On every new ROM install, I usually just restock according to Overcome's guide which uses Odin.
I've had no problems with Odin, but I am curious about Heimdall (it sounds safer and looks more up to date). I want to try flashing with this, but there seems to be very few ROM's that have instructions for this.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Also when I go to try a new ROM, after I restock, I usually flash Hyperdroid's kernel via Odin. I do this just for the recovery, but I don't know if I need to do this or not (the ROM's I try usually have their own kernel to flash). The only thing I'm concerned about is if Gingerbread's Recovery is locked down or restricted in some way
My i9000 is on i9000xxjvb stock rom. I flashed modified kernal to make it rooted and cwm enabled. I am unable to move appear from phone memory to internal SD. An error message appears " failed to move application, not enough memory."
To get rid of this, i tried Hamsterbread 1.1 custom rom, but problem not solved. I used every method from hard reset to wipe cache, data and more. But nothing happened.
Now I want to downgrade to froyo. I don't know how to do this? Please, tell the procedure in detail and step by step. I belong to India. There is no 2.2.1 version available for India. Can I go for other regions versions? or I should stick with i9000ddjp6 which is latest verison for India. Thanks
i havnt tried downgrading. but i think you could try flashin back using odin with bootlooder froyo.
i live in india but use european firmware an see no problem
^^ Im not sure about this. I think you can just flash a Froyo ROM via CWM. I am not sure about this. It always makes sense to search around before you do either. Good Luck!
If you flash speedmod (or whatever froyo kernel you choose) through odin, then simply install whatever rom through cwm via zip file. The downgraded froyo rom doesn't need bootloaders, the gingerbread ones are backwards compatible. Tried it myself and it worked without a hitch.
Just flash any stock firmware through ODIN with pit and repartitioned tick and you are good to go.
Makes sense to open eyes and read the post that tells you how .Or even use the search button .
just download a stock froyo firmware and flash with odin. there are tutorials all over the place
just flash froyo kernel using odin and then enter clockwordmod install zip
Hi all,
Trying to update a friends SGS, and having a bit of a problem. I have sucessfulyl flashed GB 2.3.3 from ROMKitchen to it, however trying to flash any other kernel to it fails... sorta.
After flashing the ROM the recovery is always Samsung default (3e). I have used Odin to try and flash different kernels (Voodoo GB experimental - both the initial release, and the latest version, and several others)
The odd part is this seems to work, until the phone is rebooted - for instance today after flashing Voodoos latest, I reboot into the OS and checked Settings > About Phone, the kernel had updated to "curio (at) carton #Voodoo" but after rebooting this is undone..
Unfortunately the friend I am doing all this for was on tight schedule and had to leave, so there wasn't much time for experimentation, but has anybody seen this happening, and know what to do?
Kernel Flash
Did you make sure that in Odin you put the .tar file into the field PDA and not Phone? I flashed once curios kernel through the Phone-field and the modem did not flash correctly.
Besides that I never had any problems flashing a kernel. You can try the app SGS Kernel flasher from the market if you happen to have problems again.
Yeah, It's definitely in PDA. The odd thing about this all is I did the very same process on my phone, and it worked. On his no matter what I do his recovery will always end up at stock - even the kernel in the romkitchen package doesn't seem to be taking effect.
Then update recovery as always via Clockwork post .
well, i have had some issues flashing my phone to 2.3, and it is currently on continuum v5.5 working fine for a few versions. so i don't want to rush into anything and mess it up again, but i want to try another rom. im a little confused to what all i need to do to get the new phoenix rom on coming from a talon kernel.
thanks!
Just use ODIN ONE CLICK STOCK (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989 and then place the rom of ur choice and flash it in CWM!! tell me if u need anything else
Odin back to stock and follow instructions in the OP for the Pheonix thread.
You need to verify that your current installed kernel is compatible with your new rom of choice.
If not:
1. Find one that is compatible, install it via odin without rebooting - then boot to recovery and install the zip file in cwm.
OR
2. Odin one click to stock and go from scratch.
If going from GB to GB rom then the important thing is the kernel compatibility or you will likely go into bootloop. Other than that wipe, reset and install.
I am currently running a stock XXJVQ firmware with Galaxian 2.1 kernel installed. I have a few backups to it made in CWM.
My question is - if I try to flash Darky's ROM, will I lose CWM and all the backups I made to my previous ROM?
Also - it says that I should have lagfix turned on before trying to flash Darky's ROM. I used the CF tool to convert all my rfs memory to ext4. I suppose that's the same as a lagfix, meaning that I already have my lagfix turned on, right?
your nandroid backups will remain intact, and just use cf tool to convert back to lagfix disabled(all on rfs) and you should be set to go....remember to follow darkys instructions to the word and then you should have no problems....happy flashing
Hi there,
I have the stock JVQ flashed via odin from samfirmware, I would really like to use this rom. However, I was following the steps documented on this link which was successful (I reverted back to the rom on this page just to make things simpler, and to ensure that there wern't going to be any glitches):
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/guide-installing-stock-rom-gt-i9000-only.486/
and then started to follow this:
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/i...rkys-rom-on-2-2-2-2-1-i9000-i9000m-only.1041/
However got to part 2, and the kernel flash didn't work (didn't get the dark core recovery part written on the recovery screen). So I clicked on the 'Alternate Method to Get Working Kernel' and the links dead!
Is there another method I can follow step by step, I currently have no root on the phone, but I can easily root using CF root if that helps, however previously I found no lagfix option! I'm completely a noob at this so any help would be appreciated...I want to try the rom that everybody's talking about
Many Thanks
If you flash 10.2 Resurrection Edition you don't have to worry about lagfix on or off!
It will give you a CLEAN, FAST phone.
From there you can install, tweak, modify to your hearts content!
As the above poster said, just flash Darky 10.2 RE instead. You can flash it with Odin regardless of the ROM you have before. Just follow the guide on this page:
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/odin-darkyrom-10-2-resurrection-gt-i9000.4272/
does this rom work on m110s (korean I9000).. is there anyone who tested it?
It's displayed this for 30 minutes now. I don't think it is installing the ROM:
I am coming from Gingerbread. What should I do now?
EDIT: Since I can't get back into recovery, I'm guessing I need to OneTouch this? I could really, really, use some help right now.
I would suggest holding Vol+/Vol-/Power until you reboot into recovery, doing the "wipe data/user reset" option, then re-flashing the rom.
That usually fixes it for me when I get a bad first flash to a new rom.
That doesn't work.
If you don't have access to CWM recovery, you could also try flashing another kernel that comes in a .tar format for ICS roms (e.g. Semaphore ICS) via Heimdall.
If that still doesn't work, I would suggest flashing back to a stock ROM and trying again.
I wouldn't know how to do any of that.
I would then strongly suggest that you flash back to a stock Rom.
The easiest way to do this is to go in the Development section and look for the "Stock Roms and one-clicks collection" sticky.
Inside of there, find a one-click ROM for Gingerbread and download it.
A few things to consider:
1. If you were previously on Gingerbread, get a Gingerbread-based one-click WITHOUT bootloaders.
2. If you were not previously on Gingerbread, get either an Eclair- or Froyo-based one-click WITHOUT bootloaders -or- a Gingerbread-based one-click WITH bootloaders.
Once you have downloaded the file, just run it - it should be pretty self-explanatory. You'll need to have your phone in download mode (power off, hold V+/V- and insert USB cable) to flash back to stock.
