[Q]Unstable 3G - LG Optimus 2x

Hi,
I have managed to flash CM7 on my optimus 2x.
Much better than the stock rom.
However I have an anoying issue, my 3G connection is very unstable. When I use a speedtest or just surf on the internet, my phone automatically goes back to 2G (Edge). Then after a few seconds the 3G connection is back. This also happens in places where I have full 3G reception. Also I have noticed that the download speeds are much lower than with my old phone. Could this be a problem with the RIL or the baseband. Or maybe should I try tamosek's kang build ?
I have bb 725 with RIL v20l.
Thx for your help

Hi there,
If you have stable CM7 I would rather recommend Temasek's Kang because it is better than the stable version or nightlies. Temasek put new or other things in the rom those are referred as cherry-picks. So a KANG is actually an improved CM stable ROM. I would also recommend Vadonka's kernel ETaNa-REV1 which will increase your battery life a lot and can speed up your phone with ram hacks. With the 3G problem you should try GetRIL and download your recommended RIL combination.
You do not need Temasek's Kang or Vadonka's kernel to fix your 3G problem; it’s just a suggestion
Good Luck

Thanx for your answer, I will certainly give Temasek's Kang or Vadonka's kernel a try Is the combination of Vadonkas kernel and Temaseks rom more stable than CM7 and stock kernel ?
I have already downloaded Getril and made sure that bb and rill match. But it doesn't seem to be solving my problems

I remember that the BB and matching RIL for the CM7 or even Temasek's Kang is 218 and not the one you have mentioned.
Some also use 824 BB
maybe the change of BB would make the difference

So you say I have to use nonmatching RIL and BB ? I'd rather not change the baseband since sound quality during calls is fine

u have to use the matching BB and RIL for sure....but , the combo of BB and RIL makes the communication perfect....wifi,voice calls, sound quality, 3G and so on

you may update your BB and ril
e.g. v20q BB& v10d ril is good for my phone
however, the best combination just depend on where you live
besides, I suggest you change the rom. some roms that are overclocked may also lead to connection problem

Strange problem with RIL and GB custom ROMs

I have Froyo v10d baseband and after flashing any custom rom when i try to match ril with baseband (with GetRIL) all goes wrong. Well not all but crucial thing. After reboot there`s no more screen with dialpad to enter simcard PIN so I cant get network signal. I`ve tried all 3 Django`s rom, 2 of Gueste and new Thanatos.
Sorry about english, I hope i`ve been clear enough.
Sorry guys I forgot to say that I install v10d ril whit GetRIL. After reboot there is as on attached pics.
Hi,
0823 BB is sometimes very problematic, and not suitable for everybody (cf second image).
I think that if you want to use latest custom roms, and especially v20o, you'd better flash v20m baseband, which has the same numeric name as yours but is clearly not the same. I personnally used v20l baseband without big problem, and I just upgraded to v20m one.
I just read that v20m baseband is not compatible with Cyanogenmod (only Froyo BB must be used), but flashing a BB is just a 5 minutes work.
You have all the BB you want in the Great Temasek shared folder here (in optimus p990 folder): http://www.mediafire.com/temasek
For V20m, you have for .fls files to flash, beginning with biggest file and following with decreasing size.
There is a how to text file in archive.

It's the same issue I had when trying to use GB RIL with CM7 (latest KANG).
I have the same baseband you have, and it works well with RIL 725 v10d.
With CM7 Kangs everything works fine.
So when I flash custom GB ROM can I leave RIL from him as on first attached pic 0725 v20l? Somewhere I read that different RIL cause more battery drain.

Why not simply try and test? can't say it for you, and changing Ril is fast...
I had the same issue.
I currently have v20M flashed through KDZ updater, so I have 725 v20m BB and I'm afraid to have radio problems with CM7.
I tried using V20l RIL and didn't work, but using v10d 725 RIL worked but I reverted to stock rom for now because maybe I'll have some problems.
If you tell me it's ok to use v10d 725 RIL I'll try CM7 again.
Cheers!

Its not just ok to use v10d 725 RIL, it is a must to use it. Why? CM7 isn't compatible with GB RIL. You can use GB BB but not GB RIL. It will cause unknown baseband if u use GB RIL.

I dont have any SOD on my 2X with...

I am having difficulties finding ROM twhich is not SODing every 2-3 hours. I have tried:
[CM7][KANG][FEB25] temasek's KANG BUILD P204-69 - FINAL RELEASE
[ROM][MOD] WIUI 2.2.24 Stable (GB) v4 (ICS) b0 - MULTiLanguage
update-cm-7-20120226-NIGHTLY-p990-signed
w/ and w/o Etanas kernels.
With those ROMs I have:
after-call SOD
charging SOD
also there is "SD card not found" bug with CM7 roms/kangs.
Modaco's GR6 looks more stable. SODs are rare but with Spica's kernels it starts to behave similar to CM7.
So if you have stable 2X with no or very rare (rare = max 1 in week) SODs - please tell me - which ROM with which kernel (if any) are you using? Any other mods/settings/apps?
Thank you!

Every phone is different... but if your phone is like mine... you can install any GINGER rom based on STOCK rom. Not Cyanogen.
For example, v20q (the last version available).
You must change the baseband too. For example the 725 from v20q.
If you want to change the kernel, the R11-R from spica is great, after that, all versions have problems in some phones.
Regards!
Have you checked that is not related to one of the programs you have installed? I used to have SODs until I removed a battery saver I had installed, that is half a year ago and I haven't had any since then.
Just to be sure in the safe side you might try to use your phone for a whole week w/o any apps and see if that is the case.
BTW, currently I am using CM7 nightly build 204.
Cheers.
I'm on Temasek's kangs with various Vadonka's kernels - for quite a long time. No problms found. I cannot recall problems on other roms either (I used mainly MoDaCo ones).
How about doing the clean install, i.e. do a full wipe, cache wipe, dalvik cache wipe, then install e.g. Temasek Kang #69. Just that - bare system. Then check if your phone is still unstable.
EDITED: the only app that you should install is GetRIL - to get your BB and RIL in sync. BTW, which BB are you on?
Some phones can't handle low frequecies (216MHz), you may change the lowest freq. with setCPU or an other tool like this. Maybe it helps.

BB is one more unsolved mistery - i cant understand - are all 725 the same or is there diference between them? i also tried that 1120 that was posted here on forums - that BB was buggy as hell for me so i went back to 725.

it might be software, but i am not using any battery saving apps. tho im installing the same software after every clean install - so this might be the case.

Thanks for the tips guys! First ill check Temasek Kang #69 without soft and will see what happens.
I use an older Temasek with IronKernel00. About 2 weeks old install? Never flashed another Baseband, i think i am on the stock(?) 725.
Not a single SOD. But again, never had a SOD on the stock ROM from LG, even in the Froyo times. Well, had a SOC when the phone were OC'ed to 1.55
Been using Temasek's kang for a while and it is quite stable. I'm on stock kernel as well.
Since you also mentioned that your device sometimes fails to detect your SDcard, I believe it could be corrupted. Have you tried formatting it? (make a backup first).
Sent from a galaxy far, far away...
I have been using the ICS Nova HD from the very start it went aviable for download and no SoD yet.
Hi. I had the same problems as you do when I was using Juice Defender with its profiles.
A month ago I deleted it and started using setcpu and I didn't had any SOD anymore.
Using tamasek's kang 69+ Vadonka's kernel
any more lucky cm7 users?
There aren't "lucky" users, sods are caused mainly by:
-radio errors: the phone shuts-off because baseband encounters a critical error, and kernel goes in panic. This is common in cm7 roms, because ril is closed-source (so radio commands are obtained via reverse-engeenering), so we don't know the exact commands and radio management. A normal phone usage should not encounter this kind of SoD. Juicedefender or Toggle2G tweak continuously radio settings (i.e. internet activation or 2G/3G switching), so in cm7 these app are not recommended.
-kernel panic: phone shuts-off because of a generic kernel panic. The main cause of kernel panic is a bad/aggresive-tweaked custom kernel, or UV/OC. An unknown cause of kernel panic happens sometimes during phone charging.
I DON'T RECOMMEND UNDERVOLTING, a lot of phone could not manage that. I had a lot of SoDs because of that.
If I wrote something wrong please correct me.
Inviato dal mio Smartpad810c usando Tapatalk
I haven't had any SOD yet. Use my 2X since last April.
Been on Stock, Modaco Fr19, Gueste v2.2, Gueste v3.1, Gueste v3.2 and am on Temaseks last KANG.
Tried different Kernels as well.
CM7 is highly recommended to be used with BB and RIL 218. Maybe this is the source of your problems.
If your Phone gets this SODs that often, I would revert to stock and return it.
Chances are high, that you will get a newer and bug free specimen.
if you use cm7 kang #69 and with etana kernel, i suggest you change the minimum value to 324 MHZ since it doesn't give me SOD at all. with my pimp my CPU configuration like this:
default: 324-1100MHZ.
idle / screen off: max & min 324 MHZ.
i don't Undervolt since it will give problem with my device. i guess i have the crap one can't undervolt

nah, i use the BB and RIL 0725 SEA
thanks for your advices. will check frequencies at start - then ill will start to mess with BBs and RILs.
I have found that this might be bb related issue soding my phone all the time. With 1120 and 1120 ril my phone is stable. No sods in week. I flashed back to 725 and i had 2 sods in one day. Also i had difficulties to find correct ril as with a lot of 725 rils i did had other problems. For know im using system in my sig and i am quiet happy.

[Q] About Baseband and RIL

Hi
i have the 0725 baseband on my phone. As i understand, to archieve the best batterylife is to match the RIL with the baseband. I just checked my battery consumption and the signal is almost never green. To compare with phones from within the household, a wildfire S, Arc S and Ray all have a green bar.
So, i tried to change the RIL to the recommended 0725 (V10D Europe). My 2X grants permission, reboots, but the RIL is still the CM7 stock 0218.
What should i do? What am i doing wrong? Is it not possible to change the RIL?
Btw, Temasek Kang with vadonka kernel. I live in Denmark (Europe )
I think you are experiencing the /system r/w bug that's being discussed in the thread of the etana kernel, check it out.
Cheers
So thats it! Thank !
Is there any other way to change the RIL?
You can put another kernel for cm7 in there (like a older one) use getril then reflash the latest kernel or wait for a fix.
Cheers
Makes sense.
Thanks for the help

Hi,
I've got massive battery drain when mobile data is enabled with RIL (0218 - 10b) that comes with 7.2

Any recomended BB/RIL combination with this near (voodoo sound patch in kernel please) perfect ROM?

thanx for nice intentions, but I've read that post months ago, and obviously didn't find the solution for this cm 7.2 ROM that refuses to work with RIL from 20q... because on stock 20q with BB and RIL from that same stock ROM no massive drains.
EDIT: OK I'll try froyo baseband and ril and hope for even better stability/performance than stock GB bb/ril combination..

"Months ago"? I doubt that as I created the thread 5 weeks ago
But I see you already found the answer, yes you need a Froyo RIL for the v20 GB Basebands for CM ROMs.

327 baseband- best ril?

I have o2x with 327 baseband with cm7 kang rom.
I have installed getril which shows ril baseband do not match.
I have problems with network at times too.
May i know which ril would be best for 327 baseband?
I tried changing rils but it didnt workout.
The baseband thread doesnot mention suitable ril for 327 bb
Thanx

dont worry about the GetRIL suggestion....you can see that some of the guys are using a BB+RIL combination which does not match as per the app....but it all depends on the network, voice clarity, mobile data and so on....
for example I was using, BB V20C Russian BB and 218 RIL for Hybrid ROM ( a great one for sure)from Stefan....so I think it does not matter if your needs are met....other seniors can correct me if I am wrong
Oh okay i also thought that the getril suggestions r nt that much imp.Thanx for confirming
Now i have changed my bb to 725 and using 725ril.Lets see how it goes. Also changed rom from cm7 kang to gueste 3.7!
Im not much satisfied with battery drain in gueste or any other roms...kang rom seems the best in terms of battery backup.
