[Q] question about internal memory - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have a i9000 it is working for phone calls and contacts, but I have a big issue with my internal sd card.
I can read the contents, but I cannot delete, format, wipe or install any new application that was not previously installed because via adb it tells me that I do not have the rights.
The fact is that I can download still new roms on my mobile so that means that a part of the internal memory is still usable.
The question is that:
in the i9000 there are two physical different memories (two chips)? One for the the kernel and firmware situated and one for the data, the so called "internal sd card"?
Because if there is one chio I really cannot understand why one are is corrupted (internal sd card) and the other (kernel and firmware) is not.
Best regards

Did u even try connecting cell to pc in mass storage mode and deleting/formatting using the pc ???

[Q] SOLVED: Connecting with USB shows only internal memorycard...

HI!
I have this problem that when I turn on the file sharing, the computer shows only internal memory card and not the external. Because the phone itself recognizes the external card I have tried to unmount and mount several times without any improvement. I am currently using the latest CM7 nightly, but the problem seemes to have started after I changed the card from 4gb to 16 gb. Any ideas?
EDIT: Erasing sd card from the phones menu helped to solve the problem.
Go Setting>Storage and remount your sd card and try???
I've done that several times....no help... android system accesses the card without problems...music, pics etc.
Did you physically remove your card and reinsert it, or just software remount?
Have you tried the card directly in your computer?
Have a look in windows device manager and see if it reports any problems. (right
click my computer and select manage)
I have tried it all and everything is ok with the sd card itself (I copied recent nightly from the computer on the sd card) also recovery recognizes is... there are also no problems in device manager...
Try to put on debugging mode. And try it with debugging mode on.
If the debugging mode is on try to take it off.
Regards Kali
I tried that also and nothing changed.... I have a feeling that it is somehow attached to me using mybackup pro... I restored application apk and data from another phone to this one and It seems that usually the application data should go to internal memory card. In this case it is on external card... so i believe that somehow the programs are still using the card when connected and do not allow phone to share it out... It's just a guess though...
EDIT: so I think the solution is to wipe everything and start all over again
So I fresh installed Rom and wiped everything and the problem still exist... still can see files with file managers in phone and when connected to computer, autorun shows only internal card...
Edit: I tried now 2gb sized sdcard and it works perfectly... the problem is with 16gb card.
Weird. Did you try another USB-port?
I tried different USB-s now and still same I found out that when I connect the phone, under my computer appears two removable disks.... if I turn on the usb connection, only one transforms to usable removable disk (internal) and the other one asks to insert the removable disk. I used the same sd card on my HTC desire with CM nightlies and it worked perfectly... could it be CM-s bug?
Sorry to ask (maby the obvious)
On Your phone.. using your filemanager (Root explorer astro or what-ever..)
Browse to sdcard
Do you have a folder called _externalSD?
On this phone, for some reason the external SD is not mounted under./ but as i said under ./sdcard/ (i.e its mounted under the internal SD card..)
Just a thought
Where the different cards are mounted doesn't make any difference. And as he said, it works with other cards (2GB and 4GB).
CyanogenMOD mounts internal card as /mnt/emmc, and external card as /mnt/sdcard by default.
When turning on USB storage, both cards should be unmounted and shared over USB.
Hi, I had the same problem with mine, and as you said in one of your previous posts, I had to do a format through the phone and as soon as I did that I was good to go.
I did use the same memory card in my old hero so this might have something to do with it... I'm not sure.
By formatting do you mean from the menu Erase SD card? On the desire I actually had the formatting request from the computer, but there was another problem (some of the rom's files were on the sdcards ext or something and I had no access to the card from the USB).... kind of a similar problem if I think back now but after changing to CM, the problem disappeared.
I forgot to mention I am running completely stock rom and unrooted (for the time being) and there is just an option under sd card & phone storage setting to format external sd card
After erasing the sd card from the phone, the computer recognized it i'm currently copying stuff back and i'm pretty sure it does not affect the recognition
I faced the same problem. I had Swapper2 on my NC, and after I uninstalled it (and cleared the data of Swapper2, just in case) everything went to normal back again.
^ a solution.

[Q] Completely format internal SD Card with PC

Hello everybody
My SGS is semi-bricked, which means that my internal SD card is dead, but the system is still working.
I can make calls and send SMS, but anything that may use the internal sd card (Camera, Videos... ) is not accessible. It ask me to turn off the USB storage...
I searched a lot in the net -especially in this forum because it seems that there are many professional and expert members herein- and i found that
there are some methods to solve the problem of bricked phones with totally Dead Memory using an external SD.
Like my phone's memory is just corrupted, I wish to know if there is any possibility to format the internal card using PC,
create new partitions (FAT32 and EXT4) and install the rom. (I tried to format it with recovery and ClockworkMod, no result...).
Finally, I apologise for my English style, I'm not a native speaker
NB: When I connect the phone to PC, I can see the memory slot, but it's empty...It doesn't recognise the SD Card.
Search for a thread called dead internal sd solution or something like this. There is a way to format and repartition the sd over the PC. But I'm not completly sure how.

[Q] Internal emmc and external SD destroyed

Hi
I have an International Galaxy Note (N7000). It had problems with sim card (the SIM socket lost contact with the pcb), so I started to use it as a media player and wifi functions. Yesterday it stopped on the boot screen (with the model number), so I tried to load a backup using recovery. Surprisingly, I got a sdcard mount error. Tried to read the sdcard in PC, but Windows says that the card must be formatted and recognize as a 1GB card (it's a 32GB card). If I try to format as 1GB Windows says that was not possible complete the process.
After all, I tried to turn on the phone via recovery and wipe data via recovery and.... the same error on internal memory. I was running Samsung's official 4.1.2 ROM. Anyone had this problem?

Mount the two cards to the computer and try to recover them using EASUS Partition Manager.
Stellar phoenix is another one..used this & I was able to recover the same folder tree (just that main folder names will be different, but sub-folder names will be the same what you had given) :good:

Changing partition table ?

Hello Guys !
The internal SD card partition is ****ed up and it shows as "unmounted".
I tried a lot of things, including connecting the phone to computer and formating the damn internal storage, but when i plug the USB cable, the phone says that don't have SD card and don't allow full access or Mass Storage.
I tried some programs and file explorers who claimed that can format partitions. No one of them did works.
I tried from the settings of the device to format the internal storage, but i can't change or touch anything, because it shows the internal storage as "unmounted".
I flash it to the stock rom but in the process of flashing, it don't even touch anything in the partition table and after the flashing, the internal SD card is still "unmounted".
Is there any program, tool, way to repartition the partition table on the device ?
I have searched for that in google and i didn't find anything of that sort for Xperia X8.
My other phone, LG Optimus 2X for example, it have AIO toolkit and from there i can change his partition table as i want.
I doubt in that i can't do the same on Xperia X8.
What can i do in this case ?
By "Internal SD card partition" do you mean the Data partition?
Yes.
Are you sure? Does your phone boot? Are you able to install apps?
I mean... that partition where the other data like music, videos, files for apps are stored in there or the partition that file managers sees.
And now this partition is broken and unmounted. The phone show stupid errors everywhere, of the type of "Put your SD card to make photos" or "No SD card" in every app that store data...Now i can't do nothing, i can't even transfer one song and set it as default rington.
But the phone starts up successfully and i have no problem with installing apps from the old "Android Market".
Then that would be your Externel MicroSD Card. If you take the back cover off your phone it should be in the top right corner.
Try taking it out and using an MicroSD card adapter to connect it to your pc and format it.
Or use an app called "AParted" from the Play Store to format your MicroSD Card(Root access required).
No. The phone don't have inserted SD card. I am talking about the "internal SD card". As far as i know, the partition that the file managers sees is the partition left for free data storage, and that is not the whole memory, there is another partition that is hidden and is for the system files for android.
So, the phone boots up and "works" but i need to make repartitioning, but i don't know how to do it on this phone and what is the procedure if there is a way.

Click to collapse
The phone has 2 main partitions one is System(For OS related files and folders) and the other one is Data(For Apps and App Data), No File Manager can see whats in them(Unless you have Root Access). The only thing that would be visible to your File Manager would be whats in your MicroSD Card. If you don't have a MicroSD Card you will not be able to save any pictures or videos or any thing like that(Just like any other Android Phone with a MicroSD Card Slot)
So, this phone uses the whole internal memory for the system ? And its required to put a microSD card to be able to use the phone ?
All my android phones has a partition for free storage and i am suprised of that i can't storage anything without SD card.
This Phone only has 250MB of Internal Storage and it uses about 128MB for System. That leaves you with around 122MB to install Apps. The Phone is 100% Usable without a MicroSD Card, the only thing you will not be able to do is Save any type of External File(Video. Audio, ect.)

xperia z1 recover deleted photos

i'm trying to help out someone who has fallen victim to a fake unbranded micro sd card from ebay.
they bought what they thought was a 64gb card, then tried to move all their photos and videos to it. as the sd card was reporting a capacity of 64gb, the phone tried to move all of it, and deleted it all from the internal storage.
my first port of call was photorec, because it's what i've used before, but that's only any use for recovering from the external sd card, the internal storage will only connect as an mtp device, which photorec doesn't see.
i then rebooted into windows and started trying different android photo recovery software. the closest i've come to success is with dr fone, but that either gets stuck at 90%, or tells me the phone will have to be rooted to recover anything.
the phone is already on the latest firmware version, which i believe means it will have to be downgraded before rooting. is it possible to root it in a way which won't overwrite the internal storage, so i can still recover the deleted photos after rooting? alternatively, is it possible to use ADB to force it to mount the internal storage as a mass storage device rather than MTP?
