[Q] Truly Bricked? - TouchPad Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I'm asking a question for a buddy of mine,. His HP Touchpad will not turn on, we've tried charging it and making sure it wasn't something dumb. There is no way, that i know of, to revive this Touchpad. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I would try the home + power reboot. Then if that does nothing then I would put it on a different charger and see if that does anything. Then if none of that works, call HP and see if it is still under warranty, and if they would send you a replacement. And you could try hooking it up to your computer and see if anything happens. The HP touchpad is almost unbrickable.
Good luck!

Also try twisting the charger to make sure its tight. I know lots of people have had issues because the charger isn't snapped tightly to the plug!

I have also heard about people whos usb port is broken - if you know anyone with a touchstone, try charging it this way and probably then the tp starts.
I had the same issues (black screen, wont start) because the TP wont charge although I plugged it in correctly. The way I fixed it was waiting one day and then using a different charger to load the TP. Once plugged in it showed the charger symbol and one day later it was useable again. BTW: my HP charger was/is NOT broken.
Best

Thank you guys. My friend actually has tried all of these. He did call HP and they are going to take it back after he acted "stupid". Thanks again.

[Q]

Hello,
I got an issue, that i can't solve, and i wanted to know if anybody here got it, and in case there's a solution for that.
whenever i plug my LG2X running CM7 RC2 to my car charger, after few minutes the headset icon appears, and the device "thinks" that a headset was connected to it, therefore I can't hear GPS instructions etc'
when using the home charger, there are no problems
I'm running Cyanogen 7.1
Any ideas or solutions?
Thanks
Guy
I would try changing the brand of the charger if it's not an LG and do tests with other's car chargers. I assume it doesn't happens with the regular charger.
Just a thought. I had a Captivate do the same thing, & it turned out to be crud in the cable end. Try compressed air in the cable end & charging port on your phone. If not, ditch the charger/cable before it fries the phone.
Hope it helps!

Thank you both,
I have tried switching charger. That was actually the first thing i did before posting this.
however, it does not help. The problem is general to car charging.
It is not related to my car, as i had the same issue with other cars, and other chargers.
this seems to be a software problem.
Guy
perhaps an app like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dwalkes.android.toggleheadset2 might help?
One thing's for sure; you're getting stray resistance in the charge port. Id still remove battery & find a non-metallic object to "gently" clean the contacts where the charger plugs in.
I accidentally got crud in my cord, but didn't realize it till the phone started going into download mode using this certain one. It was cool till it fried the phone ...

if warranty = true
then goto return_device
Thanks,
Tried it, didn't work, same problem.

In WEBOS it will only charge with an original charger just so uou know..... in Android you can charge with most anything but anything less than 2amps and 5.5 volts is just gonna trickle charge
As far as the Android install it probably just needs an update and clean boot but if you took the time to tead you would find that WEBOS DOCTOR is used to wipe android off the Touchpad

So is the battery dead or are you able to turn it on? The TouchPad needs a certain amount of poswer to charge the device. Thats why the TouchPads original charger has such a big adapter. You chould probably get a slight charge with other chargers but it will take a long time to charge.
As far as android being buggy, I would suggest the same as cdzo72 and just reinstall it. And also like he said, the webOS Doctor will get rid of android. There are also apps in preware, I believe, that remove all traces of android after you uninstall it.

the battery is dead and it wont turn on im trying with orignal hp touchpad charger but there is no power...what to do next ? like its completely black there is no power at all not even a battery sign of charging or anything like that
I'm having the same problem as stated. My battery completely drained. When tried pluggin in it gave me the message "plug in original charger" which I have except for the cable. On the home button I had no chargin light. After a couple of hours I tried turning it on pressing power+home and I got the red battery, then immediately the plug in symbol, then the "plug original charger" message.
Then I decided to plug it to my laptop. The home charging light finally came on stating that it was charging. It's been a couple of hours and I was able to plug it back to the original charger on the wall and the home light continues to show that it is charging. Unfortunately, I've tried to turn it on and I still get the message. I'm going to let it sit for a while to see if it's just not charging fast enough to even power up. I am running CM9. Not planning on going back to WebOS anytime soon. If I get it working, I will let you know.
Oh, if you have the original wall adapter, you can unscrew the actual plug off the adapter by turning it counter clockwise. Then screw it back on. Supposedly that will fix something with the actual wall plug. I don't know if that's what caused mine to actually work again.
If you regularly charge it with a Touchstone charging stand, take it off, and plug it in through the outlet and the cable that came with it, and be sure to try charging in WebOS instead of Android.

(Q) I need some help please

So my cousin gave me his HP TouchPad to fix because it didnt boot up, he had gotten it from someone and it worked for a while as he stated but than it died and now it woulndt turn on. It's a 16bg i believe and i have searched the forums so i did try a few tricks. When i hold the power button it gives me the low battery and right after it, the white connect to power logo. It shuts off afterwards. When i connected to the computer straight away, it gives the low battery and says to charge reliably use the original cables and so fort, then it shuts off. Anyone can help me with this please?
Thank You
did you try to charge it with the original charger?
Bad charging cables are known to cause this problem.
Well I have the USB cable it came with but not the wall charger. Tried cables from my galaxy s 4g, blackberry and few other cables that fit it. Nothing. Tried apple wall charger and Samsung wall charger still nothing. U know where I can buy the originals for it?

You need that hp charger or one that puts outt the same juice 5.3v=2.0A it wont charge on the computers usb port.
It will charge with a 1 amp charger(iPhone;htc wall usb) albeit slowly.
Definately test another cable, find the highest rated USB charger you can, ????, profit!
Well thanks for the replies. I just got home from work and it was connected to the usb port all day, now i took my iphone chargers end and connected it into the power strip and connected the usb. Any idea where i can find the originals or ones that work for this touchpad. When ever power connects to it, low battery comes up showing little bit left with red and it says connect originals if u want the most reliable charging..

Asus Memopad (me176cx) dead?

The tablet is dead, it was suddenly. Won't charge or turn on and it's not recognised by the PC. Recovery mode (power button + volume-) doesn't work either.
I know that is not the screen, because the PC doesn't detect the tablet at all. I tried with another battery (my wife has the same tablet), but I had no luck. I also know that the charger and the usb cable are fine.
What else I can do, any ideas or suggestions?

I had the same symptoms after disconnecting and reconnecting battery,I hed to disconnect it for like an hour and then three times try to power on the tablet and it did power on. Maybe your battery is dead so after another hour you may try to use the other battery. If it will work, try to connect the batteries together so the dead one can get a little charge (but do some research I am not sure if it won't have a chance to damage anything) then the same after an hour connect try power on and if it powers on immediately give it a charge.

Just wondered if you had tried this and if so, how you got on? Asking because I bought my daughter one off ebay and it was working fine when I got it, am sure I recharged it once , she played it and then again in morning and thinks she played it till battery ran out. I have since tried charging via pc and mains power, and have disconnected battery twice (case was v. easy to remove so concerned this fault may be reason it was sold), but cannot get a flicker of a response on screen. i got my daughter this as she was desperate for an android tablet for mods for minecraft as I had bought her a Amazon Fire 7 and from what I could see just after xmas, it wasnt possible to root it or sideload at that time, and she said Amazon had no mods compared to the play store and she had been ecstatic with the mods she had found for her android for the short time she had it. I do know when I plug it into the wall charger that the motherboard area gets warm if its been plugged in for a while? Bit of a noob on this stuff, and off sick with probs with my nervous system so my concentration and memory can be a pia. Anyway I was wondering how I can find out if its goosed or what I can try? One of the batterys advertised on ebay is about £50 which seems steep to me, esp. if it doesnt fix it, and esp since I have been unable to work for a few years cos of this illness. I only bought the tablets cos I had extra money after I finally applied and got pip, and got it backdated. Any recommendations for a reasonably priced option for her for her minecraft? Should I go the tablet\notebook type route or can they not handle minecraft? Bit confused by these new notebooks esp touchscreen ones as new ones seem to have small amounts of ram yet are v. popular.
Thanks for advice\thoughts\feedback and let me know if I should start ,y own thread...I only jumped on this to see how he got on and then as I do nowadays with this illness, I then jumped from topic to topic that jumped into my head x sorry x

Firt I would try to trickle charge the battery.
BEFORE YOU DO THIS:
Remove the SD CARD. I forgot to do this and snapped my card straight in half removing the back cover.
This started happening to my ME176 as well but of course not until after I retired it and gave it to my mom.
I would start by letting it sit on the charger for about 30 minutes (since we don't know the current charge state and if the overcharge block is functioning). This will give it a slight charge if dead.
Disconnect charger and remove the back cover and disconnect the battery (as posted earlier). Push and hold the power button a few times even though there is no power.
It may take a few tries of disconnecting and reconnecting the battery before it decides to power up, so keep the cover off while doing this.

How likely will this CATCH FIRE???

Hi Guys,
I have owned an HP Touchpad for around 7 years, and totally loved it. Sadly I've not used it in about 6x months to a year solid. Now it wont turn on at all, Ive tried charging via the official wall charger, via a mobile charger, via PC USB (trickle charge) and tried all the various key combo's, nothing, totally dead. This happened once before, and took some effort to get back to life, but it did and was fine for many months after.
I asked my mate, and he said just throw it away... If I've let it drain beyond the safety level, then there is a chance it could go BANG... I've read various other threads/forums, other than here also.... and although some have attempted to revive the battery. Lots warned about doing it outside, as there is a risk it could go bang and catch fire!!!!
So, whats the verdict guy?? Have any of you had a Touchpad that is beyond booting, no display on the screen at all, no symbols and even the Home button isn't even lighting up or flashing. There is no life in it what so ever...
Dangerously, before reading more about it... I had left the Touchpad on original charger for best part of a week, about 4 or 5 days continually charging. The wall charger not even warm, yet if I use it on my Android phones, it works just fine.
I've left it on PC USB charge for over day, and still nowt....
Sounds like its dead, anyone else got lucky from this point? Would charging it any further risk of blowing, or are their surge protection in the Touchpads design to prevent this???
Are their any other Android Tablets that allow dual booting of say Linux as well as Android....?
Cheers, Lister
There has been success when TP owners have connected the TP to a low power phone charger and left it going overnight/all day. This 'gently' charges the system sneaking past any system blocks and allows the thing to charge to be able to boot. Once booted stick the proper charger on it.
Hi MikeN68,
Thanks for replying back, much appreciated... Do you have a TP too?? Has this happened to you...?
It happened to me about a year ago, but I was able to boot the thing back into life after a long charge. But all the time it wasnt booting back then, I still had a flashing light on the Home button. However this time I get no light on the button at all or any symbols on the screen.
Ive had the TP on the original charger since Sat / Sun through to like Wednesday... and nowt!!! Then I've had it on a low charger for a few hours, and on a PC USB socket for a couple of days... and tried a couple of USB cables and nowt there!!!
May give it the low volt phone charger again, and hope.... Really hoping I can make it live again, as looking for a replacement cheap Tablet that can support many roms and there really isn't anything else out there...
Thanks again...

Hmm. OK, have a look over at the webosnations forum I've included the URL but not sure if that will get deleted or not, so "revived-touchpad-my-story-full-instructions" is the title of the post in the Touchpad forum.
http://forums.webosnation.com/hp-touchpad/324000-revived-touchpad-my-story-full-instructions.html
Good luck and no, I've been fortunate enough that my TP's have behaved themselves.

I've never heard of a TouchPad battery blowing up. However, as with any Lithium Ion battery, there is always the risk. I've read of folks leaving their TP plugged in for months before it finally started charging again. As you can see by the other posts, their are as many ideas as there are people to post them. One never knows which will be the magic trick. But unless you can get some life back into it, none of the suggested tricks will work. Good luck,
NT
