[Q] Spare part : sim reader

Hello,
Some days are better than others...
I managed to break several of the small metal pins in the sim reader, don't ask me how but I did it =(
I unmounted the phone and it's really just a small circuit board linked to the motherboard with a single ribbon
I have googled for where to find this spare part but no chance so far
Would you know where I could find this part and help me revive my Nexus S ?

Did you find a solution ? My sim card reader (or sim card tray) is broken too and I can't find the replacement part to buy...

Couldn't you guys just do a warranty claim? It shouldn't break that easily unless you were messing with it.

I can't claim warranty since it's "customer induced damage" : needed to insert my sim card into an Ipad. Not willing to lose my micro sim adapter, I put it in the Nexus S without a sim in an tore the pins when taking it out
Moreover, I live in Europe and Samsung has after-sales per region, if not country. they would'nt accept an US purchased handset anyway.
Didn't find any trace of this spare part on any other site but globaldirectpart and it's still showing as "Coming soon"....

I am in Brazil and the phone hasn't arrived in here so Samsung Brasil don't touch it.... despite the fact that they are going to say that this is not covered by warranty.
I did not find anywhere else too...

How about insurance then? But I'm assuming you don't have that either or can't.
Good luck to finding the part though. Globaldirectpart seems to have a tendency of inflating price.

Don't have any insurance for my phones and it wouldn't work either cos I damaged the phone myself =)
I don't really mind the price since it would cost me about 50 euros including shipping due to the exchange rate between $ and €. Just missing my phone a lot and tired of waiting =)

Yep! We still waiting for the replacement part to be available... I read about a guy that replaced it with a Galaxy S part... but I did not figure out how.

I called a few suppliers in Asia but no luck so far
it's killing me to have my Nexus S in a drawer for a 10 bucks spare part =(

Yes, me too... that's why I love Apple and my iPhone... Samsung sucks... If I find it anywhere I will post it. I will try to find some more information about replacing it with Galaxy S part.

Anyone have an update on this? I just broke one of the pins inside the sim tray as well....I am unable to find the parts anywhere online. This is driving me nuts....I'll even pay to repair it!

How did you break yours? I can see the op breaking his with an empty micro sim adapter, but if this is breaking from normal usage, that's not good..

Not yet. I've read that it is possible to replace it with the Galaxy S sim tray. I've bought one and I am waiting it to arrive. I should have it in one week.

Bad News! The Galaxy S connector is different from the Nexus S one. Look at the picture:

I believe that the guy who changed it, changed only the sim part, keeping the "sim board" the same... I don't know how to do it, I will try to find out, if anyone know, please help me.

if you read the post carefully, the guy did say sim tray, you can use most sim tray, as long as the pins are position 3+3 at each sides, but you must know how to solder/desolder.

Do you know how do I do it ? I know how to solder/desolder, but I don't know exactly what should I do.
Here is a picture of the Galaxy S Sim Tray. Should I desolder this points marked by the red arrow (and off course in the oposite side) and sold it to the Nexus S board ? Is the sim tray just fixed by this solded points ?

Dont you have warranty?It it better to get it checked in service center first.

i put a microsim to sim adapter and it broke the sim contacts on the tray!! Thats why I don't have warranty. Do anyone know what can I do???

How much does Samsung charge for this repair? I think it is better to have them repair it.

U should try diferent micro sim before u buy main board, u have two type of micro sim , sim with smaller chip and with bigger, the smaller one are causing problem, some of them are not working and some of them have problem with contact.

i have same problem before, i wen to network and said that ive lost my micro sim and i told them that i want normal sim replacement, because normal sim have big chip, after they send me new sim i have no problem...

Right now i have a regular sim on it and it recognize it but turns to "simcard remove please reboot phone". Someone repair the sim tray but thats what happens now.

and that someone screwed it up worse..... i should be able to fix it i pm'd you

..broke mine too!!
..did a similar thing to my Note.....the sim card caught one of the connectors in the sim tray and pulled it off!!!...found a cool video on how to dismantle it (1st video on on "dismantle galaxy note"search) on you tube....on closer inspection the connector had broken and pulled away from the circuit board too (not happy!!). Have hunted high and low to try and find someone who could supply a replacement main board....without any luck - if there's anyone out there that could point us in the write direction/add a link here....i'd love you forever!!

vicdroid84 you may be in luck......have found these guys, their based in Birmingham and are called Intercity business telecommunications (wont let me add the link here) tel:0121 643 7373.....have spoken to them, they can supply and fit a new mobo for about £130......takes about 48 hours upon them getting it to repair...am sending mine of today!!!!!........yipppeeeee!!

Samsung replaces the SIM tray. I read it is less than 50$ and sometime it is free.
Changing MOBO for a SIM tree is like changing a Car engine for a small nut

i recommend you take it to a company that's not Samsung to fix it, Samsung wont fix it if you don't have a warranty

Just pointing out to the OP that the above might be misinformation. The fix should be free if it's a warranty and $50 if it is a sim issue.

and as i said earlier.. if samsung wont fix it .. i can and will... and i can say so far i havent voided a warranty as in the warranty is still good after ive done the repair.. thats how clean..... so anyone with the problem just pm me... its legit too. got pretty good at board level repairs over the past 22 years working for some big name manufacturers... just trying to help...already helped a few on here....

Sim pins
I too broke off 1 of the 3 pins pulling a microsim out. I ordered and received the sim connector from parts4repair.com. But I think I have to solder off the current connector then solder on the replacement. Am I correct?

well its that or let someone else do it... as ive said pm me... i fix them and fix them well... cant even tell i was in the phone... i have references and pics of previous repairs...
i will say beware if you try it... there is quite a bit of stuff you can screw up if you dont know what youre doing...

Sim board/tray

Hey all, I have a Nexus S, i9020a model, and I broke one of the pins for the sim tray on my phone. Did it with a micro-sim adapter, which i don't know why I started using it since the micro-sim worked fine without it, but anyway upon removing the adapter, a pin fell off. I called up Samsung, and they said to send it to them for repair, I even told them I did it and they said depending on the technician, they would decide to charge or for it to be free (it's still under my 1 year warranty, it's up at the end of the month). Now I haven't sent it out yet, but here's my question, I found a place that sells the sim board for $40, should I just buy that and fix it myself, or send it to Samsung and possibly be charged more for the fix? What would you do?

Well, it really depends on you. I know here in Canada they take about 2 weeks to repair your phone and you have to rent a loaner phone which you might or might not get the money back. If you're handy and careful the $40 might be worth it if your inpatient and don't want to wait.

Broken sim contacts

I hope this is alright in this forum. I have a friend with an international note and he was using a micro sim with an adapter. It hung up or got stuck as he was taking it out and now the phone won't read a sim card at all. I guess there s a small ridge in the adapter . Is this at all common to the note or is there a known fix?
He bought it thru Amazon and I think there is no warranty . Is it possible that a small tab is just bent and can be put back? I am much more comfortable messing with my fone (cappy) than he is so I looked under the hood and its all packed so tightly I couldn't see much.

Amazon has warrantee. Good service as well regarding buyer protection.
Samsung itself has warrantee, he should be able to get it fixed at a local service centre faster. Warrantee is from moment of purchase,so bring your receipt. So far I have read of 4 accounts with microsim. Not sure if its Samsungs fault though you can try.

All the fault off Cupertino with their %ù"é(é" micro and nano sims.

how about apple, all their phones are microsim now.

I told him just to contact amazon about it. Apparently the international model does not have a warranty thru amazon.

[Q] SGS i9000 sim tray and network issues

Hey folks,
I have a small issue with my SGS i9000 GT which I bought in 2011. I have a nano sim which I use in my HTC one M8 and I use a sim adapter to use the same sim in my SGS. Recently I was stupid enough to just put the adapter void of the sim into SGS sim tray and while pulling it out, I damaged the sim tray. I think the 2 little forks out of 3 were uprooted. :crying:
I took it a small repair shop nearby and try to get the sim tray changed. Now it detects the sim but it shows no service. I tried it with couple of other small shops and they say that the IC needs to be changed. Has anyone experienced something like this? I run a Mackay rom, will factory reset or flashing again help if it's a network / software issue. Any light in this regard would be appreciated.

I also "almost" made the same mistake.. Your most likely gonna have to replace whatever board to fix your sun tray. You've most likely pulled the pins free of the board. Maybe a new sim tray and someone who is really good at soldering can fix this. maybe...
doubt very much it is software as it was working before you did this. But it's worth a try re-flashing. In my opinion your going to need to replace the board with the memory chips attached, if I remember right from when I've dismantled my S1.
I would find a dirt cheap phone on eBay with a broken screen and pull the board with tray from that and put it in yours. Doing so with also mean your going to need to backup your data as you'll have new internal memory.
It's not too difficult to do this yourself, lots of good YouTube videos. Also what I've had to do in the past when I fried my internal memory.
Maybe I'm right, maybe I'm wrong. Good luck!

I see this as a DIY opportunity :laugh: I will try to reflash the phone and if it doesn't work then I'll DIY the IC myself. I will update the progress here. Thank you for your valuable opinion.
