Is it me of white Note feels heavier than the black one? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Also along the sides of the note it looks like it's made of metal? I where the power and volume buttons are.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk

i think i read somewhere that the new white ones has a heavier battery and the s-pen has a gray button. Not sure with the metal sidings though.

Looks to me it has the same battery.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk

i remember, I read it in a local forum. She said it was heavier, but has the same capacity. She noticed the weight change after comparing it to a black note. Can't verify it as 100% accurate, so take my post with a grain of salt.

Gelaskins now available for the Tab

As above, I've pestered them by mail and FB lately and skins are finally available. Unfortunately, the German store doesn't have them yet (cheaper for me in the UK and faster shipping) but hopefully will soon.
I'll likely buy one tomorrow, just need to decide which...
It would also be cool if you could just buy the back as I might not use the front skin.

I made my own design and got 10% off. nice.
Well I bought a skinit. Which seems slightly thicker than gelaskins and hence easier to apply...however skinit does not provide side cover, only front and back...:-( have gelaskins before on my PS3 and they were a pain to apply! Got all stretched and wrinkled...

Each to their own. I found the Desire gelaskins i bought very easy to apply so these should be a cinch. I made a custom one earlier from one of Daim's images.

Yes the gelaskins material tend to stretch a bit and that can be annoying looking for precision. When sticking, don't try to "pull/unroll" on the surface, but rather apply/deposit. Don't know if it's clear
The one I applied didn't fit perfectly the side with buttons & card access so i had to make a lil wrinkle to do so. I may have stretched it 1 millimeter...
I applied the front above the Antiglare screen protector.

Looks good, I'll. Have to post some pics of mine. I haven't put the side bits on. I also have a wrinkle on the front where it stretched. A real pain to fit over a screen protector as that kept lifting as i tried to really the skin. The back skin could be bigger too as there's a white outline all the way round.
Still looks pretty good though.

Also note that unsticking to refit will also strech the sticker. So better care on first attempt.

wow nice!! i want to try this but daym 1 try is scarry
so how strong is the protection kinda scared from going from a gel case to a skin.
and is it hard to apply? did you guys use any soap water etc?
They're easy to apply, it just stuck to the screen protector and gave me grief. My desire one was easy and i removed it and reapplied it with no problems. If you're not using a screen protector then it'll probably be easy on the tab too.

It can be removed cleanly for the tab, no residue, and the sticker is strong enough so it won't tear up. But switching often, I don't think so. From what I seen, the sticker will stretch as you pull to unstick, especially the narrow parts: sides/front. So even taking great care, IMO it will be hard & long to put back cleanly.

Subject: Your Galaxy Tab GelaSkins
Hi There!
If you've received your Galaxy Tab GelaSkin, you've probably noticed there's something wonky with the top and bottom artwork. You were probably like, "What's up with that, GelaSkins? You're normally so awesome!". Well, we've realized our mistake and we're sorry. Like, reeeeally sorry. We're going to send you out a brand spankin' new skin with the correct artwork orientation and hope for your understanding. We love you.
xoxo
us
I bought 4 to get 1 free in mid december.
So, I don't really understand what they mean by "wonky... top and bottom artwork...orientation". Sure I noticed all the edge stickers didn't really "match" the back and front design, but holding my GT it in a case that didn't bother me that much.
In some designs that does not even make a difference as they're one color.
Well, GelaSkins fixed the mistake, and are sending me 4 skins for free without even asking...
Awesome... If you bought yours early, you're probably in that case.
Thanks for that, I'm going to email them and see if they'll do that for me as mine is wonky and they emailed me a low res wallpaper, less than the res of the tab!

Traces of wear

Hello to everyone,
owning the N5 for over a month now with moderate use over the day, I see first signs of wear.
On the top left corner (frontfacing) I've already polished the rubberised paint away and it gets glossy.
Have to say that this is the part of the phone that hits the inside of the pocket first when I put it in my trousers.
But for me it's a little bit of a disappointment, especially because the N4 showed this first after 8 months!
How is your N5 holding up so far?
Cheers,
Flaxx
EDIT: Forgot to mention: Black N5
Mines fine. But then it is white so the sides are already glossy....
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Mines fine too (black version), but mine spends most of it's time on my desk or in my hands
Is is worth an RMA? Surely it shouldnt wear down so quickly??

Thought about RMAing it, but the rest of the phone is flawless: no problem with random noise in call or videorecording, vibrator motor, display (first RMA) and the little noise of the power button not bothering me at all.
The possibility of getting a bad phone is "too damn high" I guess.
My N5 wears down slightly on the upper back edges. Just the outer edges are becoming blank. But I consider it as normal because regardless of the material edges are always very prone to wear of. I don't have a problem with that as long as it stays that subtle.
BTW. I am using a day one device.

Normal wear and tear that causes paint to wear off does not warrant an RMA.

Why are telling me? White = glossy sides. No wear problem.
Black = matte effect sides (and poor choice in colour ?) wears off. Anything with that kind of finish will wear, I don't think they would give you a replacement for it.

I have a weared out spot on left top corner of the screen. Looks like oleophobic coating on this phone's screen is even less durable than on GN and N4. Disappointed. White 16GB.
Well the build quality is lower than HTC, what do you expect?
Now i get why the price is lower with high specs..!
Smart Google and LG..!
It's basically plastic wrapped around a screen and small underpowered battery
no case
Expect wear.
No wear on dropped and tossed with car keys and small change Black N5... with QuickCover !
It's exactly the phone I was wishing for, "relative" build quality, toughness and all. The N5 won't ever age as well as my old N1 -- nor feel as substantial when handheld, but I'm still thrilled with the unmatched value of the N5, the fit with my needs, and still will be even if it craps out early. And I'll be longing for the next+ Nexus by then, anyway...

This small underpowered battery gets amazing battery life. 5 to 5.5 hours screen on time I'm happy. Great design too . I love how this phone feels in hand and it feels to me the build is worth much more than the price tag. I have a black n5 BTW but I have a white back on at the moment.
Also to reply to what this threads about I have a day one device that I received the Monday after launch and its still mint. I use a bumper maybe 50% of the time and I use skinomi screen protectors.

That is strange. It's rated at 20,000 wipes with rough cloth by Corning and surely you haven't come near that or used harsh chemicals on it.

BRIGHT Red Nexus 5 Review

Hey, I'll make here a short review about the color of my new Nexus 5 Red Edition.
My Nexus 4 was stolen so I went for the 5 but I was hesitating between the black one and the red one. I hadn't seen any review of the red version so that's why I'll make one for the one who can't decide!
First of all, Google mention that the phone is bright red. And it is! Its very very bright and it's amazing.
When I opened the box, the phone dazzled me! It's very flashy and its like neon red, eletric verilion or orange red (See an approximation of the color in attached files).
It's true that it look a bit orange. But in a certain way, the color affects you depending the light there is. In daylight it looks very bright, but in a room with no natural light it will look softer. But it's still bright. You can't get lost with this phone, we can see you from far away (a bit like the red-orange security jacket but not that extreme of course )
I'm totally in love with this phone, i think it looks amazing. But be aware that it doesn't look like a "normal red phone"
Regarding the case, i wanted that the back can be seen, I didn't wanted to hide the color of the phone. But I think that the transparent cases from Spigen (Ultra Hybrid) and Ringke (Fusion) were too big and would ruin the Nexus 5 design. So I found on clubcase.fr an interesting case. It's thin and frosted, not fully transparent. It looks quite good (but not so sure about the protection it offers), it soften a bit the color but the phone looks a bit more orange or pink depending the light. But it isn't that disturbing. I also bought the Diztronic Voyeur case because it seems stronger, but it will come in a few days so I don't know how it will look like on my Nexus.
I hope I could help you in your choice
PS : I'll try to add pics of the phone as soon as possible
Edit : Here is the link to my imgur album with all the pictures with different angles : imgur. com/a/5rymn (remove the space before the dot)
I also have received my Diztronic voyeur case. It looks great and much more protective than my other case but it's a bit thicker (pics in the link above )
you should really test it on the wireless charging function. My nexus 5 works well with the RAVPower wireless charger that i bouht on Amazon. And I am happy with it.
I went into the Telus store intending to get the red one but it looked way brighter in person and I thought it was too bright for me. Ended up getting a black one instead but now that I got a black ballistics case the red would be OK I think being that it would be mostly covered up but still somewhat visible.

Yes sure, with the diztronic voyeur case we have a black case but with some red reminders. its much more sober!
congrats on your new phone dude. It certainly looks amazing. I had a 16gb black which I sold and went for the 32gb white. I have to admit that the white is more interesting looking than the black and I can imagine how the red compares to black. Anyway, N5 no matter the color, is a delight to stare at...no question about that!

I bought the red version purely because it was newer and so rarer and when I sell the N5 it has less competition for those out there which want red.
I also, because I will be selling it, got a red case to go with it.
Makes a change from the usual black of white.
You are though putting me off with the mention of its really red!
My red one is 3 days and about 20 miles into a journey across USA, at current speed I'll have it when the N6 is out.
I personally think it would look awesome in a black case like the one I got. If only I thought of that when I bought it.

Cases are cheap. If I hate red I can buy a black case.
A Red Nexus in a black case? Surely you'd not get much red showing, just at top and bottom and the red dot?
Given XDA is the home of the golden padlock I'm flabbergasted this thread hasn't been locked given it's a review of a colour lol
I'm glad you are excited about your new Nexus 5. It's a great device. However, I'm not sure a review of the color is needed.

Quality feel (use of materials)

Rate this thread to express how you think the LG Nexus 5X feels in terms of quality. A higher rating indicates that it feels premium and high-quality (attention to detail is high, manufacturing defects don't exist, etc).
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
My Nexus 5X actually started making creaking sounds about a week after use. I know it's plastic, but there are plastic phones out there that don't do that. So, I'm not too keen on the build quality.
Would you guys say it feels better or worse than the original Nexus 5?
Very high quality, but the buttons are shallow

I would rate them the same. Solid plastic devices, but with clear signs of being built on a budget.
There's a bit of a gap between the back cover, and heat expansion as well as removing the (very tight at first) USB-C connector seems to increase the gap and potentially cause some creaks. However it is minor and rarely happens for me, so it's easily forgotten.
Hello, I had the Nexus 5x Black in hand yesterday and it is polucarbonate soft feel in hand, definetly better material than dhe Nexus 5 2013. I want to ask you guys? The white color its the same material as the black? Because the Nexus 5 2013 there was a diference in bulid materials....

Same matte plastic feeling with all 3 colours of the 5x according to online sources.
Not a huge fan of the back cover, but it grew on me with use. I think it feels great in the hand.
This feels waaaaay better than my S4. The plastic back on that was cheap af, cracked in a week. You could see where the pressure points from the corners of the battery were because it cracked there. Ofc I got the white and the cracks are now filled with dirt.
The back of the 5X feels sturdy and robust, I haven't had any creaking like others. I have an ice blue made in Oct 15

No I have not, the backing resists fingerprints, smudges, and discoloration.
Guys, totally different issue: if you look closely with your eye on the other end of the longer edge of your Nexus 5X (having your shorter edge vertically) - can you see the edge is perfectly straight or it's bent/curved in some areas, especially around buttons? I thought my new shiny N5X will be damn solid, but I believe it's a problem of how the housing is made.
Please confirm! Thanks!

The only way i alleviated the creaking was using a supcase, or i would have returned it myself.
just received mine on tuesday, and got to say the only thing that immediately stood out to me as being "cheep" feeling was the buttons. they are very mushy and dont have good tactile feedback. but overall the device feels great.
The reviews are wrong, this is really nice device. It's hard to believe that it costs $400 less than other phones.
I absolutely love how the back feels. I'm using the Quartz White version and since i'm very careful with it from being dirty, i ordered a DBrand skin (Black Leather for Back, Frame and Camera) from overseas.
The phone doesnt feel cheap to me. But I did put on a supcase for added protection. Gives it a great feel in hand, very durable.
I wish it has,
1) Dual stereo speaker,
2) Great buttons,
3 At least 3gb of Ram
4) 3000mAH battery at least
5) Amoled display
Well, it's my 2nd phone so I think it's no big deal.

Unlocked Galaxy Note 8 Direct from Samsung, Sharp Edges?

I received my Unlocked Galaxy Note 8 Direct from Samsung today. Coming from the AT&T Galaxy s8+ on which the build quality was pretty phenomenal. Almost perfectly smooth edges where the glass meets the frame on the front and back. Perfect smooth feeling in the hand.
The very first thing I noticed when I took the Note 8 out of the box is the almost sharp feeling edges where the frame protrudes substantially further than the glass does. At first I thought maybe it was intentional to help protect the glass on impact if you were to drop it but it just feels terrible in the hand. Really *really* noticeable.
Has anybody else noticed this? Part of me hoping this is NOT normal and I can get a replacement and the other half of me wants everybody elses to be the same so I don't have to try to get a replacement. It really does feel "not right" in the hand though... not sharp like you could cut yourself but sharp enough to scrape skin off if you press hard.
For the full retail price I paid..... kinda bummed.
Mines the same. Purchased from Samsung direct a tmobile variant.

Sorry to hear that. I know I'd be gutted if my Note 8 arrived and it had an issue. I'm on a Note 3 so I've kinda been waiting for 4 years for this phone and the anticipation is killing me. I always put a case on my phones so I probably wouldn't be devo about it but it would still be disappointing. I'll let you know if mine has the same feel and lie to you if it doesn't.
Yeah, the edges are different due to the spen. Samsung made the edges closer to 90 degrees for spen usage, which gives more screen real estate to write on.

I knew that. I just wish the edge was smooth where the glass meets the frame. Basically my frame is substantially wider than the glass is, if that explains it better.
