Agreed! I'm sure CM7 would have had been fully functional by now if Hash or another Dev had decided to finish it. Here's another scary thought, I read that Google is supposed to be releasing Jelly Bean (Android 5.0) in the second quarter of this year. If this is true, there would be a new OS before even a hand full of devices are even running ICS.
Yep, it would be finished, and we all would be begging for him to start to work on a ICS build.
CM7 is nice, but CM9 is nicer
Also, I'm starting to think Hash is Legion, for he is many (jk)

If that were to really happen I have a feeling there would be a lot of unhappy Galaxy Nexus owners...
^^I agree. There was so much hype surrounding the 4.0 OS that it seems both doubtful and (if true) disappointing that Google would be too shortsighted/trigger-happy, to actually let the OS mature a bit first, before pumping out another release. I've owned Android devices for better or worse, since the OG Droid, and I have to say that the evolution of the platform has been staggering...but I'm at a loss as to how the OS could really get SIGNIFICANTLY better than this. It's just my opinion, but I think 4.x is close to perfect...in the past, I could see clearly, how Eclair, Froyo, or GB could be improved, but ICS really has it all. I just think it would be terribly irresponsible of both Google and manufacturers, to support the release of a new OS this soon...

From what I read, the biggest new features are supposed to be Android's own version of NFC and compatibility with netbooks, laptops, desktops..... I agree it is too early for another release, but perhaps the extra features that are supposed to be included are too significant to just be an update to say 4.05.

The Nexus will be out before the month's end, and the source code will drop in the following 2-4 weeks. If someone built it from SDK, they'd have to start it all over again after the source drops.
ya but that means source wont drop till xmas and then by the time someone has a working build moto will be releasing there official build so it doesnt really do anything for us

It might be a fun exercise, and fun to play around with, but sdk ports are buggy and wont have the framework that really makes up ICS. It would basically GB + some ICS features/apps, since all we have access to is some apps and what they ask for

I hope no one is wasting time working on a port from a Software Development Kit (SDK) emulator "ROM" that is incomplete and lacking. SDK's are for app developers to test, not for ROMs to be be made.
Once the source hits....you'll have a better chance of getting ICS, AND a much better and complete ROM.
I really hope no one is working on an SDK port "ROM" for the D3.

Just to be clear, I'm not working on an ICS port from the SDK. Sorry :/
While I applaud jellydroid13's enthusiasm, there is still alot of work to be done getting the D3 to be more AOSP friendly. This includes working on getting the audio drivers working correctly, BT updated, overlays which don't have PBUNDERUN events every 30 seconds, camera routines to iron out, etc.
Fixing these issues in Gingerbread where our kernel matches up with the source, gives us a better chance at then migrating working source to a true ICS port later.
There is also a fairly sizable kernel hurdle to jump as well.
Just my 2-cents.

Starting with IceCreamSandwich, the Android Open-Source Project can't be used from pure source code only, and requires additional hardware-related proprietary libraries to run, specifically for hardware graphics acceleration.
Official binaries for Nexus S, Nexus S 4G, Galaxy Nexus, and PandaBoard can be downloaded from Google's Nexus driver page, which add access to additional hardware capabilities with non-Open-Source code.
There are no official binaries for Nexus One, ADP2 or ADP1.

Similar in the sense that many months out with non-official 2.3 we still have buggy and feature incomplete gingerbread derivatives?
The only real upside, given that the phone stopped being supported by Samsung and T-Mobile ages ago, is that the uphill struggle with ICS will probably be no worse than it was with GB.
dont forget our non FFC phones, are gonna make face unlock obsolete... and ones with FFC probably too low resolution and speed...
But doesn't the fact that cyanogenmod officially supports the vibrant mean that when cm9 hits, that all non-nexus devices aren't too far behind? Isn't that the point of "officially" supporting a device?

moto also released the D3's source to sourceforge today. wouldn't that include the audio bits?
I am of course looking at the source for ICS as we speak..
Possibly even testing how the source compiles.
But, I don't want to send the wrong message. I don't think ICS will be usable in any real way for the D3 till I either get source built up for the omap audio stuff (or a new kernel)
I'm just toying around with it, and getting use to the new layers.

Yes, alpha, buggy, useless roms.
Look, it will take us a while to get it running but we will have it. Just relax.
I'd like to repeat: I'm not ignoring ICS
I'm actively working on it in my spare time between: D3 CM7 updates, Safestrap updates, and helping with the CM7 for Bionic.
Add to that: I'm also watching CM9 develop and doing testing there as well (I have 3 repo's going at the moment).
AndroidSims has is correct tho: It will be a toy to play with for the moment, even if I get it booting to the OS. No audio, no phone.
IMHO, CM9 w/ our current kernel will get us a lot further due to the compatibility issues. But, obviously CM9 will take a while.
CyanogenMod just released CM10 STABLE for a lot of devices...Just in case anyone's interested, maybe there's a phone in this list that the files, with a few tweaks, could work on our Inc S...

So yeah the reason i posted is for someone to try and use maybe HTC One's rom and see if it could be reworked for Inc S.
We already have CM10 build with us. But we have one huge roadblock, we don't have asop kernel to run this ROM.
