Hi, I am new with my Samsung Galaxy Tab 7'' 3G+Wifi, with 2.3.3. What do you recommend to me: keep this one, Overcome, or Honeycomb alpha. Please, anyone knows what is the different between CDMA and GSM ROMs? Thanks!

welcome to the hood brother in tab ..
your 1st welcome will be . pls post any thread endup with "?" "Q" in the Q|A section and do not post anything in the DEV section only if you plan to create ROM , Kernel
Welcome aboard.
Also state what carrier you have.
GSM is ATT TMOUS
Sprint, Veriz , Boost are CDMA
I love the Overcome rom, works well for what I want.
Thanks for the answers. My carrier is Orange, from Spain, but I don't know if it helps. I would like to flash Overcome but I don't know how begin. I have experience with Nexus One and Hero, but this seems very different.
Overcome is pretty stable compared to honeycomb. Try it first!

GSM phones use sim cards, CDMA need to be activated on the network and can't be transferred to another carrier easily if at all.
Don't know much about the CDMA as Australia got rid of CDMA a few years ago now...
GSM tabs have a larger choice of roms and kernals to try while the CDMA brothers and sister seem fairly restricted in what they can flash. They, however seem to be ahead when it comes to flashing Honeycomb...
ATM Honeycomb is an Alpha buiild, VERY buggy and not really usable if you need your tab in real life, Gingerbread on the other hand has been fairly stable for a while now. Up to you what you want to put on but before you do, READ the instructions on using ODIN or Heimdall, there are guides here.
Check if you're bootloaders are locked here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888071 Before flashing
and make sure you take it slow, step by step and DON'T skip ahead when flashing.
Happy hunting for that perfect rom ( please don't ask what people think as Its really a personal choice and the threads have more than enough info for you to make a choice).
Cheers...
I have a Galaxy s GT-I9000m using the bell network. I been stuck with android 2.3.3 for over a year now.
I have been doing research and am finding it difficult to find a good source of information.
Mainly looking for the latest and most stable version of gingerbread. Also want to get rid of bloatware.
If someone can point me in the right direction I would be extremely grateful
Thanks in advance.

Welcome!~ Let me tell you it'll get frustrating at first, but if you have patience and are willing to put in some time to learn things you will no doubt be amazed at what you can do.
I had a similar issue a while back and I started a thread, which blew up with information, so I suggest you look through there as it has useful tips from some really great members about what you're looking for. I see you're looking to upgrade from 2.3.3. The latest in my thread is version 2.3.6 and that one is great. Try that out first and when you're ready I suggest moving onto Cyanogenmod 7.1 as it's based on the latest Gingerbread build 2.3.7
Good luck! Here's the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1375971
this thread is useful i reckon. good luck.

Thanks,
Does my phone have to be unlocked? It if so the only way to unlock that I've seen is to use another sim card.
No, your phone does not need to be unlocked.
I'm currently running the JW1 (2.3.6) ROM that was released at the end of January with the Bell phone and modem files.
See post #9 in the thread pk1025 linked to.
It discusses and visually displays how to take pieces of different ROMs and install them on a Bell GT-i9000m phone.
It talks about installing JVT, but the same thing applies if you wish to install JW1 or the JVU value pack version discussed here.
Thanks alot the process is making alot more sense.
What's the most current stable version of 2.3.6. and where do I get it from?
HI Guys,
I have purchased a Samsung Galaxy Note n7000 (unlocked version).
It is currently running Android OS: 2.3.6
Baseband: N7000XXLA4
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-N7000XXLA6-CL907341
[email protected]#2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XXLA6
Network currently being used: o2 UK.
Now I have tried to update the phone over Wifi to get the latest ICS update, with No luck =(...... I have downloaded and updated to the latest Kies Version and still No luck. Now I have scooted about on the internet and have found so many different articles as to when it will or might be realeased and apparently I should have access to the ICS update by now. THE QUESTION IS: Why cant I upgrade to ICS?????.... and if not, can somone Please be so kind to send me the links to the ROM instructions so I can get this little baby rocking and rolling with the Ice cream sandwitch goodness.
NOTE: I have Rooted and put a custom ROM on my Motorola XOOM tablet so I am not to affraid to get my hands dirty with ROM's. I could do with some instructions that would go through it again to remind me, I just need to find the right ROM so I do not brick it.
Many Thanks guys!!!

Look in the general section for the Cyanogen Mod 9 Discussion, download the latest build and follow the flashing instructions and you will end up with Android 4.0.4 ICS, its not official, its not touchwiz, but hey who needs that when there are great alternatives to everything samsung provide.
Just remember to read the instructions (more than once) and avoid flashing from any other ICS based rom.
Enjoy the ICS goodness.
and this is the reason people need to learn to do some research for themselves

How about calm down and jump off your high horse for one moment.
First, I HAVE done research!, the only reason I asked is due to how quickly things can change with Android ROMs.
Second, Is this how you treat new people instantly with ignorance?.
I thought the Xda developers forum Is a place for people to work together, NOT a place for Troll keyboard warriors......
BTW Thank to the other guy who actualy answered my question with a normal response!
Your welcome.
I do agree that you could have found this information out with some searching but hey, we all miss things sometimes so its no big issue to me. Also feel free to use the thanks button under my post to say thank you
have a good day.

I think at the end of the day its not a personal attack at you or anything but just people getting fed up with people not reading the sticked threads and looking before posting, its not just you alot of people do this sort of thing. And trust me the second ICS is downloadable there will be 1000+ threads in the general section saying so.
For info on what xda 'is' see this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16682226&postcount=2441

i see you took a general comment personally, thats not my issue, if you had done your research you would know that ics isnt available via an update
come on guys .. he is new .. he will take some time to get there. We all did
you already got the answer by now.. There is no Samsung official ICS for Note.
As for Custom, there are a lot of options in the Development section.
Follow the instructions to the line and not just follow them but understand them before you proceed.
I hear that CM9 is the best so far.. but i see more patches adding to it on a daily basis to improve it more and more.
As of me .. am on Stunner ICS.. lot of FC's for now .. but a good build.

No, you didn't do "research" - you logged in and typed a stupid question. It is people like you that make this forum almost impossible to find important info - lazy fools who think it is everyone else's job to read the posts and explain them. See my post count? It is not very high. You know why? Because I READ.
Your indignation falls on deaf ears.
Hi,
I have the same device but on Orange (UK).
I also am awaiting the android 4 (ICS) and i have spoken to both Samsung and my network. Their responses are varied, but it is generally the same as other news updates and that is "ICS will be scheduled for release during spring but some networks could be later due to their own testing regimes. The Galaxy s2 has just received the update, the note shouldnt be to far behind".
Another option is to goto facebook and search "samsung mobile uk" and watch the news there, as theyll post on that page once networks release it.
So contrary to popular belief, ics is coming, it does exist (a american AT&T handset in the usa has been spotted with the official build) but it isnt available for general release yet.
Thanks,

I717 aka AT&T Note is a completely different device from our Note, they just share the same name.
So, the fact that they already have ICS means nothing for us here.

Hi,
judging by the specifications on both devices (UK and USA), the differences are limited to storage and processor. the rest of them are just optional differences that make no real difference apart data bandwidths/frequencies etc.
The handsets look the same, work the same, 95% the same hardware wise.
The i7i7 has a Dual Core 1.5 scorpion chip set and the N700 has the dual core 1.4 ARM cortex a9. that is probably the most distinctive and most noticeable difference.
I know that the chipset determines alot of the efficiency and manner inwhich the phone reacts. but considering the chipsets vary between the Galaxy s2 and say, the HTC X one. Both chipsets vastly different, both running ICS, Both sides of the atlantic. I think that American Note running it, and us not yet due to sharing a name only is not the best reply. same as I am sure there are similar differences between the S2 for Asia, and the S2 for Europe and the USA. Yet I think they already have or are getting ICS too.
I hold out hope that we will receive the update soon enough. Once samsung sign it off for the device, it gets passed to the network operators who then in turn rigorously test the device with the new update before deciding to distribute or pursue changes.
It is happening, just wish it would hurry the hell up.
If you really want to see how vastly different they are, pop over to AT&T forum
and try to flash one of their Roms. Come back and tell us how it went.
Different processors equals completely different kernels and drivers. Tell me how
that doesn't equal to different phones, please.
Just saw this on tech news on my flipboard. Available for n7000 and i7i7 according to the news. Say what? *moonwalks out of the room*
Just need it to filter through now

ICS has been released for note finally....herehttp://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=GT-N7000&r=1#regiona
Good evening all,
My Christmas present to myself arrived a bit early. Its a used Galaxy Tab 1000!!
It is running the Froyo 2.2 and when it boots up at some point it displays "Orange". I put my own sim (not Orange) first it says you cannot use your sim card, then i went to settings and enabled voice and it seems to be working.
Ideally i would like to install MIUI onto my tab, as I was using MIUI on an my HTC Desire and I was very happy with it.
I looked through the forum and i read the newbie guides and after some stress i managed to root it using z4root. (First i try with the Superoneclick but it stuck on step 7)
Now i am trying to install the MIUI but in most guides i saw it says i must to have gingerbread, but i dont know how to get there, and i dont want to destroy my Tab. I was saving my money for many days to get it.
Can somebody help me to get to MIUI?
Thanks
The Tab is still a pretty useful device! It's a P-1000, not one of the other versions? In that case it's best to install Overcome. It's a great way to put GB on a Tab. Look for one of priyana's posts, he has links to instructions and the files you'll need.
I just saw one of priyana's posts. That link should be this thread.

Hi ableeker and thanks for responding. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. I have read so many posts these past few days and it gets a bit confusing. I will study the post you suggested carefully and i will ask any questions there...
To answer your question it is a GT-P1000 (it says so on the back) and i bought it used from Austria (ebay). It is Orange branded (indicated by Orange logo splashscreen at startup and shutdown).
In the about phone screen i get the following information:
Model Number: GT-P1000
Firmware Version: 2.2
Baseband Version: P1000BVJI3
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1
Build number: FROYO.BVJJ2
Ideally i would like to know whether the fact that this device is branded means that i have to use a different / adjusted process to install Overcome. But i will also ask this question in the post you pointed out to me.
Thanks once again for responding!
Hey guys Whats going on. Well Ive had my S5 for a while now. And When I first got it I remember you couldnt Root the phone and One reason was it would Change or mod something with the Kernel. And doing that you would break your warranty on the phone. It has been a while since I rooted and installed Roms, since the droid bionic. Thanks again
Sooo did some reading and now see there is a Root Hack to finally Root these ATT S5 Phones... Can someone Point me in the direction on how to do this correctly?
I have a Kernel Version: 3.4.0 Tues July 22 2014
Android Version 4.4.2
I also would like to Try some Custom Roms. How do you guys Install Custom Roms?
Does we need to install Safestrap? Or any recovery Mod like that?
What I would like to do is get more from my battery as a Full battery barely lasts me a Full day at work.
Thanks guys and cant wait to get some info and advice here. Always great getting Professional Advice than searching and finding 100 different answers.

Now for some friendly advice it would behoove you to learn to use the search function and search appropriate threads for the answers to your questions. Those questions have been asked myriad times by newcomers.
When one doesn't search then one opens doors to get flamed by members short on patience.
I know I've been ripped pretty bad when I first started.
