NOTE: you may have to dial *#*#4636#*#* (or use Phone Info from the market) and toggle data mode between modes. For me toggling to GSM only till the screen flashes and then back to GSM/CDMA auto (prl) works perfect. It will show data for a sec then flash off and about 30 seconds it will pop up to full data.

Might be a bad flash back up wipe and flash again cant go wrong there

App Blocking 3g Access

I currently have something on the phone not allowing 3g access. I can't seem to figure out what it is, but I believe I narrowed it down to an App. I did a wipe and clean rom install and 3g was working fine. I did a titanium backup restore of all apps with data and now 3g isn't working again. Anyone know of an easy way to pinpoint what is blocking my 3g? I tried ending all tasks in advanced task manager, but I'm guessing the phone would need a reboot to bring back 3g?
Have you check you settings-wireless & networks-mobile networks-use only 2g networks?
ya I tried using only 2g network, I even tried researching the network and it finds tmobile in the settings. I even went as far as getting a fresh sim card prior to wiping the phone. Somehow after an app/data restore from titanium back up, tmobile internet no longer works still. It's why I wiped in the first place.
1) Double check your APN settings in settings > networks > mobile networks
2) In dialer, dial *#*#4636#*#* > choose phone info > scroll down > verify that 'set preferred network type' reads WCDMA preferred.
3) Also in settings, make sure you didnt set 'use 2g only'. Same location as #2 above
Thanks for your help. I actually just did a nandrestore from an image I had that was a week old and internet came back, so it has to of been something I done within a weeks time. I just hope I don't end up hitting the app that stopped it, if I think it was one, because thats the only thing that makes sense to me.
I have your same problem could you be so kind as to attach the img you put so I try too? thanks

Then you will have his phone.
you mean....?
i Think i have a similar problem... I turn 3g on and after half an hour i cannot access the internet anymore... The sign in the notification area shows the "sent arrow" blinking but the receive arrow does nothing... I have apndroid to control my 3g usage... I unistalled it, did a reboot but again the problem persists... Do you have anything in mind???
I forgot to mention that the exact same thing happens with 2g network as well

When someone does a nandroid backup, it backs up all the data on the phone. All of it, if you restore it to your phone, you will be logged into google as him, you will have all his contacts, messages, settings etc. If one of you downloads something, it may download on both machines. The only way to fix it would be to wipe both of them.
i have the same problem. two days ago its working fine. i just turn on turn off the wifi and it just works again.
Can also try turning the airplane mode on/off. This problem occurs if you use APNdroid or similar, or toggle mobile connection on the Desire ROM.
tired of trying and try to wipe, reset, several rom, so I decided to send it to HTC in England ... and the problem is which has the bootloader unlock my ...

3G not working...

I am running Fresh 2.3.3 with baseband 2.42.01.04.27 and for some reason, my 3G is not working. I have tried getting the stock radio and updating my PRL (my PRL version right now is flipz_01). Nothing seems to working. Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks a lot for any suggestions

I noticed that to. When I have WiFi activated, 3G disappears. I don't know if it's a real estate issue, or it isn't working.

Put the phone in airplane mode and leave it there for a minute or so, then turn airplane mode back off. That refreshes your phone's data connection. Then also try updating Profile in the Settings->About phone->System updates menu -- that refreshes your signal and data profiles with Sprint towers.

Thanks, but it didn't work... this is getting frustrating! I've tried everything! At least they're sending me a refurb, hopefully I get a dust filter this time around, too (and a "with Google" sticker on the back!!!!)

How to turn off Cellular data

Ok, I know that I can go to the settings -> network -> cellular data and turn it off.
What I found is that Google maps/OSMAnd will turn the cell data on when GPS turns on even if cell data setting is off. Although I found that OSMAnd in offline mode does not use more than few bytes of data (My prepaid PP account did not even budge 1 cent), but the issue is that it leaves that option turned on until I physically turn it off.
I tried using Droid wall and APNSwitch, but to no avail, data connection still shows up on my call log so data is definitely being used.
How can I make sure that it stays off and nothing can turn it back on unless I manually turn it on?
Thanks.
PS: I am currently using MIUI 1.10.28

You could try some Apps still using the old APN-disable method of renaming the APN so the phone cannot connect.
I believe https://market.android.com/details?id=com.curvefish.widgets.apnonoff&feature=search_result still does that

I DID try APN ON/OFF thing and it still did not work.
Now, I put CM7 7.1 on it and found that Google Earth no longer turn on the 3G data anymore. (Takes much longer to get the location lock though).

[NEED HELP] Data Connection Problems with CM7

I have problems activating 3G data when switching from WiFi.
Before rooting, I used to keep my data off most of the time. If I wasn't in a WiFi area I would manually go to settings>Networks>Mobile Networks and turn my data on. It would show a 3G/H on my status bar.
After rooting and flashing CM7.1, I keep my data on all the time through my power widget in the status bar. Even when I'm not in WiFi, the 3G/H symbol does not show in the status bar.
I have tried switching it on manually from the settings>network>mobile network but that hasn't worked.
I've switched to flight mode and back and rebooted my phone and it hasn't worked.
I have an active 3G data plan from Vodafone with all settings in place
Is there something I can do to make my data plan work again?
it happend me before but i dont have root and im on stock rom,
Hold the power button till phone options pop up and click data network mode and wait.. It could take up to 2min for the phone to fine a 3g/h network. If that dont work try to switch it to 2g. Maybe your carrier has low signal where you are...
If those dont work restore to stock rom.

I have a minimum of three bars of signal anywhere in my house.
Ive tried both 2g/3g
I dont have a data network mode option on CM7 when I press the power button
When I had an unrooted stock rom, the power button button would never work for me
I have the same problem with the icsunday rom for galaxy ace. I like the rom its faster but i cant connect to 3g/edge. I have tried a lot of modems and doesnt work. Can someone help me with this?

It's an outdated thread, but it's not the correct section, why don't you try to configure APN manually? or coping the correct APN file and setting the correct permissions?
ohh..okie,sorry for that and thank you for telling me....
and sorry for the long long long late reply..-_-.

[Q] Why is my mobile data conking out when icons suggest it's working!

OK so for the last few days i can see that i have a mobile data connection - all looks good with icons showing bars and getting 3g or 4g - however when i try to access a website it just doesn't work and there is no connection. I then have to turn Airplane mode on and off or restart the phone and it works. Am on Trickdroid with Elemental kernel. Any ideas?

Did you have this on stock ROM? If no then try clearing the cache or even wiping and reinstalling. Had a thing were my market was wonky with downloading after trickdroid did a reinstall and it cleared it up.
Did you need to manually enter any setting like APN?
Fast Dormancy? There is an option to turn it off. Check and see if your carrier supports it as its enabled as default in TrickDroid.
Last a call to your carrier might do the trick. They can reset or re provision your data which in rare cases fix problems.

Thank you - that was very helpful. I think it was fast dormancy - i changed it in build.prop to disable it as my carrier doesn't support it and it has been good since then.
