HI Guys,
I have purchased a Samsung Galaxy Note n7000 (unlocked version).
It is currently running Android OS: 2.3.6
Baseband: N7000XXLA4
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-N7000XXLA6-CL907341
[email protected]#2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XXLA6
Network currently being used: o2 UK.
Now I have tried to update the phone over Wifi to get the latest ICS update, with No luck =(...... I have downloaded and updated to the latest Kies Version and still No luck. Now I have scooted about on the internet and have found so many different articles as to when it will or might be realeased and apparently I should have access to the ICS update by now. THE QUESTION IS: Why cant I upgrade to ICS?????.... and if not, can somone Please be so kind to send me the links to the ROM instructions so I can get this little baby rocking and rolling with the Ice cream sandwitch goodness.
NOTE: I have Rooted and put a custom ROM on my Motorola XOOM tablet so I am not to affraid to get my hands dirty with ROM's. I could do with some instructions that would go through it again to remind me, I just need to find the right ROM so I do not brick it.
Many Thanks guys!!!

Look in the general section for the Cyanogen Mod 9 Discussion, download the latest build and follow the flashing instructions and you will end up with Android 4.0.4 ICS, its not official, its not touchwiz, but hey who needs that when there are great alternatives to everything samsung provide.
Just remember to read the instructions (more than once) and avoid flashing from any other ICS based rom.
Enjoy the ICS goodness.

How about calm down and jump off your high horse for one moment.
First, I HAVE done research!, the only reason I asked is due to how quickly things can change with Android ROMs.
Second, Is this how you treat new people instantly with ignorance?.
I thought the Xda developers forum Is a place for people to work together, NOT a place for Troll keyboard warriors......
BTW Thank to the other guy who actualy answered my question with a normal response!
Your welcome.
I do agree that you could have found this information out with some searching but hey, we all miss things sometimes so its no big issue to me. Also feel free to use the thanks button under my post to say thank you
have a good day.

I think at the end of the day its not a personal attack at you or anything but just people getting fed up with people not reading the sticked threads and looking before posting, its not just you alot of people do this sort of thing. And trust me the second ICS is downloadable there will be 1000+ threads in the general section saying so.
For info on what xda 'is' see this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16682226&postcount=2441

i see you took a general comment personally, thats not my issue, if you had done your research you would know that ics isnt available via an update
come on guys .. he is new .. he will take some time to get there. We all did
you already got the answer by now.. There is no Samsung official ICS for Note.
As for Custom, there are a lot of options in the Development section.
Follow the instructions to the line and not just follow them but understand them before you proceed.
I hear that CM9 is the best so far.. but i see more patches adding to it on a daily basis to improve it more and more.
As of me .. am on Stunner ICS.. lot of FC's for now .. but a good build.

No, you didn't do "research" - you logged in and typed a stupid question. It is people like you that make this forum almost impossible to find important info - lazy fools who think it is everyone else's job to read the posts and explain them. See my post count? It is not very high. You know why? Because I READ.
Your indignation falls on deaf ears.
Hi,
I have the same device but on Orange (UK).
I also am awaiting the android 4 (ICS) and i have spoken to both Samsung and my network. Their responses are varied, but it is generally the same as other news updates and that is "ICS will be scheduled for release during spring but some networks could be later due to their own testing regimes. The Galaxy s2 has just received the update, the note shouldnt be to far behind".
Another option is to goto facebook and search "samsung mobile uk" and watch the news there, as theyll post on that page once networks release it.
So contrary to popular belief, ics is coming, it does exist (a american AT&T handset in the usa has been spotted with the official build) but it isnt available for general release yet.
Thanks,

I717 aka AT&T Note is a completely different device from our Note, they just share the same name.
So, the fact that they already have ICS means nothing for us here.

Hi,
judging by the specifications on both devices (UK and USA), the differences are limited to storage and processor. the rest of them are just optional differences that make no real difference apart data bandwidths/frequencies etc.
The handsets look the same, work the same, 95% the same hardware wise.
The i7i7 has a Dual Core 1.5 scorpion chip set and the N700 has the dual core 1.4 ARM cortex a9. that is probably the most distinctive and most noticeable difference.
I know that the chipset determines alot of the efficiency and manner inwhich the phone reacts. but considering the chipsets vary between the Galaxy s2 and say, the HTC X one. Both chipsets vastly different, both running ICS, Both sides of the atlantic. I think that American Note running it, and us not yet due to sharing a name only is not the best reply. same as I am sure there are similar differences between the S2 for Asia, and the S2 for Europe and the USA. Yet I think they already have or are getting ICS too.
I hold out hope that we will receive the update soon enough. Once samsung sign it off for the device, it gets passed to the network operators who then in turn rigorously test the device with the new update before deciding to distribute or pursue changes.
It is happening, just wish it would hurry the hell up.
If you really want to see how vastly different they are, pop over to AT&T forum
and try to flash one of their Roms. Come back and tell us how it went.
Different processors equals completely different kernels and drivers. Tell me how
that doesn't equal to different phones, please.
Just saw this on tech news on my flipboard. Available for n7000 and i7i7 according to the news. Say what? *moonwalks out of the room*
Just need it to filter through now

Hi all,
I've had a GT-I9000 for over 6 months now and I haven't really tried too much stuff on it except for an official firmware update and OCLF, and as an XDA member this is my first post.
I'm currently running Froyo 2.2 (I9000DDJP2, kernel 2.6.32.9), everything was fine until my phone started to lag like hell and lots of force closes and reboots which is really pissing me off now. I was planning to wait for the official gingerbread update, however I think XDA already has tons of Gingerbread ROMS out there ready to be flashed. Also, I saw a few videos of I9000 running cyanogenmod which looked awesome. So i decided to give it a shot.
I'm a total noob at flashing, and to be honest, this will be my first time trying it out. Can you please suggest which is the best gingerbread ROM out there for I9000 and can it be flashed using ROM manager or do i need to follow the ODIN method.
Also, one very very dumb question , what is the difference between a ROM and a kernel, and is it required to flash both of them separately, if yes then which one should go first.

You need to read everything, especially if you don't know the difference between a kernel and a rom. You are no where near flashing, I'm saying this so you don't brick your phone.
Go to general thread and read through the stickies as these will lead you in the right direction. Once you have understood all of them, then proceed to flash.
Cyanogen is not for beginners so stay away.
Gingerbread roms that are supposed to be good are Juwes, Insanity, Simply Honey and Doc's. There are many GB roms but these seem to be the most popular.
Read everything until you know everything for sure and then go and flash
Good luck

Thanks for your reply... I'll start off with the reading i suppose, coz obviously i dont wanna brick my device... I've read that Insanity can be flashed directly using ROM Manager... Is this true?? If yes then can I try that one first, coz it seemed to be an easy enough method to flash a custom rom...
You also have to understand that Gingerbread is in effect Beta not released and devs still working on it in XDA . If you are capable of unbricking your phone dont mind breaking it then carry on otherwise wait for official release update through official method backup the firmware then customize as you want .

Sorry, only the 1000th such thread will win our grand prize, a year's supply of DataAde, the cool, refreshing brick in a can.
However as a consolation prize, you receive the home version of our game as well as the same answer the 385 previous contestants received...."All are good but it is a very subjective thing, try them all and see which one suits you best."
Thanks for playing our game, and happy Androiding.

Obviously based on your response there are hundreds of threads about this topic. Why not offer up at least one that we can check out? Hi, Thanks if your reading this and answering me i really can understand what to do so ill just ask so many stupid question and see if you know some of them. so First how do i know if i have a GSM / CDMA?. Next if i got either the two one what is the best way to optimize my Tab. in a certain way that i can root/flash/rom/hack or etc. and my main concern is that if i was to return all it back like a factory restore can it be done?.
So in anyway possible help me i bought my SGT in Philippines and we get like a Open Line SGT i can use all our Telcom providers and use Different Sim Cards so i really can't tell what to do first.

You have the GSM Tab, I'm sure. CDMA is NOT very common in the Philippines, and you have a sim card slot, CDMA doesn't have this.
Also, unless your Tab was illegally imported from somewhere, you have the international version.

I recommend you try out your stock ROM first, and read heavily on these forums. Know your Tab, current firmware, etc..
Once you've decided to play around your tab's ROM, then follow these guidelines. NOTE: It is possible that you will end up with a very expensive paperweight (brick) if you make a mistake somewhere along the way. Tread carefully.
First, enter *#1234# in your phone dialer to get your Tab's firmware.
2nd: backup your data (in Kies) and apps (in Titanium Backup)
3rd: Root your device using SuperOneClick (this voids your warranty)
SuperOneClick with instructions can be found here --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
4th: Verify that your "bootloader" is not locked. Last few releases by Samsung locked the bootloader so flashing the firmware may damage or brick your Tab.
You can use Bootloader patch to check. It's here --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888071&highlight=*#1234#
Again, read carefully and follow the directions..
5th: Finally, one of the best ROMs out there is Overcome. You will find all you need here. --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932082
I suggest you print out the included instructions (in pdf). You will also find all the links to files that you need in this thread.
I cannot stress further the gravity of your decisions... .. Follow the steps carefully and faithfully..
6th: If something goes wrong (I hope not), please don't blame me.
Best of luck!
P.S.

Thanks for the warning i kinda know Bricking and doing this to Galaxy Tab is Voiding your Warranty but i was so stupid i cant tell if i am using GSM but now for what you told me GSM is a Tab that use Sim and for using my Tab now its kinda great but i wanna maximize my Tab so i can do different things and for now ill just read and read but still going to wait for more things and before i do this i am going to enjoy my Tab. Already Sold my iPad and i kinda want to know if SGT 7" is already good or ill be buying the new SGT 8.9 and 10.1 so for now thank you very much and already reading some files but wish some Filipino already tried this but i think ill do just fine i can understand some part but still need to read first and will ask again if need help. BTW are you a Filipino or ???
I'm a Filipino too.
Voiding your warranty should be no problem since you can unroot your phone back. Moreover, I'm pretty sure that you got the GSM one since as Sef pointed out, it's pretty rare for us to use a CDMA device (partly thanks to our backwards and slow internet back home).
Moreover, to optimize your device, just try the ROMs out. You should read the guides how to flash them, of course, whether you wanna use Heimdall or Odin.
Pinoy ako! Hehehe.. (Im Filipino too! LOL)
I feel the same way now about flashing.. I am confident in doing it but am still doing heavy research. Take note that some roms do not have all the features of the stock rom, and they have bugs too.
Maybe in a month or so, I`ll flash this tab and then update this thread.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
Okay Thanks ill be doing it too in a few weeks or months just need to double check some details and if i make it success full ill make a guide how i did mine. wish someone in phil can make a video or guide . i keep hearing that using mod ROMs rocks. but still lets see what happen.
hi bro. im also in the phils. ive got my tab from smart for two months, and i'd say im quite satisfied with the stock rom. with all the posts i read from various threads regarding problems in installing custom roms (the latest, also here, regarding overcome sucking the tab's batt), im not fully convinced to try it. my two cents: why fix something that is not broken?
ive had my sonyericsson xperia x8 also for quite sometime now, and flashing it is much less complicated than doing it in the tab. i simply cant risk bricking my tab!
also,a wk ago i had my tab repaired in samsung head office because of dim display. they replaced the lcd even if my tab is already rooted. so rooting i think doesnt make you lose your warranty! they even upgraded my firmware. love the new date, time and weather widgets.
i will just wait for the gingerbread upgrade this may!

I got disappointed when I heard the Wifi (P1010) model was different in the inside, so it has been a pain in the ass to find something that works with this model.
All custom ROMs for Galaxy Tabs are only for the 3G ones, so it will be nice to see a custom ROM for WiFi only tabs, specially a Gingerbread or Honeycomb one. Even a Froyo rom would be nice.
Any volunteer who wants to make one for us? I will really appreciate your help!

Yes I saw that and if I am not wrong, that firmware is not custom, is 2.2.1 and is the same I have on my tab.
I have a Galaxy s GT-I9000m using the bell network. I been stuck with android 2.3.3 for over a year now.
I have been doing research and am finding it difficult to find a good source of information.
Mainly looking for the latest and most stable version of gingerbread. Also want to get rid of bloatware.
If someone can point me in the right direction I would be extremely grateful
Thanks in advance.

Welcome!~ Let me tell you it'll get frustrating at first, but if you have patience and are willing to put in some time to learn things you will no doubt be amazed at what you can do.
I had a similar issue a while back and I started a thread, which blew up with information, so I suggest you look through there as it has useful tips from some really great members about what you're looking for. I see you're looking to upgrade from 2.3.3. The latest in my thread is version 2.3.6 and that one is great. Try that out first and when you're ready I suggest moving onto Cyanogenmod 7.1 as it's based on the latest Gingerbread build 2.3.7
Good luck! Here's the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1375971
this thread is useful i reckon. good luck.

Thanks,
Does my phone have to be unlocked? It if so the only way to unlock that I've seen is to use another sim card.
No, your phone does not need to be unlocked.
I'm currently running the JW1 (2.3.6) ROM that was released at the end of January with the Bell phone and modem files.
See post #9 in the thread pk1025 linked to.
It discusses and visually displays how to take pieces of different ROMs and install them on a Bell GT-i9000m phone.
It talks about installing JVT, but the same thing applies if you wish to install JW1 or the JVU value pack version discussed here.
Thanks alot the process is making alot more sense.
What's the most current stable version of 2.3.6. and where do I get it from?
Hello!
Let me just say I have been long overdue with registering here. I have been looking for help threads here for about 6 months on my Galaxy S3 phone and other questions. Awesome forum and really loving it.
And also, if this question is somehow "overdone" (I can see it being a question at a regular basis) OR posted in the wrong forum. Then sorry! I am however very thankful for a reply to it, and if this thread needs to be moved then go ahead. (And if it needs to be taken down, I would be very thankful for a reply)
I installed a custom rom on my Samsung Galaxy S3 i9305N a while back. First I used clockworkmod to fix a loader, rooted and all that stuff. Then I installed the only Cyanogenmod I could find. (It wasn't an officially supported one at the time, I have no idea how that rom is doing now however)
I then reformatted everything to the original loader and rom. It looks mostly the same as it did before, but with some new features.
However, I need to send the phone to repair. The battery is defect and the charger seems to drain its battery.
A phone support guy that I know, told me that it is possible to see a "history" on all the roms and roots and etc, that has been done to the phone. In order to make sure that nobody reloads the warranty Rom and sends it off to repair. Is this true?
If so, how can I fix this? Is there any way to just reboot the phones so called history? Or did he just tell me this to scare me off?
Is there any way I can test my Samsung if it is eligable for warranty, without sending it off to their repair? (And do they check all phones for custom roms?)
Thanks for any help! Sorry for the LONG thread.
I am not that good with computers and programming. Could be worth mentionning! I managed to load the rom through tutorials, that's it. =P

Thank you very very much!
In fact, thanks to all good replies. The triangle thing was what I was looking for! I am a total rookie but I feel as though I learned quite a lot. Perhaps I should root my new phone now. "Haha".
No but, I actually got one question.
How do I know if it really is my official rom? I read somewhere, that every telephone-operator has their own Rom. So just picking one of the Roms might not work?
How do I know if the source is correct? I'm a bit concerned that I might format the phone, send it in, and they notice that I flashed with the wrong Stock Rom.
I have a Galaxy S3 i9305N with the operator Tele2 in Sweden. Sammobile.com has 3 stock Roms available (One only for members though) Which one is correct? Or does it not matter?
Thanks for any help again.
Many apologies if I am a bad googler. This is one of my first issues I have never been able to Google my way out of ;P
EDIT:
GT-I9305N Sweden 2013 March I9305NXXBMC2 I9305NCOVBMC2
GT-I9305N Nordic countries 2013 January 4.1.2 I9305NXXBMA2 I9305NNEEBMA2
GT-I9305N Sweden 2012 September 4.1.1 I9305NXXALIA I9305NCOVALI7
Those three are my result. How do I know which one I should go with?
EDIT2:
I was looking around a bit. I think the right one would be 2013 March (Top) right? Thing is, I find another one through a Swedish forum with a thread just like this one.. and it puzzles me what to pick. Does it matter at all? I used the one from the Swedish thread a while back, and I noticed it differed a bit from the Rom I had on the phone from purchase... Is it best to go with one from Sammobile? (And if so, which one.. )
Okay my friend! I checked it out...
On http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9305N are only 3 firmwares for the I9305N
BMC2 is for Sweden and 4.2.1
BMA2 is for Finland and also 4.2.1 but
ALIA is for Sweden an 4.1.1!
Now is the question with which firmware your phone was coming?
I guess, my friend, I don't know the answer... you could try each firmware...
I'm sorry, I really don't know!

From what provider did you buy the phone (after you know that search the internet for the firmwares it provides to your phone). You only need to search a bit then you will find the rom you need. Gl.
