[Q] music player drain on ics roms - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im on ics aokp build 23 and was previously on slim ics. I had the same problem, battery drain happens to me when i am using the stock music player. For an hour using it it took about 10% of the battery. Anyone experiencing this or have a fix on this? Thanks

I had the same problem (Along with phone heating up to 110F o.o) my only solution to you is to use a music player off of the market. I have been using PowerAmp because it has alot of different sound quality options including bass boost.

XXJVP Video playback causing major battery drain?

Hi
I wiped my phone, was on doc's js8 custom rom with Speedmod Froyo kernal. Before that I was on Stock JPU with CF-Root.
Flashed XXJVP stock rom from Ramad's thread via ODIN, rebooted, installed Speedmod for GB, rebooted, flash Ramad's Deodexed XXJVP stock rom and then re flashed Speedmod for GB...
Battery for normal use is great, but watching a video is eating way too much battery...
When I was on JPU, I was able to watch two full movies (about 3 hours total) played a wordcross game and then watched several music videos and listened to a load of .mp3 whilst on a flight to Eygpt, using the stock Samsung player, screen brightness set to 2% and the player brightness set to 2%, phone in Airplane mode...
After 5-6 hours use I had gone from 95% battery to around 45-50%.
Now on JVP, I ran a video for 1 hour and with the stock player again set to the same brightess, 2%... after the hour checked my battery and it was down nearly 50%
This was Not in Airplane mode this time, but would this make a big difference, in Normal use I loose 1.09% battery per hour!
Has anybody else on JVP noticed similar, or is it just my phone?
This is almost in every ROM the problem;-)
This is Not the normal Android OS or System drain, my battery lasts two days easily, as long as I don't use the video player and the drain stops when the video player stops.
hmmm data connection does consume lot of battery but 1-2%/hr at the most... so i'm guessing u have lot of unnecessary apps running, when u dont actually use it. go to settings and in about phone check the battery usage, check the apps which use the battery at the most and delete them if possible. else u can use a task manager and kill unwanted processes from time to time. hope this helps!
Cheers but tried that already, biggest app drain during the 1 hour video playback was media services 4%. Nothing else stood out, and as I said in op, normaly battery drain under same conditions but no video playback, I only loose 1.09% per hour, so it looks like the video player did all the damage?

in that case use mobo player for viewing videos(much better than stock plus it supports more formats).. use this n see if u still have drain
depends of what video codec using your file... some codecs have low battery drain some codecs medium and some high... compare working on JPU and JVP with the same video...
The video s are all .avi or mp4, same as I played when on jpu rom.

Music Player Runtime

Hi guys, how long can you listen to music using your galaxy note built-in music player? Does android perform deep sleep while playing music? I noticed mine is using 6-8% battery an hour of playing. Is this normal? I remember using blackberry and iphone where I can listen to music for more than 15 hours and still have battery left.
using gingerbread darky 3.3 rom with 4.0 abyss kernel
Thanks!
Mine doesn't go into deep sleep while playing, so yeah it uses more battery.

[Q] [i9001] ROM with very good battery

I'm looking for a ROM with only good battery life to listen to music. I need it for at least 24 hours to be on. I don't need any performance besides listening to music. Don't care about graphics and benchmarks. It can be 2.3.4, 2.3.6 or anything else but not 4+.
are rmtcent

I9001? good battery?
gigabread+!
maybe the best gingerbread 2.3.6 rom for i9001
Maybe someone wants to create a rom optimized only for music. This would be great
Rom and kernel with no working deepsleep, no camera, no working phone, no working MULTItouch.
No play store, no gapps, no GPS, no WiFi, no animations, no overclock, finding best frequency for enough power playing music with little battery consumtion(extreme undervolt), no working fm-radio
Music player integrated somehow in C-code in kernel,
No dalvik VM.
Possible?
Idea: lets begin with barebone rom!
:banghead::screwy:
Edit:
Of course read and write cache and io sheduler optimized for music files of at least 5MB

4.1.1 Default Music App Preventing Deep Sleep While Running

Hi everyone,
i wanted to ask if there's an app or a way to make my S3 Mini enter deep sleep mode even when I'm listening to music in the background (music app not open), 'cause now it stays 50% awake and 50% sleeping and drains my battery extremelly fast - about 30 mins of music listening drained about 15% of my battery without me doing anything else and having the screen off all the time through that period.I read a similar thread on some forum, but there wasn't a way to do this described there {don't remember which forum that was on}.
I'll even settle for another music app (not the default one, if it can't be done with it) which has playlist widget support and decent controls [and of course one which makes the phone go to deep sleep mode while it's on in the background]
I'm running on a pre-rooted android 4.1.1
THANKS IN ADVANCE TO ANYONE WHO HELPS ME OUT AS THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE FOR QUITE SOME TIME NOW
Mind if I ask why you use 4.1.1 and not 4.1.2 or CM10/11? I've never had this issue on any stock rom with the default player so a firmware upgrade should take care of it.

if CPU enters deep sleep, how would the phone be able to play music?

I was on 4.1.2 for more than half a year, but 2 days ago switched back to 4.1.1 'cause the ripple effect on the lock screen is gone in android 4.1.2 and later And I kinda have some apps installed so I dont really wanna flash a new rom

Well yeah, but then again why does the FM Radio app drain battery extremely slow when using it almost the same amount of time as the music player (perhaps even longer) ? I don't know maybe I haven't adapted to android as this is my first android phone ever and i have had it for almost a year now (never had battery problems with my other phones - all were Nokia )

try dmod v6 its awesome
battery break
I think the problem isn't with your music player, the problem it's wth your battery, because i use stock music player and 3g for 1 hour, and my battery only drain 10%
Well, just to say that I use playerpro with maclaw's cm 10.2, for a long time & never had battery draining

Maybe. Because when i listen to music my screen is off all the time and i have 3g manager installed, which means that my 3g is also disabled when screen is locked. Let's hope it's the battery - seems like the easiest way to fix the problem
