REMOVING THE TV ICON AND STOPPING THE SERVICE
-------------------------------------------
Can someone else try this to confirm?
I used SKTools for this process. All you really need is a registry editor and something that can view the services. Or if you know how to disable services through the registry you can do that too. i did the following steps and did a soft reset and the TV icon was gone from the bar!
Step 1:
backup registry. SKtools have a backup option where you can do a full backup of the registy
Step 2:
Delete keys Launch95 and Depend95 from HKLM\Init folder in registry.
The launch95 key should reference an MFLO exe.
Step 3:
View services in SKtools and set the MFLO_RSSI service to Manual.
This references a MFLO_RSSI.dll
OR
Remove via registry editor
HKLM\Services\MFLORSSI
Then Soft Reboot and its gone!
I didnt delete any files or services yet before i delete files ill have to make a backup.
The phone started at 50% ram and is creeping up to 60% without those memory improvement cabs for the TP2 installed.
I have yet to test the battery and memory usage over time.
unfortunately there is not an easy way to remove them.
we have to wait for someone to crack the hard spl, get a working kitchen for our new cdma devices and them we will have to remove these programs from the actual ROM, since they are cooked in.
This cannot happn soon enough as far as i'm concerned. and that stupid TV stuff, is not worth 15$ IMHO. $15 for what, 12 channels? and chances are there is no coverage for it, I know there isn't in Augusta GA.
Here's hoping there are enough dev's that have VZW that can help us out.
Removing the TV icon
Rather then opening a new thread ill bump this one.
REMOVING THE TV ICON AND STOPPING THE SERVICE POSTED IN FIRST POST
ZOMGGG!!!!! you are my new hero!!!!! i can confirm that this worked on my Imagio! icon gone, mem 59% and rising, great work!
If only i could learn the rom cooking i would work on that i gotta start reading up on that stuff..
I posted the same thing over at PPCgeeks here are some results.
It seems like from what people are saying that if you have the Memory hack installed it makes no difference in ram usage.
I personally dont have it installed and by the end of the day mine is at 61% after using several apps like bing, radio, IE, etc.. which is 10-20% lower for me but ill still give it a few days to verify that.
As for batttery it was at 55% at the first post, now its only at 45% thats only 10% in 6 hours. This is good for me from when i first got the phone. but again ill still give it a few days to verify that to see if its consistent
Worked. Great. Thanks
real new to SKTools, where is services at?
in the initial menu you have to select the All button so it will show the very long list of tools. Then you should see services half way down the page
Thanks, it worked great. I wonder though what else that affected.
Anyone else find anything we can remove?
Using Memory Maid, you can disable most of the HTC Services. I did that, turned off TouchFLO, and rarely get higher than 60% mem usage - I usually idle around 50% or so.
I have 70% wihtout removing the MFwhatever it is, wonder how much I get if I do remove it.....
...removed services...
...power off...
...power back on...
...waiting for system to boot completely...
I and I have ... 54% ... Meh, has nothing to do with resources somehow it's managing resources.
EDIT: So wait, does the % on the TASK BAR icon is what you are using or what you have left???

I use SlingBox from SlingMedia, works great and I get all extended channels, no monthly fee. I can even add my Dish Network if I wanted to but local channels and extended channels is enough for me, and you don't have to put the box in the channel you want to watch like you do with Dish box, the slingbox has a tuner of it's own...

It's RAM utlization.
So OP had it backwards. The lower the better.
Removing Verizon Internet Setting
Is it possible to permanently remove the verizon internet setting? If i delete them they come right back after 2 seconds. I got T-Mobile.
search for "guardian" with a registry editor, delete all instances. (it should have CM_GUARDIAN or CMGUARDIAN on the name.)
restart phone
remove verizon
install your choice
restart phone
your choice should be in place.
Sorry if this has already been asked, I already searched in Google and in the Forums.
In Portugal we don't have unlimited data plans, actually they are really limited (mine allows only 150MB). Today I've used only the data connection for less then 2h and it used 4MB of data (430KB received and 3.5MB transmitted) and all this time the phone never left my pocket. With the G1 on a average day it used only 2MB.
Does anyone have a similar problem?
How can I track which app is using all this data?
I'm using CyanogenMod, but I have the same problem with the default firmware.
yes i have noticed this too. but here in USA we have unlimited data. the only suggestion i say is to turn of the data connection completely. that's the only solution that i know. it seems like android 2.1 OS is constantly sending data packets, even if you dont have any apps doing anything in the background.
Sorry to hear about the small data plan options, that just stinks
That sucks! Android without data connection looses the whole point, I'll check if there's any other bigger data plan that I can afford...
Still, if anyone knows a solution, please tell me.
Look through all the default programs to check for any syncing options.
News and weather defaults to pull stories every 12 hours I believe. If you don' use that, turn it all off(especially the news).
Check your E-mail frequencies as well if you added any pop/imap addresses. The defaults are 15 minute intervals.
Those are the two major things that pull data off throug default settings.
I already tried to disable "Background data" on preferences and it didn't solve the problem, so it's not gmail, calendar or any other gapp. I'll try to disable the weather (though, since most of the data was transmitted, not received, that shouldn't be the problem)
Haven't enable Latituded in Maps have you? That sends out a **** load.
I have latitude enabled, but I has it enabled in G1 too. I'll try to disable it anyway.
Most googles apps are push so they won't have large usage. When I said email I meant the email application.
No, I didn't use the email app, I've put my POP accounts on Gmail
After killing (almost) all apps using Astro it stopped using the data connection madly. Next I'll reboot and kill the apps one by one until it stops again, if I find anything useful I'll post it here.
System panel will tell you what you network usage is as well.
As far as I know...Maps and rest of Gapps are the cause for this "problem".
I´m not worried about using too much data, as my plan runs unlimited...but about my privacy!
Google is a MONSTER we are feeding each second...the most androiders...the most bigger the "Bicho" will be
Anyway, I just turn sync and any form of geolocation OFF and things get measured...
Netdroid from the market willl help you control your data connection.
I noticed that the "battery use" thing displays the data used by each app, but it only displays the most battery consuming apps. Would this be a way to go?
It's probably an app running wild, but it can be a bit hard to find out which. I installed the chess.com app once and without _ever_ starting it I found out it had used 40MB up/down in a rather small timeframe. Immediate uninstall for programs that waste my bandwith (have a 1GB plan, so not that big of a deal, but still).
That's what I thing, but how do I find out which app it is?
Need someone to confirm this but…
If you do the *#*#4636#*#* “trick” (type this into the phone pad). Then go to Battery History, then change the top drop down box to Network Usage, this appears to list all the apps using the network and how much they are doing so. If you click on an app it shows you how much data it has sent and received.
Is this useful for the OPs question? I’m suspicious because it is under “Battery History”, but it does appear to show which applications are using the most data…?
Yes, that's exactly the point of the Service Menu (it's no trick).
On Cyanogen the option is showing in Spare Parts.
I think your **** is porn-addict and browse youporn since we have flash on your phone when it's in your pocket
So I started using some apps like foursquare/instagram and I wanted to know If even i close them they keep using internet on the background. Since I close them (with data connectivity off) and when i enable data connectivity(long press on power button) it shows immediately some notifications of foursquare.
The main point of this question is that i want to keep data connectivity always on, cause it seems turning on and off wastes some battery, but i don't want apps leaching internet on the background.
Thanks!

1) data use - you could try a data manager app like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobidia.android.mdm which will show you how much data they are using. You might find these apps are using not much of your allowance anyway.
2) task manager (e.g. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.estrongs.android.taskmanager ) can stop apps running in background but most people in the know seem to advise against using things like this.
3) you could try freezing the apps with something like titanium backup and unfreeze them when you want to use them.
4) apps like foursquare or instagram don't really fall into the urgent category. Uninstall them if you don't like what they do. Everything will be fine as you will manage without them

What is OS Services?
Alternatives on rooted phones are firewalls which edit ip tables, such as droidwall.
Even if each app uses a marginal amount of data, when you have lots of apps it can become a huge expense. Most play store apps request internet access, even games and multimedia apps that don't really need it (it can add up to 5-10 mb a day just by having them installed).

Won't a firewall(like droidwall as u said) drain battery since it has to continusly keep running?
Cause my goal here is to try to fight the battery usage of turning data connectivy on/off ;P

No. It edits a file, ip tables, which is the native linux firewall, included in the ace.
It edits it when you enable, disable or change the firewall settings, like creating a text file, and runs on boot. The phone checks this file whenever an app asks for internet, and grants/denies the permission accordingly. Even if you don't have droidwall, the phone checks ip tables rules, droidwall is just a user friendly way to edit and control it.

Really thanks for this awsome program suggestion ;D I'm using as we speak, sadly I didn't found the "OS Services" taht is described on My Data Manager, and sadly they didn't replied with a email yet saying that is that...
I just got a 4G plan now and i have a monthly 1GB until my internet speed is reduced. So, i want to be able to know exactly how much I have used ( i know that I can see this on settings, but there is a more trustable way?) and i want to limit the access of apps to internet, so I can keep my 4G on and not spend this data with crap like updates warning from google play or ads from apps/games.
How do i do that?

[Q] Error message: "turn on background data" followed by wrong instructions?
I keep getting this curious error message "Turn on background data" accompanied by generic instructions as to possible ways this should be done. Which dont seem to apply to the Galaxy S3.
My unit indeed doesnt seem to scan constantly for emails or gmails unless I go to the program and tell it to do so. And it has just started telling me that I can't access the play store unless I enable background data.
I was just moved by t-mobile from a 200 meg plan to a 3 gig plan and I can't remember whether I ever disabled background data to reduce usage or to prevent anonymous tracking in some way. So I am not sure if turning it off is a disadvantage or a security feature? Or possibly some way of preventing Angry Birds from sending me incessant adverts when my young offspring demand my phone to play this game?
I certainly cant remember how I did this, assuming I was aware of doing it!
Does anyone know how to turn on background data and whether having it on is a good thing or a bad thing please?
Go to settings>data usage tap menu button, you should find a restrict background data button..untick it...
And about background data restriction,it's pros and cons completely depends on your usage..if you restrict the background data,no data's ( no means 0 bites ) can be used by Any app until you open it in foreground..its a life saver for those who have planned there data usage for every app they use...but if you are a free minded android user, and want to get everything from your device, you might not restrict your background data..
But it will cost a little (sometimes even more) datas without asking for your permission!

Actually that was why I posted: When I Go to settings>data usage and tap menu button, I find a restrict background data button which is unticked. There IS no restriction of which i am aware, so I wondered where it is on the T-Mobile Galaxy 'skin'?

Ahh I think you have restricted the background data for google play store or play services individually.
Go to data usage and tap on google apps like play store, play services etc.there is a restrict background data option for each app..make sure they are unticked..
If this doesn't help,I think I can't help you further..

This is indeed an odd one:I had checked that as well and restrict data isnt checked there either!
However, as to the immediate problem at hand, thanks for the advice: Is IS checked for the play store.
And maybe this is useful, to know that you can restrict background data for programs like angry birds?

Yep it's possible to restrict background data for all app particularly..
and if you find that restricting and unrestricting it from settings is a bit annoying, you might try apps like android firewall..they are too good to control your data usage.. but root permission required!
