Will definately need testing. I got the process down 100% though, just the script will require some testing so please stay posted.

GREAT!
we can get some ROMs going with an sbf with root as a backup and Nandroid backup to go all the way back to stock in case you need to return the phone.
also - we can edit the frameworks to get rid of the BS massive carrier title in the notification bar.
will i still be able to install this theme http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1041450 or at least a black notification bar? thanks

Most likely the people making those would have to get the updated framework files and redo the themes to make it work with new firmware. If you really need the theme then i'd recommend waiting for a bit to give people time to make some stuff for the update before you install it. Having root is a good start to getting there though
refresh refresh refresh.......................
my apologies, im just a lil we bit to excited to get this script!

I think we will need to deodex first and repackage the theme first. Correct me if I'm wrong. Root is always the first step but the important thing here as stated above is that bell users can use cwm to backup bell then flash to this telstra verson and root to install cwm and recover to bell if necessary. I'm sure someone will port a theme with a dark bar soon This rom also has minor improvements such as 2.2.2 and hspa fix (or so the small tester army is saying).
Lol, I can't seem to type fast enough to get a response out...yesssss, refresh!

raybond25 i sent you a PM don't know if you got it but basiclly do i have to wait for a new set of deodexed files and then also have to wait for the theme to be compatible with this SBF? thanks
EDIT: also i don't mind waiting for a few weeks for some compatible themes etc. i want my fast upload speeds etc.

Yes, that is correct. I wasn't really thinking of deodex. I believe the process is essentially the same for every update, so I don't expect it will be long before this is done. If you really like your current theme setup you might as well wait a week or two before installing the new sbf.

already flashing it, lol. i did like the gingerbread theme but i can live with a white notification bar a settings menu for a couple weeks, most everything else i can get to look the same. but it shouldn't take very long to at least get a black notification bar updated to work with this SBF (few days to a week im guessing)
okay i have run into a problem, when i try and sign in to my motoblur account i get the error (an error has occurred, please try again) also i have no data connection (may just have to enter bell APN settings later) but using wifi. can someone help me with this and is there a way to bypass the setup? thanks
EDIT: managed to bypass motoblur setup using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1027994 and i do have to enter bells APN settings but i think the problem was my wifi at the motoblur setup screen, its doing some crazy connect>disconnect>connect>disconnect thing so that is probably why i couldn't set up my motoblur account
EDIT 2: everything is working except the wifi issue but i never use the wifi, waiting for root script so i can restore using titanium backup!

I never set up my motoblur (on bell version haven't flashed this one yet), I think I just didn't put in my sim card and didn't connect to wifi and it let me bypass it. Bell apn should be easily found.

i just installed this rom and running great , set up the rogers APN and all my preferred settings, now just waiting for this root
wont be long
Just working out the final kinks, and testing on a fresh flash to be 100% everything is explained and working perfectly.
I'm going to flash this now, hoping it fixes some issues I was having. Once it gets deodexed I will update my theme ASAP, because I really cant stand the 2.2 look
Great tutorial, thanks!
Can you confirm that we can install cwm and return to the stock bell? ...Just in case we miss the bellbloat

Hello all! Here it is Broken Out Rom for the LG Revolution!!! It has been fully cleaned out to decrease size and to increase speed. It will continue to be a work in progress! I hope you all enjoy!!!
What is this?
This is a very lightweight rom built both for speed and stability. This rom is based off of the latest LG update to Gingerbread 2.3.6. It is fully deodexed, and debloated. Almost all of LG has been replaced and as time goes by, I hope to remove the rest. Swype has also been changed to the newest Beta. A few items have been replaced with AOSP versions to increase speed and decrease size. Also included is the appwidgetpicker to clean that up.

missing Sim card
Installed fine, but when I get to set up at the language selection it says it needs a Sim card to activate. I have a Sim card in there. Just in case, I removed it, replaced it and rebooted. Still asking for Sim card...any thoughts?
Damn the bad luck!
Got impatient, flashed this at work (step by step, not new to this). Got stuck at the LANG screen, combo'd past it, no SIM detected.
Fwiw, the build looks AWESOME from playing around in it. So quick at stock! Just cant use it as is. : /

I got a fix... try re flashing following all instructions, but DO NOT code through the setup lang. screen. Instead select english, allow the sim card to "activate" until it says it is already activated and you see continue with setup process. and then you can just home button, or back button to you homescreen and ta dah!.
I got it first try. lol super fast and sleek ROM mt... Looking forward to updated releases!

The problem I was having (and I assume the same for pborner) was that the activation failed because of the "lack" of sim.
I fully intend to reflash this (again) when I wake up in the afternoon. Glad it worked for you. Gives me hope for the second chance!

Totally missed that line on the original post. My bad.
WORKS FLAWLESSLYUnfortunately, half the people on here DO NOT follow instructions, and they FAIL and CRY about how it doesn't work. MT puts in this hard work, and you SLUGS can't even follow directions. HE SAID VZ8 IS NECESSARY....if he says that WHY THE **** would you flash from GB?
AND THEN WASTE FORUM SPACE. UNBELIEVABLE, this installed first shot with ZERO problems without tricks and without cm9 GARBAGE. 4 G works perfect, NO SIM CARD ISSUES.
LIKE THE MAN SAID, BEFORE FLASHING YOU BETTER HAVE ZV8, IF YOU DON'T, SCREW
Sorry if I am being stupid on this, but...
I would like to jump into this new rom, but with all the different threads now, I must admit I am really confused. Every night now I receive the Software Update failed screen. I am on ZV7 running GingerVOlt 1.3 now.
Anyone kind enough to point me to the right thread to get to ZV8 and then to this rom after. I am lost reading the different threads now. I figured this would be the best thread to get the help. I have flashed many roms and such on this, nook colors, and my 3 Droid Eris phones, so I know how to do the stuff. I am just not seeing which one to go with first.
Also... I am not sure right now if my ADB is running at home or not. Formatted out my laptop a bit back and not sure if I have run it since or not. So anything that is flashable on the phone would be best for me at work.
Does blue tooth work with this ROM?

Hey guys. I've had a Raider on Rogers for quite some time, and the Dark Raider rom with KozmikKernel RC1 has been working well for me for what I need. However, the Wi-Fi hotspot hasn't been working for me no matter how many different third-party tethering programs I installed. I'm on the AT&T build.prop. Is there any way I can fix this problem on my current setup, or should I just switch over to stock Rogers ICS and go back to a custom ROM later?
I've also attached a screenshot of what happens on the default hotspot app (My phone crashed while trying to take the screenshot.... weird )
Try the beta 12 from kozmick , or faux 123 (007 kernel) see if that works for ya.

I just installed beta 13 and it didn't work. Also, my phone's performance is now choppier, probably because of the badass governor.
i hope i helped.
i have had the same issue before, and after a lot of reading and searching, i came to figure out what i was doing wrong.
you should keep reading and searching too, you will learn a lot.
but i will tell you what i know and i hope it helps.. it all has to do with the way you flash roms and kernells to your device. if you have already achieved S-off, then your problem may be a lil more difficult,, but if you are just fastboot unlock and rooted.. what you need to do is stract the boot.img of the file that has the kernell inside the rom zip. and flash that separately via fastboot.
place the boot on ur file that ur using to flash stuff, and then use the proper command,
"fastboot flash boot boot.img" in command pront,
if u are confuse, take a look into this guide. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416836

Tried that with several ROMs and several kernels - still get the same error. Thought I had it fixed with that world-famous Illuminati ROM, but alas it was not to be.
It has to be an APN problem, in that it's looking for AT&T info and not finding it. That's all I can think of it being...

Yea att,

On a stock ROM, that's exactly what I see. It works on stock but any modded ROM gives me an error. It works on AT&T, but not on any other carrier. That's what I'm trying to figure out.

As I recall, the latest KEXEC roms do not work on Safestrap 2.10, it requires Safestrap 3.x which hasn't been released yet. For now, I'd say grab an older version, or settle with a current GB rom for now and watch development.

Wiping before or after does not make any difference (though I always do it after flashing the ROM.) Wipe data/factory reset also wipes the cache partition, and, of course, Dalvik cache, so those two wipes are redundant. Any ROM that doesn't start after a wipe data/factory reset has a problem with the ROM, not with how many times that you wipe data.
I would frankly wait on CM9 or CM10 builds until Hashcode gets the new Safestrap working on the D3. There are plenty of ROMs that will work - Maverick, Steel Droid (the GB version is more feature-complete), Liberty, Bionic. You can find them here, but it might be easier at droidforums.net: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-3-roms/

I would try MavRom 4.0 (4.5 has a battery drain problem with the overclock script), this is what I use + GSM unlock, in safestrap do a factory reset/data wipe before and after flash (I only do it once, but it's always recommended to wipe up to three times).

I use the XT883 radio with MavROM 4.0 AND Kexec CM10, works grand except in JB, the signal indicator is broken, I use a Network Monitor widget for a good signal meter.
If you install Safestrap, enable safe-boot and reboot, it will boot a black screen, since it has no rom to boot into. After enabling safe-boot, flash a rom, Gapps, wipe data/factory reset, then reboot. Although you can also just grab SafeStrap 3.05 now, which is a lot easier to swap between roms for testing.

Try that. Also make sure you uncheck both boxes under Mobile Networks for Verizon stuff.

Thanks, but I already fixed it. Decided to do some meddling with the current build.prop from the zip and whatnot on my own.

Good to hear!

Although you can also just grab SafeStrap 3.05 now, which is a lot easier to swap between roms for testing.

bro last i checked with 2.10 and i did just as you said (without enabling it would be no sense to install rom & i know that)..... but i still got the Black screen @ the time ......thou i have to test the same with the new 3.05 but i hardly think that would make a difference
Please help
Ok, I need HELP. Please be kind as I am not nearly as inteligent as the rest of you and this is my first post, but I can follow directions well (so my wife says).
I purchased a Droid 3 with black screen. Phone powers on and I can hear it going through the boot process. Lights on the bottom 4 buttons light up, computer recognizes phone when plugged in. I think someone has tried unsuccesfully to flash phone or mod it in some way causing the black screen. I have downloaded the files to restore phone to stock state. NOW my dilema..... I can't see the screen to get the phone into ap fastboot so I can do the restore. I have rooted several phones and even unbricked many phones (all with the help of those much smarter than me and their directions). So if someone could give me the very detailed steps to get phone into ap fastboot without the ability to see the screen I think I can fix it (I hope!)
Thanks in advance.

Could be the flex cable..
Okay, so I know there are problems like the camera not working on ICS/JB. But I can't really find a comprehensive list of all the problems it has?
Do important things like data work? Bluetooth? Wifi? Etc
Also would ICS be a better thing to install if things like BT/Data work on ICS and not JB yet? Or 4.1 instead of 4.2?

Data and wifi works for me. I don't use bluetooth, so I can't verify that for you. I have a different unlock then everyone else here. So it might not be the same for you. But from what I've been reading it should work.

Where do I check that?
How do i get data on the xt862? I cant get it working.
Sent from my DROID3 using xda app-developers app
Well I think you need to enter APN and activate it. Works for me. Unless I do not have signal on my D3.
I just installed CM 10.1 on my mother's Verizon D3, and WiFi/3G seem to work just fine. The performance is much better than stock (where she came from).

It just worked. I did nothing special.
As long as I safestrap and install the rom into another slot I can always just boot the stock rom right? Safestrap itself doesn't have any issues does it? Also does rooting with motofail wipe the phone?

Yes, though I believe that I read from Hash's latest announcement that the latest build must go into slot 1. I may have read that wrong...

Occasionally it will not start Safestrap when you press menu on boot when prompted. It seems to only happen to me when I reboot using a reboot command from a menu or app, rather than by shutting down the phone and restarting the "normal" way. There is a fix for this that always works for me: pull the battery. Open the keyboard and hold the "X" key while you power on. This will boot to a menu. Use VolDn to highlight "Start BP Tools" (should be the last option) and press VolUp to choose that. That always starts Safestrap for me.

Awesome, thanks. I'm gonna root the phone, remove bloat, and maybe put a custom launcher and lockscreen on it and hopefully that will make the phone a lot more smooth. I've seen some issues with minimoto so unless that gets fixed I won't be installing that. Well I guess I can put that on the second rom slot, right? Or was that multiple rom slot thing only with Hash's ICS/JB releases?
I just installed CM 10.1
do the cm 10.1 roms have google play store? I just installed the latest release from hash code, but can't seem to find the store. Is there a way to install apps?

most of the current roms can be install with safestrap
steel droid 4.8/5.6, cm9, aokp, XT861 5.8.25 2.3.6, XT862 2.3.6 DST, minimo......
there are four slots + stock
only cm10.1 needs to be on slot 1, if you don't have cm10.1, another rom can be there

So wait, if I put 10.1 in slot 1 is that different still from stock? So I can switch between the two?
Also I need some clarification, is the XT862 what the US Verizon DROID 3 is called?

Yes. There is stock and you can create up to four ROM slots on internal storage (depending on how much storage you have available there and how big you make each data partition.) There is some good info on hashcode's blog: http://blog.hash-of-codes.com/how-to-safestrap/
It's pretty easy and fast to switch between ROM slots and/or back to stock.
