Hi guys I did something dumb last night as I was tired and not thinking. I installed the new market (vending.apk) on my Xoom and quickly realized its for phones only
Anyone have a link to the stock vending.apk ?
I thought you could go into manage applications, find market and click uninstall updates.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
I tried the same with same result
Could not get the app back, even with TB. Honeycomb-market consists of 2 files: vending.apk and finsky.apk. Finally I had to rip the files from out of the file "system.img" (part of the AU-Telstra-FW) by using "unyaffs", copied them back to "/system/app" and set the permissions to "rw-r-r". APKs from Tiamat-ROM didn't work, tried that first w/o success...
I could upload them to my Dropbox, but i'm not sure if they'll work for you...
Edit:
Uploaded mine: http://db.tt/cTCSrkb
To replace them in the file system you have your Xoom to be rooted.

Let me know if it works

Only thing is Im not rooted on the Xoom so Im not sure that would work.

Ill try it as soon as I get home. Thanks!
ICS keyboard installation
1. download this file
2. put .apk on sdcard
3. use root explorer to move .apk to the /system/app folder, dont forget to click the "Mount R/W" button at the top right corner while in the /system/app folder or it may not let you move the .apk or set permissions if you dont.
4. long press on apk once moved, select "Permissions" check the top box under "read" and the top box under "write" leave the others how they were. (LOOK BELLOW)
5. reboot phone and tada!
THIS IS HOW THE PERMISSIONS SHOULD LOOK THE "X" MEANING A CHECK MARK.
R..W..E
X..X..X
X..X..X
X......X
R = READ
W = WRITE
E = EXECUTE

This is a very very simple installation, for thoughs of you that arnt getting it to work i really dont know what else to tell you the link above for the .apk does work i have downloaded it and followed my directions written here to a T and it installed everytime. Once again this WILL NOT work for MIUI Roms.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*EDIT*
changed the download host to megaupload, all the problems should be fixed now!
*EDIT # 2*
im pretty sure this does not work on MIUI. i just recently switched over to MIUI and noticed it will not work. I have tested it on cyanogen based roms like NSCollab and Cyan7 and it works great.
same as below
dont download
this is a bad file
nxt page or op for proper download

i wouldn't see why it wouldn't work as long as your phone is running gingerbread, all of the boxes should be checked but the last box under write, all the special permission boxes should all be unchecked.

.894 keeps trying to update to my device and fails because of forever root. I know I don't want to update, but I need to find a way to stop this notification from popping up. Does anyone know a way short of unrooting and letting it update?
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
If you want to keep root, I wouldn't. But if you really need to, take mount_ext3.sh and remove the lines of code forever root added.
Delete the files from the cache folder.

Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
I think you need to use root explorer to be abler to see them there is two files in the cache folksy you will need to remove, both saying something about .894, I had the same issue with .893, removed those files and it stop annoying me.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
Ok, found an .apk in there that I deleted. The inly other file was what looked to be a log from .893
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
I deleted it and it is still trying to update.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
Reboot after you delete it.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
You need to open root explorer and then go to /system/etc/security rename the file otacerts.zip to otacerts.zip.bak and then reboot your phone and that should do it. Hope this helps
If your stock .893 not rooted what does .894 do for you

Kill your root, that's all it was released for
If your not rooted it probably closes the exploit

Didn't work. Still trying to update. I don't think it ever installed it, it keeps trying to download it. Looks like I may have to sacrifice root. Any other ideas?

Titanium backup and freeze updater. Defrost when you need it.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk
It comes up as download of update failed. It is annoying because it will break into tasks. Say you are shooting a video, it will pop in and stop the recording.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
Did you delete both files related to .894 in the /cache folder?
The only things in /cache is downloadfile.apk, lost and found and a folder names recovery that has a logfile in it. I tried deleting downloadfile.apk several times and it keeps coming back.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
That apk shouldn't be there. At least I don't have that. Try renaming it to .bak on the end and rebooting.

I checked for downloadfile.apk and it stayed gone this time. It still tries to update. Will probably come back after reboot.

Thought I would share this. My apologies if it has already been posted. I came across this a few minutes ago. This is a link to download a flashable zip to install the stock jb (4.1) apps on any device running ics.
Follow the instructions on the page and take a look at the updated apps for jb!

try mounting system in recovery first, then flash it. I'm not using safestrap right now so I unzipped the file and manually copy and posted what was inside and it worked fine.

I did this with both mount/System and flash along with copy and paste. This did work for everything except for Gmail and Facelock. I completely lost the Gmail app and the facelock option when trying both ways.
I am not sure what I will try next. Going to have to noodle it a bit. Really like the magazine apk!
Yeah I had that same problem with Gmail. Didn't try the face unlock though. Magazines is pretty cool, but I'm loving the sound search widget. Better than shazam and soundhound

Did not coping the gmail apk over work for you?
No, it would show in /system/app but not in my app drawer. The other weird thing that happened is after I got the jb versions running, the ones that came stock on the bionic "updated" to their "current" versions. Had to disable auto update to keep them.

First note that I am on official 4.0.4 USA rom (USA model) that is stock but rooted.
Downloads from any browser won't work (chrome/stock/firefox) but I can download off say Tapatalk or within apps. So long as the link isn't to a mirror (file sharing website) it seems that is has something to do with the "downloads" app. As if it won't accept downloading through that app. Anybody else have similar problema/found a solution.
Also if somebody doesn't mind posting the downloads app (for stock 4.0.4 p7310) and see if I can delete then install to see if that works.

I once had that prob on a froyo rom on other device. Maybe the file u r dwding isnt supported by the device. I think dolphin browser can handle this bug. It has an external dwd manager.

The files are there. It's just the Download app doesn't know that they are. Use a file explorer to look in /sdcard/Download

Thank you both for replying. After flashing a rom and still not being able to download stuff I done some cleaning up I my sdcard partion. I Found a "file" called downloads.txt. After deleting the file downloads can now happen. I believe the problem is caused but how Android manages downloads. As the was no directory for downloads it was trying to download items into /sdcard/downloads. As that directory was a file (not even sure how that one happened) and not a folder it would attempt then fail.
You should change. txt to the original file extension e.g. zip
