[Q] info about CWM,4ext and 4ext touch - HTC Incredible S

OK, I've searched a lot but I cannot clear my mind about this different recovery tools....
Now I have cwm 4.0 but with it I cannot flash miui, cm7/9; so I was thinking about installing 4ext...
Now beging doubts...
1. 4ext touch seems to be 4ext with touch support but many roms doesn't support it, they require 4ext is this correct or 4ext has a backward compatibility?
2. roms that requires cwm can be installed with 4ext/4ext touch?
3. updating cwm to 5 will let me install all roms?
4. for installing 4ext is better to install it by market, installing zip by cwm or putting PG32IMG.zip in sd root and than let it install by fastboot?
5. do I need to partion my sd with a ext4 partition in order to flash miui and cm7/9?
I appreciate every answer, I'm getting crazy about googling and searching in the forum...

Fortunately I waited for taco root, so I used revolutionary to s-off my IncS!
Sorry I forgot to mention that...
edit: thanks for the info about cm7, since cm9 requires 4ext recovery ( not touch ), I thought that cm7 was the same!

The CM9 here is a kang version and not an official one from the CM team. The user that kanged the source code made his partitions ext4, that's why you need 4EXT recovery.

Depends on what you want to do with your phone, if you are fine with running stock rom, don't change it as there is no need for it.
CWM is useful when you use custom roms (both for the flash process/wipes and backups/restore), stock recovery is useful for nothing at all in that case.
So, IOW, if you don't intend on using custom roms, stick with stock recovery, if you intend on using custom roms, get CWM.
Clockwork mod recovery lets you do things like wipe factory data reset, wipe cache, battery status etc.... and can also install roms from zip files. Stock recovery can't do that. Hope I helped Also clockwork mod only works if you are rooted first I belive.
Does this mean i need to use custom rom to get cmw? Can i use cmw in stock? I dont want to flash any custom rom yet but i need cmw to flash theme? Lol

You can flash CWM and use stock but i have no idea why you would, you can't use backup or restore and you'll have no use for it what so ever.
You never need to flash a theme, you install it via market or downloaded .apk, if it's a custom theme you need a theme manager and you'll download and install themes via that manager.
You do NOT need CWM for anything you are trying to do.

You can use cwm on stock.
However, the great function isn't working on stock.
It means, even if you use cwm on stock, it has no difference with original (stock) recovery.

If you are going to use CWM anyway, might as well use custom rom...

Hi! I have a question. I have the last cmw touch but i cannot do a nandroid backup of the stock rom (2.3.4) because it can't mount system and cache. It's really not possible to make a backup of the stock rom? I'm asking this because i did some modifications like removing preinstalled apps and things like this and a new flash of the rom is not the same for me...

Yes with Revolutionary S-OFF you will be able to flash custom ROMs while in recovery without needing to manually flash the boot.img in FASTBOOT mode.
There are several reasons why some ROMs may not boot. If you allowed Revolutionary to install Revolutionary CWM recovery, then that is an older version. You may want to install 4EXT touch recovery instead. In other cases, the ROMs have specific wipe instructions that you must follow before you flash the ROM. If you do not follow them, it could cause issues with the ROM.
If you have problems with specific ROMs, then I would search the ROM's thread to see if others have run into the issue or if more detailed process may have been posted based on users' experiences.
Okay thanks, I don't use clockwork mod I had flashed 4EXTRecovery flashed with recovery.img. I will give a look into into it and play with some roms then get back to you. Thanks

Bootloop

Hello guys, i need your help.
I tried to install this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2064242.
I was using cm10 from 28.12.12 before.
I only wiped dalvik cache before installing the miui rom.
as i tried to boot my lg, it got stock in the bootanmiation.
as i tried to restore my cm10 backup, it got stuck in bootanimation aswell.
but as i used an cm9 backup it could boot perfectly
any suggestion or help?
thanks
Well, as i can see, this MIUI rom uses ics bootloader. Witch bootloader are you useing? New or old? If old then i think that you can't install the MIUI rom that requiers new bootloader and partition.
(Correct me if i'm wrong)

I guess he is using the new bootloaders, cause he had installed CM10.1 2812..
There is a recovery thread.. where u flash a CM from 5. november.. via NVFlash but when u can get in the CWM recovery... just try to install Djangomanouche 1.1

google is telling me django is another rom, how can i install cm10/backup with it on my phone? and do u may have a link to the thread?
Official cm10 is for old bootloader and partition. I think that you are on old bootloader and partition, so you can't flash Django Manouche or the MIUI rom.
If you want to flash these roms you have to change bootloader and partition. You can do that by useing the "All In One toolkit" located at development section. (i'm planning to use this toolkit aswell when i hawe installed windows on my computer)

Here's a link to a MIUI rom for old bootloader. Check it out.

Didn't he sayd that he was useing cm10 before, witch, correct me if i'm wrong, is for old bootloader (atleast the official CyanogenMod built)? Or am i misleading..?

he said "I was using cm10 from 28.12.12 before."
and the 26.12.12 release was ICS Bootloader (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2058231)
But he could also have installed the old 14.12.12 release on that day..
But there is also a new recovery in the thread: recovery-20121223.zip

[Q] Installing JellyMod

I apologies If I'm posting in the wrong section, I literally just signed up. I've rooted my device and have got the jellymod file downloaded, however I've looked at some tutorials (couldn't find one specifically for I9070) and they say to use ROM manager with clockwork mod however it seems my model isn't supported so I'm quite stuck, help please!

Do NOT use rom manager...can result in a brick. After you've rooted, install a custom kernel with custom recovery and then just flash the jellymod using custom recovery after placing it in the ext sd card..
Follow this guide

Hope that helps..

Go with CoCore..the same which is in the guide.. i believe that is 5.0 version.. you can update it later to 5.6 or 6.0 if you want to..
Edit- the link is to the main cocore thread.. so you can go ahead and install the latest i.e 6.0 with either twrp or cwm recovery..

5.0.2.0 is the latest OFFICIAL version of ClockworkMod. v6 was ported by dla5244 and therefore, unofficial. the V6 made by dla5244 works although I would suggest using 4EXT Recovery instead. It is an improved version of ClockworkMod with a few extras here and there. The Incredible S is also officially supported and 4EXT is still updated from time to time.
happened to my incredible s shortly before it died.
sounds like your internal memory/mainboard is failing.
