My Nexus was on 5.0.41, all working sweet, then it stopped "finding" the network. No update, flashing or anything was done prior to the problem.
I tried a SIM from another provider, but still - the "No Service" is written on screen, and when I try to search for networks, it says "Error searching for networks".
I then tried the following ideas (nothing helped):
- Reflashed the Radio image.
- downgraded the Radio image.
- Upgraded it again.
- Flashed the Stock ROM (unrooted and rooted).
- Flashed CM5053.
All was done with wipes as needed.
Any suggestions will be more than welcomed!
Can the device just get bricked like that? with no reason?
It sometimes identifies the SIM's provider (Orange for example) but always with No Service.
It sounds like your SIM card slot isn't holding the card in tight enough to make full contact... try putting a business card, cut down to size, between the SIM and the phone's frame (note, not the contacts side, but the back side) to force the SIM down onto the reader tighter.
If that does nothing, not sure what to tell you?
it didn't help
I'm Italian and I have the same your problem .. I only work in 2G GSM'...ve tried to see if you do so?
I opened another tread here Forum
You need a new SIM.
I just had this problem on Friday. The SIM some how falls of the network and your provider network will not allow it to reconnect.
I can't remember, but if I am right Orange is owned/owns by T-Mobile. Hence they have the same network.
The puzzling part about this is why it happens. This is the second SIM I have gone through with my N1, I also had one go with my G1, my sister bought that G1 and the SIM went out again. My mom bought her G1 same day as me and hers has died once. My friend has a MT3G and his has died two times now. I find this extremely annoying.
I tried every suggestion on the internet for repairing or troubleshooting a SIM. It is a waste of time. Well, everything short of dropping it in isoproply alcohol to clean the contact.
I tried a 2G and a 3G SIM on mine, and had the same result, so my problem is different.
My device just doesn't register with the network, no matter what provider or SIM generation I choose.
Can I ask for a RMA if I unlocked the bootloader?
I do not know you definitely do not pass it under warranty
Ryan then you say you clean the contacts of the nexus or the sim with isopropyl
Mine is now doing that as well and so far everything that I tried isn't fixing it. I get it to connect briefly with edge and then nothing. I am going to try a new sim tonight after work and see if that helps, otherwise unsure of what to do after that...anybody got any answers or suggestions?
I've been suffering from this... have an RMA coming but I got mine to work. Make sure you also have CDMA preferred on there or whatever the default is. If it says unknown you have to reboot the radio somehow. I pulled my battery, waited 5-10 seconds. Then i went and checked airplane mode on and off. Then i checked the service menu again. I can't remember if i had to pull the battery another time but it came back from "unknown" to cdma preferred. You can also try turning the radio on and off via the service menu. Finally select your radio bands for your region by pressing the menu button under phone information again in the service menu and select radio bands. I'm not sure if automatic is a good or bad idea but it couldn't hurt testing it if you still have some issues even after selecting your region specific bands. After this you should be able to maybe search and register or you may need to turn the radio on and off again via airplane or the service menu. I played around with it alot to get it running again.
Also I'm tmobile usa using the one for t-mobile bands. I'm not sure if CDMA preferred is a world wide setting or if its gsm or something else.. but the bands are specific to your region definitely.
My N1 will not reconnect to a mobile network if it has been sitting for a few hours in a no-coverage area, such as a building. I cannot get it to reconnect, even after refreshing the network search. This action only leaves me with no result or a message saying that there was an error in searching or connecting to mobile networks. The only solution is to restart the phone. Every time I try to turn the phone off after this error has occurred, the shutdown sequence hangs until either I become frustrated and do a battery pull, or it automatically restarts and do a battery pull, or it automatically restarts itself. Furthermore, the phone used to give me an error notification saying that the phone does not have carrier service. Now, it does not. Furthermore, the phone used to give me an error notification saying that the phone does not.
I tried uninstalling all my programs and nothing has worked for me. I've also tried toggling the airplane mode to no avail.
I'm considering putting on the cyanogen ROM to see if it would fix this error, but I am hesitant to void my warranty. It's a pretty serious problem as I'm very frequently in a building where I don't get service. It's quite frustrating to have to wait to reconnect to a mobile network once I leave the building and hope that the error didn't occur or have to do a battery pull every time I realize that the phone simply won't reconnect.
Can anyone suggest any solutions?
Mod it. What have you got to lose? Your overall performance will increase. The radio signal may even improve. Your call.

thanks for the tip. i've been thinking about it. it's the warranty i don't want to lose. eh i'll keep thinking about it.
this phone sucks. it's glitchy, can be sluggish. iphone got dumbed down but at least its functions work.

Hey!
You dont want to lose your warranty, then use it!
Your phone seems to be faulty...
My phone is experiencing the same problem as of yesterday. Won't connect. Wonder if it's a T-Mobile issue.

Its only glitchy coz you have stock rom
Cyanogen is really stable and adds alot of features / functionality.
Fair enough you dont want to lose warranty but i remember in the general thread that lots of hardware failures and others can still fix your n1 under warranty even though they unlocked the bootloader.
I too have this problem, hopefully the 2.2 update will fix the problems.
Can you guys confirm if its android or your service provider thats causing this...

I have the same problem and it's starting to bother me a lot because my car is parked in a garage with no coverage. My in-car BT then becomes useless as my phone won't reconnect to the network once I exit the garage
I just called Google support 10 mins ago about this and they went through normal protocol to reset to factory settings. They then called Tmo and let them know what the issue was while I was still on the phone. Tmo unregistered my phone from the network while my battery was taken out of my phone and then reregistered my phone to the network. Tmo asked me to monitor this for a few days and call them directly (not Google) if the issue persists. They will then elevate this to a higher level because they feel this would be a network problem, and not a hardware issue.
Hope this helps! Please post what you have tried to solve the problem!

^ it worked! my phone reconnects to the cellular network after what Google/Tmo did for me on the phone!
I haven't tried calling tmobile, but it is NOT something that will be fixed by hopping on cyanogen's rom. I've been rooted on cyanogen's rom for quite some time and this problem still exists on my n1 which is SUPER annoying. I will try calling tmobile to see if they can fix it on their side, but rooting is not the fix here.
I had the same issue. I used anycut and phone info shortcut and changed the wireless default setting to us and it totally fixed the problem. Have not had that issue again.

I resolved this by going to the T-Mobile store where they replaced my SIM card. They made a copy to a new SIM card, installed it and everything works fine.
For the record symptoms included:
* "Error while searching for network" message
* Found networks but said "your SIM card is not authorized for this network" when connecting
* Network listed as "No service" or "Emergency calls only | T-Mobile"
I get this too with an at&t phone.
Have asked for a replacement device from HTC (since the reception is crappy to begin with).
I also have audio quality problems when reception is only 1-2 bars.
Will see if the new phone is better.
I had this problem regularly. It hasn't happened once since I upgraded to Froyo, so I think it has been fixed in that release.
sometimes have this too, i fix it by going to the settings > wireless > mobile networks > APN. at first i deleted and retyped my password in the selected APN, now i just click my network in the APN settings, don't change anything and leave. It immediately reconnects after that.
edit: and i have stock froyo & live in belgium.
I got a new, replacement phone from HTC today.
This new phone has a BIG PROBLEM with this issue.
Even if I am only without reception for a couple of seconds (go through the garage, etc.) it will not connect to any network until I reboot.
My old phone would only experience this problem maybe 25-35% of the time.
Very, very annoying!!!

I had similar issues and called tmobile support. I was first linked to Google support. They went through the similar process as described by in the first page. (#*#*4636*#*# select USA band etc). While I was on hold, they called t mobile tech support and had them reset network connection and tried to get me onto a different tower etc.
Tmobile support stated that my sim card (had for about 2 years) was the cause of the issue as they can't handle smartphones as well as their new sim cards. They also said the new sim should improve reception and connection stability (Don't see how a new sim could do this but what do I know?). Moreover, they noted my account and told me to go into the nearest store for a new sim card. Went into the nearest tmobile store told them the issue, they pulled up my account and gave me a new sim. Took less then 5 minutes and I have not had the issue with staying connected to the tmobile network.
I will update this after a few days to see if I still have the issue.
I have the same problems that i cannot connect to network here in germany. first i think it was my sim card, but befor i had another provider (E-Plus) where i had the same problems with reconnecting to network. and one day my eplus sim card is broken so i had to buy a new one by t-mobile. i have tried a lot of roms from here (cyanogen/ 5.0.7 /5.0.8T5 Kangorama rodriquezstyle and leofroyo) everyone seems to have the same problems with reconnecting to network. i hope im not alone with my problems and someone can help.
hmm...
Count me as another. I just upgraded to froyo and it went beserk. Had no service for a while. It would only come on after constantly tapping "select network automatically" until it kicked me out of the menu. It started getting better but kept kicking me out of 3g. I set it to stay always on 3g and it seems to be better... still I'm going to call tmobile and see if I can get a new sim as well.
Thanks for the info guys!
Before I buy another used Captivate to swap motherboards, I'd like to know if there's anything else I should look at.
Scenario: Bought used Captivate with bad USB port and running CM9 Beta. Once I finally got my SIM card, I had no network signal (couldn't even find any operators when you search for them). Redid the APNs multiple times though those seem to be for Internet and MMS rather than cell. Wifi works fine. Flashed to CM 9.1 stable. No difference. Verified phone is unlocked. Verified IMEIs match. Verified baseband was listed. Verified my phone # is listed. Flashed to CM 7.1. No difference. I wanted to flash to stock but can't because Mobile Odin won't work with CM's partition layout. Thus, it seems I am stuck with CM or MIUI.
Is there anything in efs or another system directory that could prevent me from getting a signal?

I've been with you on another thread so I know for a fact you've tried all that stuff. But I don't recall did you ever try to flash an new or different modem? If you haven't or just want to try a new one I attached the one I use. Or I can get you the link to a page with a whole lot of others to choose from.
Other than trying a new modem I'm at a loss as to what it could be besides hardware at this point. Btw were you ever able to test your sim card in another phone to make sure it's functioning? Or do you know anyone with an att sim that you could test your phone with?
Things you could try:
1. Turn the flight mode on and then turn it off and see if that helps.
2. Open the phone and see if the antenna's contact points are okay.
3. Open the nv_data.bin in efs directory and see if the value at the offset(you can search for the exact value) that stores the network lock flag is 00. If it is 01 then it is still locked. I know you checked for the lock already but it never hurts to double check. You could also take a look at nv.log and see if there is anything there at the end that might be helpful. You could also check for lock by dialing *#7465625#.

My next move was to flash some other modems actually, but I may wait until after tomorrow (see below). I tried to swap with my SIL who is on the same service but her phone takes the micro SIM. I'll try again Wed night with another choir member that has an ATT S2 I think.

1. No help.
2. Where are the contact points? I've not found any schematic or disassembly instructions for this phone. I can see the external antennae connector, of course.
3. That was how I verified it was unlocked. All the bits in the appropriate area were 00. I'll have to look at the log file.
How would I dial any service code with no service? It tells me "mobile network not available" once I hit the Phone button.
New Info
I'm really hoping this is the answer to all my headaches the past several days trying to figure out why this phone won't get service. I just spent the past hour on the phone with my OLD carrier trying to re-activate my OLD phone with a different number to give to my son. We had to jump through a bunch of hoops because my old line was still "suspended" because of the port order. It is due to be "deleted" tomorrow. So even though my NEW carrier said activation was complete and my OLD phone stopped making and receiving calls 8 days ago, could the fact my number has been "suspended" be the reason I can't see any GSM networks?
Sadly my SIM worked in another phone but his didn't in mine.
Looks like I have a mini netbook.

I'm not getting ANY signal. It always shows -110 dbM or less and 0 or 1 asu. The seller said the GPS worked fine, but I don't get a lock on that either (but maybe you need to "fix" the GPS with each ROM flash?). I've only been concerned with cell service at this point.
I'm going to pick up another Captivate in another hour. I'd like to root and unlock it right there to make sure it works, but don't think I'm that good yet to do quickly and safely. Assuming it's running KK4, the Easy Root pgm seems simple enough to root. May also try SuperOneClick.
For unlocking, I'd hoped to use Galaxy_S Unlock, but couldn't figure out how to get it onto my micro SD card to load onto the other phone.
The "new" Captivate works. It came with KK4 and a good USB port. I'll flash something onto it soon once I learn how to properly back up everything.
glad your new one works.

If you start the phone without a sim card in it, does it detect its absence and vice versa too? If that functions properly then another possibility could be that the IMEI of the phone might be blacklisted. It might have been reported as stolen. You could call your carrier to find that out.

Yes, it detected whether a SIM was in it or not. When I had signed up for the new service it had said the IMEI was OK. I guess that doesn't mean it stayed that way. I would think that would just prevent you from accessing the service, not prevent you from detecting a signal at all. When I picked up the second used Captivate, his SIM card had been deactivated, but it still showed it was getting a signal.

Once I had my efs folder deleted while flashing a rom and my IMEI defaulted to some value and it showed no signal at all. I checked IMEI and realized it was a different one and that led me to look at the efs. Once I restored the efs folder from my back up, all was fine again. Therefore I think if your IMEI is blacklisted it could happen and hence made that suggestion to call your carrier. Your carrier might also be able to tell you if your phone made any attempts to register on their network or not.
Hey everyone. I bought a Mi 11 Ultra from china but I don't know why isn't getting signal at all. It detects the SIM but it doesn't let me make or receive calls neither messages, and obviously it doesn't connect to mobile networks. Can somebody help please?
Where are you, what network are you trying to use and have you got some screenshots of your network and SIM settings?
Hey, thanks for answering! Im in Mexico and about the network, any of them. I thought of changing the ROM from the CN to the global one to see if that help, but I need the mobile data to unlock the bootloader, and since the phone isn't getting signal, I cant do that.
P. S. Sorry, what do you mean by SIM settings?
Attached are screenshot of my SIM settings. Yours will be similar. Make sure your apn is set correctly. Make sure your SIM is recognised. Just basic setting checks. May be try other sim slot and of course, make sure it's right way up for either slot.
Without any screenshot I cannot see what may be wrong, so start again with SIM. Shiny side outwards and make sure it is recognised.
Hi again. Yeah, I have tried with both slots for the Sim, each one the correct way, but is the same result for both of them. Thanks for the example of the SIM settings, now I attach mine. As you may see, the SIM is getting recognized, just don't know why isn't getting signal. I've also tried with other company's SIMs, but I get no different result.
Looks good. I think you need to try with another SIM on different network and same. Try this SIM in different phone as it looks all good on screenshot but may be provider has not enabled it properly. If different network SIM known to be working doesn't work in your it must be hardware, hopefully not .
Also look at settings, all specs. Check SIM status and press 5 times on memory for deep phone info.
Hello and thank you again! Yeah... I've tried different SIM from different companys, all of them known to be working, but none of them has worked on this phone. I'm starting to lose hope... But here are the other settings, just to make sure isn't about software
The screenshot show that your radio is off. This is saying that your phone SIM is not turned on for some reason.
There is not much anyone remotely can do, if you are unable to get it turned on.
Maybe someone else has an idea? If not, and it cannot be resolved by resetting the mobile network ( in settings somewhere) or phone reset, then it may be back to seller as a hardware fault. Sorry I can't help. Let's hope someone else can?
Thanks a lot for your effort. Since you told me that the problem could be the hardware, I asked the seller about this issue and he told me that this problem is covered by the warranty, so I'll send the phone back to them. Again thanks a lot for answering!!
Just for info have you seen this thread about att? https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/not-a-recognized-device-by-att.4462649/#post-87088003
No, I hadn't heard about that, but still, I wouldn't hesitate on changing my provider if another one works, but since I tried changing to another provider SIM and nothing happened, I guess it was a hardware problem. Thanks a lot for the info!
Try doing manual search of network. If it shows nothing then try checking network frequencies of your network provider and comparing them with this phone supported frequencies. Sometimes its due to your network provider doesn't operate the frequency which this phone supports.

Hello,
my Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro running on stock MIUI Global 12.5.1.0 (RFKEUXM) can now suddenly not connect to my mobile carrier.
I hope somebody can help me out.
Some facts and stuff I have tried:
The connectivity icon on the top is just grayed out now and shows an X.
But that was not the case in the morning today.
At that time it showed full bars, but not the usual 4G text and the mobile internet did not work. After some attempts written below it is now just gray.
Mobile internet and cell service do not work.
I have rebooted multiple times.
The IMEI for both SIM slots is shown as 0.
No baseband version is shown.
(I am sure that this was also not the case early in the morning.)
I have never installed a custom ROM on this device, bootloader was never unlocked.
The SIM card is correctly inserted and the phone number is shown in the settings for SIM slot 1.
Trying SIM slot 2 (incl. reboot) did not fix the problem.
The SIM status shows that the service is not available, also on the top left when the phone is locked. ("Dienst nicht verfügbar" in German locale.)
Trying the SIM in another phone works, which I think makes it not a carrier problem.
Trying another SIM in my phone also does not work.
I unfortunately had dropped the phone days before, but no damage visible at all (phone case FTW).
Also it worked without problems, which makes me hope this is not hardware related.
WLAN works, so internet connectivity is possible.
Phone is out of warranty.
I did search for other threads with similar issues, but they all seem to be related to having flashed custom ROMs and then losing the IMEI.
Does somebody have any idea how I can fix this?
Thank you!
Edit: I just remembered/saw that I did do the "Xiaomi Service Framework" system app update to version 6.0.6-G yesterday night, maybe that caused the problem? Currently researching on how to roll that back. If somebody knows, please do tell.

Did you check Settings, SIM cards and Mobile networks, SIM 1 (if SIM is in Slot 1)
Do you have Turn on? If Turned Off, then do Turn On
If not, ie if it does not recognize the SIM card, then it looks like a hardware issue
Assuming, as you say, that SIM card is ok, correctly inserted, and that phone runs only the stock firmware - hence no root, no custom ROM, no custom Recovery (that user could possibly wipe partitions), etc
Maybe, some connection got loose and later disconnected completely
Thanks for you answer.
I am sure the SIM is inserted correctly and working. It's been in there probably for years now.
Don't know if you saw my update above about "Xiaomi Service Framework". Checking that right now. Maybe I should just do a factory reset.
What I have noticed now a couple of times is that the phone crashes and reboots, just now happened when I connect for USB debugging or before when trying to enter the SIM pin after a reboot, ...

What I have noticed now a couple of times is that the phone crashes and reboots, just now happened when I connect for USB debugging or before when trying to enter the SIM pin after a reboot, ...

But if the phone does not recognize the SIM card, it would not ask for the SIM pin

Agreed, therefore I am sure the SIM is recognized. The phone even shows my number and the SIM has the carrier name.

If the carrier name is recognized, then IMEI cannot be NULL
Very strange
Try to play with Preferred network type setting
Maybe something really got wrong with the updated Framework

Oh, I though the IMEI is device specific and should be there even without a SIM inserted.

AFAIK too - but without IMEI it could not attach to the network and therefore cannot show carrier name
Hence strange, and/or the contradictory descriptions/observations

Ohh, sry there is a misunderstanding.
The carrier name is only shown as the NAME of the SIM card (I guess it is stored on there or the phone has remembered it). But there is NO connection or carrier name shown in the top notification bar.

Yeah but you still have unknown IMEI - that's something that should have not happened
Anyway, go to Preferred Network Type and try with Prefer 4G, Prefer 3G or Prefer 2G - maybe, with the updated Framework, something went wrong with the bands support or so
If it wouldn't help, then I'm out of the ideas how to solve
So I did do a hard reset now, and it worked for a short time (IMEI is back), then it doesn't again, and ... just now again. It really is not stable.
Thx. I will post updates when I know more.
Unfortunately the phone keeps crashing and rebooting when using it. It just freezes and restarts, and sometimes it takes a long time to restart (seems like a crash loop).
Twice I also saw some graphic artifacts (bright magenta and green) on a small part of the screen.
I don't think this is just a mobile network connection problem anymore.
BTW: I have installed an older version of Xiaomi Service Framework (also the hard reset reverted it to a much older version), but that did not help.
Hey!!
I hope you doing great
Did you manage to solve the issue?
@Fawad Hussain
Unfortunately I could not solve it, so I am not able to use the device anymore.
Btw, as far as I can see there is no current smartphone without a notch/punch hole which is not gigantic (ASUS Rog Phone 6).

Same thing happened to me, I have managed to get it thanks to this guy in the video which I don't understand what he is saying but I just followed his steps, so if you are looking for a solution this video is.
But my device is not rooted and bootloader is locked, I tried ways but don't know how to root it or unlock bootloader properly
