying problem with my phone where the Wifi turns off when my phone is idle or asleep. This means my WhatsApp for Web disconnects and also my Moto Connect plays up too.
I've got the same problem at home, work and parents house so can't be an issue with all 3 networks. The keep wifi on during sleep option is set to Always before anyone mentions this to me.
Phone is running Lollipop 5.0 in the UK and is NOT rooted.
I noticed it doesn't happen when the phone is charging though.
Any ideas?
Right I've now tried changing the Sleep setting to Never but get the same problem.
Also tried connecting to the router via WPS but no luck.
Router is a Superhub 2. I've ruled out that it's the Superhub as I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini that is running fine without a single drop out.
Definitely something Moto X related.
I've also tried on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands with same results!
Try looking within the WiFi settings on the phone. Mine has this

Mine is identical to yours other than the fact that I don't have the wifi optimization option.
Right I've just cleared the cache as instructed by Motorola support.
Still have the same problem even after clearing cache.
Ok I can confirm that the issue goes away when in safe mode.
This is starting to piss me off as I don't have any way of checking if it's an app affecting my wifi disconnections!!!
I've finally found and fixed the problem myself!!
I decided to turn my bluetooth on (even though it wasn't connected to any bluetooth devices). This seems to stop the phone from causing the wifi to go to sleep!
It seems like it's a bug in the Moto X Lollipop firmware. How do I report bugs to Motorola??
It's funny how most say it's apps that cause strange behaviour but for me it's been the actual Android firmware each time I've ever had an issue!
I hope it gets fixed soon.

It's a known bug of 5.0, and already fixed for 5.1. Source, at the "Bug fixes section".
Great that you found a workarround.
Cheers!
Manuel.
Hey glad to know it's a well known bug. The work around still doesn't work. It still keeps disconnecting all the time! Driving me mad!! If the 5.1 update doesn't fix it for me, I'll need to try and get a refund and go for something else. Shame as I really like the Moto X but I can't live with an issue as stupid as this!
I'm not sure Motorola are aware of this issue at all. See their comment below from one of their support staff I'm speaking to now:
Santhosh: We have not received any reports regarding Wi-FI issue after the Android Lollipop update but please give me a moment I will provide the solution for this issue.
His solution for the issue was to get me to do a factory reset lol. I already did this when I first got updated to Lollipop!!
Going to try doing another one now to see if it actually makes any difference. Then will install a few apps at a time or something.
I am connected to WiFi just about all of time, and I have never experienced this.
Right I've done a factory reset and started completely afresh with none of my data or apps restored. WiFi has been solid; I've not had a single drop out!
I'm going to install just a couple of apps at a time and keep an eye out if the issue comes back until I find the culprit.
Hi
My phone was perfect (until now) with the WIFI since november 2014 even after I upgraded it to 5.0
But today, it suddenly starts with this problem by itself. so I restored it to factory defaults with no luck, I installed a new firmware, and still has the bug.
So, why it shows up until now by itself without any mod, app or update?
Sorry for my English.
Today I upgraded it to 5.1 and the issue persists
I had to back to stock 4.4.4. and now my wifi has been fixed so far, working good without interruption until now.
I hope this has fix the problem from sourse, and I'll wait a few days to upgrade it again.
EDIT: Has been a month since my downgrade to 4.4.4. and my WIFI still rocks.
Just want to say that I'm having the same issue since the update to 5.1. Wifi is set to be always on during sleep, but I regularly wake up my phone only to find it connected to 4G, and switching to wifi a few seconds after waking up.
I'm on a locked bootloader (unrooted of course). I did a full reset after the update...
I'm sorry to say that I've seen more little glitches since 5.1 than anything I noticed on 5.0.
EDIT: another issue I'm having is the stock mail client not syncing saying that there is no network connection. My exchange account (push) works fine however...
Just to say the issue has started for me too since the update to 5.1.
I've done 2 factory resets but no luck trying to fix this very annoying problem.
Motorola have asked me to send my phone in for repair so I'll try that and see what happens.

TCL Android 11 update has begun rolling out....

I have been doing a lot of checking ever since I purchased this unit and finally seen this article come up in my Google News feed. I can't not wait till it gets to the units in North America.
https://www.xda-developers.com/tcl-10l-android-11/
I've downloaded the update to android 11 and since then have had a major issue. My Wi-Fi keeps disconnecting and reconnecting constantly. And so far haven't been able to fix it, there's a lot of guides how to fix but none work. I've tried; forgetting the Wi-Fi, manually disconnecting and reconnecting, reset network data. All to no avail, and I'm the only in my house to experience this issue

Did you receive your update OTA or manual download and install? I just received an OTA but it was just the Jan 1st security patch
sorry about the delay, a couple of days ago (Friday I think, I'm in the UK) there was a notification on my phone saying a new software update was available. I downloaded it without a second thought because it was the phone software update. but since then whenever I connected to the Wi-Fi it would only stay connected for a few seconds. And I'm the only one in my house to have this issue. Just found update I installed (I think), it might've been the TCL UI update v3.0.8BBJ
Have to tried to reset your network settings, both cellular and wifi?
yes, tried that to no avail
Still no update even all the way almost to May for USA unlocked TCL 10L phone. I guess another company that takes their sweet time on updates.
I have received my Android 11 OS update for my 770B unlocked model, about a week ago actually. It is 3.0.8BC8 and if I'm not mistaken it was around 1.3Gb in size.
I just got update 2.0.3C.J.G pushed over the air (700B unlocked model as well) bought recently off Amazon, located in USA.
After installing, it said I had no updates, but if I manually check for updates, it offers my 3.0.8BC8 with Android 11 as well.
Strange, but very happy to be on 11.
Worth noting they took a lot of the TCL related bloat out of the Settings page on the 11 update compared to how it was on 10.

Question Wi-Fi stability issues

Even with the latest update as of May 2022, my new Tab A8 exhibits Wi-Fi stability issues not seen on the old Tab A7.
After leaving a connected tablet to sleep, Wi-Fi for some apps won't work and only a WiFi OFF + WiFi ON reset will restore connectivity.
Anyone else encountered this problem?
Same - it just won't stay on any network for long at all. It won't connect at all to my VirginMedia router saying 'couldn't get ip number'
Doesn't happen to me from what I've seen... Have Xfinity cable internet together with a Netgear router/modem.
Have you guys done all the system updates?
Yup, up to the latest from April. Tested on 2 devices and it's the same. Factory reset doesn't help.
I'm hoping that if not before, at least the Android 12 update will resolve this.
I just updated to Android 11 firmware update from last week - X200XXU1AVG1 - but the issue remains the same
On Build number RP1A.200720.012.X200XXU1AVC1, no updates I'm aware of. When this happens to me and I toggle wifi off and back on, no networks display. If I toggle airplane mode it they will appear again.
II'm in the USA, using an asus blue cave router.
What's everyone else using?
Anyone know what wifi chipset this tablet uses?
Got the update to Build number RP1A.200720.012.X200XXU1AVG1 it still occurs, and I'm also noticing bluetooth connection issues, both are cured by cycling airplane mode on and off.
Yeah... let's hope Android 12 includes fixes for this... really, the Tab A7 was a much better device with a nicer screen

I reported the issue via Samsung members app with a bunch of screenshots,
SM-X205 is now getting Android 12 but nothing available yet for SM-X200. Will probably take a couple more days
OK now SM-X200 also got the first Android 12 update and the results are... BAD! Still the same issue and I'm quite done with Samsung for now. Unbelievable that they do not test the basic functionality well enough. I expected some WiFi driver updates under the hood but it seems they are oblivious to the fact Tab A8 has issues.
Had the issue one time since the 15th it's not solved but less frequent at least
What I notice now is that the wifi will turn off randomly. If turned back on it reconnects but shortly thereafter bluetooth dies and cycling airplane mode is required
