Use motofail

I have root. Isn't motofail for rooting? I didn't loose root. All my other root apps work and root checker verifies that I am rooted.

Try using superoneclick, should be around here somewhere...get permissions back and load up clockwork and backup...wipe cache and install cyanogen or whatever your flavor.

Ota 5.6.894 root?

Can we root 5.6.894? My girlfriend let the ota happen and the d3 lost root. It was previously rooted and i have a nandroid backup after root and bone stock. Can i revert it back or is there more to it than that?

5.6? Yes you can just reroot?
I beleave they fixed the patch to root it on the update. Download rootkeeper from the market.
Sent from my DROID3 using XDA App
they fixed the exploit in 5.7.894, but its still open in 5.6.890
Looks like you might have to SBF the phone back to 5.6, root it, apply perm root, and go from there… it's going to be a pain, but it'll get you back to being rooted.

Jason, have you tried DooMLoRD's root method yet? (Filename DooMLoRD_v3_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su.zip)
(I believe currently it is at version 3.0 and it can be found in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319653)

[Q] Do I need to use an SBF

I am unable to create a backup using safestrap or switch to safe mode. I keep getting an "Error in creating a backup image of /data."
I have a Verizon Droid 3, running rooted stock 5.6.890. I rooted using psouza one click, installed ota rootkeeper, ran that. Installed safestrap, ran that. Rebooted into recovery, tried to enable safe mode, failed. Tried to backup, failed.

Try turning off safe mode. If you can get to recovery you should be fine.

Lemme clarify. Sbf is only if your phone is stuck on the Dual Core screen. ?

Remove ota rootkeeper. That's what's ruining the backup.

R an into same problem a few days ago but with tweaked D3 bootstrap, and it took me forever to work around (much weeping and gnashing of teeth.) Are you sure OTA Rootkeeper is the culprit? I can surely live without it if it is that pernicious,
Ota rootkeeper places an unmodifiable backup on your phone, and the app is only useful if you plan on installing updates through the stock recovery. CWM recovery has issues with things it has no control over, especially your SU binary
Droid 1 Rooted (ChevyNo1 0.9MV Kernel, LGB2.6)
Droid 3 Rooted (Stock Kernel, Custom lite De-bloat)
I removed the ota rootkeeper app and still can't get the backup. Did I miss something?
Sent from my DROID3 using XDA App
Did you unprotect root before you uninstalled? It doesnt remove it unless you open the app and hit the unprotect button
Droid 1 Rooted (ChevyNo1 0.9MV Kernel, LGB2.6)
Droid 3 Rooted (Stock Kernel, Custom lite De-bloat)
Yes, I removed protection before installing. Still getting same error.

So I haven't bricked it, should I uninstall safestrap, do factory reset, and try to redo root? I just want to use safestrap so I can try some new ROMs and still have my original ROM tucked away.

This should work as long as you haven't removed/froze any of the system apps and its %100 stock in tact. If you have titanium backup just make a backup of your user apps so it'll be easier to restore.
Should, meaning its worth a try and easier/faster than flashing the fastboot files.
I ran psouza debloat script but it's reversible. Right?

You also meant doing a factory restore, right?
Sent from my DROID3 using XDA App
How do you remove the file ota rootkeeper puts on. I turned off the protection, then uninstalled. Still can't get /data to backup. Or turn on safe mode.

Unroot back to .902

I had stock version .902. I rooted using Motofail and installed Safestrap & backed up. I didn't delete anything or flash any ROMs. What's the best way to unroot?
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
There is an app called supersu in the play store.
Install it and select full unroot.
Restart device and Congrats, your phone is unrooted.

rooting alone will not, block or stop updates
removing stock apks, and changing other things will
fastest way to fix, flash 890 xml recovery file in rsd lite, wipe data before or after, and try updating again

If you never deleted anything from stock, the easiest way is to change safestrap to non-safe system (or stock, if you are on 3.05) and restart in stock. The update should appear pretty fast.
Again, if you ever debloated stock before installing Safestrap, then the RSD Lite is your best bet.
You would need to root again and reinstall safestrap recovery. Root again with Motofail, because Pete Souza's script no longer works with 5.7.906.
