I've noticed recently, either after the 902 update or very shortly after, my vibrate function stopped on goSMS and Trillian. Then come to think of it nothing was vibrating anymore. I finally screwed around more today and found the settings in sound for vibrate was now set to Never. I've always had it on Always. Odd...turned it back to always...still no vibrate. :-(
Rebooted. Nothing. Powered off and pulled battery. Waited three minutes to be damn sure volatile memory is wiped. Put battery back in and rebooted. Nope. Still won't vibrate for anything. :-( its gotta be software. It was working fine for forever.
Rooted with nothing removed, modified, or frozen. In the immortal words of LOLcats worldwide, HALP! I use silent and only vibrate for almost everything. I hate audible alerts. So this is killing me cause I'm missing so many messages. Any help or opinions would be appreciated.

Go to the messaging app, go to its own settings. There is a vibrate setting for messages itself. Happened to me too after updating. Its annoying to have to select it in so many places but ih well.

Did that. It was still enabled. Disabled and then re-enabled there repeatedly. No change.
Fixed the problem. Installed Safe strap then installed Axiom ICS ROM. Now the vibrate works. A bit extreme of a solutions. But I'm happy with the outcome

Has anyone else heard of this problem? Sometimes when I receive a text message the phone will receive the message and start vibrating, at which point the screen goes black and all buttons become unresponsive. The phone will continue to vibrate for about ten seconds before rebooting. It doesn't do it every time, and it only does it for text messages, and only when the phone is set to vibrate upon receiving a text message.
I'm running GingerVolt 1.3 and had the same issue on 1.2 and 1.1. I am not sure if it did the same thing on the stock rom. I have wiped data/factory reset and that does not seem to fix it. I am also using Handcent SMS, if that could have anything to do with it.
Any information about this is greatly appreciated!
I have had it happen once that was on gingervolt 1.2 also on vibrate mode and also using handcent.

Never had it happen on Revolt or Gingervolt. Using the stock messaging app.

I've had it happen a couple times recently. Once yesterday and once this morning. Both times I was in Vibrate Only mode. I was not receiving texts at the time, but it could have been triggered by email alerts or phone calls. I noticed the phone buzzing for ten seconds, the screen was unresposive and the LED indicator was blue. Then it showed the LG screen with a small buzz and loads up fine.
I had it happen when using Exchange once - The phone was hot to begin with, so I knew something was wrong. I received the Exchange e-mail notification, pulled down the notification bar, clicked and bam - reboot.
I'm glad to hear it's not just me. This has been happening since I got my Revo, on both my original and warranty replacement.
I've never used stock long enough to know if it occurred on any of them.
But for me the phone doesn't reboot after 10 seconds, it just keeps vibrating like a prank sex toy from hell until I remove the battery.

Same here. I'm not even sure if I'm in vibrate mode only or not, but it does freak me out a bit when it happens and have to peel off the case to get to the battery, I'm always afraid its going to go all Mission Impossible on me and blow up!
See if the same behavior is observed when vibrate is turned off. There could be an issue with your haptic engine causing it to crash and this would help narrow it down.
Only happens on vibration for me, also. But I have it on vibrate ~90% of the time so I don't know if this qualifies as proof to that fact

It has never happened to me when the phone was set to not vibrate. I did a test and set it to not vibrate only when I received a text. It seemed to have no problems until I got an email yesterday and bam. Reboot.

I am running GV 1.3, and CPU Master Free clocked 1.5/500mhz.
Had 1.2 before 1.3 and it ran OK, occasional bugs but nothing crazy for a custom ROM. Flashed 1.3 and did a complete data wipe along with it. No errors. Installed recovery from the APK, used easy installer also with no issues.
Phone will randomly vibrate (incoming emails for exchange and gmail are set to vibrate) until it reboots. This is a rare issue and one I can live with...
...but what is getting very odd and possibly costly is what it does at night. I have woken up, for the last 3 nights consecutively, to the phone booted into recovery. My job requires me to be able to answer the phone at just about any hour (yay for tech support) so I am just wondering if anybody else is running into a similar problem.
Thanks guys.
You could try downclocking to like 1300mhz and see if that changes anything.
The only way I can make this phone reboot is through resource intensive processes like Netflix, or tethering multiple devices on Wi-fi Tether, never remember a reboot happening out of the blue...
Thanks for the response. How are you enjoying the warm weather? I am over on the west side of the state and we are enjoying the nice, if cold, reprieve from rain.
I do not get the impression it's from use. In fact I would argue that it is either occurring when I get an email, or is simply random, as it only happens when the phone is not being used. I.E. sitting beside me on the desk or on my nightstand when i'm asleep.

Vibrating, our phone loves the vibrate... so much so that it reboots itself from it... if at all possible don't put it on vibrate and it shouldn't happen or so the rumor goes...

It's been hovering around 30 + or - so not something I would call warm! But it's been pretty dry and sunny, so that's good at least.
There have been reports of that vibrate=reboot before as S.Meezy explained, but as to why or how to fix it is anyone's guess unfortunately
I am unable to run @ 1.5ghz, my temp will go up to 105 and then reboot (sometimes as high as 107). It doesn't do it as often at 1.2 but it never reboots into recovery.
I've never experienced the vibrate=reboot problem and I leave it on vibrate all the time... Weird.

the best is when it gets stuck on vibrating for a minute or two then reboots. I blame LG, it seems that when the screen is off it doesn't like to wake up for calls quickly (sometimes it vibrates two or three times before the screen even cones on for me at least) or even pushing the power button and the ~1 second lag before you can use the touch screen as seen on the stock android lockscreen mod. I think they force the CPU to slow down to try and force sleep/idle and not allow processes to destroy the battery to drain while screen off, but what do I know...

All versions of Gvolt caused this random "vibraboot" but only when my phone was on silent.
Happened a few times on incoming calls and almost every time I received a notification from gtalk. It became such a problem I migrated away from gtalk almost completely.
A couple of complete wipes/reflashes(1.3), blitz (1500/346)and the newest v6 and I'm STILL nervous about vibraboot. Thankfully it hasn't come up again, but I still avoid gtalk...

Here's my theory, are you using cpu master with the power save feature? I had the same issues with setcpu running power save. And as soon as I switched to conservative mode the resets stopped.

No setcpu, blitzkrieg, or anything of the sort. Gingervolt 1.3 and ick theme. It comes in spurts, won't happen for a while then it'll do it three times in a day then all is silent for some time again...

Thanks for all of the comments.
I will turn off vibrate for emails and see what happens thanks for the comments.
I am thinking that it could also have something to do with the CPU settings.
I guess I will play around with it a bit and see what is up.

Don't get me wrong, my phone reboots at least once every other day. Been doing it since the day I got it (even before root).
Maybe I'm misunderstanding? The phone does vibrate before rebooting, but it does the same thing when I reboot/power-off manually. Or are you saying it continuously vibrates then reboots?
I have to leave my phone on vibrate while at home (my wife finds my notification ring tones to be annoying ) I have emails, txts, and calls come through and have never had this problem...
I've been finding that my phone reboots from overheating a lot. I've recently set setcpu to underclock once it hits 102 degrees, been running that for a few days now, so far no reboots (crossing fingers).

My phone vibrate reboots quite often. It never happened before the gb update. No freezes ever while on froyo. When first updated to gb it used to just freeze the touch screen and became unresponsive when screen was on but a simple power button to turn screen off and on would fix it. Now on newer versions of gingervolt it usually just vibrates continously and reboots. It's really annoying and I haven't found any certain cause of it even tho I pay close attention to it. Wish someone could fix this issue.

Had no problems last night as far as resetting goes. First time for that in a couple days. Also no random resets throughout the day. I feel pretty safe saying it was indeed vibrate causing the issues.
Thanks for the help by everyone
I have no rebooting issues. I also do not use vibrate.

This is apparently a common enough thing from what I've seen on line, but every solution I find involves the person having used a profile switcher or their calender to signify being unavailable. I do not use either type of program. I almost never silence my phone. (in the movie theater or similar, yes, but otherwise never) Does anyone have any idea what it could be? It;s only been happening since the OTA update to .217 ICS. It's getting thoroughly aggravating missing calls and texts, as I'm sure you can imagine... Thank you to anyone with ideas/suggestions.
Check your settings in both the system settings as well as each individual app. I think after the update the messaging app is set to silent by default, or at least the vibrate is turned off.
If the system is messed up I recommend that everyone install the ota factory reset. Clearing out your old GB data and letting the ICS run "fresh" solves a lot of problems.

Could it be a Smart Actions setting?
Settings are all fine yet it does randomly put itself on silent mode no vibration and you have to turn it back to vibration via settings volume rocker just puts it back on silent....

If it keeps happening tomorrow, I will do a full factory reset. Hoping I won't have to though. It's a pain in the rear to restore everything... It isn't a smart action thing because I have that app frozen, good thought though. Thank you all for the responses.
I tried a fr from recovery menu never froze apps nor rooted this d4 didn't help...

Update
I've found that it is only doing it with phone calls now. I cannot find a setting in the phone app or the system settings that is set to mute, but it keeps happening. Also, after using the lock screen to unmute it, I have to turn up the volume manually. The lock screen thing only bumps it up to the minimum volume level... Anything else come to mind before i do a full FR? I'd really rather avoid it if I can... Thanks again.
Now I've got one worse. Did a FR, no go. Tried to update to Eclipse, and messed it up. Had to .sbf back to factory. EVEN AFTER the .sbf, still having the same issue with it muting while recieving a call.... (i.e. goes on vibrate instead of ringing....) Any ideas ANYONE???!!?!?!?
Honestly, this sounds like a hardware issue to me. If I understand correctly, it sounds like the phone keeps going to silent (or vibrate after ICS)?
My guess after all your software troubleshooting is that your volume down key is either physically or electronically damaged, and periodically decreases itself. You might want to try remapping the volume button or something to see if that solves the problem. Of course, after that you don't have any volume buttons, which stink.
Aside, the physical buttons (power, volume) on the D4 really stink. They are very mushy and almost flush with the case, poor design if you ask me.
That thought crossed my mind also, but it only happens on an incoming call, and I can adjust the volume up and down in every app. If I don't receive a call all day, there is no problem, texts & emails work fine. I've even had a friend sit with me and text me (sound worked) then call me (muted as it received the call) and all it did was vibrate, no ringtone. I have who is it and thought it might be that, but un-installed it and no change... I'm totally out of ideas...
Thank you for the ideas, unfortunately nothing has worked so far. Any further ideas will be much appreciated. Thanks again.
Finally figured it out. Apparently it had to do with some stetting that Who Is It made. I had it set to announce the caller, which apparently doesn't work now. When I un-installed who is it nothing changed, so I re-installed it and on a whim disabled the announce feature, and it's been ringing fine since. I believe it was some sort of setting because after disabling the announcement, I un-installed who is it again, and the phone would ring without a problem. No Idea what setting it was. Thanks to veryone for the help.
Hello,
The other day I took my ONE hiking in the mountains. About 2 miles in my phone started going off. I took it out if my pocket and realized it was the same ringing that happened with my droid DNA. That I caught in a video
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UJm9hzdwOBY&desktop_uri=/watch?v=UJm9hzdwOBY
So I followed my advice and power cycle my device. It fixed it only temporarily. As an hour later it returned. Curiously I was using google my tracks both times. When it was happening the device did not feel overly warm of anything. In fact it was a cool 55-58 degrees out @ 10k ft. My question is died anyone know what causes it? Seems to go off though the device is on silent and persists if fast boot is on. And rings even thru the shut down process.
My post of this problem on the DROID DNA.

Hi all,
I'm at the end of my tether as my P20 Pro has started glitching incessently.
It's vibrating randomly (and regularly) and any time I try and go into an app it kicks me out within a second or two. I've not dropped my phone, it's not been in water and it's really starting to p*ss me off as I literally can't even send a text/WhatsApp without being booted out.
I've had the phone around 20 months and the cynic in me thinks Huawei may have deliberately bugged it to force me into buying a new phone. I've tried deleting unused apps, clearing cache, deleting old gallery videos etc but it hasn't made a single bit of difference.
I know there are a lot of posts on here about notification issues and random vibrating but this is definintely nothing to do with notifications. I've loved this phone since I got it but the past week or two have seriously p*ssed me off and I just want to smash the phone!
If anyone could help I'd be forever in your debt!!!:fingers-crossed:
Cheers

When it's vibrating is anything happening in the notification bar?? Mine started doing that last week and it was a call app I had installed. It could be you have to go through the notification settings for each app. Is there any particular application that you are noticing it on? Sorry for the questions. I hope you are OK x

Hi mate,
No nothing shows in notifications when it vibrates. It's actually a different type of vibration than you would get for a normal notification as well. It's a very rapid vibration that comes and goes. Initially it started kicking me out of my camera gallery and then started happening on other apps as well (Google search, Golf Clash, Snapchat etc). It's settled down the last couple of hours but I know it'll flare up randomly again at some point!:crying:
I also have problems with people trying to hear me on phone calls as well but assume that's probably a completely separate issue!
Cheers

Instead of smashing the phone I would suggest factory restore.

Have you ran the support app see if it's a hardware issue? I'd try and do a factory reset if that does not work because its difficult to diagnose. I hope you are staying safe x
